MOLECULE DANCE (The Strange World Of Bernard Fevre, 1975)

"Molecule Dance by Bernard Fevre from the library album THE STRANGE WORLD OF BERNARD FEVRE (L'Illustration Musicale, 1975).

Scenes taken from the german/british sci-fi series STAR MAIDENS (Die Mädchen aus dem Weltraum) from 1976.

Plot (from Wikipedia):
Star Maidens is a television series made by Portman Productions for the ITV Network in 1976.
Filmed at Bray Studios and on location in Windsor, Bracknell and Black Park, the series was part financed by a German company (Werbung im Rundfunk) and was the brainchild of Charles Pym.

The series offered a battle of the sexes/role reversal scenario in which two male domestics escape from the female-ruled planet Medusa, land on Earth and are pursued by the Medusan security forces. When the Medusans fails to recapture the two men, they take two Earth hostages - a man and a woman - back with them to their home planet. The thirteen episodes of the series deal with the two groups trying to adapt to life on the different planets whilst brokering an exchange for the hostages.

Regarded as something of a camp novelty, Star Maidens tuned in to the sexual equality revolution of the time, and features some Femdom elements.

The series starred JUDY GEESON, LISA HARROW, CHRISTIANE KRÜGER, PIERRE BRICE, CHRISTIAN QUADFLIEG and GARETH THOMAS."

Clockwork by The Richard Termini Project 'phase one' circa 1976

YouTube via rtermini
"Termini wrote Clockwork during 1975 and 1976. In 1976 termini got a couple a two three friends together and they recorded it at a proper 2 inch 16 track recording studio in the big city. Daniel Paolillo did a masterful job on Bass, playing a huge custom built Bass and Guitar Double Neck. Marty Steinberg, pal since Junior High was the perfect Drummer. Termini plays Mellotron, Hammond B3, Minimoog and Acoustic piano on this work. Vicki Zollo appears on voice just at the end of this truncated version.
At the time of this recording Termini was 20, Marty and Dan and Vicki all were 19 years old.
Audio was captured by sound engineer William Wittman, AKA Weedy Wet. All the folks involved can be seen in this video. Can you spot them all? Cheers RT

The Abominatron - 1st Bob Moog Prototype Modular

"In this blog post, Seva explores a tape that was donated to us by pioneering synthesist Herb Deutsch, who collaborated with Bob on the first prototype modular. In this 84 minute tape, Bob methodically explains the functions of the modular. We are excited to include five snippets of that tape here. Many thanks to Herb Deutsch for this historical treasure."

Roland JX-10 SysEx Edit by Colin Fraser

"Like many JX10 owners without a PG800 programmer I was disappointed to find that Roland had made a complete arse of the midi implementation - there is no way to edit sounds via midi. So I got hold of the service manual and the datasheet for the 6303 processor used in the assigner board, and set about dis-assembling the firmware, in the hope of finding the 'bug' that stopped SysEx sound edits working." And he did. Full details here.

A New World in Sequencers

Well, sort of... Dustin spotted this Wired article on virtual musicians.
"The concept goes well beyond basing the avatars in guitar-based videogames on famous performers, although the idea is similar. Using complex software, North Carolina’s Zenph Sound Innovations models the musical performances of musicians from Thelonius Monk to Rachmaninoff, based on how they played in occasionally old, scratchy recordings. Using that model, the company creates new recordings as they would be played by deceased musicians, if they were around to record with today’s equipment, to critical acclaim. And that’s just for starters.

Roland System 100 - Synthesizer 101

via this auction
"The Synthesizer 101 section is a fully self-contained analog mono-synth. It features a 37-note keyboard (with no performance controls, velocity or aftertouch), and lots of sliders to tweak. Its design is similar to the SH-series analog synths. Controls for the VCO, LFO, VCF lowpass/highpass filters, VCA with ADSR, Noise, and Portamento/Glide effects are all within hands reach.

Each component of the System 100 was relatively self-sufficient with its own power supply and housing. Roland's idea was that someone would start out with the Synthesizer 101 and add on to it piece by piece."

Eigenharp Alpha meets Kyma

Eigenharp Alpha meets Kyma from bar|none on Vimeo.

"Ever since I saw the Alpha I wanted these two to meet but technical limitations in both eigenD and Kyma made it not ideal and there was more latency than I wanted. The latest version of eigenD and the latest Kyma support virtualized midi drivers and Kyma now sends Midi over OSC via an ethernet connection.

This is a test of how responsive it is. I would say it's a resounding success! This is going to be too much fun.

And it's extremely easy to setup as well. Turn them both on and go.

This was recorded with the built in camera mic. The actual sound coming from Kyma is so realistic."

Roland SP-808ex Synthesizer Engine Overview & Demo

YouTube via stealthgear
"This is an overview of the SP-808ex synth fx engine where I play a few patches and talk about the synthesizer editing capabilities. I think the synth engine itself sounds very good and can add a special touch to your mix even when its only monosynth. When you are using the synth engine, make sure you have your midi controller set to ch. 11 and that effects are turned on. If the patch uses the d-beam, then turn on the appropriate button near the d-beam. Press FX INFO or Shift-FX Info to get into the editing features, and use the appropriate knobs for live tweaking.

The SP-808ex has something for everybody. Check out my tutorial on using its vocoder."

"Extremly rare BUCHLA electric music box series 500 modules. ....only 3 exemplars ever made in the world!!! The cv interface module need of PSU and maybe the computer facilities directed to the series 500 computer system... I'm convinced that the joysticks and trigger, control voltages module can drive other modular systems with a right psu of course, they have a Cinch Jones plug for Power Supply and a pair of facilities connectors in the rear part. I don't know the right voltage that they need, I haven't any schematics.. I bought them for collection but ..I think they need of a new home with other Buchla brothers ;-) Amazing: the two devices!"

ROLAND VP-330 vocoder plus MK1

via this auction

"ROLAND VP-330 vocoder plus MK1 from '70 years, EXTREMLY rare and in MINT conditions with a cool MIDI Kenton modification inside... the MIDI upgrade was very expensive: 470 gpb plus + professional installation service costs. Working status is perfect!

The VP-330 found favor with many key players and is especially prominent in Laurie Anderson’s “O Superman (For Massenet)” on Big Science... also was used by William Ørbit, BT, Styx, Kitaro, Underworld, Meat Beat Manifesto, Überzone, Air, Royksopp, Vangelis, Tangerine Dream, and many more. The VP-330 has a choir and string systesizer sections which can be mixed with the vocoder! You can mix any line signal also with an external input or.. you can play it also as a classic string machine. The vocoder shapes its envelope and filters by any sound source fed into it, your voice or even a drum loop can be used which is then applied to another sound source, typically a synth pad. This creates a very unique and famous robot-like sound, I think THE BEST VOCODER-STRING-HUMAN VOICE EVER!!

Polyphony: 49 voices Oscillators: 3 (string machine mixing), Filter: 18 VCFs: 54db/oct bandpass; 1 VCF: 54db/oct lowpass and highpass filters; 20 VCFs: 18db/oct lowpass filters; VCA: separate Mix Levels for Vocoder, String and Voice section and 20 envelope followers; LFO: Vibrato depth, delay and rate Effects: ensemble (chorus)"

GotharMusic Launches the MIDI Note Randomizer

"Gotharman’s note randomizer are a MIDI effect, that treats incoming MIDI note on and off's. When it receives note data, it takes a look at the adjustable probability parameter, and the velocity value, if Velo to Prob is other than zero, and randomly decides if it will play that note or not. If it decides to play the note, it will have a look at the adjustable random velocity parameter, and if this is higher than zero, it will randomize the note velocity value with the adjusted amount. This effect is very useful for creating variations in otherwise repeating patterns."
