Meng Qi - Duet With Myself

Published on Sep 24, 2016 Meng Qi

"a self-contained eurorack system
instant and tactile like an acoustic instrument

1) hardwired connections between Folktek Matter and Meng Qi Seashore;

2) tonal / atonal audio from Skot Wiedmann HYVE / IFM Mr.Grassi, travels thru body into various points within Matter;

3) left/rightmost inputs on Seashores are equipped with jacks, thus touch-controlled external signal injection / feedback are convenient;

4)Meng Qi DPLPG provides smooth vactrol based voltage control of volume and tone;

5)Recovery Effect Cutting Room Floor offers pitch shifting looping / delay / faux reverb, and is sensitive to incoming volume;

6)bottom jacks on ADDAC Size Matter is connected to a D-Class amplifier, a hefty built-in surface transducer provides strong sound and vibrations to feel with body.

it went through a few revisions.
I hope it stays in the fine line between redundancy and scarcity, like a well designed standalone instrument."

What are Presets for ? Access Virus Indigo Original (Virus B)

Published on Sep 24, 2016 100 Things I Do

"First things first, there is nothing wrong with presets. Many very talented people spend a lot of time creating them and they can sound great and very inspirational... but the fun is always in creating your own :D.

I set myself the task of no more than 1 minute to get to a very different sound than the one I started with.

I have been asked a few times to show more of the Access Virus, so here it is. If your looking for a good low budget hyper flexible synth, for the current price its gold. You can have the Virus B currently for around $500usd or less! I paid $600AUD for mine, super cheap. Maybe not as cool and hip as the Virus TI's but very very close in sound quality and still some very flexible features.

From a time where Blue LED's were still considered new, exciting and a pretty neat idea on anything :D"

Nomad Rhythm 12 - Vintage Drum Machine

Published on Sep 24, 2016 Dave Burns

via this auction

"This is a very rare Nomad Rhythm Maker 12 drum machine.

Beautiful warm sound.

The machine has 12 different presets. You can also combine a couple of presets but pressing both buttons together.
There’s tempo, tone and volume control.

In the back there’s a 1/4” output jack as well as an input for a foot switch (not included) to start and stop the rhythms.

The last photo is taken from Joe Mansfield’s book about vintage drum machines where the Nomad is featured.

The drum machine seems to be in good working condition. Some of the presets are slightly odd - the Cha Cha and the Mambo seem to be playing the same beat, the Waltz and the Slow Rock seem to be quite minimal.

The start button is occasionally acting out and not starting the rhythm immediately but if that happens, I just depress and press again and it’s working fine.

Cosmetically, there’s some wear here and there - light scuffs, marks and a couple of small wood chips. Overall it is in nice vintage condition.

Please refer to photos for condition."

ACID on Novation Circuit & Volca Bass

Published on Sep 24, 2016 RemixSample

"Sequencing undistorted acid on the Korg Volca Bass with Novation Circuit.
One 0:00 Two 5:55 Three 8:25

The Volca Bass would sound way better with some distortion but this will do for now. Being able to play around with the sequence length on the Circuit turned out to be really useful. Especially when you drag out a 1 bar loop for 6 minutes."

Roland JD-800 Programmable Synthesizer SN ZC78108

via this auction

"The person I bought this from said that he bought it new, played it a few times, then put it in storage. When he took it out of storage it was infected with the red glue problem.

I bought the synth and refurbished the keys. It now plays wonderfully with no clicking or sticking keys.

I can't prove the story, but there are some indications it has been lightly used. For example, the white cushion for the keys showed very little wear from keys making indentations (picture). Also, when you open up these old synths, they often have dust or grit, and are sometimes oily inside. This one was fairly pristine (pictures). There are a few small scratches here and there, but they are mainly on the front and back, and are not visible looking down at the top panel controls."

Adventures in Synthesis: Spring Reverb Feedback, Sequential Switch, and Wild Modulations

Published on Sep 24, 2016 Chris Beckstrom

"The other day I was experimenting with a sequential switch, using it to cycle through various waveforms coming from a single oscillator. It's a bit like the classic dubstep wobble bass, where the divisions of the wobbling change every bit. Of course since this is a modular synth, things can- and do- get much crazier.

This module along with some other unusual modules, gives it a very beautiful and distinctive sound when coupled with the very effective method of control using the 2 touch keyboards. A singular instrument considering this is the only Buchla system I have ever seen with a Harmonic Generator module in it. It actually reminds me of certain sound effects (not music) used on the original "Star Trek" series. The time and location of manufacture makes this a definite possibility. Please excuse the excessive noodling!"
