Wersi Analoge Bass Synthesizer AP-6 / The Wersi AP-6 Baß (Bass) Synth
Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction
"In 1977 German organ company released the two in one Bass Synthesizer AP-6. Its a bass syntheszer and a bass guitar synthesizer in one with a quarky glide setting named "Hawaii" which worked as a slide guitar function presumably to play Hawaiian style slide guitar riffs.
Billed as two instruments in one: an Electric Bass Guitar and Synthesizer, this compact light-weight instrument from German organ builders WERSI was aimed at keyboard and organ players. The purpose was to give the organist/keyboardist some Bass Guitar and Synthesizer sounds they could incorporate into their performances. It is a monophonic analog synth with funky controls, decent sounds and a unique character.
The Bass Guitar sound is actually very realistic, really capturing the sound of an electric bass guitar or acoustic bass. It has an attack control called "On" that lets you adjust the initial attack to make it sound like a picked bass or a fingered bass. A "Damp" control is essentially a sustain envelope that can be used to create more of a muted bass sound.
The Synthesizer section is pretty basic, and definitely designed using organ player lingo as opposed to synth player lingo. There a five flute stops (sine) from 16', 8', 4', 2', to 1', two brass stops (sawtooth) at 16' and 8' and a woodwind stop (square) at 8'. Multiple stops and waveforms can be simultaneously engaged to create more complex tones. These waveform sections, as well as the Bass Guitar section, have independent volume controls to balance their mix.

Musical Instrument From Future - Robkoo Wind Synthesizer R1
video upload by Robkoo Official
"Wind Synthesizer R1 is now a proud finalist of 2022 MIDI Innovation Awards.
Behold the musical instrument from future! For the first time in history, a performer of music could bring light, directly and literally, to every audience vividly. This extra dimension of musical expression responds to your breathe, and glows over 60,000 colors of your choice.
Because of its intuitive panel design, one can easily learn in minutes and gig in 2 weeks. Explore motion control, customizable hotkeys, Bluetooth connectivity, and even onboard sound banks. R1 opens a new gate for both freshers and professionals.
As our city of Shanghai continues its quarantine, we are still unable to film, while we decided to put together this video for the MIDI Awards finals. It should help new friends know R1 better.
For the overseas version, we are talking to a number of KOCs/KOLs. Many features will make adjustments based on your feedback. If you find yourself willing to give comprehensive feedback, and are capable of making high-quality videos, you may contact us for collaboration.
To learn more about R1, please visit out website: https://official.robkoo.com/"
Wind Synthesizer R1 Concept Video | Robkoo
And the press release:

SHANGHAI, CHINA: fresh from making musical waves at The 2022 NAMM Show in Anaheim, California, USA, at the invitation of the MIDI Association, a non-profit community for both the companies who develop new MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) specifications and products and the people that create music and art with MIDI, digital art-facilitating software and hardware company Robkoo is proud to announce that its revolutionary Wind Synthesizer R1 — realised as a futuristic, cyber-like MIDI wind controller instrument with responsive RGB light bars, motion control, Bluetooth connectivity, customisable hotkeys, onboard sound banks, and a dedicated app allowing amateur and professional players alike to directly (and literally) light up their performances to audiences for the first time in history, having mastered its intuitive panel design in a matter of minutes and achieved gig-readiness within weeks of first musically making its acquaintance — rocked as a Commercial Hardware category finalist in the MIDI Association’s 2022 MIDI Innovation Awards Show, itself co-founded by music technologies learning platform Music Hackspace and the non-profit NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants), where it was displayed as taking third place…
It is true to say that the most distinguishing design feature of the Wind Synthesizer R1 is how much of its slimline body actually lights up. Ultimately, an extra dimension of musical expression responds to the player’s breath, glowing to the tune of over 60,000 colours — customisable in JamKoo, Robkoo’s popular performance app for iOS and Android that automatically detects (via Bluetooth) when a Wind Synthesizer R1 is nearby and awake to provide access to all settings on a larger screen, as well as a dummy-proof guide to learning — courtesy of two lengthy, patent-protected RGB light bars with which the futuristic, cyber-like MIDI wind controller instrument is equipped. It is also the only such instrument that can be played both vertically and horizontally, whether working with the (removable/replaceable) food-grade mouthpiece manufactured from the same material as a baby pacifier for utmost health protection or the new horizontal mouthpiece, making for a cyber-flute-like performance action.
Its inbuilt gyroscope lets Wind Synthesizer R1 players spice up their performance with pitch bend and vibrato by simply moving the MIDI wind controller instrument itself. Indeed, performing with it is simply a case of playing the seven touch-sensing performance keys (positioned on its topside) — themselves exhibiting minimal noise and maximum durability — that resemble an acoustic instrument to permit playing expressively in a realistic and graceful way while switching tones in an instant, ably assisted by an OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) screen that even helps with navigating in the dark. Delve instantly into wider octaves beyond the limitations of acoustic instruments thanks to the triple-octave (-1, 0, +1, +2) keys (on the underside of Wind Synthesizer R1), while a reliable and intuitive mechanical pitch wheel lets performers pitch freely with their thumb — also customisable to trigger other controls like portamento.
Put it this way: with onboard tones sampled from top performers from around the world — working with sound suppliers like Dynamix Audio (Serbia), Impact Soundworks (USA), Kong Audio (China), Sound Magic (China), and Versilian Studios (USA), Wind Synthesizer R1 could conceivably shave off 10 or even 20 years of practice when it comes to achieving a professional-sounding performance!
Whether wirelessly or cable connected to an applicable device, by also allowing for portamento and program change alongside breath control — as implied by name, Wind Synthesizer R1 is also a capable MIDI controller that sends so much more than just note information. Interestingly, it also supports MIDI input over USB MIDI (Type-C) and Bluetooth (BLE MIDI) — not bad going for a lightweight (450g) device with 67 cm (length), 4 cm (width), and 5 cm (height) measurements making for comfortable handling. However, its slimline design belies its impressive specification, also accommodating a 3.5 mm TRS headphone output, 6.35 mm TRS audio output, and Type-C USB port. But better still, Wind Synthesizer R1 boasts a (2600mAh) battery-running time of six hours (with the RGB light bars operating), extending to 10 hours (with the RGB light bars turned off).
On the face of it, Wind Synthesizer R1 represents a highly-capable package, one which helpfully comes complete with a dust bag, neck strap, mouthpiece cap, Type-C USB cable, quickstart guide, and user manual... little wonder, then, that Wind Synthesizer R1 rocked as a Commercial Hardware category finalist in the MIDI Association’s 2022 MIDI Innovation Awards Show — something Robkoo Business Developer Tianbang Zhuang far from takes lightly, as evidenced in his well-chosen words when speaking there: “It would be unfair to say that R1 is just a wind synth with lights, or just a wind synth with motion control, or just a wind synth with a horizontal mouthpiece option. They are eye-catching, for sure, but R1 has much more layers. When we started this project, we were here to solve the problems in instrument learning. We did not add lights just because we thought it was cool, or stack those features because we thought they were cool. We added features because they can be helpful to our goal. That’s why those features can be put together as an organic whole. Think about the experience we designed for the customer: you receive it at Christmas; you say, ‘Wow! It’s cool!’; you follow the user guide and learn about it with our [JamKoo] app; and in 15 minutes you suddenly know how to play a new instrument. After two weeks you went from being someone who knows nothing about musical instruments to a confident performer — with lights and style. We are changing peoples lives with something that has so many fancy features, but doesn’t feel overwhelming at all since it still appears to be a simple and intuitive instrument.”
While Wind Synthesizer R1 is already available to buy as a commercial product in mainland China for CN¥2,999.00 RMB, Robkoo is currently working with a number of KOL (Key Opinion Leaders)/KOC (Key Opinion Consumers) on overseas firmware and other adjustments (including sound banks) with a view to making it available worldwide with a projected price tag of around $500.00 USD later this year when it is likely to become available to buy from Robkoo’s website (http://www.robkoo.com/en/) and also some selected retailers.

"An analog synth composed of modules
Eight modules
The volca modular is a semi-modular synthesizer consisting of independent analog synth modules, digital effects, and a sequencer. Each of the modules has been carefully selected for its stand-alone completeness. The modules are internally connected so that sound can be produced even before connecting the included pin cables, and the routing is shown by white lines on the panel. Module connections via a pin cable take priority over the internal connections, bypassing them.
SOURCE:
This consists of a triangle VCO carrier and a modulator. The complex overtones generated by FM modulation are sent through a wave folder circuit to add additional overtones, producing a distinctive sound. This module is important in determining the basic character of the sound of volca modular.

Two Vintage Moog Sonic Sixes
Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
video upload by Synthchaser
One via this Reverb listing, also on eBay
2nd via this Reverb listing, also on eBay
Descriptions follow.
1st Sonic Six: "The Moog Sonic Six is a rare, portable analog synthesizer with classic Moog tone and ladder filter, featuring dual VCOs, sample-and-hold, ring modulation, and a built-in speaker—all housed in a rugged suitcase-style design perfect for studio or stage. Its unique sound-shaping capabilities including X/Y modulation, and vintage character make it a prized collector’s piece and a powerful tool for experimental or classic analog synthesis. While this synthesizer is often offered by sellers at a "high on crack" price, I am pleased to offer this one for less than half of what some delusional synth dealers are trying to get for it.
The synthesizer is in good condition, but the original "Moog" logo sticker on the outside was peeled off. The power switch does not illuminate when the synthesizer is powered on. The synthesizer uses a standard IEC power cord, and one will be included. Please see photos.
This Moog Sonic Six has been serviced by Synthchaser in August 2025. Work done included:
Cleaned switches, pots and sliders
Refurbished keybed - new bushings, cleaned bus bars & contacts
Tuned & Calibrated Synthesizer"
2nd Sonic Six: "This vintage Moog Sonic Six Suitcase Analog Synthesizer powers on and makes sound, but is being offered as-is at a discount due to cosmetic and functional issues. The A, X, and Y oscillators and the Moog Ladder filter appear to be working. This can be a great opportunity for someone willing to put a little work in to get this rare synthesizer below market. The synth is being sold as-is for parts or repair, with no returns.
Please see this video showing the functional status of the synthesizer. : [video above]
Issues I noticed (you may find other issues, but the synthesizer is still being sold as-is with no returns):
Cosmetic: A power cord has been hardwired to this unit in place of the power inlet. The exterior of the case is in rough looking condition and some screws are missing and things feel loose. The synthesizer is missing all knobs and switch caps. Some of the keys are stained. 2 rubber feet are missing, so the case needs something behind it to stay open when in use.
Functional: Oscillator B appears to be dead. The ring modulator appears to not be working (perhaps due to oscillator B not working, ring mod was not tested with external input). Key contacts are dirty and not working well, bushings need to be replaced. The contour generator appears to be broken. The Contour/Pitch Control pot for the filter was replaced with a pot that doesn't extend fully through the panel, so you can't use it. Pots, sliders and switches need cleaning. Calibration needed."

NAMM: Studiologic Sledge Synthesizer
"The Studiologic Sledge Synthesizer boosts the DSP heart of the latest Waldorf modelling technology, combined with an intuative user interface. Get right into your music instead of reading manuals and learning menu structures.

So we implanted the DSP heart of the latest Waldorf modelling technology into Sledge. The result: enough power to put the foundations of your studio seriously at risk! And plenty of detail, to create the richest analogue pads you could ever want. Besides the classic analogue synthesizer waveforms, you will find a complete set of Wavetables, derived directly from the mother of all digital synthesizers, the PPG Wave.
The sum of three fat oscillators, plus a Noise generator, are fed into Sledge's powerful multimode filter with selectable 24 / 12 dB slope. The highly recognizable Waldorf filter algorithms enable a wide variety of sounds, from smooth to harsh, from fat to distinct, from pure HiFi to badass brutal. Ultra-fast, accurate envelope generators deliver ballsy punch. Two LFOs plus 1 extra Wheel-LFO are on board to offer huge, yet easy to understand, modulation capabilities. And two built-in Effect units deliver sophisticated synthesizer effects, such as Chorus, Phaser and Flanger, as well as a rich Reverb or an analogue style Delay.
And the best part – if you are familiar with the operation of a classic analogue synthesizer, you won’t have to spend any of your precious time reading the manual. There are no double or multiple functions on any of the knobs or pushbuttons. All synthesizer parameters are clearly and ergonomically arranged in front of your eyes and directly accessible under your fingertips. This makes sound design a blast, and takes you back to the pure user experience which you’ll soon realise you’ve been missing.
Specifications:
• 32 Pots
• 3 chicken head rotary switches (7 positions)
• 1 rotary encoder with push function
• 2 x 16 digits backlit LCD
• High Quality Pitch and Mod Wheel
• up to 256 Sounds
• fast and efficient sound selection via numeric keypad
• 2 fast LFOs per voice, each with adjustable Speed and Depth
• 1 extra modulation routing for Mod Wheel, with adjustable Speed and Depth
- Shape: Sawtooth, Rectangular, Triangle, Sine, Sample & Hold, Ramp
- Destination: Osc 1, Osc2, Ocs3, PWM / Wave / FM, Volume, Filter Cutoff
• Monophonic mode with single or multiple trigger
• 3 Oscillators per voice
- Range from 64' to 1' each

PRESS RELEASE -- April 22, 2025 --
Cherry Audio is proud to introduce Yellowjacket, an innovative virtual synthesizer that pays tribute to the legendary 1978 EDP Wasp synthesizer. Yellowjacket perfectly replicates the Wasp's distinct buzzy tone and its hybrid analog/digital design, while incorporating modern features that enhance its creative possibilities. The outcome is an affordable synthesizer plugin that combines a rich historical legacy with cutting-edge functionality for today's musicians and producers. Yellowjacket synthesizer is available immediately for only $49. Additionally, Yellowjacket can be purchased as part of Cherry Audio's "Build Your Own Bundle" value options, Pick 3 (on sale for $99) and Pick 6 (on sale for $149), for a limited time.
Yellowjacket perfectly embodies the appearance and charm of the original Wasp, as well as the distinctive sound of its unique oscillators and signature state-variable filter. At the same time, it pushes the limits with Cherry Audio's characteristic innovations to bring this cherished classic into the 21st century. Highlights include:
16-voice polyphony alongside monophonic, unison, and cycle modes
Two oscillators with options for sawtooth, pulse, or square waveforms, as well as the enhanced modulated pulse-wave based on EDP's Gnat synthesizer
Innovative multi-voice modes that provide per-note variation with "chained" mini-synth panels, each featuring its own settings for dynamic tonal options that can create subtle or extreme timbres, single-finger chords and arpeggiated patterns, and more
A new advanced arpeggiator featuring probability and humanize controls adds randomness to patterns. When combined with cycle modes it can create transposable and even unpredictable four-note step sequences with the touch of a single key
Enhanced performance features, including support for polyphonic aftertouch, diatonic scales, transpose functions, and more
Studio-quality integrated effects, including reverb, delay, phaser, chorus, and a new Octafuzz distortion
A vintage-style onboard speaker emulation with adjustable hiss and hum for nostalgic, lo-fi tones
The original Wasp, developed by the late Chris Huggett and Adrian Wagner for Electronic Dream Plant (EDP), was a groundbreaking instrument that combined affordability with innovative design. Introduced in 1978 for just £200, it made electronic music creation accessible to a whole new audience and influenced the sound of artists such as Nick Rhodes (Duran Duran), Dave Greenfield (The Stranglers), Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), and Thomas Dolby.
Considered Britain's foremost synthesizer designer, Yellowjacket is a celebration of Chris Huggett's pioneering spirit. Cherry Audio has incorporated its latest features into Yellowjacket inspired by his innovations, ensuring his legacy resonates with new generations of musicians.
Yellowjacket features more than 270 professionally designed presets across a dozen categories, providing limitless creative possibilities right from the start. Yellowjacket also supports velocity, channel and polyphonic aftertouch with compatible USB/MIDI controllers, and seamless DAW integration for any studio environment.
Alongside the launch of Yellowjacket, Cherry Audio is introducing the Hive Mind Preset Pack for just $9.99. This pack features an additional 100 presets designed to further showcase Yellowjacket's advanced capabilities, with a deeper dive into arpeggios, effects, modulation, and aftertouch.
Yellowjacket exemplifies Cherry Audio's commitment to providing high-quality sound at an unbeatable price. At just $49, Yellowjacket is an excellent choice for synth enthusiasts who appreciate both exceptional tone and affordability. Additionally, until May 5th, Yellowjacket can be purchased as part of Cherry Audio's "Build Your Own Bundle" options. John Entwhistle's Steiner Parker EVI
Click here for shots pulled via this auction.
"Extremely rare 1970's STEINER-PARKER Wind Synthesis in superb condition, complete with controller, synth, footpedal and cables. Formerly the property of bass and brass legend, JOHN ENTWISTLE. Complete with original transit packing addressed to John!!!
As an instrument in its own right, this is a valuable collectors item. As a piece of history for WHO afficianados, this is unique!"
"For those unfamiliar with Nyle Steiner here is a short bio.
Nyle originally conceived of the concept of a brass-style electronic synthesizer in the 1960's. He began prototyping the concept in the early 70's and in 1975 Nyle completed his first playable electric valve instrument- the 'Steiner Horn'. A woodwind version was developed soon after. Around 1971, Nyle started working on this new idea. The prototype was finished about a year later, while it was not much to look at, it worked. The first production models were offered in 1975 with the rest of the Steiner-Parker product line. According to Mr. Steiner, around 200 were produced between 1975 and 1979. Most of them were sold to University electronic music departments and pop groups (one of the first systems was sold to Earth, Wind and Fire).
"I developed my own transducer using whatever- I tried a lot of things out. A lot of the main parts I had to build myself. The first one was just a switch. You blew and it turned on and off - just like pressing a key. Later I built a proportional transducer."

1. Bach WTC Book 1, Fugue 2 on Moog Synthesizer
A performance of Fugue No. 2 from The Well-Tempered Clavier, book 1 by J. S. Bach. All sounds are created with a Moog Sub 37 analog synthesizer and Reaper.2. Bach, "Mein Jesu" on Moog Synthesizer
This performance of J. S. Bach's Aria, "Mein Jesu," was created with only a Moog Sub 37 analog synthesizer and the Reaper DAW. The arrangement is based on the string orchestra setting by Leopold Stowkowski.3. Bach WTC Book 1, Prelude 6 - featuring Moog synth EDM
Commonly performed during Lent, the lyrics describe the anguish of Jesus Christ in the garden of Gethsemane on the night before his crucifixion. Bach masterfully captures the scene with rich harmonies and a mournful melodic line.
Mein Jesu! Was für Seelenweh befällt dich in Gethsemane
Bach meets EDM. This performance of the Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 1, Prelude 6 features a Moog Sub 37 analog synthesizer accompanied by Kontakt 5. Everything was recorded and mixed in Reaper.4. Purcell, Rondeau from Abdelazer, 8-bit version on Moog Synthesizer
The famous Rondo from Henry Purcell's incidental music to Abdelazer, realized in the style of 8-bit computer game music. Square waves and white noise provided entirely by a Moog Sub 37 analog synthesizer. This is the same rondo that Benjamin Britten used as the source material for his Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra.5. A Musical Guide to the Synthesizer (Moog Sub 37)
The sound of this almost makes you wish that Abdelazer was a real RPG...
A short demonstration of common synthesizer waveforms and basic filter/LFO effects. Tutti passages bookend short examples of square waves, sawtooth waves, and triangle waves. 100% of the sounds you hear were produced on a single Moog Sub 37 analog synthesizer and mixed in the Reaper DAW.
This video features an arrangement of Purcell's famous Rondeau from the incidental music to Abdelazer. This was also the source material for Benjamin Britten's "Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra. Britten's work is copyright protected, so the form of this arrangement is based on Purcell's original design. I'm sure knowledgeable listeners will still appreciate the homage.

Waldorf Boosts Rocket Synthesizer with Free iOS App

Earlier this year, Waldorf went hell for leather to break the price/performance sound barrier when launching its revolutionary Rocket, a superficially simplistic USB-powered desktop synthesizer with digital waveforms and analogue multimode filter housed in a sturdy, compact and bijou (185 x 185 mm) casing. But beneath an eye-catching faceplate designed by synthesizer style guru Axel Hartmann lies a wealth of ear-opening sounds fit to reach for the stars! To the untrained eye it may look like the Rocket only offers a single oscillator, but truly trained Rocket scientists can soon see (and hear) that its OSC section includes some highly-flexible features: for example, selecting the sawtooth waveform switch then turning the adjacent Wave knob clockwise from the centre position adds up to eight sawtooth waves — wunderbar for producing PolySaw cluster-type sounds; selecting the sawtooth waveform and turning both the Wave and Tune knobs to their respective rightmost position activates a special unison mode whereby all eight sawtooth oscillators sound with frequencies according to the held notes, so playing a chord with up to eight notes results in that chord being played by all eight oscillators, whereas playing a single note produces just that — a single note, albeit with all eight oscillators slightly detuned to enrich the sound. Either way, it’s a big sound from a little box with much more on offer besides! Blast off by selecting Boost to add warm, distorted characteristics, perhaps?
But hitting an attractive price point while maintaing Waldorf’s all-important high-quality synthesizer sound meant making some tough design decisions. Rocket has no patch memories, for instance — no great loss to those creative types who like to sculpt sounds each and every time they play, but useful nonetheless in an age of instant recall.

What’s not to like? Rocket Control is invaluable and free! So do yourself a favour and give your Rocket a sonic boost by heading on over to Apple’s App Store and downloading Rocket Control... then reach for the stars!
iPad owners can directly download Rocket Control from Apple’s App Store for free.
The Rocket synthesizer is available to purchase from Waldorf dealers worldwide with an RRP of €244.00 EUR/$349.99 USD (including tax).

New KORG GROOVEBOX Renders

This one in via Chrome. Likely not real and just a rumor, as KORG has been focused on the new KORG MS20 Mini and KingKORG synths. The design is more a throwback to the Roland TB series which KORG has not done in the past. Why copy Roland when they have their own vintage designs. There are no teasers on the KORG site. You can find the latest KORG press releases here.
New pics:

Pics are via techhouse.sk - technika pre DJs a producentov za najlepšie ceny on Facebook
And more:

So we have the the Volca Keys, Volca Bass, and Volca Beats. The style is definitely looking more KORG than Roland in these new pics. Electribe and Monotron knobs, black cases and vintage orange KORG logo on the Volca Beats, & gold on black keys. Could these actually be real? If so, KORG have been some very busy bees...
Update 4/10/2013: They are real and only $150 each:

"volca Keys - Analogue Loop Synth
volca Bass - Analogue Bass Machine
volca Beats - Analogue Rhythm Machine
Three true-analog synthesizers with built-in sequencers to generate the ultimate analog leads, basses, and rhythms
Following in the footsteps of the monotron, monotribe, and MS-20 Mini analog synthesizers, Korg announces the volca series. volca is a new lineup of EDM production tools comprised of three distinct models: the volca Keys lead synthesizer, the volca Bass synthesizer, and the volca Beats rhythm machine. These powerful and fun-to-use true-analog devices deliver a diverse array of fat sounds that can be obtained only from an analog synthesizer. Each is also equipped with sequencing/recording capabilities for intuitively generating performances. Multiple volcas can be used in tandem via the vintage-style sync in/out, and with your favorite DAW software or MIDI keyboard via MIDI In. Battery operation and built-in speakers mean that you can conveniently play anywhere and anytime. These are the next-generation analog synthesizers, bringing you the ultimate sounds and grooves with ease and depth. Whether used together or by themselves, the volca series is poised to inject true analog power into any performance or studio setup!
SYNC jack and MIDI IN connector allow synchronized performance with multiple units or with your DAW
By using the sync jack you can enjoy synchronized playback with multiple volcas or with a monotribe. You can also use the "SyncKontrol" iPhone app to wirelessly control tap tempo, swing settings, and synchronized playback with iOS music apps via WIST.
The MIDI IN connector lets you synchronize with other devices, as well as play the volca from any MIDI keyboard. You can also send note messages from your DAW and use the volca as an analog sound module.
Self-tuning function (volca Bass and Keys only)
Until now, the problem with analog synthesizers has been that the pitch would drift over time, or because of changes in temperature. Volca solves this by providing a Self-tuning function that constantly tunes the oscillators. You'll never need to tune during a performance, or wait for the pitch to stabilize after turning the power on.
Compact size, battery-powered operation, and built-in speaker for enjoyment anywhere
With its compact size, battery operation, and built-in speaker, it's easy to take the volca anywhere and perform any time.

The ideal introductory synthesizer, with a simple – yet powerful – polyphonic analog sound engine and loop sequencer

Volca Keys is a long-awaited synthesizer that adds a new chapter to the long and storied history of Korg's analog synthesizers. This 27-key analog lead synth delivers unbelievably powerful sound in a compact body. Starting with a filter section that uses the circuitry of the legendary miniKORG700S (1974), it delivers astonishing sound that takes full advantage of Korg's half-century of know-how in circuit design.
With a simple structure that includes delay effect and a sequencer, it's also an ideal choice for a first analog synth. It offers the richly expressive sounds that are distinctive of analog, providing the enjoyment of simple yet deep sound-creation. The possibilities are endless; you can use the three oscillators to play chords, use them in unison with detune to produce solid lead lines, or apply ring modulation to create far-out metallic sounds.

Go-anywhere analogue: play anywhere with the built-in speaker and optional battery power
Even today, more than thirty years after the age dominated by analog synthesizers, we just can't let go of the sound of analog rhythm machines. Those thick sounds have the power to stand up to guitar and acoustic drums, and are still indispensable for track-making or live performance. The volca Beats gives you those analog drums plus the easy-to-use step sequencer of the Electribe; it lets you turn your inspiration into reality and generate beats with the best high quality sounds.

Update2 1/10/2013: The official Press Release:
"Korg Announces the Volca Series of Analog Synthesizers
-True-analog synthesizers with built-in sequencers are designed
to generate the ultimate analog leads, basses, or rhythms-
Musikmesse, Frankfurt, Germany, April 10th, 2013 - Korg USA has announced the Volca series of portable, true-analog synthesizers. Following in the footsteps of the Korg Monotron, Monotribe, and the MS-20 Mini synth, these next-generation true-analog instruments offer on-the-go sounds and grooves along with MIDI functionality. The series is comprised of three models: the Volca Keys lead synthesizer; the Volca Bass synthesizer; and the Volca Beats rhythm machine.
All models provide carefully selected parameters that allow users to create the distinctive, massive sounds that can only come from a true analog synthesizer. Each instrument features a loop sequencer for intuitively generating and recalling phrase-based performances. Multiple Volcas can be used in tandem thanks to vintage-style sync in/out, or with the user's DAW software via MIDI In. Convenient, optional battery operation and built-in speakers provide the ability to play anywhere at any time.
The Volca Keys represents a new chapter in Korg's long history of analog synthesizers. This 27-key analog lead synth generates sound that's more powerful than its compact, low-profile body would suggest. Its three oscillators can be tuned against each other in a variety of ways-from one part unison to three-part chords-to provide the versatility needed to create a diversity of sounds. With a filter section that utilizes the circuitry of the classic miniKORG700S (1974) plus an easy-to-use interface that includes delay effects and a 16-step sequencer, Volca Keys offers the richly expressive sounds that are distinctive of an analog synth, and combines the enjoyment of basic sound creation with deep functionality.
The Volca Bass is an analog bass line groove box that's capable of generating a wide range of bass lines. Though basic in structure, the analog sound engine has an unmistakable presence with subtle nuances that cannot be reproduced by a digital simulation, making it ideally-suited for acid house and many other styles of electronic music. Its step sequencer-distilled from Korg's Electribe series-offers a convenient, visually intuitive way to generate "free form" bass loops to stimulate inspiration. The three oscillators can be combined in several ways via a voicing function, to generate a variety of thick and modulated bass sounds.
The Volca Beats offers six fat analog drum sounds: Kick, Snare, Hi Tom, Lo Tom, Closed Hi Hat, and Open Hi Hat. It contains a wide array of sound variations that could not be produced by any means other than analog, with special emphasis on the sounds that are considered indispensable for dance music. A PCM sound engine is also included for generating clap, crash and others sounds that are better suited for PCM. Simple knob-based parameters can be used to quickly create a variety of drum sounds. For example, simply by using the three knobs (Click, Pitch, and Decay), a variety of kick sounds can be crafted, ranging from rough sounds that dominate the low range to tight sounds that keep a precise beat. In addition, a 16-part sequencer is included to easily add or remove parts.
The Volca series will be available in July 2013 for a U.S. street price of $149.99 each. Additional product information is available at Korg.com"

Hataken Interview

Back on March 31, I put up a post on Hataken, a Japanese DJ artist who primarily uses analog synths. At the time, Shane Chisolm, the manager of Don Juan Dracula mentioned Hataken was working on a remix version of DJD's "Take Me Home". Shane asked me if I'd be interested in doing an interview with Hataken, and I thought why not. It would be interesting to hear his perspective on the world of synths as a live DJ artist. The following is the result of that interview. Note, this is a long one. You will want to use page down to scroll through. If it is too long for you, I recommend reading one or two questions each time you visit the site. Each DIY item below would typically have been a separate post. There is a lot of interesting stuff here. That said, I start with an introduction followed by asking Hataken how it all started for him. Note the focus is primarily on synths as this site is about everything synth, and Hataken delivers. The gear he has both worked with and designed to meet his specific needs is overwhelming. There's also an interesting interlude on experimenting with frequency counters to produce specific frequencies of sound known to have healing properties, and of course there is a bit of the age old discussion of digital and analog.
Before we start the interview, I want to thank Hataken for taking the time out for this, and I want to thank Shane for suggesting it. It's a fascinating history of a DJ synth artist with interesting perspectives that I'm sure I will come back to over time. Be sure to check out the video and link to more at the end. And of course be sure to check out Hataken's website.
