It appears to take 5 1/4" floppies. Advert scan below.

"Back in the day on my studio, I used an Steinberg Pro-24/Atari ST set-up, and I can attest that the MIDI DJ was tightest compare with the ST and it is portable!. Below a couple of features, such as:

As a conventional MIDI sequencer, recording polyphonic performances and overdubbing them in the usual fashion for playback 'live' or synchronised to tape via a drum machine.
Up to 12,000 note capacity per sequence
A total of 45,000 notes per disk (just limited by storage capacity of the disk)
Real time record
inboard clock for tempos from 1 - 255 beats per minute
Two track recording of data w/ "sound on sound" technique
Standard 5 1/4 floppy disk format and more.

· As a data filer which will let you store (for instance) DX7 sounds on a cheap 5 1/4" floppy disk rather than an expensive RAM cartridge.

· For those interested in playing live, as a playback machine for sequences which have been created on a much more complex system and easily incorporate MIDI and CV analog input and outputs

I assure you that this is one of a kind and it will be hard for you to find another one like this one and in this amazing state."

via this auction

"Like most drum machines from the mid-1980s, the Roland TR-505 generates its percussion sounds by replaying pre-recorded digitized samples of real drums. These sounds are stored as pulse-code modulation data in ROM. Whereas older machines such as the LinnDrum, Oberheim DMX, etc. typically stored each sound on its own ROM chip, with dedicated digital-to-analogue converter and associated circuitry; this TR-505 includes a pre-assembled board with a ROM with samples from the Linn LM-1, LinnDrum and Oberheim DMX. The sample data from these machines is compressed (they used non-linear DAC circuitry to simulate 12-bit resolution) all controlled by 2x toggle switches.

Provides four switchable banks of sounds:
Stock TR-505,
LM-1,
LinnDrum
DMX
Reversible installation - board is socketed, so you can remove it and return to the stock configuration
Basically you can have tree extra classic and hard to find drum machines for less than the price of any of them."

SpaceCraft is the BEST CHEAP Granular Synth │ haQ attaQ Jam

iTunes: SpaceCraft: Granular Synth - Mark Watt

"SpaceCraft is a Granular Synthesizer for iPad and iPhone and it's dirt cheap too. Not only that, it's also very easy to work with thanks to the limited graphical user interface. You'll have something going with SpaceCraft a few seconds after launching it for the first time and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to get into simple, granular synthesis. The app isn't perfect and needs a lot of work though. I cannot stress how much this thing would benefit from a proper working AUv'3 mode, because as of right now it can only be loaded as an fx plugin and the sample import wont work when doing that."

"This pack is available now: http://www.goldbaby.co.nz/stompbox808..."

"I have been using guitar pedals for sound design for many years. Distortion, fuzz, overdive, filtering, reverb, chorus, all manner of different pitch modulation, octave generators and Lofi FX. I don't know why I didn't think of this doing pack before... the 808 through these boxes is a sonic wonderland of drum goodness.

This pack contains a varied and useful palette of new 808 sounds. Not just full on distortion (although there is plenty) but also subtle saturation and new punchy, warm tones that you can only get through these wonderful little analog and digital stomp boxes. Also included are some crazy/weird drum sounds that you wouldn't even think came from an 808.

Chromatic kicks, congas and toms are mapped and tuned so you can play them on your keyboard (EXS-24, Kontakt and Maschine). All the samples are logically labeled and organised. With kits for Maschine, Geist, Battery, Kontakt and EXS-24. I have even created a PDF with all the kick and conga drum tuning info for those who don't have the software formats I have included."

MIT Plasma Science and Fusion Center
Building NW21, 190 Albany Street
Cambridge, MA

In collaboration with the Department of Nuclear Science & Engineering and the MIT Media Lab, ACT presents Resynthesizer, a performance, installation, and public tour series of MIT Media Lab Professor Joe Paradiso’s modular synthesizer, temporarily installed within MIT’s internationally known Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC). Resynthesizer will incorporate a month-long series of public tours of the synthesizer at PSFC intended to highlight a participatory dialogue between the varying departments—and the public—concerning transdisciplinary research efforts engaging one of the 21st century’s most pressing challenges: to produce the next clean, economically efficient, and sustainable energy.

The Paradiso Synthesizer, arguably the world’s largest homemade modular synthesizer, produces sounds which are 'programmed' manually by running wires between various outputs and inputs. Unlike today’s digital synthesizers, which normally hide their many capabilities behind menus or graphical interface screens that allow for changing only one parameter at a time, the modular synthesizer exposes all aspects of sound creation and modification simultaneously via the physical modules.

In Resynthesizer, the Paradiso Synthesizer will utilize final data gleaned from PSFC’s legendary fusion device, the Alcator C-Mod tokamak—one of only three domestic tokamaks housed within a US Department of Energy funded user-facility. In 2018, however, C-Mod lies dormant due to a completion of operations and termination of previously obtained government funding in 2016. Nevertheless, containing a wealth of data archived from more than 20 years of operations, C-Mod continues to exist on the MIT campus as the world’s only compact, high-magnetic field, diverted tokamak, allowing it to access unique experimental regimes and influence the direction of the world fusion energy program.

With this collaboration and contribution of PSFC data, the synthesizer’s modules will produce complex and varied sonic environments from the complicated “patch”—the set of connections—that Professor Paradiso creates. The patch determines both the sounds and how the sounds are controlled and triggered, ensuring that the sonic environment generated by the synthesizer will never be repeated. Made evident by Paradiso’s installation and performance, this experimental and artistic process of creation and modification is ultimately what connects both the history of fusion energy at PSFC and Professor Paradiso’s exploration of sound as a malleable product of digitized data."

Mutable Instruments Ambika 6 Voice Hybrid Synthesizer - 6 x SMR4 Filter

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Ambika is a monster hybrid polysynth. Its design consists of a motherboard and 6 voicecards, each of them carrying a turbocharged version of the Shruthi hybrid synthesizer (digital waveform synthesis through analog VCF/VCAs). Whether you want to use this as six monosynths, a six-voice polysynth, or anything in-between is up to you: MIDI channels/keyboard range/patches/voices are distinct concepts, allowing complex layered, split, multitimbral setups. In addition, each voice has a switched individual output."

"Ambika offers all the delicious digital waveform synthesis algorithms (FM, vowel synthesis, wavetables…) that made the Shruthi famous, and some newcomers too: CZ-style emulation of digital filters and wave sequencing. The oscillators signal is now processed through a fuzz/distortion and a bitcrusher before being sent to the analog filters. The modulation possibilities are immense thanks to the 4 LFOs (3 synchronized and 1 free running), 3 ADSRs, and the large modulation matrix (14 slots, 4 modifiers)."

Special Minimoog Restore (by Synthpro)

Published on Jun 25, 2018 synthpro

"Hey Guys,

This was a very sick minimoog that came to me for a restore and was on the verge of being too far gone to save. Because this unit was in such poor shape and I had the, "ok" from the owner, I decided to accept the challenge of the restore and add some customization to make it a one of a kind minimoog.

The music you hear during the slide show was performed on this actual minimoog, its just a rough track I put together for this video, I call it, "From Grave to Glory".

Special thanks to the following people:

Gary, for giving me this opportunity to restore your minimoog, was a fun and challenging project.

Johnny, from Accel Graphics for his help making the new labeling for the back panel jacks.

Also a special thanks to my Dad for always giving me his support and for his help sanding the cabinet, this was a huge help.

Thanks for watching and all the support from the viewers as well, would not be able to even have a business like this without all the support from the viewers and clients."

ALTAIR 231 - SOVIET ANALOG SYNTHESIZER with MIDI ussr russian minimoog (AUDIO DEMO)

Published on Jun 25, 2018 VintageShopVideo

via this auction

"It is a 3-OSC monophonic precise equivalent of infamous western MINIMOOG MODEL D, produced in the USSR in 1986 by Elektroizmeritel military factory in Zhitomir. Altair-231 is a refined version of another well-known soviet analog synthesizer Estradin-230. Both synths has identical electronic architecture, functionality and rich sound palette. Estradin-230 was manufactured from early to middle eighties and then Estradin factory changed synth`s design (new casing) and labelled it as "Altair-231". So Estradin-230 & Altair-231 are the same machines only in different bodies.

Synth has 4-octave keyboard (F-C) with velocity (sensitivity assign to vibrato effect). For live performance there is a wheel which provides pitch shift. ALTAIR-231 is based on 3-VCO (OSC-3 can work as the modulator), 1 VCF (lowpass 24dB/oct) with ADSR, 1 VCA, 3 LFO, noise generator (white/pink), glide, memory. It has an EXTERNAL INPUT allowing to use FILTER and GENERATORS with OTHER INSTRUMENTS such as guitars, synths, etc! ALTAIR-231 consists of 5 main sections - OSC, MIXER, MODULATION, FILTER and AMP."

Endorphin.es - Shuttle System by Audio_units / Beatworx from Bangalore, India

Published on Jun 25, 2018 TheEndorphines

"In the framework of our interviews within the final of Life is a trip contest, we spoke with our participants are from Bangalore, India: two talented brother duo - Ashwin Baburao and Ashrith Baburao: Audio Units / Beatworx Studio.

- How did you come to use synthesis in your music?
When we first started making music, about 8 years ago we would use more loops than synthesized sounds and were quickly running out of new ideas. We realised for electronic music to sound good and uniquely ours, we needed to use traditional (subtractive synthesis/sampling, etc) and non-conventional methods (additive/FM/granular, etc) alike to generate ideas and sounds.
We also figured that these sounds could be more human-like if we incorporated modulations to add expression like with most physical instruments. Besides, we come from a background that’s more about curiosity and being musically inclined rather than being formally trained so making electronic music seemed like the right choice and a whole lot more fun than learning to play the piano, no regrets!
Out of sheer need to be more creative and to find "our" sound, we started to mess around with VSTs and quickly got into the analog and semi-modular realm and the rest is history.

Analogue Solutions Introduces Dedicated Eurorack Version of the Treadstone

The desktop version was introduced back in December, 2017. You can find additional posts featuring the Treadstone here.

The following is a recap of the features via Analogue Solutions.

"Versatile Analogue Synth and Sound Maker

No compromise has been made with the construction of Treadstone. Cheaper options in parts have not been used.

Full rugged steel/aluminium case – no plastic mouldings
Good quality smooth, fully sealed against dust
Good quality knobs with spun aluminium caps
High grade double sided circuit board
Analogue discrete VCO, analogue SSM style 24db filter
High Quality 16bit DAC for MIDI-CV conversion Stable MIDI to CV
MIDI converter
MIDI loop sequencer
LFO, Noise, Sub Osc, EG, PWM, lofi digital echo
Analogue voice and modulation circuits
Stable analogue oscillator
Designed, built, tested and assembled in the UK
True retro analogue voice and modulation circuits used in the synth element to give an authentic retro [sound]

Analogue Oscillator

The VCO is very analogue and uses discrete components and op-amps. One oscillator, yet still sounds big - using PWM and Sub Osc creates a full warm and deep sound.

Analogue Low Frequency Oscillator

The LFO has triangle and square wave modulation signals.

Analogue Filter

Treadstone uses a four pole 24bB per octave multimode filter. The filter is a re-issue of the classic SSM2044, as used in many classic synths such as the Korg Poly 6, Monopoly, Emulator, SP1200.

Analogue Mixer

Audio signals such as the VCO, Noise, external audio are all routed to the VCF via an analogue mixer.

Analogue Amplifier

The VCA can be set so it is always ‘open’. This allows Treadstone to be used as an effects processor.

Analogue Envelope

The EG features ATTACK, SUSTAIN, and combined DECAY/RELEASE. It’s not really true to say it is an ASR envelope, it really is an ADSR - Decay and Release are both controlled by the same control. Saving space with little compromise in flexibility. It’s possible to drone or auto-repeat the envelope also.

Modulation

Great thought has been placed into modulation route choices, allowing a wide range of sounds to be produced, including percussion and ‘modular’ style sounds."
