J. M. Jarre - Oxygene 4 - extended version
YouTube via rfoshaug
"Original music composed by Jean Michel Jarre. Copyright recordings and music reproduced by kind permission of Francis Dreyfus Music and Jean Michel Jarre.
This is my version of Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygene Part IV. My webcam is not working so I couldn't make a "first person"-type video this time. Instead, I made my own version of the penguin video. ;-)
The penguin footage is from the documentary film "The march of the penguins", except for the last minute or so... (which is from an April Fools joke that BBC created). I decided to make a happier ending than Jarre's original penguin video. :-)
I have extended the song a little bit, both in the start and at the end. I wanted to create my own version of Oxygene IV as well as staying true to the original. The result is an 8-minute Oxygene Part IV.
Synths used:
- Korg M3 synthesizer workstation with EXB-Radias expansion card
- Korg Radias synthesizer
I hope you'll enjoy it.
:-)"
4 Tribes
YouTube via rudeog
"Every now and then I like to take these old folks out for some time in the sun. The samples on the ES are a 909 kit. Since I was holding the camera I didn't really do much tweaking except vol. level. But at least it shows these four old men doing their jobs. These are the original 4 plastic Electribes released by Korg before they started using the metal tops. It's fun to go back to the newer models after playing with these and their limitations. The biggest of these is the single effect that can be in play at any one time and the fact that you can't selectively send each sound to the delay bus. Still, you have to try to make the most of the tool you are using. And it's fun to imagine yourself in a time when these guys would have been "cutting edge"."

Audio Damage Ronin Now Available

"The original returns! One of the long-deprecated Audio Damage products, Ronin hails from a time not so kind nor gentle. This remade version features a new UI, full compatibility with current plug-in standards, and on the Mac side, the best news of all: Universal Binary VST and AU.
What we didn't change, however, is the sound. Featuring pairs of BBD-style delays, multi-mode filters, saturation, and LFOs, Ronin also is fully modular. You can route the effects however you'd like, including (if you feel like living dangerously) in to themselves. The audio path is entirely modular. Ronin also has an extensive control routing mechanism, including MIDI inputs.
NOTE: If you are an owner of Ronin V1.0, this upgrade is free, and is currently in your account in the Audio Damage store."

"An improvised performance on a Temporary Music Machine.
Binary numbers create varying patterns of on and off. The device featured in this film (a "Temporary Music Machine") uses two binary counters controlled by the performer to map these patterns to chord structures and drum sequences (via MIDI). Other controls allow for additional elements of the music to be varied.
The device is only intended to be temporary. A handmade bespoke electronic musical instrument for a limited number of performances. It is based on the Arduino platform and realised through an iterative rather then planned process."

Introducing the Moog MF-105M MIDI MuRF
video upload by MoogMusicInc
"The evolution of the MuRF continues with the MF-105M MIDI MuRF. The MF-105M combines Bob Moogs classic MuRF and Bass MuRF to make one powerful Moogerfooger. Its warm, resonant, 100% analog Mid and Bass filter bands bring you everything from shimmering timbral morphing and rhythmic stuttering to deep bass grooves, and like all Moogerfoogers, its built like a tank to stand up to the toughest touring and studio use.
We didnt stop there. In addition to the full range of Control Voltage inputs, it also sports an extensive MIDI implementation. Create tempo-synced filter sequences with MIDI Clock Sync. Change patterns with MIDI Program Change messages. Control front panel knob settings with MIDI CC messages and play the filters in real-time with MIDI Note On commands.
Its equally at home on the floor, table-top or rack mount, and with all this sound and control in one package, the MF-105M MIDI MuRF connects you to a world of sonic expression, with tight integration into todays performance, production, DJ and remix environments."
Update: official press release and images.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (July 17, 2009) – Can’t decide between the MuRF and Bass MuRF? Get both in one package!
The evolution of the MuRF continues with the MF-105M MIDI MuRF. The MF-105M combines
Bob Moog’s classic MuRF and Bass MuRF to make one powerful Moogerfooger. Its warm, resonant, 100% analog Mid and Bass filter bands bring you everything from shimmering timbral morphing and rhythmic stuttering to deep bass grooves, and like all Moogerfoogers, it’s built like a tank to stand up to the toughest touring and studio use.
“MuRF” stands for "Multiple Resonance Filter Array". The MIDI MuRF has 8 filters - their levels are controlled by 8 sliders. It looks like a graphic EQ, but what is really unique is the ability to animate the filters with 24 user-editable sequence patterns. Like the MuRF and Bass MuRF before it, the rate of the patterns can be set by a knob, an expression pedal or with Tap Tempo. Rhythmic variations can be created by adjusting the levels of the filters and the Envelope control sets the shape of the modulation.
We didn’t stop there. “It’s equally at home on the floor, table-top or rack mount” said Moog Applications Engineer, Amos Gaynes. “With all this sound and control in one package, the MIDI MuRF connects you to a world of sonic expression, with tight integration into today’s performance, production, DJ and remix environments.”

And of course, more than one can be used at once!"

Vermona DRM1 MKIII with CV Triggers

"The DRM1 MKIII is an eight-channel, completely analog drum synthesizer. It gives you total control over every parameter through its 72 controls. The trigger option allows you to integrate voltage control to cue each sound plus open and close the hi hats.
The new version has following changes:
- KICK channel instead of the DRUM1 channel. The Kick channel has some different parameters and can create fatter and deeper kick sounds.
- The DRUM channels have a WAVE parameter which transforms the oscillator's waveform from sine to square
- The oscillators of the DRUM channels will be started with each trig signal.
The DRM1 Mk III is a flexible 8-channel drum synthesizer, which gives you the ability to create your own sounds, as well as many other classic analog drum sounds. Every sound parameter of the DRM1 Mk III has its own controller, so its easy to use and you'll always have a clear picture of the settings.
Features
Control Features and Connections:
· MASTER: Sets the main output level of the DRM1 Mk III
· TRIG: Button for triggering the sound.
· TRIG LED: Flashes when the sound is triggered
· SOUND: Programming parameter controls
· PAN: Places the sound in the stereo field
· VOLUME: Individual volume control for each channel
· OUT: Individual output/insert jack
· PHONES: Jack for connecting a headphone
· OUT RIGHT/OUT LEFT: Master output right and left
· MIDI THRU/MIDI IN: MIDI jacks for connecting a MIDI source and for putting the MIDI signal through the DRM1 Mk III
· POWER IN: Power jack with integrated fuse"
Quasimidi Rave-O-Lution

"Manufacturer's Description:
The RaveOLution is a stand alone groove box that has taken the techno world by storm. Very popular among DJ's for live performance and interaction with the audience! It features a very advanced sequencer and a host of excellent analog and electronic drum and bass synth sounds. The 309 is very intuitive and easy to get started using. Play with the patterns or make your own. All real-time tweaks can be recorded into your sequence for later playback!
The 5 part multitimbral feature is the secret to this units power for live and interactive performances. The 5 separate parts are Kick, Snares, Hi-Hats, percussion and bass synth. During your performance you can mute any of these parts to drop the beat or isolate the kick, thus building or lowering the groove and your audiences energy! A plethora of knobs offer quick and easy access to filter and envelope modulation for shaping and morphing the music. The 309 is also well suited for studio work with complete MIDI implementation that includes all real-time controls and knobs.
The 309 is truly an instant dance machine! It sounds great for analog emulation synthesis! It looks pretty cool and comes from a company that knows all about Trance and Techno music. The RaveOLution 309 is an obvious choice for anybody seriously looking to get into dance music with an affordable all-in-one box that will grow and remain useful in your studio and music for as long as techno is still around!"

Rare 1974 Roland SH-3 Synthesizer SN 240400

via this auction
Note this is not the the more common SH-3A model. Surprisingly a few have come up in the past.
Update: see this post regarding the Moog filter. Apparently the SH-3 does not have a Moog filter as stated below.

The following is a blurb I found at the wikidot forums (wikipedia):
The Roland SH3 was produced in 1974. It is more rare than the SH3A which was put into the market after Moog sued Roland for the original SH3's filter design. It is believed that less than 100 of these were ever made. The replacement SH-3a is a monophonic analog synthesizer manufactured by Roland from 1974 to 1981. It is unique in that it is capable of both subtractive synthesis and additive synthesis. Two LFOs and a unique S&H section provided capabilities not found in contemporary self-contained synthesizers of the time. The rhythmic pulsing in the Blondie song "Heart of Glass" is an example of its sound." SH-3 vs. SH-3A
Updates via otto in the comments:
"info on SH-3: here"
"There were probably closer to 700+ of these made. The less than 50 seems to be a myth spawned from a sound on sound article. Still not all that common."

Don Martin Moog Modules
images via this auction
The infamous Don Martin Moog modular. For those that do not know the story, Don Martin obtained the rights to the MOOG name after the company went under and while Bob Moog was doing business as Big Briar. Bob Moog eventually won his name back, but not without having to fight for it. You can see a letter from Bob regarding the name in this post. Be sure to click on the Donimoog or Don Martin link at the bottom of this post for more. The "Donimoog" refered to the Don Martin Minimoog. You can see some in the prior posts.
The modules in these auctions are an interesting bit of synth history.
Modules listed (note the first 901A nd 910 power supply are genuine RA Moog):
1 x '71 Moog Modular 901A Osc Controller Module
1 x RA MOOG 910 power supply
2 x MOOG 901A / Don Martin 9501B
2 x MOOG 911 / Don Martin 9511
1 x MOOG 902 / Don Martin 9502
1 x MOOG 904A / Don Martin 9504A
Note the Don Martin modules added the 5 after the 9. Also note the 901A is a 9501B? Not sure if that was a typo in the auction or the correct labeling per Don Martin.
