This is a *HUGE ACHIEVEMENT* for me, Friends!
** I am so proud to say that I've got a sample pack inside of this app! **

GEEKERY SIDE NOTES: This is also my FIRST video shot entirely in 4k, 60fps which proved a time-consuming-patience-tester, but this video looks pretty darn good I think!!

I used my new iPhone 8+ to do all the filming (ProMovie) *AND* editing (LumaFusion)!

Matrixbrute Does 8-bit Gamer Music

Published on Jun 14, 2018 Kris Lennox

"Short wee illustration of duophonic mode on the MB. Good wee riff. I think the track name is 'The Mansion'. The riff is the best part, so I only recorded it (I added my own ending just to finish it off).

I intentionally kept the sound very bare. Listening back, the bass is probably slightly too soft in the mix on the MB. But that's ok. :)

I may do a series of old game music on synth :) could be fun. And I may try out some of those 8-bit synth modules.

Unsure what happened with the vid - when rendering, there was no black at the top & bottom. I'm not too bothered about changing it, though. It'll do. :)

Disasterpeace's music comes to mind with pieces like this.

PS this was just a single-take performance. I had a spare 10 minutes earlier. Enough time to do a wee recording. :)

All best
Kris"

Vintage ARP Odyssey 2823 Serial #0001

via this auction

"The ARP Odyssey is a dual oscillator analog synthesizer and one of the first synths to feature duophonic capability.

The Mark III was introduced in 1978. Mark III's are also the most common models of the Odyssey. The Mark III used ARP's four-pole "4075" filter.

While earlier models had used a simple rotary knob to control pitch bend, The Mark III introduced proportional pitch control (PPC). PPC used pressure-sensitive buttons to control bend up, bend down, and vibrato. ARP included PPC on other instruments, and also offered a kit to add PPC to earlier Odyssey synthesizers.

Mark III Odysseys also have unbalanced XLR outputs, in addition to unbalanced 1/4" outputs.

The Mark III was cosmetically overhauled to feature a redesigned chassis and orange and black color scheme, which was consistent with other contemporary ARP instruments.

Production of the Odyssey Mark III ceased when ARP Instruments declared bankruptcy in 1981.

Over all very good condition but the switch knobs are falling apart and all will need to be replaced. Comes as shown with paperwork. 1 owner non smoker its whole life. The best part about this synth its the first MKIII ARP ever made! #001 ! A real collectors item."

"Dream synth for experimental, industrial and noise musicians. This is an utterly unique instrument that is a secret weapon, and can get you sounds that you just cannot create with anything else. Create sounds that range from thick, evolving synth pads to total environments of sound that are so alive-sounding, morphing and constantly growing that it'll make your head spin."

DSI Sequential Prophet-6 VCO analog synthesizer demo sweet tone. Wonderful filter IMHO.

Published on Jun 14, 2018 Dave Bellamy

"Jamming on my Sequential Prophet-6. I love the tone of this thing when it is on song. The P6 has a really sweet tone once you get away from the presets on board. Once you explore the sound you discover the truly gorgeous filter with all its nuances. This P6 does have slightly wobbly tuning sometimes though - but that's analog for you - sometimes it is just wobbly enough! I'm using the arpeggiator again. Recorded straight live directly to cassette tape (very old fashioned I know). It's easy to play for an hour and wonder where the time went.

I think this synth would have fitted very well with the unique sounds on Genesis Duke and that era of Genesis in 1979 to 1980.

Brooklyn Synth Expo 2018 - A Video Tour

Published on Jun 12, 2018 The Deli's Synth Expo

Two videos from last weekend's event.

"This past weekend, around 2,500 musicians made their way to the Brooklyn's Synth Expo and Stompbox Exhibit, to play with synths and stompboxes. Tens of thousands of knobs were twisted while hundreds of ears evaluated the results.

The organizers' goal behind the idea of joining these two already established expos was to foster cross-pollination between the formats, and therefore generate more interest in each. The effort seemed to succeed, with many of the more experimental pedal lovers trying out synths and many synth lovers looking at the edgier stompboxes to add an extra variable to their synths' effect section."

New Stereoping Synth Programmer for Rhodes Chroma

"Demo for the Stereoping Synth Programmer for the Rhodes Chroma (with CC+ Midi Interface). 3 rack units high, convertible from rackmount to desktop with optional Woodcheeks, 3.5 kg steelcase, 45 knobs, direct access to all parameters of the Chroma, clear text values on display for Patch Modes, Waveforms, Modulation sources and others. This quick demo is not that comprehensive, i just wanted to record at least something before the owner of the Chroma gets his Synth back. The Video contains two parts of turning knobs while some sequences of the MPC1000 are sending Midi notes to the Chroma. The first clip covers the basics, the second is about the 'Relative' Mode which allows keeping value intervals between Channel A and B for tuning and time relevant parameters."

2. Introducing BITE from EFFECTS SERIES – CRUSH PACK | Native Instruments
CRUSH PACK is the latest installment in Native Instruments’ new line of effects. BITE, DIRT, and FREAK offer modern twists on the prized tone of early samplers, the timeless shred of a sophisticated stomp box, dynamic ring modulated sci-fi sounds, futuristic timbres, other-worldly radio broadcasts, and more.
3. Introducing DIRT from EFFECTS SERIES – CRUSH PACK | Native Instruments
DIRT is a distortion stompbox that combines analog modeling with highly refined controls and flexible routing.
4. Introducing FREAK from EFFECTS SERIES – CRUSH PACK | Native Instruments
FREAK combines frequency shifting, ring modulation and radio modulation techniques in one versatile package.

Update: The official press release:

"Berlin, June 15, 2018 – Native Instruments today launch EFFECTS SERIES – CRUSH PACK, a follow-up to the critically acclaimed MOD PACK.

CRUSH PACK offers three plug-ins, covering a wide array of tonal distortion effects – bit-crushing, stompbox-style distortion, ring modulation, amplitude modulation, frequency shifting, and more – and each with innovative new creative features, such as allowing external sidechain sources as modulators. Each also features the same prized sound quality that earned MOD PACK plaudits from press and users alike, making CRUSH PACK another essential upgrade from the distortion effects found in DAWs.

CRUSH PACK consists of three VST/AU/AAX plug-ins: A bitcrusher and sample rate reducer called BITE, a distortion effect called DIRT, and a multi-mode modulating device called FREAK. 234 carefully designed presets showcase the huge range of tonal distortion possible.

Additionally, all MOD PACK owners can enjoy a significant crossgrade discount on the price of CRUSH PACK.

BITE recreates the prized sonic imperfections that defined hip-hop and dance music’s first golden era, but it takes things much further. It allows a wide sonic palette, from authentic 80s organic digital crunch to depth-charged extremes. Modern features like auto-input/output compensation ensure controlled chaos.

DIRT offers organic-sounding distortion, crafted by sound designers. Flexible signal routing, blending, and other carefully crafted parameters allow unusual levels of control. Unlike the stompboxes upon which its sound is based, DIRT’s controls are calibrated for subtle tone-shaping (even when delivering extreme sonic results), and powerful features such as wavefolding allow complex, dynamic timbres, even from simple sources like sine waves.

FREAK (derived from ‘frequency shifting’) delivers three sound-bending modulation types in one plug-in. Innovative modes like retro radio lo-fi, stereo modulation, and wild sidechain ability sit alongside classic AM, ring mod, and frequency shifting techniques. This range allows detuned horror-style vocals, rich metallic timbres, rhythmic sidechaining, the sound of vintage broadcasts or alien transmissions, and more.

Pricing and availability
EFFECTS SERIES – CRUSH PACK is available now at the NI Online Shop for €69 / $69 / £59 / ¥ 8780 / AU$ 99

MOD PACK owners can upgrade to CRUSH PACK now at the NI Online Shop for just €44 / $44 / £37 / ¥ 5600 / AU$ 60"

I added a description of this issue to my global synth resource pages for synths using this vcf in case others see this failure mode."
