Studiologic Sledge INIT & Preset Scrolling/Selection Bugs

"AVOID the Studiologic Sledge (Sludge) Synthesizer!!" Published on Jul 19, 2018 alternatingbitmusic

"I made this to save you the trouble. I WANT to love this synthesizer but sadly the system is UNSTABLE, even at version 2.5.1. Ghosting patches, INIT patch freeze ups etc. I contacted the company and the matter was downplayed and I didn't even hear back in the final round of questioning. I sent it back and got a synth with a stable core."

Any other Sledge users see this problem?

Burden by Andrea Pessino

"An experiment in orchestral writing with all custom sounds on analog synthesizers. Not trying to sound like an orchestra, just going for thick textures and harmonic language. Synthesizers used:

Arturia MatrixBrute (“soloists,” fx/glissandos/sweeps, far percussion)
Korg Prologue 16 (drone, pulses, rhythmic stabs, harp-like faded arpeggio and extra pads in finale)
Behringer DeepMind 12 (celli-ish arpeggio)
Novation Peak (counterpoint pads)
Dave Smith OB-6 (softer, filler pads)"

DRUMS AND SAMPLES SYSTEM: TEST DRIVE

DRUMS AND SAMPLES SYSTEM: TEST DRIVE from Station 252 on Vimeo.

"We've decided to compact a bit our live systems. Here is a short test drive of my ''drums and samples'' system that now also includes two Z-DSPs, so no dedicated FX skiff needed.

Drums:
BD909
BD808
Toms909, SD808, CP909, RS909 -> MixZ -> Vermona VcDrive -> Toppobrillo Multifilter Hi Pass -> Z2040
Cymbl909, Hats808, Hats909

Samples: 4x Tiptop ONE
1 - one shot samples -> VCA for accents
2 - Chords
3 - Loops -> Tiptop Forbidden Planet prototype -> Z2040 (FM by Z4000)
4 - Long samples -> R*S VSVCF (FM by Z4000)

The two filtered ONEs that are playing long or continues samples are running through filters that are heavily modulated by the two Z4000s (triggered from dedicated trigger outs) to create percussive sounds, rhythm and bass structures.

Sequenced using Tiptop's Circadian Rhythms, Trigger Riot and Antimatter's Launch Codes

This system is specifically designed to play rhythm section as part of ZV_K.

Structures & textures: Norns (Pisound/push2 version) , Organelle & Seaboard/Audio Damage Quanta

Published on Jul 19, 2018 junklight

"I got Monome Norns running on Pisound/Push2 (thank you Mark Harris aka thetechnobear) and it's absolutely wicked - so much potential. Here I'm using the 'wormhole' script - a variation on one of the Norns studies and then the Flin script (getting brave and switching patches/setup while I'm playing - working towards playing live all the time :-) )

I paired it with the Organelle and Audio Damages brand new Quanta and let it all take me where it wanted to go......."

Blade Runner Style

Published on Jul 19, 2018 Alex Ball

"Past to Future samples are one of my favourite developers. They recently put out a Kontakt library made with the holy grail that is the Yamaha CS-80 (1976).

It was recorded with a Lexicon 224 and baked onto a Studer A80 tape machine. It's about as authentic as you'll find. There's 12 patches all designed to capture the vibe of Vangelis and Blade Runner. They're seriously dreamy and huge, straight out of the box. And it costs just $15 to purchase!

Link here: https://gumroad.com/pasttofuturereverbs

I put some patches to use in an original composition that's a humble homage to the great composer. I experimented with his meandering and modulating style and if you're interested, the main chord pattern is: Cm, B2add#4, A2add#4, Abadd2, Gb6/9, Fm7 and then back around. The 12 bar phrase is open ended and so it's less obvious where it starts and ends, quite a useful technique. The JX-3P also has its second oscillators tuned a perfect 5th up, which creates some interesting bitonal harmony in some places and adds upper extensions in others.

Sounds used:
Yamaha CS-80 Blade Runner Synth for Kontakt - four patches
Roland JX-3P
Korg MS-20
Sequential Circuits Pro-One
Oberheim DX
Roland TR-606
Rhodes Mark I Seventy Three
Rhythmic Robot EMU Emulator II
Spitfire Joby Burgess Percussion
Orchestral Tools Metropolis Ark 3 timpani

Sequencer: Cubase 9 / Arturia Beatstep Pro
Plugins: Goodhertz Vulf-Compressor, T-racks, Waves, Past to future reverbs, U-he Satin

Endorphin.es - Grand Terminal *FIRST PATCH*

Published on Jul 19, 2018 DivKidVideo

"Here's my first patch and first play around with the very lovely (filters and FX sound great!) Grand Terminal from Endorphin.es. I'm using the function generators to modulate both the WTF prototype oscillator and the internal filter then using the on board reverb (lovely frozen / infinite verb trail on it) going into a VCA to side chain against some drums before getting mixed together for the patch. I have a track recorded to release later in the year with this as well as the full in depth demo coming in the not too distant future."

Novation // Circuit 1.7 - Synth Micro Nudge

Don't miss BoBeats' sneak peek video posted yesterday.

"Even greater control of your groove creation – for free!

The evolution of Novation Circuit continues, with v1.7 bringing some hotly-requested powerful functions, including Pattern Chain Sequences, Tied/Drone Notes and Synth Micro-nudge. Download the system updater here.

Key features

Make songs

We've expanded what’s possible with the Patterns view, allowing complex sequences of patterns and pattern chains to be made. There's a new Pattern Chain Sequence function, from which up to 32 patterns and 16 chains of patterns can be selected in any order. Patterns and chains can be repeated, and sequences can be build up and easily navigated between. The append setting can be toggled to add patterns and chains to an existing pattern sequence, even when playing.

Create Tied/Drone Notes

Each step now has a tie-forward setting, so it's now possible to tie notes together in order to create drone notes and long ambient pads.

Take music off the grid

It's now possible to take music off the grid by delaying notes on a step from one to five ticks (each step is divided up into six ticks). It's also possible to use Synth Micro-nudge to create new, more complex rhythms like triplets across the beat."

"Analog pioneers Arturia are set to release DrumBrute Impact, an exciting new hardware drum machine that combines raw, energetic sounds, advanced sequencing, and fast, fun workflow into an addictive little powerhouse you won’t want to put down.

The newest member of the “Brute” analog hardware family, DrumBrute Impact really lives up to the name. Featuring attitude-packed, tweakable analog drums sounds, an all-new “Color” layer, output distortion, and arguably the best sequencer on the planet, DrumBrute Impact promises to redefine the way you create rhythm, drums, and percussion, both in the studio and on stage.

In the sound department, DrumBrute Impact features 10 fantastic sounds accessible through 8 responsive performance pads:

KICK : pounding bass drum with nice attack transients and variable pitch and decay. protocol.
SNARE 1 : a big-bodied snare with great, editable snap and decay.
SNARE 2 : a trashy snare with a hint of clap, with adjustable tone and decay.
TOM HIGH : simple but powerful high tom with sweepable pitch.
TOM LOW : pants-shaking low tom that can get so low you could use it as a 2nd kick.
CYMBAL : zingy, metallic crash with adjustable decay.
COWBELL : a simple but effective percussive cowbell.
CLOSED HAT : hard-hitting hat with variable tone that also effects the Open Hat.
OPEN HAT : open up the hat sound with changeable decay with a mute controlled by the Closed Hat.
FM DRUM : a percussive synth voice with adjustable carrier pitch, decay, FM amount, and mod pitch.

These sounds have been carefully crafted by Arturia’s sound designers to not only sound exciting and visceral, but to also create a cohesive “kit” sound that truly gives DrumBrute Impact a unique, inspiring voice.
