Vintage EML200 Blue Synth

via this auction
"This is a very rare collectible synth. Quite unusual and should reside in a museum or vintage synth collection. Only a few hundred EML200's were made. This unit requires a tube (easily accessed in the rear), and is sold as is. This EML200 synthesizer is vintage. It's a hybrid cross: a synth with cable patches (not included) much like an ARP 2600 or Moog, and a piece of test equipment . The sound possibilities are truly amazing. The tone of this EML200 is very different from that of any other synth made. Vintage 1970s. Even has a built-in spring reverb. More valuable than the silver model. It's a great stand alone unit- or patch your other equipment through it. It looks cool just sitting there! Mic preamp for external sounds. Patch them through the high pass and low pass filters, 3 oscillators, ring modulators. Here's a detailed list:

via this auction

SN 0500641

"E-Mu Emax II 16-Bit Digital Sound System. This model is 2201...

The operating system is 2.14. Included with the keyboard are an OS 2.14 boot disk, the original power cable, the original manual, two MIDI cables, two 1/4" audio cables, and a padded gig bag. The serial number is 0500641.

The E-Mu Emax II is a 1MB mono 16-bit sampler. Its maximum sample rate is 39kHz but it can play back samples created at 44.1kHz. The filter is 24dB/oct and, while digital, sounds as good as analog. It is also controllable in real-time, which at the time was a major breakthrough. The Emax II also has very robust SCSI implementation that makes it compatible with many external drives (Syquest removable media, MO drives, CD drives, and hard drives with a maximum partition of 540MB). It can send and receive clock signals. When slaved, it accepts 24, 48, or 96 ppq with pulses at least 1ms wide and 1 to 5 volts. When sending clock, it sends 24 ppq at 5 volts and 6ms wide.

The sample time on the Emax II with 1MB is 26.1 seconds (20.000kHz), 23.7 seconds (22.050kHz), 18.9 seconds (27.778kHz), 16.8 seconds (31.250kHz), & 13.4 seconds (39.0625kHz).

There are also some undocumented, hidden features on this keyboard, available by selecting the master module. Select it and then choose option 9. Then choose 9 again even though only 1-8 are offered as selections. When prompted for a password, enter 3629 (EMAX on the touchpad). Here are the undocumented functions. Experiment freely!

Features:
5 Octave velocity sensitive keyboard
14 Velocity curves
Velocity control over Volume, Amplitude Attack, Filter Cutoff, Filter Q, and Filter Attack
3.5" Floppy disk drive (double sided, double density disks)
Internal and external SCSI connection (internal HD power supply)
32 Character Backlit LCD
RS-422 Computer Interface port
MIDI In
MIDI Out/Thru
Programmable Arpeggiator
16 Track Sequencer
1/4" Clock In
1/4" Clock Out
2 Programmable wheels (real-time pitch, cutoff, attack, level, and LFO modulation control)
2 1/4" Footswitch Ins
1 1/4" Foot pedal In

Future Retro Revolution Mk1 with Decay Mode Toggle Switch

via this auction
" Future Retro analog synthesizer with a powerful liquid acid 303 sound and interface. studio use only. excellent condition. comes with power adaptor & original manual
note: an inclusion of a hidden toggle switch to access the two decay modes (tb303 and revolution mode see pic)

white one with wood ends, great unit for acid sounds like a tb303 but with very powerful sequencer that allows remixing of your patterns and puts out CV & GATE and DINSYNC 24 to allow control older synthesizers and keep your drum machines in sync.
also has stereo outputs to allow wet dry mixing between the voltage control oscillator and dual effects.

note for this unit, it's clean and works great but i have added a hidden toggle switch to allow selection between tb303 decay mode and revolution decay mode. its basically a sustain switch for longer notes that either trail off or hold till the next note is triggered. it's not really a modification just access to an internal selectable jumper. its a quality alps switch."

"Chance" by TSF

YouTube via TheSynthFreq — April 23, 2010 — "Hi. This a new song written 4-24-10. This is just an idea for the moment, this had been in my mind, bugging me all day. I wrote a new drum pattern for the EMX-1 and wrote the song around it. I attempted to play a realistic bass line, live which was fun. The rest of the song has the bass programmed from the EMX-1 into the DX-9. The patch used was #10. The Alpha Juno-1 patch is the same used in "1983" [posted here], I find it fits well in the song. Synths used: D-50, Alpha Juno-1, DX-9, CZ-5000, EMX-1.
Please enjoy! :)"

This morning I visited the Nodal website and looked at the 2 videos there. I thought it looked interesting so I downloaded a demo which was still version 1.6. This evening I have tried it and bought the license for some less than 30 euro's because I wanted to be able to save. Here you can see the first results. My attempt is very basic though. There are three sequences. The first driving the Creamware MiniMax ASB, the 2nd the Clavia Nord Lead 1 and the 3rd the Waldorf Q Keyboard. Try Nodal yourself, it's fun (and cheap):

Moog Style Bass On A Soviet Lady - АЛИСА 1377 - Analog Synthesizer

YouTube via Funkonami1 — April 23, 2010 — "This electronic musical synthesizer intends for signal's design of audible range of band with a possibility to play solo musical compositions. It can be used to create audio effects if connected to the outward acoustic device.

The synthesizer can be used as a non-standart electric signal's source for scientific and educational needs.

The synthesizer consists of the following main blocks: control unit, tone generator, vibrato generator, filter, contour and output.

TONE OSCILLATOR - waveform, frequency modulation, modulation amount, impulse width modulation, harmonics, portamento, tuning, octave +1/+2. VIBRATO OSCILLATOR - waveform ("N"), frequency, 1Hz/10Hz, ON (modulation). FILTER - adjustment (cutoff), resonance, vibrato, contour on (contourosc) - attack, release, sustain, decay OUTPUT - level, on.

Intellijel Designs: Mind Meld and uStep

flickr by Analogue Haven

"Intellijel Designs is a new Eurorack manufacturer from Canada. The first module they made was the Mind Meld which is an expander for the Livewire Vulcan Modulator. It brings the PCB-mounted jumpers from the back to the front panel and it also adds a highly useful reset function. We have a batch of these coming next week along with the new uStep 4 HP Gate Sequencer. Both look like very useable modules and at good prices (approximately $160 for the Mind Meld and $195 for the uStep). We will update our website once they arrive. Blacet StonZ2440 Phase Shifter Ceasing Production

via the Blacet newsletter:

"Our StonZ VC Phase Shifter sold 100's of units for years but last year we sold 2!

This is a great sounding analog unit and I hate to cease production but numbers do not lie and if no one buys something, it makes no business sense to keep it in stock.

We currently have one kit and one assembled unit in stock.

I would consider making another run but I would need to see at least 25 prepaid orders in the next 30 days to consider this. Otherwise, it's gone; at least for the immediate future.
