"Just some fun coupling my MiniBrute to the Eowave Metallik Resonator. The Metallik Resonator is inspired from the "D3 diffuseur" of the Ondes Martenot, it is a weird loudspeaker made by exciting the Gong foil with an audio transducer. This way the Gong foil plays the part of a loudspeaker membrane will adding its own metallic resonances. The sound of this video is recorded with no effects."

For this next installment of demonstrations, I've recorded the more atmospheric, etherial, vocal, and ambient patches from the Prophet 12. What's wonderful about this synth is the fact that envelope times have been designed to give a wide range of times. This means anything from the most percussive sounds to absurdly long release times are possible. As such, making evolving tonal beds is a breeze and they are sure to find a home in any sound designers tool box when working for film, television, and experimental sound.

Just like the previous demonstration, no sequencing nor external effects have been used. Everything you hear was recorded through a Neve Portico Pre Amp into a Digidesign 192 HD io and assembled in Pro Tools."

Bishop Miscellany Eurorack Module Prototype ░▒▓ Shakmat ● ● BrknFoot Dub ▓▒░

Published on Mar 13, 2013 MrBDust·3 videos

"Hi

this is the demo of a homemade module made with an Arduino Uno and a mcp4922 chip. This module is a dual stepped CV gate recorder, that s to say a kind of weird ASR.

First Knob allows to control your loop length (32 steps, 24 steps, 16, 12, 8, 6,4, 3, 2, 1). This function divides the loop in a certain number of segments (4 segment is the loop length is 8), the second knob allows you to choose the segment you are playing.

Switches are REC, A/B (you can record two different phrases and switch them), cut (the gate output 1 is hacked by the clock), open (put the gate output 1 to +5V - you can combine it with the cut fonction and the gate output 1 is now a copy of the clock input)."

via 7heScissorFiend on etsy

"This is a build of a monophonic Meeblip Synthesizer It is a custom model which functions exactly like the current version except that it has no patch memory.

It is a full featured MIDI synth, all parameters are assignable to midi CC numbers.
It is powered by a 9v center positive AC adapters like most BOSS pedals.

This means that it has:
2 DCO - 1 DCF - 1 LFO - Distortion - Noise - FM - Portamento - and More!

For simplicity, none of the controls are labeled, however it takes less than a day to get an intimate feel for the controls. A diagram of the knobs and switches can be found in the pictures as well as being very similar to the layout of the stock Meeblip.

And yes, the Antenna Dish IS the cutoff knob. ;)"

See this post for the story behind the OB-Mx.

"Oberheim OB-Mx synthesizer designed by Don Buchla. Version 1.04 software dated 6/20/94; inside the unit it says it was manufactured on 8/3/94. Cosmetically in VG+ shape as depicted with light rack rash and scratching top bottom front sides from having been inserted into and removed from racks. Has three voice cards (I think this means "six voices" because each card has two voices). Everything works! Manual is available on-line. Will be heavy to pack and ship; local pick-up in the Los Angeles, CA area welcome. I know there is a lot of debate about the virtues and deficits of this synth but it always has sounded fine to me, you need to run it through some signal processing (reverb, compression) to get the most out of it."

MKS-80 is SN 522196

MKS-80s fall somewhere between a Jupiter-6 and Jupiter-8.

"For sale is an early-80’s Roland MKS-80 Super Jupiter 8-voice analog polyphonic synthesizer module with the sought-after MPG-80 programmer, cable, and original sample sound cartridge. If you’ve ever wanted a real Roland Jupiter 8, but can’t swing the $5000+ they draw these days, this is clearly the next best option available. This is evidently a Rev. 5 model, based on the serial number. This does everything the Jupiter 8 can do, with the exception of the arpeggiator and mod wheels, but since it’s MIDI-triggered, it’s possible to do all of those functions via your MIDI controller. These units work great – not perfect cosmetically but very, very good considering they are about 30 years old. A little rack rash, a little paint chipping/scratching, but everything is well intactand works reliably. The volume slider on the MKS-80 unit isn’t too smooth in its operation, but the MPG sliders, which are the important ones anyway, work fine and are not scratchy/intermittent."

"This synth has a rare mod, the sampler input has been replaced by 6 jacks on the back for vcf signal path input. That means you can insert your own sounds into the signal path to be processed by the vx 90s filters, lfo, and envelope. On the synth menu, you select "sampler" as a waveform to use this mod. If you look at picture 2, you can see the modification- the sampler input has been removed, and six holes have been machined for the vcf inputs. you will notice that 2 of the holes seem to be empty; that is because the threaded washers became loose and fell off--the jacks are still connected inside the synth, they fell back into the case, you will have to unscrew the case and put them back through the holes and put threaded washers back on..."

This demo highlights PROPAGATE as a pitch and gate sequencer when used with MIXMODE to attenuate the individual gate outputs - effectively altering the pitch of the WMD PDO.
Also demonstrated is the snappy and poppy response of the DIFFERENTIAL MANIFOLD's exponential CV response mode and the effect of the CHROMA control - a novel native transistor saturation that adds low end warmth and "thickens" the sound.

The Sound Of Hermès Silver

Published on Jul 9, 2013 hermes·51 videos

You might remember YOGGYONE 'PADWRITER'. For the launch of the new digital campaign of the French luxury brand Hermès, Yoggyone and Eklektik records created the soundtrack of the brand film "The Sound of Hermès Silver”.

Details via Hermes Paris:

"For the launch of its new silver jewellery collection, Hermès reveals its first global digital campaign, The sound of Hermès silver.

What if silver had a sound?
It is with this simple idea that Hermès approached three renowned artists and collective to create an immersive, modern and unexpected digital piece.

United Visual Artist, the British design practise, created a unique installation, in a London studio, that could “play” the sound of silver. Pieces of the new Hermès collection were placed on 16 metallic turntables, each propelled by an intricately designed cogs mechanism. Lasers scanned the jewellery and triggered a sound, to finally compose an experimental symphony.

Under the progressive hands of YoggyOne, each sound was created as a unique interpretation of the silver pieces, influenced by its shape, density, volume and weight.
Voices appear sometimes as if trapped in silver, a reminiscence of the artisans that crafted each piece by hand, in the Hermès ateliers in Paris.

The artistic performance was shot and directed by Caswell Coggins, who introduced his music video and documentary background to deliver a dramatic, powerful narrative. Shot in 35mm, the installation gained new emotional heights with deep blacks and vivid whites.

Hermès, for the first time, adventures itself in an emotive mash up of its historic silver craftsmanship with an artistic performance."

And the YouTube description:

"What if silver had a sound?

Chanting...enchanting chains, bracelets, rings; this is the sound of Hermès Silver.

Out of obscurity a series laser strikes a piece of jewellery placed on metallic turntables, then moves over it, caressing its volume, and coaxes from it its own particular voice. Chaîne d'ancre and its variations, Initiale, Parade, Osmose and Etcaetera - each of Pierre Hardy's creations find musical expression. These alien notes then join together to create an experimental symphony.

This interpretation of The Sound of Silver is a performance initiated in collaboration with United Visual Artist (UVA), the British design practise.

Director: Caswell Coggins

Music: YoggyOne

"Keyboard performance

The use of anti-polarity magnets creates the semi-weighted feel of the keyboard. By using magnets instead of traditional springs reliability and longevity are extended.

Each key press is sensed by an infrared emitter detector pair providing real time analog position data. Optical key tracking technology delivers MIDI velocity, monophonic aftertouch as well as detailed performance capabilities.

Detail of magnets under keys
Capacitive modulation

Just above the keyboard is the capacitive ribbon controller. The ribbon extends across the width of the keyboard and is divided into two regions, each with 32 embedded LEDs for visual feedback. The left region is configured to function as eight buttons, by default assigned to shift the keyboard’s octave assignment. The right region is designed for analog expression such as pitch bend.

LEDs in capacitive controller
We didn't stop at keys and ribbon controls…

Our team designed an open standard for hardware expansion modules.Tactile controls such as knobs, faders and XY pads will be available in the future. This allows you to configure your C.24 based on your performance requirements. Third parties have already started work on innovative modules.

Communication and compatibility

The C.24 communicates to the iPad via Bluetooth Low Energy. We developed an open standard for CoreMIDI over Bluetooth. This technology can be used by any developer to transmit and receive MIDI wirelessly to compatible iOS devices.

KEY app

Miselu’s KEY application makes it possible to use Bluetooth devices to make music. KEY allows you to assign your keyboard’s output to any CoreMIDI compatible iOS application. You can also save presets, allowing you to quickly change your setup during a performance."

Hot Sugar's production techniques are a little unconventional in that he uses found sounds as the sonic source for most of the elements in his tracks, a technique he calls 'associative music'. These sounds can vary from the static on an analogue TV — sculpted in various ways to create an number of different instruments — to samples from an impressive collection of musical toys and random noise-making devices that Nick keeps within arms reach when making music. It was because of this that we decided to ask Hot Sugar to dig into the MiniNova's sound-processing and synthesis capabilities to see what it can do.

Published on Jul 9, 2013 ChrisLody·61 videos

"The Step Sister is a 1-10 step analog sequencer with a built in VCO and VCF that is available to buy from my Etsy shop. Recently i have added gate and CV outputs to the rear of the device to control external equipment. There is a CV out with a range of 0 to 5v and normal and inverted versions of the gate on left and right channel respectively of a stereo mini jack socket. No sound is being produced by the Step Sister in this video, only the output of the Ms10 is heard (its difficult to get them in tune with each other anyway as the VCO in the Step Sister wasn't built to a particular standard and the CV and Gate were added as an after thought).

It has also been tested by a customer (Thanks Shockenetic) with a Yamaha CS5, Korg Monotribe, Modded Monotron and a Technosaurus Microcon.

Here is the original Step Sister video:

benjolin + Phonogene = Sweet Love

Published on Jul 8, 2013 Epoch Modular·6 videos

"This is a little piece I put together using an epoch modular benjolin (Rob Hordijk) and a Make Noise Phonogene. I am also using using a synthwerks force sensing resistor module to trigger the rungler loop function periodically. Aside from that, all of the control voltages are from the benjolin: Triangle A to organize, triangle B to gene shift, Rungler to Gene size, PWM to slide. Oh, and I am also running the phonogene trigger output into the benjolin's filter cutoff cv to add some extra warps and bleeps. The sample is from Stephen Scott's album Vikings of the Sunrise. Oh yeah! I almost forgot. I'm also running the filter output from the benjolin into the phonogene and using the mix knob to bring some of it in here and there. Big deal"
