ZVex Instant Lo-fi Junky Eurorack module
Published on Sep 12, 2016 Leslie Rollins
"Demos are not my strong suit but as I got this a bit early and there is some curiosity built up around it I've tried to do my basic best. This is a simple drum loop taken from a Radio Music module. I try to make my finger movements on the knobs pretty obvious and also tried to keep my hand out of the way as best I could. This is only exploring manual knob and switch adjustments of the module. I might do one with CV manipulation from other modules if there's interest. If there's something you'd REALLY like to see feel free to let me know and I'll try to accommodate your request. I'm planning to do a similar video for the Fuzz Factory, and then probably a short one of both of them working at once to create magic.
Please recall, this is not my sweet spot. There's no real creativity in this. Yes I know the loop is boring. But I was trying to cover the basics so folks can get some sense of the pallette available. Cheers!"

Winter on the Plains
Published on Nov 17, 2016 davidryle
"Roland D50 used for the piece.
Additional support modules from the Eurorack are used for coloration and a loop drone at the end. Modules include Zvex Instant Lo Fi Junky, Mutable Instruments Clouds, The Harvestman Piston Honda, Makenoise Maths, Phonogene & Echophon, TipTop Z-DSP (Valhalla Shimmer), and Music Thing Turing Machine.
The D50 was run into a synthesizers.com Q118 Instrument Interface for gain prior to the modular and the final stereo output from the Z-DSP was sent through a dotcom Q113 Mixer.
Seven tracks recorded in Cubase, video edited in Final Cut Pro."

Everything Ends Here (Alessandro Cortini) // Eurorack, Rings, Mangrove, Bermuda, Plaits, Hermod
Published on Apr 9, 2018 Lost For Words
"I love the video of Alessandro Cortini, who wrote this track, and Don Buchla (modular father) playing this live. See link below. A simple 3 part melody loop with great feeling. I hope I did it a little justice.
In my take on the piece, played on a Keystep and recorded and sequenced by Hermod, Rings goes to ZVEX Instant LoFi Junky. Mangrove and Bermuda play the other two pieces. I use the Erica Polivoks filter and the Ripples filter to bring in distortion with a careful resonance/cutoff balance. Mangrove goes to Ripples then to Pico DSP for additional distortion and crunchiness.
Some sound effects from Plaits are bounced around in the Tapographic Delay.
Recorded to cassette. Mastered with Ozone etc. in Reaper.
Cortini and Buchla :"

Ambient generative music on a modular synth: 'Dizzy Dreams' by POB
Published on Nov 2, 2016 Patrick OBrien
"This ambient modular synthesizer patch is an attempt at creating generative music - music that is ever-different & changing, as created by a system. The patch could go on and on with very little or no repetition or interaction. As you see in this video, I powered up the case and walked away, letting it run by itself.
Generative Music revolves around the idea that music, or sounds may be "generated" by a musician selecting parameters within an ecology, such that the ecology will perpetually produce different variations based on the parameters and algorithms used.
I chose to record a long video for those who want background music, music to fall asleep to, or to find the best music to listen to while studying, or for those wanting to hear dreamy yet spooky cinematic analog sound progressions.
My original thought on this piece: imagining someone who's in a deep dream state but experiences subtle interruptions, as if they are getting knocked in and out of consciousness because they are dizzy or hungover.
Only using 2 oscillators (Make Noise's STO and Pittsburgh Modular's Oscillator) and a lot of effects, this one even surprised me! Some of the deep tones sound like brass instruments blaring, while others formed melodies that sound like French Horns.
While some reverb is coming from the Mutable Instruments Clouds, the entire mix is sent through an Eventide H9 Harmonizer Effects Processor.

Background melodies:
Synthesis Tehcnology E330 - sequenced by Stillson Hammer Mk II
Intellijel Dixie II (and multed copy of Dixie II melody recorded into Morphagene) sequenced by Make Noise Rene (Rene X input from Zularic Repetitor)
Fiters:
Three Sisters - plucked string voice and background melodies
AJH MiniMod VCF - bassline
AJH Sonic XV - lead
Effects:
Mutable Instruments Clouds x2 (looping delay mode on both)
Make Noise Erbe Verb (plucked strings sound, and background melodies)
Make Noise Echophon - background melodies
Dual Looping Delay (plucked strings)
Zvex Instant Lo-fi Junky (lead)"
Colloidal Flow
Published on Sep 3, 2017
"A reworking of the last patch I posted. This is a significantly different take, focusing on the ambient and drone with the sequenced parts blended in more.
PADS:
VCOs: E330 Multimode VCO (in Wavetable mode) into Clouds looping delay
PADS 2:
Direct outs from STO (sine) and Dixie II into clouds reverb
PLUCKY SYNTHS:
VCOs: STO and Dixie II
Sequencer: Turing Machine into uScale II, uScale A and B outs going to each VCO
Envelopes: Quadra
Envelope Triggers: Zularic Repetitor
Delay: Dual Looping Delay
16th NOTE SEQ:
VCO: Piston Honda MkII
Sequencer: Stillson Hammer Mk II
Filter: MiniMod VCF
Envelope (VCA and filter): Quadra
Variations in the bassline are from the Assignable A and B inputs on the SHMkII, they are being fed random S&H from the Ultra Random Analog, a multed copy of the S&H feeds into the shift input on the uScale, so both sets of sequences change at the same time.
KICK:
VCO: the sub bass out from STO into Pittsburgh Synth Box LPG in, triggered by output 4 from Zularic Repetitor"
