"There is a couple of small issues with this Arp but it's still fun to play and sounds unique."

"This synthesizer powers on and is playable but has a few issues that would need some attention. When you turn off all bass synthesizer tones there is a weird faint stuck key noise. As a work around you can still play it with at least one them selected which sounds the best anyway and there is no more weird noise. The string/bass button has trouble staying depressed so I use a q-tip now or it will take a while to get it. A couple of the other buttons are tricky but work when pressed with finesse and the sliders could use a cleaning but work and are intact. It can be played as is and sounds good which is hard to find or is a perfect candidate for restoration since it's in great physical condition..."

One brochure is 4 pages covering the Moog Modular 921 Voltage Controlled Oscillator (Master Oscillator), the other brochure is 4 pages covering the Moog Modular 921A Oscillator Driver and the 921B Oscillator. Both brochures are very good condition, especially for being around 38 years old. No writing, no highlights, no punch holes. The day of wonderful musical instrument brochures has all but passed. Brochures like these are around, but getting harder and harder to find just like the synthesizers themselves. See pics. NOTE: This is an original brochure, NOT A MAGAZINE AD. New Hardware Allows Plants to Play Synthesizers at SXSW Interactive

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/datagarden/midi-sprout-biodata-sonification-device

"Data Garden announces MIDI Sprout at SXSW Interactive

Austin, TX - March 6, 2014 - Data Garden, known for it’s art installations of plants playing electronic music, announced the debut of it’s revolutionary instrument called MIDI Sprout.

MIDI Sprout condenses plant sonification technology into a handheld device, allowing people to turn their own house plants into music.

A Kickstarter will be launched today as part of a three day performative installation at South By South West Interactive. The installation will be on view at showcases by Ableton and Moog, sharing bills with the likes of Deadalus and Gary Numan.

“People have been asking us countless questions about how we make music with plants,” said Joe Patitucci, Director and Founder of Data Garden. “We can’t wait for them to bring the MIDI Sprout into their home and do it themselves!”

MIDI Sprout is now available for pre-order through the Kickstarter page. Different levels of rewards come with other groundbreaking musical hardware from Data Garden’s friends at Sub Pac and Critter and Guitari. These packages give backers everything they need to create immersive biofeedback art in their own homes.

'We see this as the beginning of the global DIY biofeedback movement,” explains Patitucci. “Biofeedback art is an amazing aesthetic and therapeutic tool. This is the first time the technology is available to the public free from the influence of institutions.'"

Sequential Circuits Prophet 3000 - Rev B - 4MB memory - Working SCSI- Library

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

via the seller: "Up for auction is my beloved fully restored Sequential Circuits Prophet 3000. This is a project I've worked on for many years. I've spent a lot of money and even more time getting it to where it is today. I don't think you'll ever see another one like it for sale.

Included in this auction:

Sequential Circuits Prophet 3000 Rev B with 4MB of ram installed
Remote Control with blue backlit screen
Properly formatted and working SCSI drive.
Custom analog sound library (50 sets)
Case of factory library disks
Operaton Manual
Service Manual with Schematics
OS disks and diagnostic disks
Wine Country Prophet 3000 Survival Kit
3 extra 1MEG DRAM Chips for memory
Extra Floppy Disk Controller IC
New Buttons on Remote
New Pots on sampler
New refurbished floppy disk drive

Here's the back story:

I bought it close to 10 years ago on ebay from a woman in Italy. It's a Rev B unit so the memory was able to be expanded from 2MB to 4MB. I painstakingly tracked down the 1MEG DRAM IC's and upgrade the memory, so this unit does in fact have 4MB of Ram installed. I then turned to the screen on the remote control. When I bought this unit, the backlight of the remote control was burned out, just like every other unit I have ever seen. Again, I did a bunch of research and figured out a replacement screen for it. The original backlight was white, but I used a blue one because… why not.. The life on this screen is something ridiculous like 10's of thousand of hours. I then replaced the floppy drive because I was having trouble loading disks, so it has a refurbished floppy drive in it now. I then turned to the SCSI to see if I could get that working, I've never really seen one before with a working SCSI drive, but after tracking down the right kind of drive with the correct formatting I was able to get it working nicely. The fan on the drive is a bit noisy but that's what you get with old technology. I'm sure it could be modded to be nice and quite. I then ran across this guy in Ohio who owned an analog synth repair shop. He also owned a Prophet 3000. So whenever a synth would come in for repair he would sample it with the Prophet 3000. He had since sold his Prophet 3000 but he kept the library he created for some reason. I convinced him to sell it to me and that's what's inside the white box in the second photo. A lot of the disks were old and it often took multiple tries to get them to load into the sampler. Only a few of them were unsalvageable. Because I didn't feel like dealing with shoddy disks I went through and made copies of the entire library onto new Sony disks. That's whats inside two of the floppy disk cases you see in the second photo. The third floppy disk case is full of factory disks bought from Wine Country Sequential. There's nearly every OS that came out for the Prophet 300 in there. There's also the diagnostics disk which I used to show that all the memory is working properly and is in fact expanded to 4 MB. Other maintenance I've done on this unit include installing all new buttons on the remote control, new potentiometers on the sampler itself, and I've replace most of the SCI proprietary IC's with new ones from Wine Country Sequential. I'm also including the Prophet 3000 Survival Kit from Wine Country. Some of the IC's in it are the ones I replaced but were perfectly fine, and some are still the new ones. I also have 5 additional 1MEG DRAM chips that I'm including in case one of them goes bad (for the memory). Also included is the Operation Manual and the Service Manual with Schematics in a binder. I think that about does it.

*** in fully disclosure the Prophet 3000 was Sequential's last product they were developing before they went out of business. Very few of them were released to the public as they were really still in beta testing mode. The result is that all the kinks were never completely worked out of the OS so they tend to be a bit buggy at times. I've heard of units that you can't work with because of this fact. However, while this unit can sometimes do some quirky things, it really works well and is pretty stable in my opinion. If you purchase this unit you're purchasing the quirks of it too, it just comes with the territory."

Moog Music Announces Synthesizer Residency At Rough Trade NYC During The Month of March

First posted here on Tuesday, additional details on the event are now in:

"The Installation Opens Tonight March 5 With Sound Experiments By Brooklyn Artists Curated By Tom Tom Magazine

In celebration of Bob Moog's spirit of innovation and creative experimentation, Moog opens a Synthesizer Residency inside of Rough Trade NYC at 64 N 9th Street in Brooklyn for the month of March. The installation is open to the public starting tonight, March 5th, at 8PM with a series of sound experiments from Brooklyn-based artists curated by Tom Tom Magazine [8:00 – 11:00PM].

The installation is free and open to the public. Tonight's opening features sound experiments by:

Lauren Flax :: CREEP

Shiori Takenoshita :: WILD ARROWS
Gabriela Jimeno :: Balancer
Chloe Saavedra :: Chaos Chaos
FonLin Nyeu :: Dragons of Zynth
Alanna Nuala :: MOON

Ava Mendoza :: Ava Mendoza Trio

For 25 days in March, Rough Trade NY is housing the world's largest modern Moog installation as a mile-marker on the road to Moogfest, and Moog invites all artists in the area to stop by and utilize the space for experimentation and discovery. The residency serves as a physical manifestation of the intersection of music, art and technology, and it is meant to be used as an artist's resource. Although it is free to the public, this is no museum exhibit- visitors are encouraged to interact, engage and experiment with the analog electronics. All are welcome to craft sound as well as bring a recording device to sample the instruments.

All instruments in the installation were hand built in Asheville, NC at the Moog factory. Throughout the installation, Moog employees will be on hand at Rough Trade NY to assist artist's with the gear.

The installation includes a producers station, drone towers, 10 voice polyphonic analog synth, 6 voice Minimoog drum synth, and over 50 analog effects boxes.

Future sound experiments will take place throughout the duration of the installation, including an appearance by Kiran Gandhi of M.I.A. on March 20th and another by Anna Barie of These Are Powers on a date TBA.

One free ticket to Moogfest, the innovative festival taking place in Asheville NC April 23-27, will be given away every day of the installation.

The residency is open to the public from 11am-11pm daily from tonight until March 29th."

iVCS3 Official EMS VCS3 Emulator for iPad Now Available

iTunes: iVCS3 - apeSoft

"Official EMS VCS3 emulator

The VCS3 was created in 1969 by Peter Zinovieff's EMS company. The electronics were largely designed by David Cockerell and the machine's distinctive visual appearance was the work of electronic composer Tristram Cary. The VCS3 was more or less the first portable commercially available synthesizer—portable in the sense that the VCS 3 was housed entirely in a small, wooden case.

The VCS3 was quite popular among progressive rock bands and was used on recordings by The Alan Parsons Project, Jean Michel Jarre, Hawkwind, Brian Eno (with Roxy Music), King Crimson, The Who, Gong, and Pink Floyd, among many others. Well-known examples of its use are on The Who track "Won't Get Fooled Again" (as an external sound processor, in this case with Pete Townshend running the signal of a Lowrey Organ through the VCS3's filter and low frequency oscillators) on Who's Next. Pink Floyd's "On the Run" (from The Dark Side of the Moon) made use of its oscillators, filter and noise generator, as well as the sequencer. Their song Welcome to the Machine also used the VCS3. The bassy throb at the beginning of the recording formed the foundation of the song, with the other parts being recorded in response. The VCS3 was also a staple at the BBC’s Radiophonic Workshop, and was a regular (and most frightening) sound generator for the Dr Who TV series. Many fo the monsters and atmoshere;s created for the show came directly from the VCS3.

Description

The VCS3 has three oscillators (in reality, the first 2 oscillators are normal oscillators and the 3rd an LFO or Low Frequency Oscillator), a noise generator, two input amplifiers, a ring modulator, a 18dB/octave (pre-1974) or 24dB/octave (after 1974) voltage controlled low pass filter (VCF), a trapezoid envelope generator, joy-stick controller, voltage controlled spring reverb unit and 2 stereo output amplifiers. Unlike most modular synthesizer systems which use cables to link components together, the VCS3 uses a distinctive patch board matrix into which pins are inserted in order to connect its components together.
Keyboards controller

DK1 keyboard controller

Although the VCS3 is often used for generating sound effects due to lack of built-in keyboard, there were external keyboard controllers for melodic play. The DK1 in 1969 was an early velocity sensitive monophonic keyboard for VCS3 with an extra VCO and VCA. Later it was extended for duophonic play, as DK2, in 1972. Also in 1972, Synthi AKS was released, and its digital sequencer with a touch-sensitive flat keyboard, KS sequencer, and its mechanical keyboard version, DKS, were also released."

New Waldorf 2-pole Analog Filter Teaser

Published on Mar 6, 2014 WaldorfMusicChannel·6 videos

"The 2-pole Analog Filter box is giving the guitar player, the DJ, or the keyboard player access to the heart of the Waldorf sound - with an inspiring user interface with a one knob/one function philosophy."

There is also word of a new Waldorf Streichfett?

"'There's actually not much to say, except maybe Joy Division, Bee Gees, Vangelis or wide, fat soundscapes.' and it seems to be at least partly analog."

via Soviet Space Child

Update: details on the Waldorf Streichfett posted here.

Details on the the Wadorf 2-Pole below:

"For some decades now, analog filters have had a deep impact on contemporary music. Since its very beginnings, Waldorf has been renowned for the quality of their excellent sounding analog filters.

Whether these were integrated in stand alone units, such as the 4-Pole, X-Pole or the AFB16, which enabled the world's first analog plug-Ins, or were found inside our synthesizers such as the Wave, the Q+ or the Pulse - Waldorf filters have influenced the world's sound for over two decades.

As a logical consequence, our exclusive analog filter technology is now available in this novel square box (unexpectedly matching the Rocket synthesizer). 2-Pole is giving the guitar player, the DJ, or the keyboard player access to the heart of the Waldorf sound - with an inspiring user interface with a one knob/one function philosophy. Spice up your live performances with dramatic filter sweeps that really cut through. Funk up your guitar licks by hooking a pedal controller to 2-Poles' cutoff CV In or using the integrated envelope follower. Animate your pad sounds using 2-Pole's LFO. But beware - no matter what you do with this tiny black box, make sure you set the levels to your amplifiers and speakers correctly, as 2-Pole is yet another beast from Waldorf - with love!"

SEQUENTIAL CIRCUITS SIX-TRAK Analog Synthesizer 1984 | HD DEMO

Published on Mar 6, 2014 AnalogAudio1·126 videos

"(c) 2014 by AnalogAudio1

Synthesizer demo of the analog synthesizer SCI Six-Trak from 1984. It was the first multitimbral MIDI synth on the market (it came before Oberheim Xpander).
In this movie I play some of my own sounds - on some sounds I used a digital delay (Roland DEP-5) and reverb (Lexicon MPX-500). In the intro I used the sequencer of the Six-Trak.

The Six-Trak has 1 VCO per voice (6 voice polyphonic). It also has 3 ADSR, 24 dB VCF, noise generator, LFO with different waveforms. It has a sort of "slimmed down polymodulation": VCF modulation by VCO for dirty and metallic timbres. Unison mode for fat, monophonic sounds. Great "stack mode" allows layering of six different patches.

I like the Six-Trak very much. I would wish it had multiple outputs and a chorus effect."
