Blacet Research Mini Wave Discontinued

Crazy to think this is the end of an era. Before eurorack ever took off, we had Wiard and Blacet (Frac Rack format) format modules. The Mini Wave was one of the top modules. It's hard to see them go.

via the Blacet email list:

"Over the years, we have sold 100's of Grant Richter's [of Wiard] innovative MiniWave wave table module but now it's time to say goodbye to this fantastic device.

Unfortunately, some of the parts are getting hard to source.

It features 256 wave lookups with a sawtooth input or get a huge variety of distortion effects with other inputs. Plus, it's a quantizer.

Order now and get an extra 256 wave "Socket Rocket" free.

Check out the MW2090 Manual and the waveform manuals below.

****Only five Kits left, order today!****

Have a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving!"

iNDEX05 - Compilation Featuring Parallel Worlds, Dave Bessell & Self Oscillate

MATRIXSYNTH Member, Bakis Sirros of Parallel Worlds participates with 4 collab tracks in this compilation: 2 tracks by PW & Dave Bessell and 2 tracks by PW & Self Oscillate.

iNDEX05 - Compilation
DiN50 | 2016 | Limited to 1,000 copies
Release date June 24th 2016
info here:

http://www.din.org.uk/din/node/505

"iNDEX05 is the fifth DiN compilation album and includes two tracks each from the titles DiN41 - 49. The artists on show this time are Ian Boddy, Node, ARC, Dave Bessell (one of the members of Node) and collaborations between Parallel Worlds & Dave Bessell, Ian Boddy & Markus Reuter, Erik Wøllo & Bernhard Wöstheinrich and Parallel Worlds & Self Oscillate.

As with the previous four DiN samplers DiN label boss Ian Boddy has mixed and cross-faded the 18 tracks into a continuous ambient mix that not only showcases the albums featured on the release but presents an exciting and varied title in its own right. It also highlights the varied and intriguing music that the DiN label offers on its releases from deep analogue synth grooves through vibrantly melodic instrumentals to powerful, epic ambient atmospheres. An intoxicating mix of the old and new beautifully presented in a slimline cardboard wallet with an extra flap which just adds to the value and collectibility of this release.

This compilation edited from the original tracks by Ian Boddy - January 2016"

Gear: Doepfer, A100, Analogue Systems, RS Integrator, Analogue Solutions, Concussor, Blacet, Metalbox, CGS, Serge, Buchla, Technosaurus, Selector, Moon, Synthesis Technology, MOTM, Dotcom, etc.

Binary Zone+ patch tutorial

Binary Zone+ patch tutorial from Peter Speer on Vimeo.

"Playing with the sequencing idea first presented in the Blacet Binary Zone module, this patch uses Frames (Mutable Instruments) as a voltage mixer, combining and scaling gate outputs from Tempi (Make Noise), outputting repeating melodic sequences from timing information.

Basic patch:

Tempi outs 1-4 --> Frames ins 1-4

Frames mix out --> VCO 1v/oct in

By setting channel levels on Frames, each pattern of clock divisions entering the module is referenced by a specific voltage at the output. When these patterns overlap, their voltages are summed and the resulting voltage pattern at the output grows more complex.

By modulating the State parameter on Tempi, different arrangements of patterns can be created, altering the output (essentially creating new sequences built around the same notes described by Frames' channel levels).

Likewise, by modulating the keyframe on Frames, different input levels can be recalled, altering the notes in the patterns created by the Tempi gates.

Tempi output 6 --> Tempi Gate Select, Frames Modulation

By feeding a Tempi channel back into its State select input, and multing this to Frames' modulation input (while in Sequencer mode), precisely timed alterations of the voltage sequence can be produced. Additionally, the repetition of these patterns can be offset by having an unequal number of Keyframes (Frames) and States (Tempi).

An Interview with Barry Schrader

Hi everyone! As you know Barry Schrader will be giving his farewell concert at CalArts on September 26. The following is the beginning of my interview with him. I opted to post the questions and answers as they come in.  New QAs will get a new post so you do not miss them and they will be added to this post so we have one central post for the full interview. This should make it easier for all of us to consume in our busy lives, and it will allow you to send in any questions that may come to mind during the interview process.  If you have anything you'd like to ask Barry, feel free to send it in to matrixsynth@gmail.com.  This is a rare opportunity for us to get insight on a significant bit of synthesizer history, specifically with early Buchla systems, and I'd like to thank Barry for this opportunity. Thank you Barry!

DiN48, Parallel Worlds and Self Oscillate - 'World adapter'

"Ingo Zobel (Self Oscillate) and Bakis Sirros (Parallel Worlds) first started collaborating via the internet in 2004. Their first album, “Current Flow”, under the project name “Interconnected”, was released in 2010 on the Belgian VU-US label. Following this a vinyl EP of ambient tracks called “Mechanic Environments” was released in 2013 on the Dohkonul record label.

For 'World Adapter', their second full collaborative album, Ingo and Bakis are using their more widely known aliases of Self Oscillate and Parallel Worlds respectively. Four years in the making this album is redolent with the sounds and textures of modular analogue synthesisers which both musicians are well known for employing in their music. Ingo uses a large Doepfer / Eurorack system whereas Bakis creates his complex sonic textures with Doepfer, Serge and Buchla systems as employed on his previous DiN releases (Obsessive Surrealism (DiN26), Shade (DiN32), Exit Strategy with Ian Boddy (DiN37) and Morphogenic with Dave Bessell (DiN41)).
Once their modular improvisations are recorded they are micro-edited in Ableton Live to form the ten tracks that make up “World Adapter”. On the track “Legend Silence” they collaborate with the Polish singer/composer India Czajkowska whose ethereal voice adds a distinctive flavour to this composition. The album has an IDM flavour, full of complex modulations and intricate rhythms. The duo then hang beguiling, simple melodies around these structures to create another intriguing quality release from the DiN label.

Machines used:
Doepfer, Euro, Serge, Buchla, MOTM, Moon, Blacet, Metalbox, RS-Integrator, Technosaurus & Synthesizers.com modulars.
Oberheim Xpander & OB-Mx.
Korg PE1000, MS20, Mono/Poly & Z1.
Clavia Nord Modular, Nordrack2 & Nordrack3.
Ableton Live & NI Reaktor software.
Roland System-100, Waldorf Microwave and various other string machines, analogue keyboards, tape echoes, reverbs, CV modifiers and generators."
