A demonstration of the DR-SEQ-64 module by VITA SYNTHS, showing how to:
delete an existing pattern,
create a new pattern,
save and later load a pattern.
The video also shows that an unsaved pattern is not lost if the module is powered off unexpectedly, and it will be restored when the module is turned on again. This feature helps prevent loss of unsaved patterns.
"This series of studies explores an idea that Benge has been working on over the past year or so, namely that of Cybersynthesis. This involves programming self-contained patches on various modular systems which, once set in motion, will produce dynamic, evolving soundscapes, sometimes purely abstract in nature, at other times veering towards the more melodious
Many different methods were deployed in the patches, depending on the system being used, but normally multiple sequencer and switching devices were combined to give varying degrees of control over long time periods, often without repetition
Other things like random control signals and semi-random events were combined with the sequencers and switching units to bring variation to the performances the machines were making
The key idea at the heart of Cybernetics is the concept of bringing control to chaotic processes. To do this, some kind of feedback loop would ideally be established that can monitor and limit events that might otherwise spin out of control. The Serge and Modcan systems featured here each have various comparator circuits that can, to a certain extent, achieve this highly advanced synthesis feature
In the absence of such sensor paths, it is sometimes possible to use audio or voltage mixers and feedback chains to set various parameters to be on the very edge of chaotic behaviour, an approach used in many of the patches on display here
Other techniques such as the quantisation of voltages and the forcing of notes to play within certain predetermined musical scales were also employed in some of the pieces, which is another way of taming chaotic elements into into a more musical realm
Overall, a wholly experimental approach was applied to the various setups, with the intention of providing an insight into how these machines can behave. Of course, each system has an almost limitless depth to the complexity of patches available, and each track on the album provides just a single snapshot of each instrument used. But hopefully it provides an interesting glimpse into the wonders that these self-playing systems can achieve

Most people know the CR-78 (Released in 1978) as the first mass production user-programmable drum machine, (first programable Drum Machine was actually the EKO ComputeRhythm with only 15-25 made*) but many do not realise that the CR78 was the first drum machine to offer external synchronisation options, both external clock in and trigger clock out. This made it a solid time keeper, allowing tight integration with other electronic instruments in the electronic music studio.

Exploring Dual Oscillator Model 258t and Quad Function Generator Model 281t sound capabilities while recording my new EP. I was curious how the sound and response of those two modules will fit into my music and at the same time going into territories I wouldn't normally go to out of curiosity.
I've used a bunch of additional modules as my patches grew to hear how 200t modules fit with other eurorack modules and to keep everything in context, those where:
"This year marks the 50th anniversary of the creation of the ARP 2500
Introduced in 1970, the 2500 was Alan R Pearlman’s first commercial product, being sold under his company’s name Tonus Inc. Alan had come from an engineering background, having worked as a designer for a company providing equipment for NASA, which was used on the Gemini and Apollo space programmes. Indeed, some of the circuitry and hardware that was sent into space was actually used in the 2500 synthesiser, giving an indication of the quality and precision of the instrument he was responsible for creating
The team that developed the 2500 must have put much time and thought into the development of the system before it was finally put into production. Contemporaneous equipment consisted only of modular systems, and therefore the concept of the pre-wired keyboard synthesiser had not yet been formed, and the only instruments (other than electric organs) that were available were fully or semi-modular in nature
With the 2500 the decision was made to do away with the patch-cord method of interconnecting the various signals and control voltages, replacing them with a series of matrix-switches to make the connections. There are several advantages with this design philosophy, but there are also a few disadvantages which I will describe later. The biggest advantage I can see is that it makes patching the system very neat and tidy, there being no cables to work around when building sounds. On a conventionally patched system, the amount of cables can build up very quickly to become a mass of tangled wires, which can obscure the control surface and legending on the synthesiser, making it hard to see what is going on. On the 2500 the controls are always kept clear

"Seismograf is a PIC based drum module featuring coding by Jetroid. There is currently a choice of two PICs which may be used with Seismograf, ‘BD‘ and ‘SD‘. As you might expect, BD contains a range of 8 bass drums, while SD contains a range 8 of snare drums. The drum sounds are 10 bit encodings of some of our favourite electronic kits from yesteryear (see chart below). It is not possible for the user to load their own sounds onto Seismograf PICs, but there is a chance that we may release alternative drum sets as the years roll (!) by.
Select
This knob is used to select one of the 8 sounds to be triggered. It has a CV input associated with it, and when a jack is inserted into the CV input, the knob is used to attenuate the incoming control voltage. This CV input responds to 0V to 5V signals.
Tune
This knob may be used to detune the drum sound either upwards or downwards. It has a CV input associated with it, and when a jack is inserted into the CV input, the knob is used to attenuate the incoming control voltage. This CV input responds to 0V to 5V signals.
Distort
This knob may be used to introduce either one of two different types of distortion to your chosen drum sound. When set to the mid position (12 o’clock) no distortion is present. Turning the knob anti-clockwise will cause the sound to be progressively clipped harder, while turning the knob clockwise will cause the sound to be progressively more bitcrushed. This knob has a CV input associated with it, and when a jack is inserted into the CV input, the knob is used to attenuate the incoming control voltage. This CV input responds to 0V to 5V signals.
Secret Sauce
Try running the sawtooth output of an audio rate VCO into Seismograf’s trigger input, then wiggle the Tune knob manually, or apply a control voltage to the Tune input. Wow! What’s happening here then? When I first demo’ed this feature to Jetroid he buffered for a few minutes before performing a cold shutdown, unable to process what was happening to his code. Seismograf is acting kinda like a fliter, right? Well maybe! Probably more akin to oscillator sync really. As the incoming trigger is so fast, Seismograf only gets to play the initial part of it’s waveform, less on high notes, more on low notes. Additionally, there is naturally higher frequency content the higher the note and so forth. Whatever’s going on, we’re sure that you’ll agree that it sounds freaking awesome. More than just a drum module, right?"
