Evaton Technologies SDIY MDRONE

Published on Oct 25, 2015 Russ Hoffman

http://www.evatontechnologies.com/

"The Evaton Technologies SDIY MDRONE will be available in November. This video demonstration shows the powerful standalone drone synth that YOU build! Just in time for the holiday season, the SDIY MDRONE makes the perfect gift for the DIY'er in your family, or buy one for yourself! PCB + Parts kit available in November, with a pre-drilled, case with legend available soon after. (Video shows a clear pencil box case as an example of a case you could build yourself).

The SDIY MDRONE consists of 3 square wave oscillators and a bandpass filter with adjustable center frequency and bandwidth. The filter can be overdriven for a grittier sound. Simple thru-hole construction can be completed in as little as a single evening.

Operation from a single 9V battery allows hours of tweaking. Use the SDIY MDRONE alone, or with external effects for maximum fun. And, best of all, you can take pride in having built it yourself!

Detailed assembly manual has step-by-step instructions, and, for educational customer, also includes a discussion of the basic circuit theory."

The Everything ARP Symposium Coming to Berklee College of Music

via Berklee

"David Friend Recital Hall

921 Boylston Street, Boston, MA, 02115, United States

The David Friend Recital Hall.

The Electronic Production and Design Department announces the 2015 Everything ARP Symposium. The panelists for the event will be founder Alan R. Pearlman and former ARP employees, industry representatives, scholars, musicians, and producers.

ARP Instruments, active from 1969 to 1981, was a pioneering company in the development of the electronic musical instrument industry. The ARP 2600 and ARP Odyssey helped define the sound of pop and jazz fusion music from that time, with major artists such as the Who, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, and George Duke using ARP instruments to develop their signature sounds. This symposium will serve as a forum to discuss how these important instruments were developed, marketed, and used by artists. With software emulations of the 2600 and Odyssey, and Korg's recent release of a new hardware version of the Odyssey, the early achievements by ARP Instruments remain relevant to contemporary artists.

Admission: Free"

-CALC- takes Novation Circuit to meet some new friends and they JAM LIVE

Published on Oct 25, 2015 -CALC-

"The Novation CIrcuit has fast become one of my favourite things.... it's an instrument, it's a workstation, it's simply the quickest and most fun way to make electronic music anywhere. I've been using it a lot on it's own and it is a very capable device used this way.

Now that I've had it at home for a few days though it makes perfect sense to fit Circuit into the studio and use it the way I really want to. Of course Circuit feels right at home in this set-up straight away too.

This video is a Sunday evening fully live jam after a nice lazy weekend. It's pretty long but visits a few different places musically... not least the self-indulgent psychedelic live keys wig out roughly 3/4s of the way through resulting from running the Roland JX-3P through a Sherman Filterbank 2.
Circuit is running all of the way through and glues the piece together well.

Here's what was used:
Novation Circuit
Novation Bass Station 2
Roland JX-3P
Elektron Octatrack (With Novation Launch ControlXL mapping)
Elektron Analog RTYM
Elektron Analog Keys
Moog Voyager
Roland SH101
Roland RE-150 Space Echo
Strymon Big Skies
Sherman Filterbank 2
Allen and Heath Zed R16
Expert Sleepers USAMO
Ableton Live (as a big 30 track tape recorder)

Animoog and Sub Phatty Jam

Published on Oct 25, 2015 SYNTHWAY

"I was away for some time... now I'm back! :)

Just having fun with Animoog and Sub Phatty.

Animoog is playing a drone-pad sound, controlled with Keystation Mini 32 connected with CCK. The Sub is just playing my favorite lead sound, translated from the Little Phatty.

This isn't the most creative thing I've done, but the 25 + 32 key range makes me more limited than usual. I'm also rusted...

Cheers! Thank you for listening!!"

"This is the first DSI Mono Evolver Keyboard production model produced! Serial #00001

This keyboard is in great condition with the exception of a few minor blemishes on the wood sides - as you can see in the pictures. There is also one knob missing but you can get a replacement from DSI. [Just the cap appears to be missing]

Being the first model produced, this is the rotary encoder version and may need to have the encoders cleaned from time to time unless you buy the PE upgrade from DSI."

"AS NEW IMMACULATE Synthesizers.com Portable 22 Customized System Synthesizer. In place of the ring modulator and blank space, I had this built with the Q150 Ladder Filter...

'The Portable-22 is a powerful three-oscillator analog machine complete with envelope generators, amplifiers, a mixer, state-variable filter, ring modulator and more in rugged vinyl-covered portable cabinet. Patch cables included.

Add a controller bundle or drive the system with MIDI.
Expansion is easy by adding more cabinets. This system has a QPS1 power supply which is capable of powering up to 66-spaces of modules.

The Q150 Transistor Ladder Filter is based on Bob Moog's famous design and provides incredible-sounding -24dB lowpass filtering which has become the standard of subtractive analog synthesis.

The cutoff frequency can be controlled manually and by control voltages from an envelope generator, oscillator, keyboard, etc. Frequency control signals can be attenuated and inverted without the need for utility modules. Resonance (Q) of the filter can be adjusted with the front panel control. The filter will self-oscillate and track a 1V/Octave keyboard control voltage. Both -12dB and -24dB slopes are available offering a wide range of sounds. One pole and three pole responses are jumper-selectable for even more possibilities. A convenient two-channel mixer is provided for incoming audio signals.

A special feature of the Q150 is output leveling. In most ladder filters the output signal level is greatly reduced as the resonance is increased. This usually requires resetting input levels (sometimes many) when changing resonance settings and can become quite annoying. Special circuitry in the Q150 maintains constant output level at various resonance settings while keeping the harmonic content unchanged. This feature is jumper-selectable and can be deselected if identical behaviour to the Moog ladder filter is desired.'"

Published on Oct 25, 2015 A Box In The Sea

"I used two Barcus Berry contact microphones to sample this extremely simple music box I made from a 5 dollar player I bought on amazon. It comes with a hole punch to make your own chords and melodies. Each mic is processed through it's on convolution reverb before being sampled via the Octatrack, Samplr and the WTPA2. The WTPA is being triggered by Medow Physics (controlled by the Monomer grid). This gets sent through the modular for processing via the 4ms SMR, Clouds and the Erbe Verb. I'm using a Korg Nano to mix the volumes of all 3 outputs (via the ESX 8CV) to create the textures. It took me hours to record this because I got so lost in all the textures the Medow Physics/WTPA/Modular were making.

Samplr is routed through the Cocoquantus and played live. The OT is running 6 chopped up versions of the sample which I'm constantly mixing with another Korg Nano."
