Galaxy 500 Studiologic SL-880

"I got the controller quite cheap years ago when someone had tried to ship it, and the shipper basically dropped it, breaking both sets of endcaps. I cleaned it up, repainted it gunmetal/DX-7 brown, added the felt strip, and the Galaxie500 nameplate (via eBay motors). The new endcaps directly from Studiologic, though no props to them for not being able to provide the custom plastic mounting hardware - I had to create a workaround with some washers and such from the hardware store."

via this craigslist post. Note via Josh who sent this one in: "As a note, I'm only selling this through craigslist locally. I will not be shipping it, unless someone wants to throw LOTS of money my way (IE, paying for the UPS store to wrap and ship it). At that point, they may as well buy a new controller and make the mods themselves. It would be cheaper."

I like this one simply because I like Galaxy 500 - great band.

MOOG Memorymoog L.A.M.M. - Lintronics

Click here for more shots via this auction.

"Hardware Upgrades Include:
* Five new jacks are installed on the rear expansion slot's cover plate: MIDI IN and MIDI OUT ports, a 1/4" stereo output jack, a 1/4" mono output jack and a FILTER input jack. Stereo output circuitry is added. If the mono output jack is used simultaneously with the stereo output jack, then the Memorymoog's six voices are spread across the stereo field (the placement of the individual voices is fixed internally). The volume of the stereo output can be adjusted only with the programmable volume pot, and the value can be stored with each individual sound.
* An analog noise circuit is added to the stereo output board to avoid the digital loop effect of the original noise generator.
* The power supply is checked for cold solder points and defective components.
* The six voice cards are removed, checked, repaired if necessary, and modified for the Lintronics Autotune algorithm. Forty-six oscillator adjustments are replaced with high-stability precision multi-turn potentiometers. Oscillator capacitors and resistors are replaced with high stability parts. These modifications ensure the long-term stability of the oscillators.
* All system boards are removed, checked for cold solder joints, tested, and repaired if necessary. Modifications for pitch bending, modulation wheel, foot pedal, and octave signals are made. After these modifications, the cutoff frequency in Keyboard Tracking mode is not only controllable by the keyboard, but also by the transpose switch, tune control, and pitch wheel.
* The Octave Board is modified so that the setting of the octave switch can be stored on a per-sound basis.
* The Digital Board is rebuilt so that the reset switch functions reliably. Microprocessor and program ROMs are replaced with upgraded components. MIDI interface circuitry is added.
* The front panel components are removed, checked, and replaced if necessary. The front panel is cleaned, and missing or damaged knobs are replaced with original Moog parts as availability permits.
* After the upgraded circuit boards are reinstalled, the instrument is 100% tested, then allowed to burn in for 7 days, then tested again."

Monads(holon)are Deities created to be companions on your every day journey. there are several of them. They will appear to you on your dreams. You will mimic the good feeling that the creatures (monads) are oozing. every creature has been programed with virtue and impeccability, it takes you into an spiral that will be the first step to a brand new day of evolution in you brain. New resources will be opened on your island (mind), so you can build your own "tower". think, breath, move, become.

He did a lot of music for commercial and cartoons but also he did stuff like this. I don't know if I would necessarily recommend this compilation. There are some real nice bits, but they are few. meh...and that's my review.
The visuals are from 'Treasure Island,' one of my favorite books, although I had never seen this version. I got it because I have this book, 'The Hollywood Book of Death' and this kid in the film is in it. Andromeda A6 - USING VOICE 15/16 AS A SCHMITT TRIGGER

The following came in via Eduardo on the A6 list. Just putting it up as an FYI and something to try one of these days on the A6. As the warning at the end of this says, be careful and refer to the manual. The following is from the A6 Tip and Tricks. It's a good place to check out what the A6 is capable of.

"22.25 USING VOICE 15/16 AS A SCHMITT TRIGGER:
(trigger envelopes, audio, etc.)
These are listed as “KEY TRIGGER 1” and “KEY TRIGGER 2” in the trigger menu. Trigger LFOs, envelopes, etc. from an external source!
Schmitt triggers are level detectors that fire a trigger whenever the set threshold is detected as having been passed.
From Mike Peake:
Is anyone using the two discrete Schmitt Triggers on the Voice 15 and Voice 16 External Audio Inputs? :-) They can be used to Trigger anything triggerable in a Program regardless of whether you use the associated audio. Funnn...
(more hints in an earlier post)
There are Schmitt Triggers on the Voice 15 and Voice 16 External Audio input jacks that are scanned and sent to the mod source list ("EXT TRIGGER 1", EXT TRIGGER 2"). Schmitt Triggers are level detectors that fire a trigger whenever the set threshold is detected as having been passed. User Programs 124 and 126 demonstrate this parameter :) Note that it's just a level threshold; you set the level of your source to trigger the envelopes along with the beat. You don't get dynamic depth control, but yes, if you have an envelope follower of your own that you can patch into the FILTER External CV Input, you can also dynamically control the Fc along with the enveloping. I don't remember offhand if the CC Pedal input is resistive or voltage. If it's voltage, it will probably be a 12-bit scan and could then be used as an assignalbe modulation source which would allow you to dynamically control the Filter Envelope's depth...
READ THE MANUAL AND FIND OUT IF THIS IS RECOMMENDED OR NOT BEFORE ACTUALLY SENDING DC VOLTAGE INTO THIS JACK--- IF IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED YOU COULD DAMAGE THE UNIT AND THIS IS PROBABLY NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. I TOLD YOU TO LOOK TO SEE BEFORE TRYING THIS.

"The Moog is played by Kenny Ascher, arrangements are done by Alan Foust and Norman Dolph produced & tuned.

Some liner stuff:
The amazing thing about all the sounds is not that they are done one voice at a time, but rather one finger at a time. The silly machine only plays one note at a time and the temptation play a chord must be overcome... you only get the lowest note if you press more than one key. Improvisation is difficult but far from impossible if you redefine the problem."

Plan B Model 11 - Prototype Demo and First Image

via REwire: "This is a demo/song using the New Plan-B Model 11 Evil Twin Bandpass Filter. I used the Prototype version and the final will be the same but a bit wider. I ran just one or two oscs, drums and some vocals all through the filter (with a bit of Reverb and Delay in my DAW). It has a 6db and 12db output that I frequently panned left and right for stereo effects. This is a Bandpass Filter that uses Vactrols (4 inside) and has controls for Frequency, Bandwidth and Resonance with CV of F and BW. When the Bandwidth is narrowed down, the resonance gets extremely crunchy and it seems to self oscillate in an erratic nature that makes it sound like all hell is going to break loose. It has a switch that patches in a second feedback mode for even more distortion, hence the "Evil Twin" reference. In my demo, I patched all sorts of LFO's, ENVs, Filter FM and hand control to twist every patch through the ringer. Can't say I've heard anything like this that wasn't coming out of a vacuum tube!"

-It can be edited via CC midi messaging.

Here is the myspace link to here a demo of what it is capable of: It was mixed down in CUBASESX

All songs are 100% SID only, the first song only has VOCODED INTRO."

Audio Damage Liquid Now Available

"Liquid is a through-zero flanger, and excels in adding vintage vibe to your recordings. From a subtle ADT effect on vocals or electric piano on up to massive "Jet" style 2-buss flanging, Liquid will bring the classic sound of real tape machine flanging to your modern DAW.

A normal flanger, at least in today's world, is just a delay line set to a very short time with some feedback. In "analog" pedals this is done with a bucket-brigade delay chip, and in DSP-based effects like digital pedals and plug-ins, it is one of the easiest effects to create. However, the original flanging effect was created by running two tape machines with the same material in sync, then varying the speed of one of them (sometimes by actually applying pressure to the flange of the tape reel with a finger) to cause some rather extreme and odd comb filtering.

Made popular by George Martin (and used heavily on John Lennon's vocals on many tracks from Revolver on) and Phil Spector (who used it on, well, just about everything), it is a classic effect that was difficult to achieve in software. Until now."

Daniel Hansson RIP

Title link takes you to the sad news on the Elektron website.

Update: when I first heard the news I was speechless. What do you say when something this tragic happens. He was too young. I put the post up with just the words above. I've received a couple of emails from readers stating I should put up a post. I'm guessing they missed the original post. Because of this I'm updating this post to make it a bit more visible, so others do not miss this terrible news. I decided to make this the last post of the day. I've lost people extremely close to me in the last few years and it is a painful, personal, and traumatic experience. Words cannot express how sorry I am for those that were close to Daniel Hansson and all who are saddened by this loss.
