THE VX-323 - Chansons

You might remember the Bitnotic VX-323 voice synthesizer from this post.

THE VX-323 is also a music project, "I am The VX-323, singer, songwriter, speech synthesizer. My debut CD, Chansons, is out now. The CD is packed with robo-electronica like you've never heard before. Some of you will really dig my music, while there will be some who just don't get it. That's cool...

You can listen to tracks at MySpace or Last.fm. The links are at the top of the page, next to my name. The album is available NOW through Amazon, iTunes, CD Baby, Napster, and Lala."

You can find more info at http://thevx-323.com/.

I was on the fence on whether to post this here or on MATRIXSYNTH-C. MATRIXSYNTH is about the gear and MATRIXSYNTH-C is about the artists. I decided to post it on both as the album features the synth. I received a copy of the CD as a thank you for my prior post and I must say that I really like it so far. It's surprisingly soothing to the senses - great to unwind to.

Audio Damage Re-releases Ronin

Full details at Analog Industries
Excerpt: "Now, before you Ronin nUbs get too excited, I should point out a couple things. If you're a more recent convert to Audio Damage, you might have a particular idea of the "sound" of our plug-ins. You might go so far as to say that we make things that are "rough around the edges," or "heavy-handed," or, if you're feeling salty, "Full Of Techno." Our more recent plug-ins are to Ronin as a new-born kitten is to a pit bull that has been beaten with a garden hose daily for a year straight. This plug-in is a dose of Heavy Duty.

For starters, you can route the output of any block to the input of any block, including itself. You also have full unhindered access to the feedback loop of the delays. The delays can do unity feedback, and they also have the same looping engine as Dubstation. (This plug-in is, in fact, the source of that looping engine.) As such, there is virtually no limit to how this plug-in can be routed. We normally build in limits to our plug-ins nowadays that inform how they'll be used, but in Ronin there are nonesuch, except that we're (reasonably) certain you won't set your speakers on fire."

You might remember the Monorocket custom euro cases from this post. You can find an interview with Steve R, the owner of Monorocket, on TRASH_AUDIO here. Note they are taking questions if you have them.

from the interview:
"What do you feel is missing from the market with cases?
Variety in features and pricing. That may sound cold, but this is a normal occurrence in the evolutionary cycle of any market. Apparently I wasn't alone. Monorocket is one of three companies producing cases that launched in June of this year. It was like we all appeared on the same day.I just found out that ModularWorld is already selling out of inventory and - good for them - it's a indication that there's still room for more vendors. Even though Eurorack has seen an explosion of module manufacturers, we've basically had one case manufacturer, with a couple of choices. All someone had to do was listen to the things that end users - like you - were saying (and watching you do things like screwing mults directly into unused space) and make the stuff they wanted."

2009 Remastered Vako Orchestron Disc - SOLO FRENCH HORN

YouTube via peahix
"Now available for PRE-ORDER! The second of our newly remastered Orchestron discs, SOLO FRENCH HORN. As soon as we have 15 pre-orders, we'll go to press and start shipping. It's unlikely that there will be sufficient demand to do a second run of 25 of these discs, so your best bet is to buy as many of these as you need while you can! Any future additional copies will most likely be done as one-offs, which are twice as expensive to produce, and thus will cost twice as much.

PLEASE NOTE: This disc WILL NOT play properly in an Optigan! They WILL play, but the sounds will NOT be mapped correctly to the keyboard- they will be mapped mostly haphazardly across the chord buttons. Please don't order this disc expecting to easily use it in an Optigan. In the future we will be porting the Orchestron sounds to the Optigan- please be patient! :)

This is not a simple photocopy of an original vintage Orchestron disc, it's completely re-mastered and re-created from scratch, using the original sounds from
the Orchestron master tapes. In other words, this disc won't sound 100% exactly like the original discs in every tiny detail. Specifically:

* Since there's usually no way to precisely identify the exact 2-second excerpt that was originally used from each sustained note on the master tapes (some of which can be 8-10 seconds long), we've simply chosen 2-second excerpts that sounded good in our editing situation.
* Our French Horn disc has a little more low-end and a bit less upper-mids than the original. These can both be adjusted with EQ if you're trying to precisely duplicate the overall tonality of the original discs.
* Our disc has a bit more white noise than the original, apparently an unavoidable result of the mastering process.
* The loop joints on our disc are very smooth and for the most part don't pop/thud the way the originals do.
* We've staggered the loop joints evenly across the disc (instead of placing them all at 12 o'clock), so that no two notes hit their loop joint at the same time.
* Some of our discs may have very slight periodic crosstalk on some notes (mostly noticeable on higher notes), owing to miniscule variations in the center hole punching tolerance. Said crosstalk should be well within the acceptable limits that Orchestron users are accustomed to.

So, will our disc satisfy the absolute purist? Probably not, and we won't attempt to argue otherwise. But despite the differences, to the more casual player our disc sounds very much like the original. We're confident that you'll love the sound and quality of this disc, but if you're not totally satisfied, we're happy to offer a 100% money-back guarantee. This is a labor of love for us, and we want to make sure you feel the love too!

Since the original discs came in plain white jackets, so will ours. We will be replicating the original printed paper sleeves- spelling/grammar errors and all.

Soon we will have all eight of the original Orchestron discs remastered, as well as a few brand new titles. Stay tuned!

To order, please visit http://www.optigan.com/shoptigan"

Expert Sleepers release Silent Way v1.0.0 (Mac AU)

"Expert Sleepers are proud to announce the release of Silent Way, a suite of plug-ins designed for use as part of a modular analogue synthesiser system. The plug-ins produce no sound themselves, nor do they process sound - rather, they generate signals to be used as control voltages (CVs), which can be patched into the control inputs of oscillators, filters, VCAs etc. of an analogue system.

There are currently two plug-ins in the Silent Way suite - Silent Way DC and Silent Way Voice Controller. These are described in more detail below. It is anticipated that more plug-ins will be added to the suite in the future - watch the website for product announcements.

All plug-ins also feature
* full MIDI and OSC control.
* MIDI/OSC scriptability.
* sample-accurate handling of MIDI note messages.

*Silent Way DC*
Silent Way DC is a simple plug-in that generates constant output signals. It is intended to be used in conjunction with parameter automation (via MIDI or directly by the host application) to generate varying signals. For example, you could use it as an LFO where you draw out the LFO waveform in your host’s parameter automation GUI.

*Silent Way Voice Controller*
Silent Way Voice Controller is a virtual instrument plug-in designed to directly control an analogue synthesiser by generating the appropriate CV and gate signals via an appropriate audio interface.

By listening to the synthesiser’s output signal, the plug-in is able to calibrate itself to generate the appropriate pitch CV for the incoming MIDI notes.

As well as the basic pitch and gate signals, the plug-in can generate three multi-stage envelope CVs which you can feed to VCAs, VCFs etc. in your synth.

*Pricing and availability*
Silent Way is available immediately in Mac OS X Audio Unit format, priced at $49. Mac and Windows VST formats to follow.

Expert Sleepers are currently offering a reward for purchasers who document successful use of Silent Way with their modular system - see the website for details."
