Gary Numan's First Exposure To Synths & The Minimoog

via Under the Radar where you'll find the full interview.

"It was a very happy accident. I was in a band called Tubeway Army and we were a three-piece punk band. We went into a studio to make a record and we had three days to go and make it, which was the punk songs we were playing live. I went to the studio, never having seen a synthesizer before, and round the corner was a thing called a Minimoog which was quite a famous synthesizer. It was supposed to be collected by a hire company because somebody had rented it the day before and they’d forgotten about it. They never turned up so I started using it all day for this first day and I just loved it; I didn’t know much about them but I was having fun working it out and thought these amazing noises were coming out of this thing. I just thought it was the best thing I had ever heard.
I went to the record company and told them I’d found this synthesizer thing which was amazing and this was what I wanted to use for the future and so all those punk songs are going to be electronic punk songs, and I don’t want to be in a band anymore, I want to be a solo artist. I thought I had found something really special! The record company were really unhappy to be honest, they didn’t get it at all, they wanted a punk band and that’s it. Luckily for me they didn’t have any money so they couldn’t afford to send me back into the studio because I’d blown the budget. So they released it and it did a lot better than they expected, so they let me go back into the studio and make another album. So I went back into the studio and made another album. And then we had a single from this album that went to number one, so I went from having never seen a synthesizer before to becoming the ‘number one expert on synthesizers’ in the UK. I had a number one electronic album and people were talking about me being an electronic expert and all that, and I’d only spent about eight hours with a synthesizer because I couldn’t afford to buy one. I had the one that was left behind in the studio that first day, and we could only afford to rent one again for one more day when I made the second album, so I didn’t know much about it at all. In those early days people would ask me questions about synthesizers and programming and I didn’t know what they were talking about, and yet I was supposed to be a champion of this sound."

New Rytmik Studio Seeks Funding on Indiegogo

2049 by Martin Linda (Rytmik Studio Demo Song) Published on Oct 9, 2017 Rytmik Studio

"A demo song created in the upcoming Rytmik Studio. Rytmik Studio is in development for quite long time. The new version of Rytmik is now at a point where we can accelerate development, and we need your support to achieve this. Support us at Indiegogo."

This one was spotted and sent in via Soviet Space Child.

You might be familiar with previous incarnations of Rytmik, including Rytmik Ultimate for iPad, Rytmik World Music for Nintendo DSi & 3DS, and Rytmik Original Edition (and here), and Rytmik Rock Edition. The Rytmik DSIWare teaser was first posted here on MATRIXSYNTH back in 2010.

The are now running on Indigogo campaign for Rytmik Studio. The following are some details including the updates to previous incarnations you can expect.

"Third Generation (2017)
Rytmik Studio. That's what we are working on, and you can now support it. The jump between the second and the third generation is huge. For more specific information, please see the list of features and the description of the internal architecture of our sound engine. We are currently developing this version for PC and Mac. It will be available on Steam in Early Access later this year. The final version of Rytmik Studio will be available in 2018."

"What is Rytmik Studio?

Simply put, it's a music creation software based around a beautifully simple, yet wonderfully powerful concept. It’s flexible, instant and fun. Create a basic melody in a few steps, compose a great song in a few minutes, and show your musical flare with a whole range of instruments and effects. Rytmik Studio combines a step sequencer and a wavetable synthesizer. All this is supported by a built-in library with over 1200 samples, hundreds of instrument presets and dozens of sample songs. The results of your production can be instantly shared online, or exported to more traditional audio file formats. Rytmik Studio allows you to set different permissions and save songs to the Rytmik Cloud for users to enjoy, from simple playback and rating to remixing and collaborations. Take a song and watch how it evolves as it passes through the hands of more composers and their creative input.

Why IndieGoGo?
We have been developing games and applications for over 19 years. In 2010, we started developing the music application Rytmik for Nintendo DSi. Over time, we added new features and improved existing ones. As Rytmik grew, so did technology, and we took advantage of the more powerful hardware that became available. The latest version, Rytmik Ultimate, is available for Windows, MacOS, Nintendo 3DS, and iPad. We are now currently developing the third generation of Rytmik: Rytmik Studio.

The community behind Rytmik is growing, and we have two clear objectives. Firstly, we would like to complete Rytmik Studio sooner. Secondly, we want to involve the community in shaping the development itself. In today‘s digital age, a togetherness of development and community is essential for everybody. The new version of Rytmik Studio is now at a point where we can accelerate development, and we need your support to achieve this.

Introducing String Studio VS-2

Published on Jun 17, 2014 Applied Acoustics Systems

"Thiago Pinheiro introduces AAS' string modeling synthesizer plug-in...

String Studio VS-2 -- String Modeling Synthesizer
https://www.applied-acoustics.com/str..."

"MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA: physical modelling plug-in specialist Applied Acoustics Systems (AAS) is proud to announce availability of String Studio VS-2 for Mac OS X (10.6 or later) and Windows (XP, Vista, 7, or 8) — an updated 64-bit (AAX-, AU-, and VST-compatible) version of its original String Studio VS-1 string modelling synthesizer plug-in released to critical acclaim almost a decade ago, dispensing with the traditional synthesizer audio pathway of oscillator, filter, and envelope elements in favour of real-life string instrument components — as of June 17...

String Studio VS-2 is so much more than a routine update of its predecessor, however. Here AAS has successfully streamlined the String Studio concept and brought it kicking and screaming to a whole new level — one that will forever change both listener and player’s perspective on strings. Who better, then, to introduce that streamlined String Studio concept than Applied Acoustics Systems President and Chief Executive Officer Marc-Pierre Verge: “Strings are the basis of so many musical instruments. They can be plucked, bowed, or hit, and interact with fingers, frets, dampers, and soundboards to produce a huge range of sounds. With String Studio VS-2, we have expanded these possibilities with filters, effects, and other regular synth features. You will be amazed how far you can get with a string!”

So what’s new, exactly? Well, why don’t we start on the surface before digging deeper? Redesigned from the ground up, the new interface now divides String Studio VS-2 into three panels: Play presents shortcuts to the performance and effects parameters, including bypass switches for quick edits, as well as a genuinely apt Arpeggiator — offering various synchronisation resolutions, playing algorithms, and rhythmic patterns that will spruce up any chord progressions into percolating melodies or pulsing sequences; Edit lets users tweak and create sounds by cleverly combining innovative acoustic modelling parameters and classic synth features in a unique way — be inspired by the new sonic possibilities while feeling at ease with the familiar approach to sound design; while FX adds all-new Equalizer and Compressor modules — perfect for adding punch and definition to any sound so it cuts through any dense mix or stage setup, as well as an overhauled, reinvigorated and polished multi-effects processor featuring AAS’ best-sounding chorus, delay, phaser, flanger, distortion, notch filter, wah-wah, and reverb to date — perfect for adding a final polished, professional- sounding sheen to whatever physically modelled string sounds you can come up with!

But beyond those three attractive and user-friendly front panels awaits an array of other new features. For starters, structured organisation, backup, and sharing of sounds has never been easier, thanks to String Studio VS-2’s Bank and Program management system! Speaking of sounds, the totally refreshed factory library has well over 600 production-ready sounds already classified across 11 categories — everything needed to create all the parts of any electronic production, including a collection of 50 inspiring signature presets by producer Sean Divine — for fast and intuitive investigation prior to digging deeper when moving on to solo sonic excursions. Seasoned String Studio VS-1 users, of course, can simply drop exported presets into String Studio VS-2’s Bank folder to convert them for continued usage — no need to leave anything behind, while the more adventurous sound designers out there will welcome Scala scale file format support for microtonal music-making — why stick to the chromatic scale if you don’t have to? And speaking of experimenting with the synth’s supremely powerful parameters, a new output limiter prudently protects ears and monitors and also ensures distortion-free dynamics at all times — thoughtful touch, surely?

For sure, String Studio VS-2 is packed with premium performance features, including realtime control over any parameters via MIDI controller knobs, faders, and switches; MIDI clock, tap, and host tempo synchronisation for effects and modulations; and relaxed editing with unlimited undo/redo capability. Combine these with the benefits of physical modelling — super-smooth dynamics with no velocity layers, sound manipulation at the source core, extremely fast preset loading times, and small memory footprint, for example — and what have you got? A new breed of synthesizer, that’s what!

Just ask Brazilian keyboard virtuoso Thiago Pinheiro: “Strings can be played in so many different ways. They can be played with a finger or a pick for plucked sounds, bowed for sustained sounds, or even hammered for a percussion- or keyboard-like sound. Strings can be thick or thin, and even the position you play them makes a huge difference in terms of sound. String Studio uses physical modelling to recreate the interaction of strings, and adds to that with filter, LFO, arpeggiator, full set of effects, and more. It is very expressive to the touch and feels more like an acoustic instrument — perfect for studio and stage. String Studio can take your creativity to the next level. It can create a vast number of different sounds, so, now I can only ask you: how crazy can you go with the sound of a string?”

So what are you waiting for? Why not take your creativity to the next level with String Studio VS-2? With its unique blend of acoustic modelling and regular synth features, only you can answer the question: how crazy can you go with a string?

String Studio VS-2 is available to buy for instant download delivery directly from Applied Acoustics Systems for an introductory discounted price of $99.00 USD (rising to $199.00 USD on July 1, 2014) from here: https://www.applied-acoustics.com/string-studio-vs-2/buy/ (Note that this time-limited offer also includes the new Frontier String Studio VS-2 and AAS Player sound bank by artist and sound designer Daniel Stawczyk.)

String Studio VS-1 users can upgrade to String Studio VS-2 for $39.00 USD."

Barry Schrader, Morton Subotnick and John Payne - CalArts studio B-304

"The following flickr stream was from CalArts studio B-304 taken in the fall of 1976 featuring Barry Schrader, Morton Subotnick and John Payne and a whole lotta Buchla 500. John as you may remember came up a couple of months ago on Matrixsynth in the posting regarding Mort's use of the 300 at Ircam [link]. He went on in later years to become the Assistant Dean of the CIA School of Music and founder of it's Music Tech department. Photo b_304.2 has a good view of the entire studio, save the three other JBL's which are out of frame (it was a quad studio - there was one in each corner)."

Update: As always check the comments for more info.

via Peter:

"There are two more 500's that I know off - at Evergreen and another somewhere in Europe (pardon the senior moment, i don't remember where exactly). This is not to say there aren't others...I'm just not aware of any. The one in the photo here was the first - the development system Don constructed while on staff at CalArts. I do know the 500 was adondoned quickly and resurfaced as the 300 series which included direct routing of computer control the various modules (259 VCO and 292C Gate for example) -and- the digital VCOs."

"the box screwed into the side of the main cabinet is a speaker selector which i f i remember correctly wasn't on line. Another bit of trivia - this was taken about the time of Mort's Game Room project that Gary Chang, Jill Frazer, Darrell Johansen, Sue Harvey and I worked on. The room next to 304 (other side of the wall which is shown behind the Buchla) was 305. It had a large 100 system (three cabinets) and for the Game Room we cut a hole in the base of that wall to run audio cables out from the tape machines to play quad audio snippets into the game area. This also took signals directly from the game board in 305 where signals were decoded and sent to the various controllers (audio, film, Buchla-controlled OCR light dimmers, etc.).

Against the other wall - opposite the one behind the 500 - was studi oB-303, which was pretty much a duplicate of this one sans the computer control - so it was a 200 studio, not a 500 studio. It also had the huge JBL monitors which were hung form the ceiling on metal brackets made by Chas Smith (which are still in place today). There's a photo of 303 at Barry's Schrader's website: link

Most people preferred working in 303, mainly because the 258's were easier to get to. On the 500 system they were all on the top row, which was a pain for most. The upside - studio time was easy to book in 304 for this reason I spent a lot of the early mornings here - tarting usually at 4AM and going until classes began around 9."

via an anonymous comment:
"Evergreen has/had an early 300 its computer is non functional. There were 3 500s from what i understand, 1 went to Norway, 1 to a campus studio in NY and the 3rd was of course at CalArts..

the Norway one was moved around a lot as it was purchased by 2 or 3 studios/organizations and because of its fragile nature it didnt survive.. it was apparently parted out after it became nonfunctional.

The CalARTs system was also disassembled and parts were sold to various buyers around the US in the famouse 90's sale ..nobody is too sure what happened to the digial components..

the 3rd that was in NY was sold to a collector in the 90's, tho it should be noted that that system was returned to Buchla for upgrading/overhaul in the late 70's and was reassembled with 300 series components, so it is more of a 300 now then 500... I don't believe it has been tested or turned on in over a decade.

another note, there were 2 versions of the 300.. the early system used tech from the 500 (the gating matrix for example - which controlled early versions of the 281 and 292B gates - the remote function on later 281s and 292Cs was never implemented) the later 300s were more of a self contained system ( with 200 modules for processing ) which eventually became the Touché and the 400."

Announcing Bitwig Studio 2

Published on Jan 12, 2017 bitwig

"Today Bitwig GmbH is proud to announce Bitwig Studio 2 - the new version of the highly acclaimed music creation software for Windows, macOS and Linux."

I almost skipped this announcement as Bitwig of course is a DAW, not a synth. However, it does include a few synth features and they added VST3 support. As you can see in the video above, the current release has a big focus on the modulation capabilities of Bitwig. Below is an excerpt from their site.

As for specific soft synths included in Bitwig, they list the following 11 Devices: Drum Machine, E-Clap, E-Cowbell, E-Hat, E-Kick, E-Snare, E-Tom, FM-4, Organ, Polysynth, Sampler.

"A WORD ON MODULARITY

From the beginning, the idea of modularity has been central to Bitwig Studio. While digital audio workstations (DAWs) aren’t known for taking a modular approach, creating Bitwig Studio from the ground up allowed us to rethink previous assumptions. This led us to focus not just on individual devices but on strengthening the ways they interact with and support one another. And this ideal has born interesting, user-friendly fruit.

BITWIG STUDIO 1

Nested Device Chains

The first outcome was nested device chains, which allow you to house devices within other devices. A seemingly simple benefit of this is that device presets can now contain multiple devices, but this also opened up novel signal routing possibilities. For example, what if any device or plug-in could be used in a multiband configuration? Or if it was easy to add effects to just the wet signal? Or if devices could be added to a feedback loop..?
A core principle of modularity is that different users with different wants and needs can use the same tools in equally accessible and unique ways. Nested device chains allow newcomers to focus on richer sounds while initiated users can use additional devices as a way of extending their sonic palette. Win, win.

Modulation Sources

Another powerful outcome of modular thinking in a DAW was modulation sources. First, we created an elegant, efficient way for modulation signals to be assigned — simply clicking an arrow to go into routing mode, and then using parameter knobs themselves as attenuators. With a clean interface, it became possible to create and manage an unlimited number of modulations, all operating at audio rate.

And from there, all nested devices can be modulated as well. So instead of putting an LFO on our synth’s cutoff filter and then spending a lot of time trying to rebuild a synced LFO-effect on the distortion amount, we just assign the synth’s LFO to both the cutoff and the distortion amount. Additionally, Bitwig Studio 1 had devices made just for modulating other devices (like a standalone LFO, or a routable audio sidechain effect). A lot of freedom was provided by these early modulator devices, but at the cost of having to nest any devices you might want connect to each other.

BITWIG STUDIO 2

Modulators

The idea of modulators has been reclaimed in Bitwig Studio 2. Instead of using a standalone “modulator” device to modulate a single device, each device now has slots that can house true modulators. This means any device (or plug-in) you are using can now have an envelope added to some of its parameters. Or a stepper, or audio sidechain effect. Or 12 LFOs. As modularity dictates, how you use the tools is completely up to you.
This also serves to make things more efficient for both CPU cycles and screen real estate. Instead of building an arbitrary number of control devices onto each instrument — say, two LFOs — the user can now add and subtract these options as they see fit. And again, presets from Bitwig Studio 1 and 2 will load properly, with modulators added as needed.
We don’t add a chorus to every instrument just in case the user wants it. Instead, we create a good chorus device that you can add when you want it. We are just applying this concept to modulations now, and we look forward to what you will do with this extra flexibility.

LOOKING AHEAD

Modularity will continue to play a key role in our upcoming releases, both for users and under-the-hood. Additional devices are always under development, including some which will bring modular concepts more directly to the user. And a little bit down the road, our internal development tool for programming Bitwig Devices will be available to anyone who wants to go down that road. (You’ve probably seen some older screenshots of that environment; new paint and programming languages are coming.) We look forward to inviting you in for these enhancements and much more…
Thank you for having read this far. If you don't own Bitwig Studio yet, then come join us on our journey. We’d love to welcome you as part of the Bitwig community.

Best wishes,
The Bitwig Team"

Musikmesse: Cakewalk® Announces VS-700C V-Studio Console for SONAR 8 Producer

"Cakewalk® Announces VS-700C V-Studio Console for SONAR 8 Producer

—In response to customer demand, the VS-700C V-Studio Console, centerpiece of SONAR V-Studio 700 production system, will be made available separately as control surface for SONAR—

Frankfurt, Germany, Musikmesse (Hall 5.1, Walkway B, Stand 56) (1 April, 2009) - Cakewalk, the world's leading developer of powerful and easy to use products for music creation and recording, announces the VS-700C V-Studio Console as a standalone control surface for SONAR 8 Producer.

For over two decades, much of Cakewalk's product innovation has been driven by spirited customer dialogue. Since the initial announcement of the SONAR V-Studio 700, there has been a groundswell of requests from the SONAR community for the VS-700C to be made available as a stand-alone control surface.

The VS-700C V-Studio Console matched with SONAR 8 Producer provides the deepest hardware/software integration of any control surface available today. The VS-700C was designed jointly by Cakewalk and Roland, offers fluid control over all aspects of SONAR 8 Producer's creative, editing, and mixing capabilities, maximizing workflow and productivity. The VS-700C's dedicated implementation of ACT (Active Controller Technology) further sets it apart from all other hardware control surfaces. ACT dynamically remaps controls based on how the user is working in SONAR. Also, with the press of a button, the VS-700C provides instant control over any V-Link compatible video and imaging hardware, including the Edirol DV-7 line of direct linear video editing systems.

VS-700C Highlights:
Channel Section

* Nine 100mm touch sensitive, motorized faders arranged in a bank of eight channel strips with a master channel
* Users can tab between fader banks and lock/unlock tracks and buses to faders for maximum efficiency when mixing large projects
* Channel Branch Mode is an innovative new mixing mode, where channel strip 1 will control the volume of a selected track while the remaining channels control the associated sends for that track
* One-level undo for all faders and encoders, using the "Revert to" feature
* Total control over SONAR 8 mute and solo functionality including Dim Solo, Exclusive Solo, and Layer Mute/Solo

EQ, Send, ACT Section

* Dedicated section of 12 continuous push-button rotary encoders which can be used for EQ, Sends, or ACT control
* When controlling EQ, the rotary encoders edit four stages of parametric EQ gain, frequency, and Q for whichever channel has the focus
* In ACT mode, encoders automatically remap to control effect, instrument, or mix parameters of whatever view or plug-in has focus within SONAR

Surround and Video Implementation

* Full surround implementation with Joystick Panner, F/R Balance, LFE Send, and Width controls
* Multifunction T-bar for surround F/R balance and video hardware control
* Automate multiple surround parameters simultaneously
* Control video mixers/editors/presenters that support V-LINK protocol

Access, Project Navigation, Editing

Yes the hand is inside the iPad. With proper training and diet it is possible to fit the FL Studio Guru INSIDE an iPad.

FL STUDIO MOBILE FAQ

What about Android OS? It's on the roadmap, stop nagging! We have a development team working on a low-latency Android audio-engine and there are many screen resolutions and device specifications to consider, it's not as simple as you may think :)

Does this mean FL Studio on Mac OSX soon? FL Studio Mobile is not a port of the Windows version of FL Studio. It is the product of a completely separate development team, and code, so FL Studio Mobile, while compatible with FL Studio has no impact on FL Studio development and vice versa.

Can I load my own samples? Not in version 1.0. We plan to enable user uploads in a future update.

Can I use VSTs? No, iOS does not support VSTs and frankly the devices it runs on don't have the CPU power to perform the synthesis you are used to on a desktop. FL Studio Mobile uses high quality sample based instruments made from Image-Line plugins and sample packs.

Sequential OB-6 | Inside (ambient demo)

video upload by MIDERA

MIDERA OB-6 posts

"I have honestly stared at this synth more than any other synth for the last three years, online that is. I watched videos upon videos and thought "it sounds good... but what is it that people *love* about it?" I wasn't going to spend $2000+ on a synth without testing it. No, I only do that with everything else (like the Prophet 10 and Prophet 12). Ok, so I do do that.

I managed to play one locally. Twice. The desktop version. I walked away from my first experience thinking "Wow, their Virus TI2 sounds amazing." I own the TI1, so obviously I didn't need that. But the point was, I didn't really think the OB-6 was that great.

Then, I managed to go back, this time with my own headphones. My opinion didn't change. However, this time they had an Oberheim OB-Xa, which sounded incredible, I could hardly believe my ears. I left, again, disappointed by the OB-6.

Fast-forward, I was going to do a trade, my JX-3P + cash for a friend's OB-6 keyboard. Well, they took the JX-3P but needed the OB-6 for a show, so I let them bring that later. In the process, they decided not to keep the JX-3P, but did let me borrow their OB-6, for a few hours, just to sit and play, which was awfully kind of them. What you hear is my time with it. Or rather, the first half of that time with it. I knew nothing about it, but I *DID* tune it prior to starting recording - and it managed to get out of tune by the end.

Keith Emerson's 'Split' Minimoog Up for Auction

via this auction where you'll find a few more pics while up. The seller is Tony (Aviator) Wride. This one in via Senso.

"A unique opportunity to own a piece of Rock history! This Minimoog was one of the earliest ones owned by Keith Emerson (26 June 1973 date on keyboard) and he had the keyboard and electronics separated so that it could be used in his stage setup. Basically the keyboard was set up to slide into place when required while the electronics section remained out of the way. Please read the details below about how I ended up getting it in 1992 and look at the pictures. I have included some pictures taken in 1992 when I got the synth as well as some archive pictures of Keith and the Minimoog on stage.

THE STORY
In the early 90s I did a lot of work on analogue synths working for a number of well known bands as well as building my own analogue synth called “The Aviator”. It was basically a hobby for me. Please Google Tony Wride and Exclusively Analogue to find out more. You can ignore all the flying related stuff associated with my job!

In 1992 I was doing some work for Vince Clarke of Erasure prior to their Abbaesque tour and went to a rehearsal studio at Brent Cross in North London. Next door to the Erasure studio was another band rehearsing for their tour and it turned out to be ELP preparing for the “Black Moon” Tour! Keith had been one of my keyboard heroes and I never ever thought I would get the chance to meet him let alone see him rehearsing. I met Will Alexander, who was Keith's technician, and got talking about the famous big Moog which they planned to take on tour. "We would like to get it fitted with MIDI" said Will and I then suggested fitting a Kenton MIDI retrofit for a MiniMoog which is what I ended up doing! (See the pictures). Whilst working on the Modular I talked to Keith and Will about the gear they were going to use on tour and Will said "We need another SE1 (Basically a Minimoog in a rack with MIDI) to go in the rack but the dealer said they can't get one in time". It just so happened that I had just traded a mint condition Minimoog for an SE1 with a studio in London so sitting in the back of my car was an SE1! When I said to Will that I could get them an SE1 for the tour he asked "How soon?" "How does 3 minutes sound?" I said. Talk about coincidence!!

Keith ended up with my SE1 for the tour but I was now Minimoogless. Fortunately sitting in amongst a collection of unused ELP gear was the electronics section of a Minimoog looking in a very sorry state. I asked Will what had happened and what was happening to the remains of the Minimoog. "It's one of Keith's early MiniMoogs that had the keyboard separated from it so that it could be mounted on the Hammond. It doesn't work and the keyboard is in storage." We ended up agreeing to me having the non working "split" Minimoog as part of the deal for the SE1 on an understanding that they would send me the keyboard in the future.

Roland System-8 FM tones and melodies

video by MIDERA

"The first thing I did - wasn't this video. I first compared my JX3P to my System-8. I came to realize they are just so dissimilar. I can't tell if my JX3P is out of balance or the System 8 just doesn't do it justice, but anyway, I didn't like what I had done for a demo, so I dropped it and went to this, something I had been thinking about doing.

I spent the first few nights with the System 8 trying to see if it could replace my SY77. I learned very quickly that, no, it can't. The SY77 is the Prophet 5 of the FM world, in my opinion. Just super powerful, sounds beefy/sharp/thick, any of those adjectives. I just don't really get that feeling from the System 8. I think it's one of those things where it's a Jack of all trades, master of none. I haven't really been able to feel how the S8 will fit in to my studio/setup. Because of the first paragraph (comparison of JX3P and S8) I don't even think I could replace my JX3P either, so now I've got 3 devices where I previously had two.

I've stopped caring about how the S8 looks, and it DOES sound phenomenal, it just doesn't warrant me replacing anything else and that's a problem for me. It does have a ton of hands on controls, but I never feel like using them with FM anyway, so that doesn't really matter. Plus, the knobs just don't feel classy. But that's obviously a matter of taste. I have a lot to say on this matter - but honestly, I'll save that for the JX3P v S8 demo (that is, in no way, a very good demo/comparison).

So what do we have here? A bunch of FM-ish patches like pads and bells. So - hopefully you enjoy everything I did here. I messed up occasionally. Sorry about that.

Used Eventide Blackhole VST for reverb."
