Poly Sequencer V3 | Getting Started
video upload by Space Brain Circuits

"The POLY SEQUENCER is a MIDI based polyphonic step sequencer that records up to 128 steps. The Poly Sequencer works by recording a sequence by a MIDI controller, and outputting the recorded sequence via an external MIDI enabled device. The Poly Sequencer’s tempo is controlled by the Internal Clock by use of the Tempo Knob or Tap Tempo. However, the Poly Sequencer may also be synced to external gear by use of the Gate In, or receiving MIDI Clock messages. The rate at which the steps are sequenced is controlled by the Division section, representing the number of steps played per clock. By Default, the Poly Sequencer can store up to 5 notes per step with 1 Velocity and 1 CC reading, however the user may choose to change the Sequence Type which varies the stored data depending on the mode selected. Additional functionality includes saving, auto generating blank sequences, as well as step override/ interrupt/ transpose during playback. Firmware versions may also be upgraded by USB connection.

BUCHLA and Associates - rare original Piano Bar

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
video upload by Con Brio Synthesizers

"This is my old Buchla Piano Bar - a very rare instrument interface from Don Buchla. Originally conceived and designed by Don - this is one of very few ever made (This one is serial #105 - they started at #100 - so likely the 5th made of 10 or so?)

I have only seen one other of these - it's in the Cantos Museum (NMC in Calgary Canada) but that one is a different model altogether. No others appear on the web at all currently.

The Buchla system works very well - it's placed (no mounting or drilling) across any 88-key piano keyboard. Optical sensors over each key convert these to note on/off of MIDI. The box generates programmable General Midi sound sets, and also has output of MIDI signals for recording or triggering external modules.

I have both the Moog and Buchla Piano Bars - they are quite comparable. The Moog is far more common, with a few hundred sold, but both are rare. Too bad - as it's an excellent design and works so well. Having the acoustic piano sound (and superb feel of any wooden piano keys) plus the richness of the layered sampled sounds - really is a blast to play this. Pedals sensors are down below, so sustain is also triggered.

It has full dynamic control, a very sensitive response. I reprogrammed most of the generic preset sounds into better sets of things - any General Midi manual will show you how this can be done. Splits and layers, effects, retuning, octaves, varied Midi channel outputs - all the basics are possible here."

You can find additional posts featuring the Buchla Piano Bar here.

via this listing

"This is a very rare item, one of only two I can find currently in existence.

The Buchla Piano Bar was an ingenious invention by legendary synthesizer designer Don Buchla. It is placed across the keys of a standard acoustic piano, the height is adjusted at each end, and the stretch can be adjusted to fit slightly different size keyboards. Beneath you have a portable sensor to go under the pedals, this and the keyboard sensor connected to the back of the main box.

The main box is a converter to change the piano motion into midi notes, covering all 88 keys with full Dynamics. Inside the box is also a General MIDI device, a sound synthesizer chip with hundreds of preset sound options. These can be stacked, split, layered, retuned, and affected in different ways. These can be saved as presets which I have done for many sounds in here. (The original sounds were terrible general presets like Marimba etc.)

Bob Moog was given a license to change this design and sell his own version in 2004. It's a very similar device with the same types of sounds, but those are more common as they made 100 or more.

As you can see in the video it works very well, simply adjust the keyboard sensor as low as possible, and it just works. You can feed a sequence or a computer with the midi notes coming out, recording a midi performance along with the acoustic sound of your piano. Most people find an acoustic piano has a superb feel, so it also makes just a great controller for other midi devices.

I have changed one knob out on the front panel for a larger knob, as seen in the video, but I will include the smaller original knob as well. I received two original carrying cases, but no paperwork with the unit.

These are quite rare and valuable, please email me and discuss if you want to ship with insurance as an additional cost."

Radiant, sound examples

video upload by DNIPRO MODULAR

"Morphable effect processor for eurorack systems."

"The Radiant, developed in collaboration with Sinevibes, is a powerful and highly creative multi-effect processor designed to bring unique and dynamic sound-shaping capabilities to modular synthesis setups.

Multi-Effect Processor with Six Selectable Core Algorithms

Radiant offers a versatile collection of six distinct core algorithms, designed to be both familiar and experimental:

Dub Delay

Pole Phaser

Chord Wrapper

Feedback Shifter

Distortion

Re-Trigger

These algorithms contribute to a wide range of sonic possibilities—from ambient soundscapes and subtle modulations to complex, evolving textures and otherworldly effects.

Morphing Between Presets

One of Radiant’s standout features is its ability to morph between presets. This allows for seamless transitions between different effect states, creating evolving and dynamic sounds. The morphing feature makes it ideal for live performances, as users can shift smoothly between various sonic textures.

Three-Band Filter

Radiant includes an onboard three-band filter that lets users shape their sound by adjusting the low, mid, and high frequencies. This is particularly useful for fine-tuning the effects or isolating specific frequency ranges for more controlled sound sculpting.

Reverb and Sound Reverse

In addition to the core algorithms, Radiant provides a built-in reverb, adding space and depth to the sound. The sound reverse function allows for experimental sound manipulation by reversing the audio signal, creating eerie, backward effects that can be synced to the external clock.

Preset System and Save Function

Radiant features a straightforward preset system that allows users to save and recall different effect configurations across 3 available slots. These presets can be morphed in real-time, offering expanded creative possibilities.

User-Friendly Interface

Despite its complex capabilities, Radiant is designed with a simple and intuitive user interface. The module offers easy-to-use controls, allowing for quick adjustments and real-time tweaking of effects. This makes it accessible for both experienced modular users and those new to modular synthesis, providing a powerful yet approachable tool for creative sound design."

How To Loop All The Gear In A Studio: Sequencers/Mixers/Synths

video upload by MR TUNA Music

"Hello my friends this video has been a very long time coming. Its been years since I have done an updated studio tour and rundown so I figured today was a good day to catch up!

The reason it's taken so long to do something like this is because I've always been so overwhelmed at the idea of doing it right........ So instead of making a big production out of things we're going to keep it cool and casual and just see what catches out attention as we go. Thats the only way this is ever getting done!

The most important part of my studio is the ‪@ElectricSquad‬‪@squarpinstruments‬ Hapax sequencer. The Hapax is connected to every single piece of midi-equipped gear in the studio via 5-pin din or usb and is what allows me to loop everything in sync with each other.

When I play the keybed or change the controls on a synth, I'm not directly playing the gear so much as I'm playing it through the Hapax. With local controls turned off on the synth, all of the notes and midi information is sent OUT to the Hapax and does not trigger the synth in question (yet). After it gets to the Hapax it is run through any enabled MIDI effects and (if recording is armed) is recorded into the loop before it is sent instantaneously back to the synth in real time in a way you cant even tell that its happening. This way you can enable effects like arps and harmonizers on synths that dont have them.

All the audio from every synth and drum machine is sent to the tower of 3 Roland MX-1s. the MX-1s send MIDI sync and power through usb to some AIRA-link enabled pieces of gear and simplifies some cabling that way, and every track can be sent to Logic and recorded individually as its own instrument when combined as an aggregate audio device on my macbook."

"This Jupiter 8 is in excellent condition and has lived in a pet-free, smoke-free home studio for the last decade plus. It has been regularly played and is in great working condition.

This includes a mod for MIDI (in/out/thru) as well as mod switches for the VCA and VCF to provide additional sound quality options. I've regularly used the MIDI input for professional recording from various DAW software environments. It also works great with my Doepfer Dark Time or Kenton Pro Solo MkII for triggering and MIDI performance options.

The synth was professionally tuned up by DFX and sounds great. Please take a look at the provided Youtube demo that shows some of the many features. On that same Youtube channel, you can find other videos/tracks that feature the Jupiter8, including "Jupiter Sounds" (rich synth strings) and "Model DJam" (where the arpeggiator is featured)."

Electronic Music Laboratories Electrocomp EML-101 FULLY SERVICED

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this listing

"This EML 101 is fully serviced by in-house technicians, fully functional and in great condition. It sounds awesome.

The ElectroComp 101 is the successor to the rare ElectroComp 100 from Electronic Music Laboratories (EML), a small synthesizer company based out of Connecticut in the USA. Like the ARP 2600, the 101 is a patchable (1/4'' patch cords) semi-modular synth with a pre-wired voice path that can be over-ridden via patching. But unlike the ARP (or MiniMoog for that matter), the 101 has as many as four oscillators (two of which can go sub-sonic, for use as LFOs). The 101 is also Duophonic so you can play up to two notes at once. Another major distinction was that unlike Moog and ARP, who used transistors that would tend to drift out of tune under various operating temperatures, EML used op amps which proved to be far more stable and reliable.

Other onboard features include a voltage controlled 12 dB/oct multi-mode filter with resonance, two envelope generators, ring/amplitude modulator, noise, and sample-and-hold (they call this the "Sampler"). In addition, the 101 makes no distinction between control voltage and audio paths allowing just about any source to be patched to any control or audio input in any order. The 101 could easily be closed, secured and carried inside its wood casing.

This synthesizer is fantastic. It's warm, punchy, powerful and has lot of bite not to mention a sound that sets it apart from its contemporaries and, for that matter, any other synth."

Teenage Engineering OP-XY - portable synth performance

video upload by Jay Hosking

"Please support my work on Patreon: / jayhosking
A live synthesizer jam performed entirely on the Teenage Engineering OP-XY.

The OP-Z was perhaps my biggest "so close, but not close enough" piece of gear from the last few years. Its sequencer and performability and portability were great, but the build quality was terrible was terrible (of my unit, anyway) and the internal synths and effects weren't for me. I was exactly that person who wanted the upgraded, more robust version of the OP-Z.

And we got it. Yes, I recognize the price is high. But so far I am very, very happy with the OP-XY and what it does. It's sturdy, it feels great, its synths and samplers sound great, its effects are great, its sequencer and arranger are powerful, its Punch-In FX are useful.

And most importantly of all, it's fun. When I'm using it, I'm having fun.

Considering you can get an absolutely superb portable groovebox in the Tracker Mini for far less money, it's hard to recommend unless you're the type (like me) who just loves grooveboxes. But I'm loving my time with it so far.

Thanks for listening.

Performed and recorded live to a stereo output, with EQ, compression, and limiting on the master.

DFAM, BIA, UltraPerc, Modbase09, Sample Drum, zZzOrb, BIM, Octatrack, Analog Heat - #ModularTechno

video upload by x0d

"I resurrected an old modular percussion synth configuration and paired it with the DFAM for some fun.

The DFAM is running thru the OTO BIM for a bit of delay, and everything is mixed using the Octatrack, and then thru the Analog Heat MKII.

A simple, but effective setup.

------

Patch/Routing Notes:

I have the modbase09 running thru the HN TriTone for some EQ'ing, and out individually to the OT.

All the other modules are mixed in the case using the Erica Drum Mixer, and then filtered thru zZzOrb, before going out to another thru channel on the OT.

The DFAM/BIM are also on a separate thru track on the OT."
