AudioCube test #1

"Here's a little preview of the new stuff I'm developing for Percussa. Their AudioCubes are really amazing controllers and offer a unique opportunity to design music interfaces that are truly original. Here's my first step in that direction..."

AudioCube test #2

"Here's some further progress on the AudioCubes software I've been working on for Percussa. Here I've added a looping feature, so whenever the player is not immediately interacting with the cube, the most recent interactions are looped. Also I added a VST host so that any VSTi can be loaded and manipulated with this patch."

ResoDrum 1

YouTube via AlloyElectric
"This is an electronic instrument played like a hand drum. It is both sensor and speaker. The sounds you are hearing are coming from the ResoDrum itself via a transducer bolted to the underside. Tap on it lightly and you get small percussion sounds; hit it hard and it goes berserk.

(Note that the audio and video are slightly out of sync. The ResoDrum reacts without noticeable latency.)"

Muff Wiggler Forum July 2009 Gathering

YouTube via scootermccrae

"On July 18th, 2009, I had a number of strangers who I know (or know of) from the muggwiggler.com forum come to my apartment to have fun working with the modular analog audio equipment I had lying around or the machinery they brought over themselves to integrate into whatever systems we were spontaneously creating.

So there was much drunken debauchery and noise-making to be had amongst the participants.

Keep in mind that this is just a non-linear overview of the day that demonstrates how people traveled from one room to another to patch cables and twiddled knobs. Over the course of the nine hours that people spent in my apartment, there were many audio breakthroughs and learning experiences that would be impossible to document here without a far more thorough camerperson than myself at the helm.

Needless to say, as the cameraperson, I'm not in this video -- so it's NOT a Mondo Modular episode (so I apologize to any subscribers expecting otherwise).

Please enjoy and thanks as always for checking this out.

The Amazing Spectralis II -Now part of the DIV digital rig

YouTube via kipptumor
"This is the Spectralis II (brand new model) taking it's clock signal from Red Voyager Beat extractor that is literally listening to the mix coming from the laptop/Ableton set-up. Once you understand what exactly is going on in this video the top of your skull will pop off and your mind will do a 360 in mid-air, returning to its original position, but altered in a permanent state of "you're kidding". This is the bare-boned digital system (without the Kaoss pad, Kaossilator, or Percussa audio cubes, and, obviously, without the video gear), using only the Logitech joystick to cherry-pick through the on-screen clips & activate the effects for each channel, the Novation X Station to fade the 8 channels on screen up and down and its joystick to control Ableton's effects' parameters, and, of course, the amazing Spectralis II from Radikal technologies. The silkscreening is still a little tacky it's so new (just kidding-it is beautiful). This is just me finally getting the hang of this thing (sort of) at 1:30 in the morning. The music is a mixture of the Spectralis' other-worldly sounds, our own MIDI mixes (original compositions), other artists' music, and a lot of beats, grooves, and loops at all times. I even demonstrate the ability to "jam" along on the X Station's built-in 300-voice digital synthesizer. Enjoy! More thrills await you at www.divelectro.com"

Flight of Harmony: Choices + Plague Bearers

YouTube via thedeepelement
"I've been meaning to make a quick video of the Choices and Plague Bearer modules together for some time because they're quite a dangerous combo. The patch is a bit complicated but essentially both the X and the Y axis outputs are going into mults, those mults are plugged into the Plague Bearers along with a Tip Top Audio Z2040 Cutoff. The audio sources are coming from Tip Top Audio Z3000's FMing each other. I used a combination of the room and line audio so a fan is audible.

flickr by Analogue Haven

"The Elby Designs ED109 TGTSH is now in-stock. This module is the second collaboration between Laurie Biddulph of Elby Designs and Ian Fritz ( home.comcast.net/~ijfritz/index.htm ). The first collaboration was with the popular ChaQuO ( www.analoguehaven.com/elbydesigns/chaquo/ ).

The TGTSH combines two important synthesizer functions. It produces trigger and gate signals whenever a "timing" signal input crosses a user-defined threshold. At the same time, the trigger pulse fires a high-performance sample-and-hold circuit that samples a second "main" signal input. The module is only 10 HP in size and requires very little power to operate. LINK: www.analoguehaven.com/elbydesigns/ed109/."

"Broadwave" Modular Synthesizer

via this auction
Note this is not an ARP 2600 clone.
"This synth is almost entirely made from Ray Wilson's designs and his high quality PCB's (www.musicfromouterspace.com). It's a completely home made affair, and as such I would prefer bidders to be familiar with Synth DIY techniques, as calibration and trouble shooting is not for the feint of heart : )

No keyboard is supplied, and as such you will need either a MIDI to CV converter or Keyboard capable of delivering the standard 1v/Oct, Gate and Trigger.

The case is made from 12mm, black Tolex covered MDF (unfortunately the Tolex on the back panel has started to lift, so will need to be re-glued), with protected corners and carrying handle. All the panels are made from 2mm aluminium with dye sublimated graphics directly onto a 0.5mm aluminium substrate. As you can see from the pics, the panels are mounted quite crudely onto the MDF frame and would benefit from someone who's prepared to spend a bit of TLC on it. All circuit schematics and calibration info is included.

The measurements are: 215mm (D) x 840mm (W) x 490 (H) and weighs 16 kilos

As it stands, all modules are fully working and consists of the following:

4 x VCO - 3 x CV Mod inputs, 1 x Linear FM input, 2 x PWM CV inputs, Sync in/out, Saw, Square, Triangle, Sine outs

1 x 24dB Low Pass VCF - 4 x Signal inputs, 2 x CV Mod inputs, 1 x Resonance CV Mod input, VCF out

1 x 12dB State Variable VCF - As above but with Low, Band and High Pass outputs

2 x VCA - Signal in, 2 x CV Mod inputs, Log/Lin select, VCA out

3 x ADSR - Gate in, Trigger in, Short/Long Time switch, Gate indicator, ADSR out

2 x Voltage Controlled LFO - 2 x CV Mod in, 1 x PWM CV Mod in, Saw, Square, Ramp, Triangle outs

1 x Noise Module - White, High Pass, Low and Grainy out, Random Trigger out

1 x Sample & Hold with Lag - Sample in, CV for Clock Rate, Trigger out, Sync in, CV Out

2 x Ring Mod - 1 x AC Coupled, 1 x DC Coupled

4 Channel AC/DC Mixer/Inverter - Each channel has 3 inputs, Inverted output available

2 x Lag Processor

4 x Buffers (1 in 4 out)

4 x Passive Multiples (4 groups of 5, normalised for 2 groups of 10)

8 x Passive Multiples

1 x +/- 15 volt, 1A PSU - Internally mounted (From a Crumar Stratus, but does the job admirably!)

20 Patch leads to get you going!

One Module is incomplete, which was made for MIDI to CV. The panel and sockets are in place, but no electronics are supplied." See the Broadwave label below for more.

ANALOG SYNTH RUSSIAN VCF FILTER

via this auction
"THESE ARE THE FEATURES AND HOW TO USE THEM:

-CV INPUT JACK: THIS INPUT STARTS AT ZERO AND GOES POSITIVE. THE CV KNOB THEN DETERMINES HOW MUCH MODULATION IS TO BE APPLIED

-FM INPUT JACK: THIS INPUT IS BI-POLAR AND SIMILAR TO THE CV INPUT. THE FM KNOB THEN SWEEPS FROM NEGATIVE TO POSTIVE. THE MIDDLE POSITION IS ZERO.

-(2) AUDIO INPUTS: THESE CAN BE LINE LEVEL, MODULAR VCO’S, ETC. THERE ARE (2) GAINS IF THE SIGNAL IS TO WEAK. WHEN OVERDRIVEN WITH A HEALTHY SIGNAL IT WILL SOFT CLIP AND SOUND TUBE-LIKE.

-THE LOWPASS AND BANDPASS JACKS ARE THE FILTER OUTPUTS. NORMALLY YOU CONNECT THIS TO A VCA NEXT. YOU CAN USE THE ONBOARD VCA. IT REQUIRES YOU TO MANUALLY MAKE THE PATCH.

-THE VCA KNOB IS TO ADJUST THE GATE MARK WHEN TOGGLING BETWEEN LOG AND LIN SETTINGS. THE LOG/LIN SWITCH IS FOR THE VCA. TO ADJUST THE GATE MARK TURN THE VCA KNOB UNTIL YOU HERE NO MORE SOUND COMING FROM THE VCA OUTPUT JACK. IT IS NOW READY TO BE CONTROLLED VIA THE VCA CV INPUTS. YOU CAN CONTROLL IT WITH AN ADSR/AR ENVELOPE GENERATOR OR LFO TRADITIONALLY. BUT YOU ARE FREE TO USE ALL KINDS OF SIGNALS TO CONTROL IT.

HOW THE SWITCHES FOR THE FILTER CORE WORK:

-THE TWO “REZ HACK” SWITCHES EITHER LOWER OR HIGHER THE REZ NOTCH. SO ONE WILL MAKE IT LESS HARSH AND SOFTEN THE REZ SOUND. THE OTHER SWITCH WILL MAKE IT HARSHER AND YOU WILL HERE THE DIFFERENCE. WHEN BOTH ARE ACTIVATED IT DOES NOT FULLY CANCEL OUT BUT PUTS THE NOTCH IN AN INTERESTING STATE. THE CUTOFF KNOB WILL ACT “BLOTTED” WHEN THE CUTOFF IS IN LOWER FREQUENCIES WHEN BOTH SWITCHES ARE ACTIVATED.

-THE BURBLE SWITCH: THIS WILL GIVE THE VCF A BLEED THROUGH STATE. IT WILL LET SOME OF THE HIGH FREQUENCIES THROUGH BUT WILL ALSO EFFECT THE REZ. WHEN ACTIVATE THE CUTOFF RANGE WILL ACT LIKE AN LFO. THIS IS THE SWITCH THAT MAKE THE STRANGEST BEHAVIOR."

Hohner String Performer

via this auction
"Extremely rare vintage keyboard, made in the early 80s! This is the keyboard Moby used for his string sounds on almost all of his albums. It will give you that huge fat sustained string sound, like at the beginning of The Killers' "Read My Mind", or a composition by Vangelis.

Sounds include Piano, Bass, Clavichord, Cello, Viola, Violin, Brass, String, Clarinet, Planet, and Octave setting. The Piano, Bass, Clavichord, Cello, Viola, and Violin have individual level faders for upper and lower registers, as well as a sustain fader. The Brass, String, Clarinet, and Planet sounds have a solo volume fader."

Anyone confirm the first paragraph?

BugBrand CTL1 - Touch Panel v2

YouTube via BugBrand. audio comes in at :31
"Here's an overview of the newly updated CTL1 Touch Panel - one of the most unique and fun parts of the BugBrand Modular system.

The initial idea came from an article published in Synapse Magazine in the 70s, but that is now a distant relative of this module. The 1st version was fun - with two 'Preset' rows, 'Pressure' CV outputs etc - but before production I wanted to update things a bit. The little update turned into a full rebuild!

It is now based on a kind of Sequencing core (uses the 4516 chip - tech geeks) - the Touch & Preset part still behaves the same (though has different circuitry) but this now has the great addition of four step sequencing - play it forwards or backwards, at seq. rates or at audio rates. This thing is versatile and FUN.

For further information check the BugBrand Modular site (www.bugbrand.co.uk/modular) and the BugBrand Blog (www.bugbrand.blogspot.com)."
