Schubert SERENADE For Theremin & Continuum
YouTube Uploaded by copperleaves on Jul 9, 2011
"Some of my online theremin friends didn't want me to record this theremin transcription of Franz Schubert's SERENADE. They said it was too schlocky and romantic and that I shouldn't waste my time on it! Nevertheless, it remains one of the most popular and recognizable melodies from one of my favorite composers. This arrangement is for theremin and Haken continuum (accompanied by the Korg TRITON EXTREME). The continuum is playing the delicate recorder/flageolet sound that follows the theremin. Although I think my brain could have played all three instruments at once, I just don't have enough arms and hands, so I prepared the track and played the theremin live.
In the summertime, I often use my barn for music. The barn was built in the 1860's during the American civil war and no nails were used in its construction. It is made entirely of hardwoods and held together with expertly fitted joints and wooden spikes. When you play music in it, the whole building vibrates like the soundbox of a giant bass or cello. Unfortunately it isn't very well insulated and it isn't heated so it is useless for music in the winter. But it's great in the summer!
According to music historians the Austrian composer Franz Schubert (1797 - 1828) wrote this composition in the summer of 1826 in a beer hall, jotting the notes down on the back of a menu. He had apparently stopped in to the place to have a couple of pints and cool off.
The theremin in the video is a Moog Ethervox. The Haken continuum is a continuous controller which, unlike the theremin, does not have a sound of its own. It can sound like just about anything you want and, like the theremin, can elegantly slide from one end of its range to the other in a seamless "gliss". It is also polyphonic and has 16 voices (the theremin is monophonic with only one voice).
I was going to call this piece, "Schubert & the theremin & the continuum go to Bollywood" because I am used to wearing Indian clothes when the weather is particularly hot (as it was today when I recorded this). Natural air conditioning!"
Intellijel Corgasmatron percussive + melodic
YouTube Uploaded by s0LVentCIty on Jul 9, 2011
"Hello my name is Solvent and this is a 2-part video demonstration of the Intellijel Corgasmatron eurorack VCF, using it's screaming resonant filters for percussive / subbass / metallic mayhem. No audio signals (VCOs / noise) are being passed through the VCF - what you hear is coming strictly via the Corgasmatron's self-oscillating filters.
All of the sequencing is done via a Make Noise setup -- Brains, 2x Pressure Points, and clocked by a MATHS.
In the first part, only the LPF is used. It's being modulated by an MFB ADSR, and the Make Noise B+PP. The MATHS is being used as a slew/portamento occasionally.
In the 2nd part, Make Noise B+PP is also sequencing a Jomox MBase01 kick, and a Snare part created with MS-20 white noise into a YuSynth Arp VCF. The Cogasmatron's signal path is set up just like an MS20 - HPF into LPF in series. HPF is being modulated by PP+B (FM2), + a Tip Top Audio z3000 mk2 VCO (FM1). I used the z3000's sine wave out (I think). The z3000 is also being sequenced by the PP+b. LPF is being modulated by MFB ADSR (FM2), and PP+B (FM1)."

"Hello my name is Solvent and this is a video demonstration of the Intellijel Corgasmatron eurorack VCF, being used here on a melodic bassline part.
Sequencing is done via a Make Noise setup -- Brains, 2x Pressure Points, and clocked by a MATHS.
Make Noise B+PP is also sequencing a Jomox MBase01 kick, and a Snare part created with MS-20 white noise into a YuSynth Arp VCF. The Cogasmatron's signal path is set up just like an MS20 - HPF into LPF in series.
The VCOs are a Tip Top Audio Z3000 mk2 + a DinSync OSC303, with a little vibrato courtesy of a Livewire Vulcan LFO. Their pitch is controlled by Ch1 of the PP+B, with the CVs quantized through an Intellijel uStep.
HPF is being modulated by ch2 of PP+B (through the MATHS for occasional slew/portamento), and by an MFB ADSR. LPF is being modulated by ch3 of PP+B, and by MFB ADSR.
This configuration, sequencing these 2 distinctive filters in series, is a big part of why the MS-20 has been so indispensable to my sound over the years - so much movement to the sound, and it really sits in a mix so well. If you've listened a lot of Solvent music, you've likely heard this sound from me before. This Intellijel filter nails the MS-20 essence here - hollow and wooden one minute, then sizzling and razor-acidic the next."

Rhodes Chroma Vintage Synthesizer
YouTube Uploaded by TheAnalogLab on Jul 6, 2011
"A Rhodes Chroma fully refurbished with a Rebuilt Power Supply, 100% fully functional voice cards, and tuned by The Analog Lab in NYC."
"This vintage Rhodes Chroma has been fully and meticulously restored by The AnalgoLab / Expert Audio Repair Service in New York City. Analog synth guru Jeff Blenkinsopp built a completely new power supply which is much more stable and reliable than the original one. (The original one failed, as they notoriously do.) The tuning is ultra stable on the instrument now ...for a complete description of what was done to the power supply, click on this link...
The instrument also comes with the original owners manuals and service manual, complete with schematics, and a fully functional J. L. Cooper Chromaface , which is a MIDI interface box made for the Chroma by JL Cooper. The MIDI works beautifully, as you can see in the video.
Frank Eventoff Sonica Synthesizer #172
"This is a extremely rare piece Sonica synthesizer that absolutely does'nt come around too often, built by Frank Eventoff. Only 650 of these were ever made. Very few are now known to exist. The body is carved of mahogany, and has a plaque with the number (#172). It comes in a custom-sized case with power cord."

Korg Poly-61 with Custom Wood Case & MIDI Retrofit
"This is a version you don't see very often, it started life as a regular Poly-61 and at some point was sent to a Korg service center to have the midi retrofit kit installed. The kit was available after the Poly-61M was released, and after the kit was installed the synth is the same internally as the Poly-61M."

Mutable Instruments Shruthi-1 Synthesizer
via this auction
"The Shruthi-1 is a hybrid digital/analog monosynth. Its hardware design is deceptively simple, but the sonic range is wide: sometimes grungily digital like a PPG-Wave, fat and funky like a SH-101, videogame-y like a Commodore 64, weird and warm like an ESQ-1 ; but more often than not, truly original. Contrary to the hardware you can purchase at the music shop next door, a Shruthi-1 isn’t designed to be industrially manufactured. Indeed, its assembly doesn’t require any specialized equipment, besides a screwdriver, cutters, a soldering iron and two hands..."

"This auction also includes seven EEPROMS with additional sounds. They are labeled Interface Bell Ride, Crash IF, Interface REV SNRE 23, Interface TOM 7, Interface HIHAT, Interface SNAPPY SNARE, Interface SP-12 Kick. I haven't used any of these EEPROMS in the unit, so I can't say if they work or not. They are included for the new owner's use."

New EQ Board for the Rhodes Chroma

"Why an new EQ-board?
Well, most mixers, FX devices and so on nowadays have balanced inputs/outputs. So why shouldn't such an old baby like the Chroma get that feature too? On the other hand the nearly obsolete CEM3360 VCAs on the EQ-board should better used as a replacement part on a faulty DVB as substituting them isn't an easy attempt for some reasons. The circuit is simple: a quad VCA SSM2164 (Z1) replaces the two dual CEM3360 VCAs. It's a current-in current-out device with 33mV/dB controls. Note: This not an OTA! The core looks more like a multiplier (see Figure 1). The (audio) voltages 0-3 coming from the CMB are converted into currents by the 30K resistors. The 510Ohms 470pF series pad from input to ground prevents oscillation."
GAMEBOY, ARDUINOBOY 3 OSCILLATOR SYNTH

"a poject ive been working on.
only just in working stages, not fully working! but nearly hope you see what im getting at with it :)
plan was to make an oscillator part of a modular synth out of gameboys (ie 3 seperately adjustable oscillators). so used arduinoboy software and designed an oscillating part for the synth!
this is it!
hope to build more of the modular synth later on at the back i have made patches for cv to effect pitch and envelope, see what happens!!
also i will show it in greater depth on my blog :----

Roland SH-5 analogue monosynth
"Rare, vintage Roland mono synth dating from 1976.
Great sound with lots of sonic personality and features.
The features:
2 oscillators with 32 / 16 / 8 / 4 / 2 range settings with fine tune on vco 2.
Triangle, sawtooth, square and variable square waveforms for both oscillators.
PWM modulation possible for both oscillators.
Oscillator sync with weak and strong settings.
LFO 1 has two shapes, up and down ramp/ sawtooth. LFO 2 has 3 waveshapes, triangle, sine and square wave
There is both pink and white noise source.
There are two resonant filters, the first is a multimode filter with 3 modes, the low pass is a 24 db diode filter much like the EMS Synthi/ VCS3, plus additional band pass and high pass modes.
The second filter is a classic 6 db band pass that sounds great.
There is a sample and hold generator and a ring modulator.
Great routing capabilities, each section can be modulated by different sources using switches at the top of each section.
The mixer has individual sliders for volume for both oscillators, noise, ring modulation and external input, each source in the mixer can be routed in different ways, either passed through either filters, both filters together in parallel or sent directly to the vca.
Low level (microphone) / Medium (electric guitar) / High (keyboard)
Inputs can be fed through the ring modulator and the filters/ vca.
Finally the vca can be triggered by has a hold setting and a stereo output with panning knob.
Can be controlled via CV and gate with input / output jacks on the rear.
The synth is capable of a large range of sounds and has great possibilities for processing external input."
