Again, Popcorn is free, but you need to try our Hot dogs.

btw. Do you remember Pink's hot dogs on La Brea? It is unbelievable what is going on over there, every day all day long there is a long long line of people, it almost looks like they get paid for eating there."

I do remember pinks. Good stuff.

Virus TI LED Modification

YouTube via xDIGITONIUMx
"Tired of the red LEDs, I gave the Virus TI a personalized "Polar" look with blue and white LEDs.

The background music is a quick Virus TI sequence of ATB - Ecstasy using Sonar. All of the sounds are preset except for the main melody at the beginning. It was created using a Hypersaw oscillator tweaked to emulate ATB's sound. "

Missy vs. Virus TI

YouTube via xDIGITONIUMx. via fischek

"Using the Virus TI, I used a single waveform oscillator and an sine-type LFO to create a siren sound. If I set the LFO speed to a slow enough speed, Missy starts to howl. :-)"

Synthesizer mini-compositions

via sigma:
"We have started a mini-composition series on our gear pages. One composition is made with only one synthesizer (and some effects) in time to demonstrate the sound capabilities of that synthesizer. Compositions are made fast using improvisation and multitracking. There are allready compositions for Korg MS10, Korg PS3100, Roland SH-101, Roland S100M, Prophet Pro-1, Crumar Performer and more is coming.

There is also a free music-sample (Colossus Jam) from our Live gig in Colossus Club 8.12.2007"

DSMI - MIDI for the Nintendo DS

"So what is DSMI exactly?
DSMI consists of
* libdsmi
An open source library for DS homebrew development that makes it easy to write DS software that acts as a MIDI controller or MIDI client.

* DSMIDIWiFi Server
An application that runs on the computer and forwards the MIDI messages received via Wifi to MIDI applications.

* DS MIDI Keyboard acts as a MIDI keyboard, including pitch wheel / MIDI control adjustment by sliding the stylus vertically/horizonally.
o Kaos DS is an XY controller similar to the Kaoss pad. You can use the stylus or your fingers to adjust MIDI controls.
o Pulse DS turns the DS into a MIDI synthesizer that uses the DS's PSG (programmable sound generator) to produce Game-Boy-like sounds.

What do I need? In short, you need:
* A computer of some sort (OSX, Linux, Windows will do just fine)
* Either A wireless access point of some sort and a game that uses the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection (needed only once)
* Or A DSerial
* A Nintendo DS, obviously
* DS homebrew hardware of some sort"

YouTube via kennykeyboard
"The same rhythmic tune is played on both instruments pretty much to demonstrate contrast between a 1979 poly ensemble and a modern analog synth. My neighbors in the early 80's had a reggae band, so I came up with this riff which may or may not be stylistically correct."

Korg Lambda strings organ sounds

"Auditioning of various sounds on this 1979 offering from Korg. The strings had variable attack. The organ was pretty much as you get it. Ensemble, shelving filter, and tone tabs help define the variations possible. It works best for pads and some soloing in this mode."

Korg Poly-800 Custom Case

via this auction

"This is not a digital synth as some might say, its a true analouge unit with DCOs which are digital controlled to keep in tune and locked

Serious mod done as you can see to convert it to a stand alone desktop MIDI contolled synth module and finished in a shocking bright orange. 2 extra pots on the front for the "moog slayer" filter cut and resonance speaker blowing ear bleeding mod. Thi is a serious mod and should be used with extreme caution when uping the resonace setting in the presets... 2 osc 8 note poly synth, very simple to program and store sounds, connect to you pc laptop and send sysex info with ease for changing patches and sounds... customised unit made from a full size Poly 800 mk2 Midi in/out - Stereo outputs - Digital delay built in"

ANALOG SYNTH RUSSIAN VCF FILTER

images at this auction
"Up for sale is one of the best Russian based VCF filters with a really sour Rezonance Character. It is an External All In One unit that is self powered with a 12v AC wall adapter. It has an onboard LFO section and Pre Amp to amplify lower sound signals. This was intended for the Modualar Synthesizer People, but it can be used with Line level signals also. It can also handle a guitar/bass directly connected. It can easily Self Resonate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The actual unit is Green with red Knobs. Demos will be up soon, come back later to hear it in action.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
These are the inputs:
(1) CV
(1) FM bipolar CV
(2) Audio In (Ain)

These are the Outputs.
(1) FIlter out BP/LP (selected by swtich)
(1) LFO out
(1) LFO SQUARE OUT
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now for the hard Facts: The pre-amp section was intended for VCO analog synth Signals, It sounds very clean with these signals because these levels are usually Beefy and Big.
It can however amplify Line level by x100. But by cranking it up all the way you will hear slight distortion and a little Noise. This also applies to Guitars/bass. In other words this is not a crystal clear Pre-amp when cranked up x100 gain. This is how I wanted it to be, distorted and sour mainly for Analog Signals. I made some demos passing various signals through the filter so you can hear it in action."

Oberheim Two Voice

images at this auction
"The 2 voice is one of our favorite vintage synths. A single voice (called an SEM = Synthesizer Expander Module) is surprisingly powerful, offering 2 oscillators, 2 envelopes (1 for filter, 1 for volume), an LFO, pulse width modulation and a SWEET multimode filter with sweepable mode (which few synths offered). This 2 voice has..... 2 voices, so you can play 4 oscillators per key for a nice fat sound.
The 2 voice can play up to 2 separate pitches at once. Back in the day, this was impressive... Please click here to view our other auctions!"

ARP Axxe Model 2313

images at this auction
"If you download the manual, available at http://soundprogramming.net/manuals/Arp_Axxe_Manual.pdf, all of the functions work fine up through page 20. After that there seem to be dirty slider issues. In addition, a small circuit, a pot with a chicken head knob and 2 - 1/4" jacks were added to the output. It looks like a small buffer/possible gain amplifier is connected to the low output. A ground wire and what appears to be a wire from the power supply have both broken off leading to the additional circuit, rendering this circuit inoperable. This does not seem to affect the original output. This circuit and the jacks can be seen in the accompanying pictures. The power takes a few moments to come on after flipping the power switch, but after it is on there is no problem."

"This is the proof that you can do something fantastic with just a computer - or a tape recorder - and a home organ bought for next to nothing at a charity sale. Purists will probably say that I should play this piece on an Eminent organ like J.M.Jarres. But I think the ELKA does a good job and they are easier to find. I also wanted to somehow illustrate the seven separate tracks without some fancy video tricks. But you can see for yourself how I solved that...."

Drawdio: MacGyver Everyday Things into Musical Instruments

Drawdio: Turn Almost Anything Into a Theramin

YouTube via wakeupsilver. Be sure to click on the drawdio label below for more.

"Imagine you could draw musical instruments on normal paper with any pencil (cheap circuit thumb-tacked on) and then play them with your finger. The Drawdio circuit-craft lets you MacGuyver your everyday objects into musical instruments: paintbrushes, macaroni, trees, grandpa, even the kitchen sink...

One day I bought a "harmonium" kit at the street market in Bangalore. I hacksawed the keyboard off to make the first ever Drawdio circuit. We played with it at a local school in the slums using plants, water, our foreheads, etc. My friend told me graphite would work too. Meditating on it, I realized the Drawdio circuit should be literally attached to a pencil to "draw audio," and that's where the name came from: Draw + Audio.

DIY: Make it. Remix it. Play it."

Mini Korg DS10 Review

via Horton on the AH list:
"I finally got a copy of the Korg DS-10, and it's outstanding. I'm actually surprised at what a great job they did across the board with every last element of design and execution. First off, the thing is INSANELY ergonomic - there's an almost magical logic and intuitive workflow that comes with holding the DS in your hand and using the shoulder buttons to toggle between the different modules while interacting with them using the pen and touchscreen. It's simply something that has not yet been accomplished using any sort of mouse-driven software synthesizer or sequencer, and it is truly inspiring - I made three COMPLETE songs in the first hour or so, including building all sounds from scratch. I was most impressed by the drum section - each of the four individual drum voices (programmed xox-style on a 16-step grid) is COMPLETELY editable using the same entire MS-10 synth engine that's used for the two melodic synthesizers, patch cables and all. So the end result is basically like having 6 ms-10's sitting on a table, with a mixer, effects, two KAOSS pads, and six 16-step sequencers to control them. For every element that I thought the designer would (justifiably) skimp on, like effects routing, I discover that they actually went one step further.

I could go on about it all day, but for $40, it's an insane deal. I've actually made a google group for discussion if anyone wants to join - Outstanding!"

Custom Designed VCS3(mkII)+DK1/2 CV Interface

via SYNTHI A CLONE where you will find more info.

"new custom made VCS3 mkII module that I plan to make available in small quantities.

Custom designed with hand made afrormosia hardwood case as in the original VCS3 and original synthi knobs/sockets/styling and custom engraved panels. Different knob colour options will be available.

The Synthi VCS3-DK2 CV interface unit combines my 4 channel sequencer/CV cable with the ability to keep the DK12 keyboard connected to the VCS3. It also works equally well with a DK1 keyboard.

It allows individual switching of the 4 channels (Input ch1, Input ch2, matrix row 16 (joystick vertical control) and gate) between either external CV1-CV3, gate (via 6.35mm jacks) or DK1/2 function.

Another nice feature is it also allows the on board Oscillator in the DK1/2 to be routed in and out to external effects/filters etc before re-entering the matrix via input channel 1. This means that you can apply external effects (echo, reverb, filtering etc) of this Osc independently of the main synthi Osc1-3."
