Yamaha RX-17 Circuit Bent Drum Machine
"The Yamaha RX-17 features standard drum sounds including bass drum, snare, toms, hi hats, cymbal, claps, as well as latin sounds like timbales, congas, and cuico, with 1000 user programmable patterns, 10 songs memory, and programmable volume control. Full MIDI implementation makes it very flexible when using it with sequencers and other MIDI boxes as both master, slave, and a sound module. The RX-17 has MIDI in and out, stereo 1/4" outputs, and 1/4" headphone output. This unit has been professionally modified with:
* 3 noise filters- these add variable amounts of distortion, noise, and feedback
* 2 glitch switches- these turn the normal sounds into clicks and odd noises
* 16 point RCA patchbay- combine any points with included rca cables for dozens of new sounds and effects
* 1/4" line input jack with volume control(red knob) - This also works through 2 of the noise filters
* custom hardwood side panels for "vintage" synth look
* clear Lexan control panel with red LED backlights
This RX-17 operates normally with the switches in the off position, and as an extreme noise machine with the switches activated in many combinations. The Circuit Bent RX-17 is a great machine for experimental and electronic musicians looking for a unique sound and sample source. The RX-17 is powered by a 9 volt DC adapter."

CHARLES COHEN AT THE BUCHLA MUSIC EASEL
CHARLES COHEN AT THE BUCHLA MUSIC EASEL from Alex on Vimeo.
"/ / / / / Viewing with headphones or a stereo source is highly recommended / / / / /
This colorful video features sound artist Charles Cohen improvising on a 1970's Buchla Music Easel. This extremely rare instrument is one of Don Buchla's 200 series. Buchla (a pioneer of audio synthesis) only manufactured 14 of these units. The entire film was edited from an hour-long set of free improvisation, with audio was taken directly from Charles' mixing board.
All of the photography and editing was produced by Alex Tyson, a sound and video artist from Pennsylvania. The film was shot in 16:9 720p High Definition format, using a 35mm LensBaby 3GPL.
This film is free to distribute, share, blog, vlog, etc. When re-posting, please copy and paste this text to inform anyone about the film.
At this time the film is only available online. While you can stream it in HD, it is best viewed on DVD.
Please contact the filmmaker for hard copies if interested.
Charles can be reached at ccohen (at) voicenet.com .

Roland SH3 Synthesizer
"The hands of Oliver Chesler, The Horrorist in his recording studio in Berlin, Germany using his Roland SH3 synthesizer.
The Roland SH3 was produced in 1974. It is more rare than the SH3A which was put into the market after Moog sued Roland for the original SH3's filter design. This is one reason the Roland SH3 sounds so incredible. Rumor has it that less than 100 of these were ever made.
You can hear pure Roland SH3 accompanied by an Electrocomp-101 in two songs from The Horrorist: Room of Posers and Sex Machine.
If you enjoyed this video you probably will enjoy this blog: www.wiretotheear.com"

Buchla 700 Rare Synthesizer
via this auction

"It has been rumored that there are 12. I have heard that number a bit higher and a bit lower depending on who you ask. There is a Buchla 700 Yahoo group for enthusiasts so there has to be at least a few of them. It is an awesome and truly unique piece of synthesizer gear. The condition is good. There is a tiny bit of tape residue from the time it spent at JL's repair shop many years ago on the black top and a few of the screws holding down the top panel are missing but easily replaced. The external video monitor output does not work (like about 99% of Buchla 700s). You do not need the monitor to make it work - just touch the panels and off you go. It makes amazing sounds - spatially rich and unlike anything you've heard before. You can hear a LIVE sampling on my myspace site - mainstreetelectricalparade. All the blinking lights work on the bottom and the sensors appear to work well - although it is such a bizarre instrument I am never sure what I am triggering and what is automatic.
It is being sold as a rare vintage instrument. 'As is' condition with no refunds. This is your chance to own an extremely rare experimental instrument. Please do not bid on it if you have no idea what it is.
There is a ton of info on the Buchla here:
Buchla
VSE
Included in the auction: The Buchla 700, a power cable, whatever 3.5" disks I got when I bought it many years ago...a working system 3.5" disk is in the drive currently. "
More via echo7even on AH: "a 700 in this particular condition is a very crippled instrument. The 700 is based around a Graphical User Interface which requires the VSDD chip be operational and a compatable monitor be connected. Otherwise you only get access to the single basic preset and a few of the parameters for the Osc Freq, Index and Filter...the strength of the 700 are the various Osc routings, 12+ X 96 Breakpoint Envelopes (per voice (12)) and user "Timbre Table" generation and the sequencers. other 700 woes are the *sealed membrane*, CEM chips, powersupply, disk drive & backlight. if it works tho it is one of the craziest FM synths ever developed... even has its own phase shifter."

Hardware Effects and Signal Processors - Metasonix TM-1, Digitech Talker, TC Electronics Fireworx, Ibanez AD202 analog effects, Korg KP3, Boss DD-20 delay pedal, Mackie 400F audio interface, MOTU Midi Express 128 midi patchbay, Bellari 282a and 583 stereo tube compressors, Aphex 106, Art Pro Channel preamp

It's a short demonstration of parameter controlling this classic analogue synth via software. I prefer the hands on control of the PG-300, but this is a good alternative.
