Roland AIRA Compact J-6 / T-8 / E-4 - DEMO by gattobus

video upload by gattobus

"Roland's birthday party it's not over!
A few days ago they sent me these little magic boxes to try them out and in less than an hour of tweaking, I came out with this song!!!
The song title "A Big Tiny World" is because they are BIG sounding TINY boxes indeed! :D
They are:

- J-6 Chord Synthesizer
- T-8 Beat Machine
- E-4 Voice Tweaker

Their sound quality is astonishing! It's amazing to have the power of ACB technology in such a small form factor...
Everything you hear in this video was played and recorded in real time, no post processing or FX was added.
I had so much fun, I hope you like it!"

Auto Pitch, automatic harmony, and vocoder processors are included, along with reverb, delay, and other effects. There’s also a built-in 24-second looper for capturing performances on the fly, plus a unique Scatter function for slicing and dicing the sound via a dedicated panel knob.

05.17.2025 Purcell for fun - First test with MDI and a few synths

video upload by batchas

"Video recording that I hadn't published from the first draft with the Minimoog and Juno 60, which I finally finished repairing. I'm so happy that everything is working again. I had already installed MIDI on the Minimoog, and I just installed it on the Juno 60 as well, since I reinstalled MIDI in the studio after a loooong hiatus. The 2500 is also MIDI-enabled with the addition of a clock division and MIDI-to-CV module in the matrix.
The track is far from finished! I had gotten used to the modular, where I turn it on, patch/play, and record. Now, of course, it's going to take more preparation to achieve what I have in mind.
To be continued...

Reon Driftboxes SE, J, and W

Published on Mar 9, 2016

Note the video above is from March in 2016, so these are not technically new. Reon gear tends to be promoted via Japanese channels. As you can see their website is primarily in Japanese only.  They also do a bit of one off and customized gear. Check out the pink one!

Previously featured Reon driftboxes included the driftbox S, S ver II, R, Q, V, E, C, T, and G announced here, back in 2013. There were also modular versions and a Roland branded DriftBox R model announced in 2015. You can find demos and pics via the Reon label here.

BTW, the different spellings and capitalizations I'm using for Driftbox is on purpose. Roland branded it DriftBox with a capital D and B, and Reon interchanges between driftbox, all lowercase, and Driftbox with the capital D. I have also seen it as Drift Box.

That said, not featured here on MATRIXSYNTH before now, are the driftbox SE, J, and W. The following are some details Google translated from Reon.

Reon Driftbox R & J

Published on Sep 21, 2019 UFO LFO

"Messing about with the Driftbox J & R sound machine team. It does give one a lot of obnoxious synth noise potential. The mono drift box R is stereo spit to the two channel input on the J the, the J jay has its own pair of VCA and the R is run on hold all the panning FX are the J's VCA's"

Sequential Circuits Pro One Synthesizer SN 2064

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"I am the original owner of this Sequential Circuits Pro One vintage synthesizer, serial number 2064. I purchased it from Guitar Center Hollywood in August, 1981. The power transformer is case-mounted and the keyboard is the J-wire type. It has spent its entire life in my home recording studio and is in excellent condition as you can see in the photos.

If you're not familiar with the Pro One, its sound generation is 100% analog. The keyboard inputs are digital as are its onboard sequencer and arpeggiator. It has versatile modulation routing and is outrageously fun to play with.

I did the following to prepare it for sale:

1. Cleaned it thoroughly inside and out.

Broken beats w/ Pikocore, Dirtywave M8, Roland J-6, TE TX-6

video upload by Arman Bohn

"More experiments with the pikocore. Random chord triggering sent from the M8 to the J-6. The Pikocore is synced to the J-6 which is clocked to the M8.

I’m syncing key changes to the random chords as well. I think I’ll continue down this path towards actual pseudo random song creation … so possibly more M8 + J-6 combos in the near future. The modulation options on the J-6 are nonexistent sound design is incredibly limited. I could use another mini synth instead, maybe the great conjunction, or the kasser arcade. but that would take more cord wrangling in the m-8."

This is the first post to feature the pikocore.

Fragile 🍃 (Roland TR-6S Rhythm Performer // S-1 Tweak Synth // J-6 Chord Synth)

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"Here's a 2x 2-Minute jam featuring 3 little boxes from Roland: the TR-6S (Drums), the S-1 (Bass and Arp) and the J-6 (Pads) 🐺

I've recorded a few patterns of each of the 3 instruments which are being chained up live in this jam.

On the DRUMS side played by the TR6S, there is quite a lot going on: I mainly used the Analog Circuit Behavior and FM Engines for the drum sounds. I used a few of the real time performance tools available: STEP LOOP, FILL IN, MASTER FX (Fuzz). I also took advantage of the polymectri capabilities of the sequencer, where the KICK's sequence length is different from the rest of the pattern (on the first part, it's a 6-step sequence playing, and on the last part, a 5-step sequence 😉).

For the BASS & ARP parts, I used the S1 (which fortunately is polyphonic 😃). I also played with its integrated 'Riser' effect for the transitions.

I recorded 3 patterns on the J-6, among which the last one is being syncopated thanks its 'phrase type' feature (a bit like an arpeggiator effect). The J-6 is being synced to the S-1 by their analog clocks (through the translucent cable, where you can see a little red LED lightening up with each clock pulse coming into the J-6)."

02.07.2025 Mos-Lab & Scrotum Lab

video upload by batchas

Googlish:

"A very simple sequence to test a quantizer that I think I will adopt.
I have had nothing but technical problems since I bought modules and a Series 500 rack. It started with the 500 box that did not even fit in the rack and it continued module after module (even with new ones that did not work and that I had to exchange), until the ground loop yesterday on the DI inputs that prevented everything! In short, I would have done better to stick to my usual setup, rather than launching into the API 500. So in order to calm down, I switched to the 2500 and took the opportunity to try a quantizer (the Shakmat Bard Quartet) with a very simple sequence. I started the session with a very fast tempo ( • 02.07.2025 Mos-Lab & Scrotum Lab - Th... ) and then the sequence and the tempo softened until this end of the session which could have continued, continued, continued..."

micro wavepatterns [Busy Circuits ASQ-1 & System J Transcendant Filter]

video upload by zack dagoba

"This is my first experiment with the Busy Circuits ASQ-1

I'm using it in quantizer mode and sending it voltages from the 2 182 sequencers. It works by quantising any incoming voltage to whatever notes you select on the keyboard. Cool effect!

Also in the patch is the System J Transcendant Filter - lovely sounding m-m filter!! Thanks to James at System J for sending it to me ❤️❤️❤️

The other interesting thing about this patch is that I'm using a Kenton CV to MIDI converter so I can tigger any midi synth from the euro-rack rig. Neato!

In this case I'm triggering the Waldorf Microwave 2 made in the mid 1990s

Bye for now!"

---

Note this is the first post to feature System J and the Transcendent Filter. The following is some info via the System J website. You can find additional posts on the Busy Circuits ASQ-1 here.

"After recently designing some custom circuits for a client I've decided to make a few of them available as limited run eurorack modules - the first of these is the Transcendent VCF. Modules are custom built using mostly NOS through hole components in keeping with the original circuits and style. Panel is screen printed anodised black aluminium. This module is fairly deep at 67mm so please make sure that it will fit in your modular case. Limited run of 20 production units only. Available from June 25th. Demo clips coming soon...
if you are outside the U.K please select International Tracked & Signed shipping option during the checkout process.
Module Details:
The Transcendent VCF takes its inspiration from the classic British mono synth of the 1970s and, while not a direct clone, it brings the distinctive and unique character of that well-loved machine to the eurorack world.

The filter is a 2 pole, 12db/oct design with selectable low pass and band pass response. The resonance behaviour is quirky and unpredictable and is key to the unique sound of the Transcendent - as you advance the resonance control there are many sweet spots to explore, from subtle harmonics to howling resonant peaks.
At high resonance levels the filter will self oscillate and can be utilised as a sine wave oscillator.
CV1 input is scaled for a v/oct response and can be used for key follow effects as well as standard modulation. It has its own attenuator.
CV2 input has a wider range and is suitable for deeper modulation duties - from an LFO or envelope generator for example. It also has its own attenuator.
Two audio signal inputs are available, both with dedicated attenuators.
The final output also features a level control.

Specifications:
Width: 16hp
Depth: 67mm
Current draw: +12v 20ma, -12v 20ma
Frequency: <8hz - 18khz"

Googlish:
"I had already tried the Moog Modular on Second Life and it's more like me in real life. Since then, j'écumais different virtual music stores to find one. This is done since yesterday, Tuesday, I found very beautiful. I even invested in a hammond organ and a beautiful Steinway piano. And I am not talking about guitars.
Pending something more constructed, a small demo under water with the Moog Modular."

"First mounting Second Life. I like to find sites where you can try visual instruments, discover their potential for animation, gestures being played.
here a test on a virtual Moog Modular. It was a small impromptu much to me and suddenly I nvest in a big Moog Modular in my life.
Of course, the sound was then fitted with a sequence that I made with the Moog Modular V2 Arturia combined with arpeggiator Energy XT."

Sequential 02 : Oberheim OB-6 Sound Demo : " Massive Mod " user bank preview by I.H.R

video upload by I Hate Robots

"Sequential Oberheim OB-6 (module) - sound demo of few user programs, this is not a jam, and the video is a loop, not in realtime.

00:00 Duality
04:20 X-Rhodes
08:15 Gate 1
10:05 Lux
12:15 Alien 1
14:06 Sun
15:10 Coma
17:02 Gate 2
18:22 Nop
19:31 Dark Phaz
22:40 Omniarp
25:00 Alien 2
26:25 Berlin Mod
29:35 Crispy Pad

In practical terms, the OB-6 (keyboard or module version) is a modern and refined embodiment of all the experience and expertise of Dave Smith (Sequential) and Tom Oberheim. Its sound engine sits somewhere between the Sequential Prophet-6 and the Oberheim OB-Xa; it's essentially a fusion of the two!

It's high-end, old-school analog in the purest tradition—the sound is big, fat, deep, and powerful—but with modern digital assistance that allows it to fully exploit its capabilities and push its boundaries.

This is precisely the subject and purpose of this preset bank, which I designed entirely myself.

This is my main OB-6 bank, which I use very often for my sound design work in the studio or for my training sessions. User Bank #3 (Massive Mod), it contains a total of 96 custom presets. I'm not presenting them all here, the demo would have been far too long, but I've prepared this short demo with a few of them to give you a sonic preview of the synth and its modulation capabilities!
Sometimes I use a single preset with its modulations, either played directly on the keyboard or sequenced with a keyboard layer on top, and other times I mix two presets together (the OB-6 is monotimbral).

Everything you hear comes from the OB-6; there are no added effects, no post-production processing !

"Clone" de VCS3

Published on Mar 6, 2016 laurent

"Mon projet avance, il est quasiment 100% fonctionnel. Il reste quelques entrées/sorties et plein de réglages à faire. Mais déjà, j'ai pu valider 'positivement mon alternative à la matrice originale : elle fonctionne bien et sa maintenance sera aussi économique que simple. Dans cette démo, j'utilise le VCS3 comme un classique mono, ce n'est pas vraiment mon but. Je compte utiliser le 'midi' pour transposer de long 'patchs autonomes'."

Clone de VCS3 Putney

Published on Feb 15, 2016 laurent

I was able to use some modern components and others are easy to find for reasonable costs.
The matrix will not be 'standard'. It will use connectors as contact and will be economical. It includes a midi interface to CV + Gate, a "digital LFO" with waveforms and a mini sequencer / arpeggiator ...
I still have a noise on the "VCA" but for the rest I am already quite satisfied with the result ;)
Next steps, carpentry, a facade worthy of the name and the matrix ;)"

"Is the First VCA-CV controller + sequencer in the series, assuming a combination of a driftbox S / R synthesizer and an external device such as a sequencer. Two large joysticks control the CV output on the X axis with VCA on the Y axis. Although oscillator is not installed in driftbox J itself, by inputting audio and CV / GATE / MIDI signal from the outside, it is possible to change the level and pan without changing the audio signal groove, output the processed CV It is possible to manipulate parameters of other synthesizers.
It corresponds to synchronization by CV or MIDI as master / slave, and in manual / loop mode it can record movement of two joysticks in real time with built-in 16 step sequencer. You can also use the step mode to input stick motion for each step.

Also, real-time operation with programmed VCA and joystick can be output at the same time. By integrating programs and manual operations, sequence changes and expressions that do not predict live performance etc. are created. You can also combine multiple driftboxes J to create more complex and radical movements

XY dual CV controller
2 C manual CV output control and attenuation
2 channel programmable CV sequence output
16 steps · Program memory
