Modded TR-909

"i did the colin fraser mods (all fantastic), plus:
extended ranges for most of the decay and pitch controls
snare pitch envelope alteration switch (removes pitch decay or increases depth)
snare noise filter frequency
snare vco2 pitch
tom pitch eg cut
tom vco2 pitch
tom noise level
rim shot pitch
clap pitch
clap number (of "claps")
clap speed
clap reverb level
hh swap switch (swaps open and closed samples)
crash and ride extended pitch switches
trigger mute switches for all sounds
noise shift register tune (adjusts the rate of the noise down to digital crunchiness)
most of these were pretty easy with the schematics, swapping resistors, etc.
i think all these mods are quite useful.

Beowulf - In the Hall of the Mountian King
YouTube via paulshillitomusic
via the forum
"Just finished another classical electronica piece this time its "In the hall of the mountain king" by Greig but this time I edited clips from Beowulf (the CGI film) to the music.
Boosted my range of soft synths with CS-80V, Juptier 8V and Virtual String Machine all of which were used along with Omnisphere, a big favourite of mine and of course cubase 4.
Took about 2 weeks of evening and weekend work to do the arrangement and 2 hours to slot the video arround it, best seen in HD for Angelina Jolie alone Wink let alone the better quality audio.
Hope you enjoy
Paul"
YouTube video description:
"Beowulf set to "In the hall of the mountain king" by Edvard Grieg electronically recreated in an Isao Tomita style.
The music was created first then the clips of Beowulf were edited around the music, this I think works well because of the superb look and animation in the film together with the theme of the composition and sounds used.
Robert Zemeckis 2007 Beowulf is completely computer generated using the voices and the looks of the real actors including Ray Winstone, Angelina Jolie and Anthony Hopkins which quite suites the music I recreated, synthesised sounds for synthespians.
Music created using Jupiter 8V, CS-80V, Omnisphere, Virtual String Machine soft synths and arranged and mixed in Cubase 4."

PolyMiK breadboard synth
YouTube via MusicMiK. Remember you can search on MusicMiK on the top left for more.
"I started this project last weekend and i think this will be the synth with the shortest development time i ever made :)
Okay, in fact, much of the design was heavily inspired by the Korg Trident and the AAC Tiracon 6V, i just added sub oscillators, ring modulator, and some of the surrounding electronics. The firmware later will add a lot of power with several LFOs, multi-stage envelopes (thinking of 8 stages), microtuning and we'll see what more ideas i add into this.
I'll try to use an AVR to control this, but if it's not powerful enough, it will get an AT91SAM7S for this - like the one i use to control it currently.
The (nearly) complete 1-voice version of the synth is built on the breadboard, controlled serially by just 5 wires from the computer board, which of course will be on the main synth PCB also later.
Need to add the offset correction trimpots now, check if it's possible to do a fine calibration, then i think i will etch some voice boards to clean up the breadboard."

I do not know whether I should complete it or not! If you like it, please write a comment. If you don't, do the same! If enough people like it, i'll definitely complete it.

RBG LED Button Matrix 4x4
YouTube via 4mspedals
"This demonstrates a 4x4 button matrix. It's a cross between the Peggy 2 and Sparkfun button board, with my own hack for reading the button presses. An AVR atmega16 controls a STP16DP05 chip and twelve transistors to read the buttons and animate the LEDs. An atmega168 (like in the Arduino) would be suited as well. The matrix can be expanded up to 8x8 without any extra components (just three more button boards and wires running to the motherboard).
There's 8-colors (green, blue, cyan, red, yellow, purple, white, off), but more are possible"

Wasn't quite happy at the time, but I quite like it now, tweaked it a little bit and put together a video using old footage, so excuse the usual "he's not playing it" parts! Also threw in my cd front and back cover which I hope to have finished soon. Been spending very little time in the studio this summer (too hot!) Some of the patches are from the CS80v I was experimenting with with . Thanks again to all you people who subscribe ,support and inspire my youtube channel! :)"

LinnDrum II Update
via Roger Linn Design
"Update - July 9, 2009:
We’re still hard at work but regrettably won't be able to meet our earlier estimate of a 3rd-quarter 2009 ship date. The recent changes in the economy have caused us to rethink our design, which had become too expensive. One problem is that Dave’s customers and my customers had different views of what the product should be, so we had been working on a more elaborate design that we thought would please them both. Then the economy tanked. Oops. The other issue is that Dave and his team have been having such success with their analog synths that they’ve been spreading themselves pretty thin trying to work on both projects.
So given these circumstances, we’d prefer not to state another release date estimate at this time, but when we do we promise to post it here along with any other information we’re able to release. Also, given that Dave and his team have their hands pretty full and that a beat-oriented product is more of a Roger product anyway, we’ll probably be selling it through Roger Linn Design instead of from both companies as we had previously considered.
I’d personally love to tell everybody all the details of the product design, features and price as we did with our initial designs of the product, but there’s that pesky problem of keeping the information from our competitors. So we need to keep tight-lipped for now and regrettably can’t answer any questions. Thanks also to those who have kindly asked to place advance orders. However, we don’t feel it’s right to accept orders until we are able to release the price or more information about the product.
And now I must get back to work. :)
