"iConnectivity's PlayAUDIO1U is designed to support live performances at the professional level. It is a deeply-thought-out, bulletproof, fail-proof, and made-to-tour interface that provides pristine audio output as well as comprehensive MIDI connectivity to your whole stage. It’s perfect for control and playback of backing tracks, virtual instruments, or almost anything else you can think of that requires computers in a live environment."

Press Release follows:

Calgary, Alberta, September 12, 2023 – iConnectivity announced PlayAUDIO1U, a revolutionary audio and MIDI interface designed specifically for live musicians. PlayAUDIO1U builds on iConnectivity’s reputation for developing bullet-proof, fail-proof solutions for live music performance. Much like its direct predecessor PlayAUDIO12, PlayAUDIO1U integrates numerous redundancy fail-safes for control and playback of backing tracks, virtual instruments, and MIDI devices.

Imagine never having to worry about your computer playback failing, ever again. Imagine an interface where not just the big things, but even all of the little things that are important to your performance were thought of… Things like seamless failover protection of audio and MIDI, XLR outs you can just plug into without direct boxes, control ports that allow you to control all of your connected computers and other hardware, onboard power that works in any part of the world with standard IEC connection, and it all fits in a tiny 1U rack! Befaco VCMC/CV Thing Firmware 1.3

“Befaco VCMC - Tangerine Dream” by Friendly Noise video by Friendly Noise

"From Befaco labs we are happy to announce a new major update on VCMC and CV thing family: The new 1.3 version.

The main change here is a super flexible Chord generation feature. Allowing to quantize the notes and generate the relevant chords in many different scales.

Chord generation allow, not only selecting the scale, but also the type of chord, inversion and voicings as well as root note. All these functions controllable via CV or other Faders in the module!

We are proud to say that the mode is working like a charm: so generating polyphonic melodies in your MIDI gear from our eurorack is easier today than ever! Check this video for a nicve example.

Apart of this main feature, we also implemented Channel pressure messages, improved compatibility with iConnectivity devices and solved a few little quirks and bugs.

Firmware is available at Befaco github: https://github.com/Befaco/VCMC

And we have uploaded a video to help everyone upgrade and callibrate the module."

iConnectivity Introduces mioXC - Worlds First USB C MIDI Interface

via iConnectivity

"We're proud to bring you our latest MIDI interface, the mioXC. mioXC is the world's first USB Type-C MIDI interface.

We designed mioXC around the latest connectivity standards demanded by modern musicians; all in a pocket-sized, super affordable package.

A Pocket Powerhouse
Tiny in size and price, yet big on connectivity, mioXC is a pocket-sized powerhouse!

mioXC is a fuss-free and simple 1 in 1 out, 16 channel USB-MIDI interface you can use to connect your MIDI compatible gear.

Whether you have a controller keyboard, synthesizer, drum machine or whatever; mioXC lets you connect them to your Mac, PC, iOS, or Android computing device.

What Makes mioXC Unique?

Even the most basic tasks need to be done right; it’s surprising how many of our competitors interfaces get it wrong. We engineered mioXC, from the ground up to, to be the interface we’d want to use ourselves.

Modern USB Connectivity - Equipped with both USB Type-C and USB Type-A connectivity, mioXC lets you enjoy easy connectivity with most modern computing devices.

Driver Compatibility - Interfaces that use their own drivers have to be updated all the time, or they stop working properly. Likewise some designs were USB Class-Compliant years ago, but today they aren't anymore. We engineer our drivers to today's strict guidelines, and keep them updated, to ensure compatibility for years to come.

MIDI Management - Our interfaces deliver MIDI reliably no matter what. When the MIDI data-stream gets heavy, our interfaces plough on where other interfaces choke.

Rock-Solid Electrical Design - Some MIDI interfaces introduce noise, or worse, crash your system. You’ll never get that from an iConnectivity interface.

Performance Optimized - A MIDI interface that works too slowly is useless. mioXC uses a powerful 32-bit ARM Cortex processor, ensuring dense MIDI and SysEx streams are managed with ease.

The iConnectivity Advantage: iConnectivity’s name on your interface means we took the time to do it right, whether it's our simple 1 x 1 models to our uniquely sophisticated high-end interfaces."

New mioX and mioXM MIDI Interfaces from iConnectivity

via iConnectivity

"Today's a big day for us; it's the day we launch what we humbly believe are our best MIDI interfaces to date, the mioX series.

mioXL and mioXM offer super-charged network connectivity. Now you can use the power of the network to connect piles of computers (Mac, PC, and mobile devices). Additionally, there's more USB ports for peripherals and onboard presets.

If you are in need of MIDI connectivity, these interfaces are incomparable.

mioXL is our all-new flagship MIDI interface.

Taking the form of a 1U rackmount unit, mioXL features vast DIN-MIDI, USB-MIDI, and RTP/Network-MIDI connectivity. mioXL is an ideal choice for studio installations or MIDI intensive live rigs requiring huge amounts of connectivity.

What you'll notice straight away about the mioXL is its new, high-resolution OLED display and encoder, alongside obscene amounts of physical connectivity. 8-in 12-out DIN-MIDI ports, 10xUSB-MIDI ports and also 22 virtual RTP/Network-MIDI ports.

Brand new to the mioXL is also the ability to save and recall presets directly from the front panel of the interface. Perfect for DAW-less rigs or complex live setups.

It's XL by name and XL by nature; it's impossible to pack any more MIDI connectivity inside a 1U rackmount interface. Believe us, we tried!

mioXL makes you the master of your own MIDI domain

mioXM takes the fundamental architecture of the flagship mioXL and places it within a compact, half unit space enclosure.

Like its big brother, the mioXL, mioXM has unprecedented RTP/Network-MIDI connectivity. 12 virtual network ports, per mioXM, lets you assign an RTP/Network-MIDI port(s) for each of your connected peripherals and/or computing devices, and access them from virtually anywhere.

4 user-definable presets can be saved to the mioXM and recalled from the capacitive touch panel on the front of the interface. These allow you to quickly toggle between your four favourite configurations with a single tap.

Ideal for moderate-sized MIDI setups operating without a computer or any systems that require switching between multiple configurations on-the-fly.
mioXM is an ideal choice for compact, portable MIDI applications, or multiple placements throughout a studio, stage, or venue."

Ambient jam: Volca Bass + Ventris + Keystep + nanoKONTROL2 (2018-10-14)

Published on Oct 15, 2018 Slenterende Beer

"I've bought the Source Audio Ventris, an effects pedal that features two reverb / delay engines that can be combined, either in parallel or serial mode. This gear experiment is a deep dive into the features of the Ventris, in combination with the Volca Bass. Headphones recommended!

The basics of this setup are pretty simple: I program some slow arpeggios on the Keystep, which is played by the Volca Bass. The Bass has a slow and intense LFO on the cut-off, which produces the volume swells. The output of the Bass is then sent to the Ventris, and that's where the interesting stuff starts.

The Ventris has two effect engines running in serial mode. The first effect is called "offspring" and that's the cascading, modulated delay at the start of the video. This sound is then fed into the "shimmer" effect, which I introduce by increasing the "control 1" and "time" knob. The "time" knob also increases the delay feedback of the 'offspring' effect.

Each reverb / delay engine on the Ventris has its own set of parameters, but only part of them can be controlled from the pedal's interface. It becomes more restricted when using both reverb engines at the same time, because two of the knobs are then dedicated to controlling the dry/wet mix of the two engines. Live control of the other parameters, and for both engines at the same time, can be done using MIDI CC messages. I've configured the nanoKONTROL so that the first 4 sliders and knobs control parameters of effect A, and the second 4 control parameters of effect B. For example, the fifth knob controls the amount of shimmer of effect B, which is a parameter I tweak quite a lot in this video.

One hardware problem I had to solve: the nanoKONTROL only has a USB MIDI connector, but the Ventris requires a 5-pin MIDI plug. I don't currently own a hardware USB MIDI host (I'm considering the Retrokits RK-005), so I used my MacBook to achieve the MIDI routing. The nanoKONTROL is connected to my laptop, and so is the iConnectivity mio, which is in turn connected to the Ventris. By default MacOS does not support MIDI routing from one device to another, so I used the open source "MIDIrouter" app to achieve this (see link below).

The reason I decided to try the Ventris is because I'd like to see if it can replace my GFI System Specular Reverb V2. I love the sound of my Specular, but it only really does one sound (beautiful lush ambient epicness) and misses features that I'd like (e.g. 100% wet, control over pre-delay and modulation, MIDI clock sync for delay timings). I'm happy to say I can create a sound with the Ventris that is just as lush as the Specular, but with a lot more control and whole lot more extra features due to the possibility to use two reverb engines. (You can even use the Ventris' stereo inputs to feed it two different instruments, give them each their own reverb engine, and then configure it so that it is 'summed' into stereo again!) I feel like there's a lot more to discover with this device, even more so since you can download patches other people have created using its Neuro app.

BE AWESOME and become a Patron: https://www.patreon.com/bobeats

There are obviously alternatives to this product: HobbyTronics MIDI HOST, iConnect Mio 10, Bomebox, and many many DIY solutions in the description of this video I have many more suggestions" [below]

"MuMidi HubLink provides a means for Musicians to connect USB-MIDI devices together. Typically, this might be a sound generator device (such as a synth) and a controller, such as a keyboard or similar. Its rugged yet stylish design makes it suitable for desktop, studio and stage use.

By also providing power over USB to bus-powered USB-MIDI Devices, MuMidi HubLink can remove the need for copious power connections in a MIDI setup."

DreamsOfWires - 'Setsuko' (AJH Synth Mini Mod & Roland SH-1)

Published on Mar 12, 2017 DreamsOfWires

"Recorded live, no overdubs or post-production. I've been watching a few lesser-known films of Setsuko Hara just recently, one of my favourite actresses, so I thought I'd make something very loosely inspired by her.

Initial sound is the SH-1, all subsequent sounds are from the Mini Mod.

Sequenced using Genome on an iPad, selecting patterns in real-time, into an Expert Sleepers FH-1 to control the SH-1 and 3 Mini Mod VCO's, each on independent midi channels in order to play multiple notes simultaneously.
Recorded into two channels using AUM on the iPad via an iConnectivity AUDIO4+ (which also sends MIDI to the FH-1) with Virsyn's AudioReverb as an insert effect.

The video editing isn't as good as I'd have liked, but my ancient PC makes it a laborious and sloppy task.
Please don't ask me to explain the recording in any more detail than this, thank you.

Film scenes from 'Priest of Darkness' (河内山宗俊, 1936) and 'Temptation' (誘惑, 1948)."

Exploring The Gristleizer Eurorack Module

Published on May 12, 2016 Bimini Road

http://www.endangeredaudioresearch.com/
http://www.biminiroadelectronics.com

"Here are a few clips of The Gristleizer working with some other modules. The Expert Sleepers FH-1 is acting as a bridge for my KMI QuNexus (off screen). The Disting mk3 is the oscillator, which is feeding into the L-1 Tube VCA, which itself is triggered by the gate from the FH-1 (I don't have an envelope module at the moment). The output of the VCA is then fed through the Gristleizer and sent through my Universal Audio Apollo, where a Cooper Time Cube provides the stereo delay. It is also running through the Neve 1073 Preamp plugin, the Studer A800, and the Ampex ATR-102.

0:00 - Output A of the Disting is multed using a Tiptop stackable cable to the Mod input of the Gristleizer in VCF mode. This means that the speed of the scanning Bandpass Filter within the Gristleizer is moving at the same rate as the pitch of the oscillator. Doing this, the Bias, Filter Mix, and Depth Controls all allow you to dial in amazing tones.

0:46 - This is the same setting as above, but the internal triangle wave of The Gristleizer is modulating now. I call this effect a phase ring mod. Although it does not use diodes in a ring configuration to achieve the ring mod effect, the effect of the scanning BPF creates another oscillating tone that, especially when dialed into the tonic or the dominant note of the scale you're using. In this case, I am dialing it in so that it crashes against the pitch of the Disting's oscillator, creating some truly growling tones.

1:46 - Here, I'm adjusting the drive of the VCA to create some feedback overtones in order to highlight the range that the Bias knob sweeps through. The Bias controls the center frequency that the Gristleizer sweeps through. Only with the Endangered Audio Research Gristleizer filter do you get this wide range - the original design was focused way down in the bass range which, for most instruments, was completely unusable. The redesigned filter is dirty enough to be at home within The Gristleizer, but is without a doubt much more musical. In this example, I have patched the Saw LFO output to the Mod input (breaking the normalized connection to the Triangle wave).

2:17 - This is The Gristleizer in VCA mode. Notice towards the end of this clip how much the Bias changes the tone of the input. The added Filter Mix control also doubles as a presence control in VCA mode. The Square LFO is patched into The Gristleizer's Mod input.

2:59 - Another example of the phase ring modulation effect."
