Inner City/Big Fun (Circuit Rhythm Instrumental)
video upload by Guinan
"Written in 1987 and released in 1988 Inner City’s ‘Big Fun’ was one of the first big crossover hits for House music internationally. Composed with minimal equipment and featuring Paris Grey’s iconic vocal, it set the template for many imitators and subsequent hits.
In the interview below Kevin Saunderson states that all he wanted to create was a track that could be played at the Paradise Garage, the birthplace of House. Nearly 40 years later it can still fill a dancefloor.
Much of the essence of the track comes down to the sampled sounds used. I’ve tried as far as possible to use the original sound sources for my samples and have recreated a version that fits the track into the Circuit Rhythm. What you hear (on both the instrumental and vocal versions) is recreated entirely on the Rhythm and recorded direct from the audio outs. See below for more details."

Rare Gear Demo: The Johnson Intonation Trainer (1966)
Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
video upload by Instrument Attic
via this eBay listing
"The 1966 Johnson Intonation Trainer is a rare and intriguing instrument developed by the E.F. Johnson Company of Waseca, Minnesota. Originally designed to assess pitch-matching and pitch-discrimination abilities, this device has garnered attention for its unique features and potential applications in modern music production.
One of the standout characteristics of the Johnson Intonation Trainer is its full polyphony, allowing all 37 keys to be played simultaneously. Each key is associated with its own oscillator, enabling microtonal adjustments and the exploration of unconventional scales and tunings. The instrument offers four distinct voicing options, ranging from basic sine waves to more complex, reedy tones. Additionally, the “Scale Selector” switch provides a choice between standard tempered tuning and a tunable mode, with individual “Tunable Scale Controls” corresponding to each note on the keyboard for precise pitch calibration.
Housed in a robust fiberglass case, the Intonation Trainer features a built-in speaker, though it can also be connected to external amplifiers or mixers via standard 1/4” outputs. Some units include a vibrato effect, though functionality may vary between models.
In contemporary settings, the Johnson Intonation Trainer has found a niche among experimental musicians and sound designers. Its ability to produce rich drones and facilitate microtonal exploration makes it a valuable tool for creating unique sonic textures. The instrument’s vintage analog circuitry imparts a distinctive warmth and character that is highly sought after in modern music production.
Due to limited production and the passage of time, functional units of the Johnson Intonation Trainer are exceedingly rare. Finding one in full working condition, complete with original documentation, is a remarkable discovery for collectors and enthusiasts alike. The scarcity of this instrument, combined with its unique capabilities, underscores its status as a treasured piece of audio history."

Thicken Kicks, Bass, and Synths with OCELOT Octaver
video upload by Fuse Audio Labs
Press release follows:
Fuse Audio Labs offers OCELOT Octaver as octave-down weight- and octave-up presence-delivering plugin with precision and ease
DUESSELDORF, GERMANY: truly analog-sounding plugins developer Fuse Audio Labs is proud to announce availability of OCELOT Octaver — offered up as an octave-down weight- and octave-up presence-delivering plugin with precision and ease, duly designed to add deep punch to kicks, extra growl to bass, or subtle enhancements to synth lines as a streamlined tool that reshapes source material in powerful, specific ways with zero latency and minimal CPU (Central Processing Unit) load — as of June 19…
OCELOT Octaver offers full control over the frequency focus of each octave via dedicated TUNE controls — unlike many traditional octave effects, enabling optimal low-end extension and top-end lift to be dialled in with precision as a result of this being so successfully implemented. Its Listen mode, meanwhile, aids in identifying the exact range being enhanced, enabling highly targeted and musical results.
Anchored around a state-of-the-art algorithm, OCELOT Octaver maintains signal integrity throughout. The plugin delivers consistent, phase-stable performances — even on fast transients or harmonically complex sources, contrasting wildly with the warbly, glitch-prone behaviour common to many octavers out there. The outcome is tight, clean octave content that blends naturally into the mix.
OCELOT Octaver’s detailed visual feedback supports confident decision-making at all times. There are separate level meters for each octave, the output signals providing clear level referencing, while the collapsable FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) view reveals the effect’s spectral footprint. Furthermore, octave solo options, smart key shortcuts, and global level control complete a workflow built for flexibility, precision, and speed.
“Octavers are often either too simplistic or too unpredictable to be truly useful in serious productions,” proffers Fuse Audio Labs CEO Reimund Dratwa. “We set out to change that, offering precision tuning, rock-solid tracking, and deep sound-shaping tools in a plugin that feels as creative as it is reliable,” he continues, concluding: “It’s all about inspiring results, without it getting in the way.”
OCELOT Octaver is available at a significantly discounted introductory promo price of only $29.00 USD until July 19, 2025 — rising thereafter to its regular price of $69.00 USD — directly from its dedicated webpage, which includes more in-depth information, here: https://fuseaudiolabs.com/ocelotoctaver_utmpr.html
14-day trial versions of all Fuse Audio Labs plugins without any limitations are available to download from here: https://fuseaudiolabs.com/plugins.html

Only 16 Samples?! This Minimal Eurorack Techno Slaps!
video upload by Electronisounds Audio
"I wanted to see what I could create using ONLY 16 samples.
This is a really basic setup with triggers and modulation only, no pitch sequencing.
This setup also does not allow for any velocity programming, every sound triggers at 100% max velocity - making it almost impossible to program build ups to help with the ebb and flow of the track.
I also did not have any room for riser or impact sounds which really help with keeping the intensity level a bit higher.
All things considered though, it's not a half bad track - just a little basic, perhaps... ;)

Stylophone CPM DS-2: Dark Atmospheric Sounds. No Talk Demo
video upload by Anton Anru
"Obsidian is a collection of 50 custom presets for the analog synthesizer Stylophone CPM DS-2. In this pack, you’ll find drones, textures, FXs, rhythmical patterns and sequences, and immersive soundscapes.
🔮 I was fascinated by exploring this drone machine, and in this collection, I share the results of that journey. My goal was to extract a broad variety of timbres— dark, noisy, vintage/retro, cold, dull, distorted, metallic, tense, as well as atonal, non-harmonic, FX-like, evolving, moving, and sweeping sounds.
📦 Get the soundset: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/cpm-...
📺 The soundset draws inspiration from sci-fi movies, soundtracks, dystopian narratives, urban landscapes, noise ambient albums, experimental modern art, and innovative sound design.
📻 Perfect for genres such as Dark, Noise, Ambient, Cinematic, IDM, Electronica, Dub, Deep, Techno, Industrial, Minimal, Garage, Experimental, and more. These timbres also work exceptionally well for movie soundtracks, games, apps, digital art, live sound art performances, and VR landscapes—anywhere a dark, atmospheric vibe is needed.
📓 The soundset is presented in a PDF document. Each page contains notes explaining how each patch works, which parameters to tweak during playback, and techniques to further develop the timbre during performance. By following these instructions and experimenting with the suggested settings, you’ll deepen your understanding of the synth and unlock its true potential.
🎧 Each patch also includes an audio example to help you grasp the intended sound.
💾 The collection additionally includes 24/41000 WAV samples. You can use these samples as they are, or feel free to resample, edit, and apply effects in your DAW, sampler, or granular synth. They provide versatile material for your sonic experimentation.
🖲 The Stylophone CPM DS-2 is an analog synthesizer highly sensitive to both settings and performance. I’ve done my best to document all parameters precisely; however, expect slight variations, as this is a truly alive, analog instrument. This is especially true for pitch, tuning, and FM settings—and in some cases, on the delay. The PITCH/RATE and LFO DEPTH knobs are extremely responsive— even a slight movement can shift the pitch significantly.
Many presets don’t adhere to a strict tonal center, so feel free to experiment with frequency settings. If you need to hit specific notes, I recommend using a tuner when adjusting pitch and FM."

Acustica Audio - Alice-9 (AL9) is a next-generation sample-based synthesizer in the digital domain.
video upload by 23dB Productions
ALICE: https://www.acustica-audio.com/shop/p...

Alice-9 (AL9) is a next-generation sample-based synthesizer in the digital domain, part of the Marea virtual instrument series, and powered by the innovative MUST (Modular Unified Synthesis Technology). Early testers have described it as an instrument with a deeply organic and varied sound palette — evocative of iconic synthesizers from the 1990s and early 2000s. AL9 redefines what a sample-based synth can be, merging analog realism, playable feel, and modern digital power into a single instrument. Available in VST3, AU, and AAX formats, ensuring integration with all major DAWs.
Use code: ALICESPECIAL at checkout for 41% off until August 31, 2025!
The first users compared AL9 to walking into a music store in the 1990s, hearing a synth that delivers something new and inspiring with each preset. That rare sensation of immediacy, depth, and musicality — the feeling of a “real instrument” — is the essence of AL9.
Made to Inspire
The architecture of AL9 goes far beyond sample playback or wavetable synthesis. Its sound engine is built around SCO (Sample-Controlled Oscillator), a high-resolution resampling system capable of reproducing natural analog behaviors such as frequency drift and evolving dynamics. Unlike typical static samplers or rigid waveforms, AL9’s oscillators breathe and shift like their analog ancestors.
This realism is further enhanced by the proprietary Superstereo system for natural stereo placement , the Age control that adds subtle imperfections, emulating the warmth of aged hardware and Integrated multiband dynamics processor inspired by the popular OTT compression paradigm, delivering musical glue and energetic punch.
Whether you're chasing nostalgia or forging new paths in sound design, AL9 provides an inspiring playground that rewards musicianship and creativity.
Beyond Emulation
The idea for THING originated during the development of Thing (TH8 – TH5) — an emulation of a classic 1980s DCO synth. During that process, a question arose: what if, instead of replicating digital waveforms, we could capture and reproduce the actual behavior of an analog VCO? What if we could push timbral diversity beyond the limitations of traditional synthesis methods?

The Center for Haptic Audio Interaction Research Introduces ILSE
video upload by The Center for Haptic Audio Interaction Research

via The Center for Haptic Audio Interaction Research
"Ilse the Eurorack synth voice in one DIY module is making warm but harsh Berlin Techno / Surgeon style stabs.
Ilse is an elegantly minimal, yet fully functional synthesizer voice in a compact 10 HP Eurorack module. The only thing you need to let it meow is a CV source to trigger its 1V/Oct frequency input (or a MIDI to CV converter and a MIDI sequencer) . Because it has a low part count it is ideal for Eurorack beginners or entry-level DIY projects.
Ilse is named after a cat, living in the legendary “Villa” in Weimar, Germany. The “Villa” was a place where a community lived and came together. Many underground concerts and parties took place here before the house got sold, renovated, and the mayor moved in. We created the graphics on the aluminum face-plate in her memory. Ilse (the synth) makes great acid sounds, so it was only logical to illustrate a cat tripping. Turn the knobs to make her look around or roll her eyes.
Ilse is designed to be affordable, easy to build, yet flexible, and feature rich. It is a synthesizer voice for your Eurorack, but can even be driven without a rack using two 9V batteries (not included).
Ilse is fully open source (KiCad schematic and layout is available in a git repository) and inspired by Syntherjack’s single-chip synthesizer Totoro. Check out his website with nice explanations, e.g. on the filter (we use the same filter on Ilse). We extended the design for external voltage control on filter, oscillators and LFO. Unlike Totoro, Ilse is designed around a unique oscillator design, which integrates the exponential conversion directly into the oscillator core. This results in an efficient circuitry saving you build time, parts and costs.
PCB and face-plate are manufactured in the EU. Kitting was done by our friends from Befaco in Barcelona. Complete assembly manual can be found in our forum.

Elektron Octatrack and Roland SH-4D - Live energetic performance
video upload by Jay Hosking
"A live synthesizer jam performed entirely on hardware.
This is a remix/reimagining of "Suantrai" by Jan Steiner, which is on his new EP. Jan is a friend, and a member of my Patreon community, and he reached out about the idea of a remix. The song itself is quite sparse, but beautiful and melodic, and the whole EP is a little hard to predict; I tried to take the beauty and melody, and add my own type chaos into the mix.
I started with altered versions of four of Jan's instruments (string thing, bass drone, Rhodes, light percussion) and went wild with my own additions (my own orchestra sound, off the top; mangled drum breaks; glitched percussion). This left me with some audio files I could work with in the Octatrack.
Once in the Octatrack, I realized I wanted additional melodies and sounds, so I hooked up the Roland SH-4D. The SH-4D is a four-part multi-timbral synth with a fifth layer for drums, very useful for making songs. The melody, arpeggio, extra bass, and midrange distorted drums all come from the SH-4D.
Altogether this left a pretty full arrangement, and the scenes/fader—the magic of the Octatrack—helped to bring out the performance. Most scenes were to alter the drum breaks, by reordering, repitching, and/or retriggering the drum slices, plus with additional effects like phaser, sample- and bit- reduction, distortion, etc.
The end result captures what I loved about Jan's track, and his EP in general: beautiful and melodic, sprawling but intentional, but with a little chaos thrown into the mix. I hope you enjoy.
Thanks for listening.
Elektron Octatrack MkII - Six audio sample tracks playing eight or nine audio sample parts across the song, plus effects, plus sequencing of everything (including MIDI), plus mixing of the audio from SH-4D, plus scenes
Roland SH-4D - Three synths (melody, arpeggio, bass) plus minimal drums in the finale
Performed and recorded live to a stereo output, with EQ, compression, and limiting on the master.

Exploring the Concept of an Experimental Generator
video upload by Igor Vasiliev
"Exploring the Concept of an Experimental Generator Based on Simplex Noise for Granular Synthesis
~
I'm testing the idea of an experimental generator based on simplex noise, which is then used in a granular synthesis algorithm. This design allows for the creation of a vast array of diverse waveforms rich in harmonics with a rich low-frequency spectrum. The generator is controlled by just a few simple parameters. Despite its somewhat chaotic and atonal nature, it is highly suitable for generating industrial sound structures, ominous, foreboding noise and backgrounds.
~
In this demo, sound from an experimental generator is processed by Soundsaw and Stellarvox apps to create a deep, dark, slightly creepy background. When the generator parameters are altered, the waveform undergoes significant changes, resulting in a highly diverse original sound. However, Saundsaw transforms it into a very dense texture, oversaturated with distortions and harmonics, which in Stellarvox is diffused into an inverted space with minimal presence of the original sound.
