Castlevania (NES) on Digitone II: "Vampire Killer"

video upload by tubesockor

"Castlevania 'Vampire Killer' (NES) performed on an Elektron Digitone II. A true-to-the-original version that then evolves into some kind of DN2 jam.

The first four tracks are 1:1 maps of the four NES channels, providing basic waveforms. For the jam, the remaining tracks are used.

The Castlevania OST for the Nintendo Education System (NES) was composed in 1986 by Kinuyo Yamashita."

Field Recording in Tokyo, Prophet-10, norns shield | Light Sleep 2025-03-17 by atnr

video upload by atnr

"A piece created using field recordings of Tokyo's morning city, ‪@SequentialLLC‬ Prophet-10, and norns shield. Birdsong, city sounds, and thick electronic tones overlap.

The Prophet-10 was played with ‪@strymon‬ blueSky reverb and recorded.

On the Norns Shield, I trigger a drone with DRONECASTER ( https://llllllll.co/t/dronecaster/34737 ) and process it with filtering and packet loss effects using ‪@ChaseBlissAudio‬ LOSSY.

The field recordings were captured with the Voice Memo app on an iPhone."

Playing Ableton Push 3 as a synthesizer

video upload by Sineway

"The headline feature of Ableton Push 3 is those expressive MPE pads. MPE stands for MIDI Polyphonic Expression and means you can really play the pads as if it's an instrument, along with pitch glide, polyphonic aftertouch and other features. In this jam, we're playing the pads as part of the live performance, though pitch glide was replaced with polyphonic aftertouch instead.

❤️ Support our work and download the Ableton Live 12 project file for this jam by joining our Patreon community: / sineway

Technically, the Push 3 was running in controller mode when we recorded the jam. The jam could easily have been done in standalone though, it was more of a convenience decision so we could see on the computer screen that things recorded properly.

We've had the Push 3 Standalone for a little over a year now and will be publishing a review that compares it against the other production-focused groovebox champion, the MPC Live 2.

3/16/25 (dry doom) Metasonix RK10 & RK7 & RK2 & RK5 + MFB Dual LFO & Dual ADSR

video upload by Cfpp0

"Some awful dry doom to test the Metasonix RK10 power in a new location, closer to the RK7, S-2000, S-1000, D-2000, and Zerosum Inertia 6550-99 modules. The RK10 is sequencing the left RK7, whose audio output is multiplied and sent to the right RK7 CV in and to the RK2 VCA. The right RK7 audio output goes to the RK5 lopass gate (left channel). The RK10 gate out is multiplied and sent to both sides of the MFB dual ADSR. The MFB dual LFO is controlling the drive input CV on the right RK7."

Five DB-01 sequences from scratch (detailed editing, no talk)

video upload by Richard DeHove

"Ah, my beloved DB-01. Of the many dozen videos I've made about this little beast I've never just done a simple patch-from-scratch walkthrough. So here's here's five very lightly edited examples. Certainly half an hour of button pressing and knob twiddling trying to find a decent sequence on a DB-01 is rather niche entertainment, but there's room for every taste on this fine planet.

Generally the progress toward an acceptable sequence is shown in all its false starts, deleted notes and 'slightly off' glory. The only parts I chopped out were a couple of times when I got obsessively stuck on a single note or two and went round-and-round for far too long.

Of course there are many ways to make sequences: programming single steps at a time; playing and recording a riff in real time; recording the arp or using the randomizer. (I covered all these methods in another video). My current favorite is little chunks of randomizer. I'll select a short range of steps then randomize some or all parameters then edit and copy that. Or, another favorite, randomize the entire pattern but only for gate length or filter modulation.

I do wonder whether it would have been more useful for me to be talking through everything as I went along but so many people seem to prefer 'no talk' videos. In fact the start of the video is a bit slow because I was originally explaining things but decided just to mute it all out. Who knows?

So for those who not only watch this but also take the time to read the description - my thanks.

ANALOGyX2 Synthesizer from Waverley-Instruments

video upload by James Dyson

"ANALOGyX2 Synthersizer from Waverley-Instruments

An AU and VST 3 Duel VA Synthesizer for macOS
Windows version is planned..
Check it out here
https://www.waverley-instruments.com/..."

"ANALOGyX2 is a virtual analog synthesiser with a variable shape oscillator, including sub and noise generators with independent envelopes, a variable mode ladder filter with dedicated envelope and LFO, a pre-wired mod matrix including PWM, vibrato, tremolo and auto-pan, and last but not least, a selection of built-in effects comprising distortion, chorus, delay, grain pitch shifter and reverb.

Times two. Or as we like to say here at Waverley Instruments - 'X2'.

ANALOGyX2 isn’t just a dual oscillator, or even a “dual voice” affair, it’s two totally independent instruments. Unlike most 'A+B' or 'layered' designs, the only parameters common to both instruments in ANALOGyX2 are the master volume control and pitch bend range. Everything else, including the effects, are totally independent.

On the one hand, this means the ANALOGyX2 sound designer has twice as much to think about. On the other hand, we think this also means there’s twice as much fun to be had, and exponentially more sonic possibilities!

How do you pronounce ANALOGyX2?

Some people pronounce it “anna-loggy-ex-two”. Other people pronounce it 'analogy times two'. To be honest, we don’t mind how you pronounce it. We’re just delighted that you’re talking about ANALOGyX2!"

Note VEMIA is Peter Forrest's auction house. He is the author of The A-Z of Analogue Synthesizer Books.

"A great example of one of the absolute classics: a late-model Synthex, checked and serviced ready for this auction. Being a low-volume production item, the Synthex went through a few revisions before Elka mistakenly gave up on it because of lack of commercial success. Originally without MIDI, this was first added as a rather awkward breakout box using a 15-pin computer interface. A later version had the MIDI sockets on a metal plate set in to the right of the computer interface, and the final version had the MIDI IN OUT and THRU fitted to the actual back panel of the synth, and did away with the 15-pin interface.

This is the version in the auction, serial number 1543 - a very late example, and arguably the best version of all. It's in really nice cosmetic condition: as usual, the large wooden end cheeks aren't perfect, but the panel and keys are beautiful. Serviced in early 2025 ready for this auction."

"Casio CZ5000 flagship Phase Distortion polysynth with case and paperwork Ex Paul Davis, the much loved Music Technology lecturer at Ealing College in the 1970s and 1980s who passed away in 2021. He purchased this brand new and used it as his main MIDI synth controller and teaching device through the 1980s and also based his own Music Technology dissertation on it. It has a nice collection of books to go alongside including the original sales folder from Chromatix the keyboard specialists in Ealing. We are trying to find the original reciept as well and it will be included if it turns up. The keyboard had been thoroughly checked out and is in perfect working order apart from slight crackle on the volume and chorus sliders which will probably go away with a bit of usage. It is sad to let this go but we would rather it was used than just sitting behind the sofa gathering dust."

Abandoned Prairie Town

video upload by davidryle

"A Vector Sequencer project running the large format modular.
The slow pace was the experiment basis and the Vector Sequencer really handles that perfectly. I also added the Jack Expander module to the Vector so I had four sequence lines this time to send to the modular.
The drone bass is a Mos-Lab clone of the Moog 901. No need for a sequencer there as it is a single pitch.
The opening sound is the pair of Matrix modules. This sound effect is heard again at the closing passage.
The opening slow pad note sequence is the STG vco's and G294A filter through a Strymon Blue Sky pedal.
The swell pattern is two Q206's to the Q150 filter. The stereo signal is routed through a Lexicon MX200 for pitch shift and chorus.
The distant ghostly piano sounding sequence is two lines from the Vector to a pair of TZ vco's and the Yusynth Arp 4072 filter. The final effect chain is the Stasis Leak delay module and the Z-DSP signal processor.
The flutter sounding noise is the Dove WTF to a Tau Pipe phaser and an Oakly SVF in high pass mode.
The wind effects were the West Coast Noise Source to the MOTM 440 filter and the Q110 noise module to the Dove D502 filter in band pass mode."
