Beast-Tek Mini Glitch VCO Eurorack Module

Published on Nov 7, 2016 Beast-Tek

"Mini Glitch is an experimental 8bit granular VCO that harnesses controlled software errors to produce its distinctive sound. The process starts with 1v/oct phase modulated grains that wave shaped and then fed through a single buffer overflow algorithm which has real time control over the glitching produced. Finally a pitch compensation engine attempts to correct the error in pitch tracking caused by the glitches, but it is physically impossible for pitch to track perfectly at 1v/oct once glitching is underway. Mini Glitch is a lot more predictable in its control than other Beast-Tek glitch VCOs"

Beast-Tek Hard Glitch VCO Demo

Published on Nov 7, 2016 Beast-Tek

"Hard Glitch is an experimental 8bit granular VCO that harnesses cascaded controlled software glitches in combination with harsh wave shaping to produce some wild sounds. The process starts with 1v/oct FM grains that are fed through multiple software errors. A pitch compensation engine attempts to correct the error in pitch tracking caused by the glitches, but because the glitching is so extreme its efforts are mostly futile, in which case pitch tracking mostly ends up linear. Hard Glitch is highly random in its response to CV / parameter changes due to the multiple glitches feeding into one another. For a much more smoother, predictable response to parameter changes the Mini Glitch is a better choice."

Beast-Tek Rich Glitch VCO Eurorack Module

Published on Jan 5, 2017 paul tas

"Rich Glitch is an experimental 8bit granular VCO that harnesses multiple controlled software glitches feeding back into each other to produce some wild sounds. The process starts with 2 separate 1v/oct granular audio signals that are each combined with a separate sub harmonic granular signal and fed into separate glitching engines which are fed back into each other depending on the “Cold Hard Cash” setting. A pitch compensation engine attempts to correct the error in pitch tracking caused by the glitches, but because the glitching is so extreme its efforts are mostly futile, in which case pitch tracking mostly ends up linear. Rich Glitch is highly random in its response to CV / parameter changes due to the multiple glitches feeding into one another."

Sketchpad: Circadian Rhythms + QuantiZer.mp4 from Station 252 on Vimeo.

"Trying out the sketchpad function of the new Tiptop Audio QuantiZer. When the two are connected and synced via Syncbus it is possible to record CV sequences that will follow in length whatever is looped on the CR and by switching the loop off it is possible to "hang" on the current pattern and it's associated part of the recording on the QuantiZer. Trigger Riot is clocking the quantisation and triggers the synth's envelope from the same output: clock divided by 3 and by 1, I increase the 1's pulse width mid performance."

Active vs. Passive Multiples for VCO Control

Active vs. Passive Multiples for VCO Control from Learning Modular on Vimeo.

"There is a lot of debate and confusion among modular synth users about whether or not you need an active, buffered multiple to control multiple VCOs accurately in a modular system. The answer is "it depends" - on the buffering and output impedance of the module sending the control voltage, and the input impedance of the modules being controlled. Some combinations work fine with a passive multiple. Some most certainly do not, going out of tune within +/- 1 octave. This video - excerpted from a longer one in my 'Learning Modular Synthesis: Moog Mother-32' course - demonstrates a case where passive multiples do not work. As a result, just to be safe, I keep a few good buffered multiples - like the Intellijel BM or Malekko Performance Mult - in my system, just to be safe. (I also have the Xaoc Dvices Warna II and AJH Synth V-Scale arriving soon.)"

Cyclone Analogic TT-303 MKII Demo with TT-606

Published on Jan 5, 2017 djthomaswhite

"This is a demo of the newly released Cyclone Analogic Mark 2 TT-303. This is the same Bass Bot engine that has been out on the market for a couple of years in an all new enclosure and with new sequencing features similar to those used on the TT-606 and TT-78 machines, also from Cyclone Analogic. The acid tones are really nice in this analog bass machine, and you will certainly satisfy your acid cravings with this family of machines. The new Bass Bot includes new features named "Mute" and "Hammer" which can also be described as "shorter gate" and "sustain of sorts" with both of them being great for performance, but also being available to program in sequences like DUAS (Down, Up, Accent, Slide). The built-in Shuffle feature is quite well done, and having swung out acid bass is not something you commonly hear or that the original TB-303 from Roland was capable of. I love it, slick polished case and all. Maybe it's not for you, but if you're curious take the leap. It's a solid piece of analog kit. Thanks to Perfect Circuit Audio for making these units available in the US."

OP-1 Sidechain FX with the Updated Tremelo LFO

Published on Jan 4, 2017 djthomaswhite

"Here is a demo video of a feature in the new Teenage Engineering OP-1 you probably just glossed over. As a modulation tool, the already useful Tremelo LFO has been updated with 4 new waveforms (Ramp, Exponential Ramp, Square and Pulse) and the wave reset now starts at the beginning of the wave shape cycle. Also, the timing of the divided wave shapes found on the blue knob from 6 to midnight are even divisions of the time code/tape speed in the device. You can do a lot of new modulations with these additions when combined with the existing pitch, volume and envelope control, but the biggest new one for me is 'Sidechain FX.' Typically "Sidechaining" is made possible with a compressor, and by triggering the compressor with an external signal to reset the volume compression. You can simulate that here, if you are seeking 4x4 rhythmic sidechaining with the updated Tremelo LFO and the Exponential Ramp Wave. You can also get downright nasty with the pulse waves and linear ramp wave. Never forget you can negatively sweep sounds too, not just sweep them up. Dance producers take note, this is aimed squarely at you. It's happy hour in OP-1 land... Let's go get modulated!"
