Chainsaw Symphony - Acid Rain Chainsaw meets InstruĊ Harmonaig

Published on Dec 12, 2019 Precarious333 Music

"Wow, a match made in heaven. Never thought I'd get such beautiful harmonies so easily on modular. Just received Acid Rain Technology Chainsaw today. This is the first patch. Chainsaw is an amazingly powerful 4hp module capable of producing 3 voices of 7 detuned waves. I'm already in love with this thing. Coupled with Harmonaig, which produces chords, and I'm in heaven.

Recorded as a stereo track into Ableton. EQ to tame the lows and a little compression.

Signal path is three pitch CVs from Harmonaig into Chainsaw. Chainsaw stereo out into two VCAs of Erogenous Tones VC8 controlled by envelopes from Erogenous Tones RADAR, stereo signal into Qu-Bit Electronix Prism (as a stereo filter with no resonance) opened by another RADAR ENV, into Endorphin.es Milky Way's creamy big reverb. Very simple patch."

Chainsaw VCOs through Moon Phase Filter

Precarious333 Music

"Just a little test of Acid Rain Chainsaw stereo supersaw VCOs used with Patching Panda Moon Phase. Both are stereo so seems a good fit. All 3 voices of Chainsaw are being sequenced separately by 3 channels of Industrial Music Electronics Stillson Hammer mkII with the 4th sequencing Erica Synths Pico Voice in acid bassline mode through G-Storm Electro 101-VCF and into 2hp Delay. It's a pretty rich sound for so few modules. It helps that Moon Phase allows for enhancement of the stereo field, and I begin to apply detune to Chainsaw's VCOs at the 01:20 mark. Recorded into Ableton as 1 stereo and 1 mono track. Reverb, compression, and EQ added in post."

TB-303 redux: GeoSync TB Super-O vs. Acid Rain Chainsaw

video upload by John Schussler

Update: video re-uploaded.

"I got ahold of a couple modules from GeoSync recently, the TB Super-O triple VCO and the TB-EFA filter/VCA. I also have an Acid Rain Chainsaw, and it occurred to me to wonder how the Chainsaw would do as a 303 source for the TB-EFA. How different might they be?

Of course they're different, but y'know, how exactly?

As with so many of my videos, this is just me trying to answer a random question of comparison between two modules.

Sequence from Stochastic IG. Envelope from Zadar.

Modular Christmas Carols [Steve's MS-22, Twin Waves MkII, Chainsaw, Quadigy, Ensemble Oscillator...]

video upload by Threetom Modular

"PATCH NOTES BELOW! :)

SEASON GREETING TO EVERYONE IN THE MODULAR COMMUNITY FROM THREETOM MODULAR! I HOPE YOU HAVE THE MOST EXCELLENT HOLIDAYS AND I WISH YOU THE BEST FOR THE NEW YEAR! :D

* Voice 1 (Bass): A mix of a triangle wave and a square sub coming from Klavis Twin Waves MkII into Steve's MS-22. Low pass cutoff is modulated by the Klavis Quadigy envelope generator.

* Voice 2 (Lead): A supersaw coming from Klavis Twin Waves MkII going into Steve's MS-22. Low pass cutoff frequency is modulated by the TipTop Z8000 sequencer, asynchronously clocked by the Doepfer A-145-4 quad LFO.

* Voice 3 (Pad): Acidrain Chainsaw into a stereo pair of Steve's MS-22 filters. The Chainsaw's waveshape is slowly modulated by the Doepfer A-145-4 quad LFO.

* Voice 4 (Bells/counterpoint): 4MS Ensemble Oscillator, manually tweaked throughout the sequence.

All voices go through the ZlobVnicursal VCA, into the Befaco Hexmix and Hexpander combo. The Hexpander sends an effects mix into the Happy Nerding FXaid for reverb (which is then mixed back in through the Hexpanders effect return).

This performance was sequenced by Ableton Live and the Endorphin.es Shuttle control (outside of the shot), based on the midi file 'A Christmas Carol Suite' by Richard Ian (you can find it here: http://midkar.com/holidays/christmas/... )"

Acid Rain Technology Chainsaw Polyphonic Oscillator

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Chainsaw is a powerful digital oscillator designed to bring polyphony to your rack in a compact and playable interface. We were inspired by the super-saw; a mainstay of electronic music production, and a waveform rich with harmonics for filters and effects to chew on. Chainsaw features 3 voices of 7 waves, with individual pitch control per voice. All waves morph from super saw to super square for giant hollow basslines and more."

Acid Rain Technology Chainsaw // A stereo 21 oscillator swarm in 4HP (Eurorack demo)

Published on Dec 3, 2019 DivKidVideo

"Here we have the 4HP wide 21 oscillator stereo oscillator - Chainsaw from Acid Rain Technology. This is 3 voices of 7 oscillators each that are spread across the stereo image with controls for detune and blending between saw and square waves. Huge super saws and super squares are easy to fine tune and tuning is simple with an elegant encoder for coarse semitone tuning and then a button press for fine tune. It's a simple to use module that just pushed my enjoyment of making music and patches so there's lots of examples in the video. As always skip around with the timing index and sections listed below.

Eurorack Techniques: Chords with Modular

Patchwerks Seattle

"In this video resident expert Matthew Piecora (aka EZBOT) shares with us a few techniques for making and controlling chords in a eurorack system. Chords in eurorack can be complex and difficult to control, luckily there is stepped voltage and quantizers to help reign in control over our chordal melodies. This video features WMD Metron, WMD Arpitecht, WMD Triad, WMD Voltera, Mutable Instruments Plaits, Acid Rain Technologies Chainsaw, WMD C4RBN, WMD Performance Mixer, and the Blue Lantern Simple ADSR.

Eurorack jam featuring Metropolix, Manis Iteritas, Prok Drums, Zen Delay, and electric guitar

video upload by

"A live, semi-improvised modular performance performed entirely on hardware, with one guitar overdub.

This jam started with a simple exploration of the Intellijel Metropolix, a neat sequencer that helps you stumble into inspiration, along with two voices (the Noise Engineering Manis Iteritas and the Acid Rain Chainsaw). My ambitions were no more than "play guitar with eurorack". But as the song found itself, and more and more was added to the table, it became clear I'd have to add guitar after the the fact.

A big highlight here is the Prok Drum modules being sequenced by the Mutable Instruments Grids. Not only is Grids fast and inspiring, but its modulation allows you to add performability (like the snare rolls I add via a touch pad here) and variety (through its chaos and frequency controls). Special thanks to Michael, a good human and also a member of my Patreon community, for allowing me to commission him to build the Prok modules! You're the best, Michael.

And of course, the Erica Synths Zen Delay works its magic again. Here, it runs everywhere from flanger to filter to gonzo delay, and I just love what it adds to a jam.

The patches would take a very long time to explain, but here are the modules:

Voices:
- Noise Engineering Manis Iteritas
- Squarp Rample
- Acid Rain Chainsaw
- Qu-Bit Chord
- Frequency Central Product
- Prok drum modules

Jamuary 2023 Mars Machine

video uploads by Mars Machine

First 10:
1. Fireflies | Modular Eurorack Beat | Erica Synths LXR, Basimilus Iteritas Alter #Jamuary2023 01
First Video this Year! I started this Patch trying to use my new Erica Synths LXR Eurorack Module for a melodic voice which I think turned out pretty nice. Bloom and Pamelas New Workout are responsible for the sequencing. Main Melody 1: LXR receiving v/oct from Bloom, sent through Mimeophon. Main Melody 2: 2hp Pluck sequenced by Bloom, mixed with Noise and filtered by Forbidden Planet through Disting Delay. Bass is Plaits, distorted and filtered by Peradam and XAOC Zagrzeb. Kick: Basimilus Iteritas Alter Drums: Erica Synths LXR
2. Karmesin | Modular Eurorack Beat || #jamuary2023 02 ||| Queen of Pentacles, Acid Rain Chainsaw
Drums: Queen of Pentacles & some additional Hi-hats made with white and pink noise Main Melody: Acid Rain Chainsaw Bass: Basimilus Iteritas Alter Background Texture is Plaits with the model Input modulated.
3. SHORES | UK GARAGE on MODULAR || #jamuary2023 03
I've been wanting to make some kind of UK garage, burial inspired piece on the modular. I think it turned out pretty neat!
4. EMBERS | Drum and Bass on MODULAR || #jamuary2023 04
Here we go again, 4th day of #jamuary2023! I try to keep it as musically diverse as possible, so I tried to make some Drum and Bass this time. I think it's quite alright for the first try!
5. Below 0 | #jamuary2023 05 || Eurorack ||| Patch Notes on Screen
It's been a long time since I wanted to use the Forbidden Planet as an Oscillator and I never found the place in a patch since it is always almost on regular filter duties. But I managed this time and it sounds very cool!
6. Erica Synths LXR Eurorack Live Techno Jam | #jamuary2023 07
#jamuary2023 lets go! Part 6! I filmed this video when I just got the Erica Synths LXR, wanting to showcase some of its sounds! I think it sounds absolutely massive!
7. Leaving | Eurorack Drum and Bass || #jamuary2023 07
More Drum and Bass! I'm really happy with the drums in this. I stumbled across the melody by accident just fiddling with Bloom.
8. Happy Accidents | Chill Eurorack Beat | #jamuary2023 08 | Patch Notes
This was a happy accident by slowing down one of my other #jamuary patches. I then changed the drums and the main melody so it fit the tempo better.

PV44 playing chords on the Acid Rain Technology Chainsaw (patched sequencer out of logic modules)

video upload by XODES

"After discussing how to use PV44 to create chords lately, it felt like showing it actually can be done may be more efficient than long messages.

It all started with some cheesy Wham Christmas song programmed on a Beatstep Pro for which PV44 made chords out of a monophonic CV signal.

Instead, and even if it may not make much sense to most, it looked more interesting to demonstrate a sequencer patched from scratch on the same occasion!

In this short example a sequencer is patched from existing and forthcoming logic/switch based modules that create control signals for PV44 and triggers for the drums sounds.

A single clock passes through a shift register and trigger skippers to create multiple trigger sequences.

A switch alternates between 2 voltages and goes to the PV44 modulation input. The A/B/C outputs control the Acid Rain Technology chainsaw's 3 CV inputs through some quantizer to play different chords."

Polyphony in Eurorack with The Patch Pals

video by Perfect Circuit

"If you’ve ever thought about exploring polyphony in Eurorack, chances are you might have felt some level of intimidation in terms of which method of generating 'chords' and 'harmony' works best. But in reality, there’s no one right way to go about it, and in this video our Patch Pals Wes and Jacob share a few of their favorite ways to make polyphonic patches without too much fuss.

A modular synthesizer’s open-ended patching workflow encourages new ways to think about creating sounds, and polyphony is no different. From Supercritical Synthesizers’ MIDI-controllable Demon Core oscillator to a chord or multi-note oscillator such as the 4ms Ensemble Oscillator, or even making use of loopers or other effects to approximate polyphony, there’s no shortage of creative ideas waiting to be explored.

Three Versio Delays - Melotus, Yester, Imitor

video upload by John Schussler

"The Yester Versio arrived the other day, so I wanted to compare it to the other Noise Engineering delay lines I have handy: Melotus Versio (which is actually a granular sampler, but is easily used as a delay), and Imitor Versio, which is a delay with an unusual dose of attitude.

Synth Sounds of the Narwhal

Some LFO action there.

"With the help of Inuit hunters, geophysicists recently recorded the various calls, buzzes, clicks and whistles of narwhals as they summered in a Greenland fjord. The recordings help scientists better understand the soundscape of Arctic glacial fjords and provide valuable insight into the behavior of these shy and mysterious creatures, according to the researchers.

This animation illustrates how narwhal vocalizations match their behavior. The researchers captured several types of sounds made by narwhals, including social calls, or whistles, and clicks used for echolocation, the biological sonar used by dolphins, bats, some whales and other animals to navigate and find food.

The closer narwhals get to their food, the faster they click, until the noise becomes a buzz not unlike that of a chainsaw. This terminal buzz helps the narwhals pinpoint the location of their prey.

The recordings help the researchers provide a baseline of the kinds of sounds that permeate the narwhals’ pristine habitat. In combination with sightings, they also show narwhals get closer to glacier ice than previously thought for this area and the animals do forage for food in summer, contrary to some previous findings."

Jroo Loop - Pitch shifting tape looper

video uploads by jroo

video upload by John Schussler

"Here's a fairly simple tape loop module from Jroo called Loop. When you
change the speed of the loop it actually pitch shifts, which makes for some
really interesting opportunities for new harmonies.

This whole video is the same very simple sequence from a Pittsburgh Micro
Sequence b driving an Acid Rain Chainsaw VCO. On top is a bucketload
of reverb from Valhalla to let things ring out into space.

Fun.

00:00 Intro
00:20 Clean
11:53 Distorted"

loop is a frippertronics-style dual mono digital tape loop, echo and delay utility with adjustable tape speed, play head position, feedback and levels. It has a customizable loop length of up to 2.5 minutes.

loop is modelled after tape loop systems where audio is recorded to and played back from a tape that’s continually looping. Several interesting effects can be accomplished in this system when the position of the play head, tape speed, direction, and audio and feedback levels are modified. loop gives you manual and CV control over each.
