"The Junior 106 is an incredibly rare and hard to find custom modified Juno 106 done by SynthSpa. It was completely serviced and modified in 2016. It has all the functionality of a Juno 106 in a smaller form factor. It has purple LEDs, yellow display window, and a yellow illuminated pitch bender. And, it's YELLOW!! I also had SynthSpa put some wood cheeks on it (original matching yellow cheeks will be included too). Everything works perfectly."

[demo] Arp2600 Demo Track (TTSH clone)

Published on Nov 2, 2018 Synthesizer Video Service

"The TTSH is an ARP2600 clone. My TTSH is version 3 with some fixes and exchangable filters (currently with Moog filter mounted). Moreover, it has several modifications like additional waveforms for oscillators 1 and 3, suboscillator for oscillator 1, midi and reduced gate and trigger voltages.

This demo was recorded directly into the DAW on 8 stereo tracks. No additional external effects (like delay, reverb, EQ, compressor etc.) were used, only the inbuilt spring reverb. The tracks were not postprocessed. Consequently, you hear 100% TTSH. I just took an external clock to get an easier sync, but the TTSH (like the ARP2600) has an internal clock to get the same results."

"On The Run" Reconstructed by Moot Booxlé

Published on Nov 2, 2018

"I completely reconstructed Pink Floyd's synth classic "On The Run" using my Synthesizers.com and STG Soundlabs modular synthesizer. The main sequence was played from a Korg Minilogue, synced to an SQ-1 sequencer, which is playing the percussion sounds. The key ingredients to making this sound authentic are the STG Soundlabs Mixer and Sea Devils Filter, which is a recreation of the classic filter used on the original.

There are two sounds that required some additional processing:
The panning, whooshing sound at the beginning of the track was created by running white noise through a Leslie simulator (Amplitube 3).
The explosion at the end was created by "crashing" my Q115 Reverb (Accutronics) tank and then digitally lowering the pitch. It still didn't have enough impact so I layered an actual explosion sound underneath.

Sort\Lave - New Release by Richard Devine

On BandCamp and on Spotify

The release is also available on CD and Limited Edition 3LP.

"After a break of 6 years, Atlanta based electronic musician, producer and sound designer Richard Devine returns with a new album ‘Sort\Lave’ on Venetian Snares‘ Timesig imprint. Recorded between 2016 and 2017 using Richard’s custom built Eurorack modular system and two Nord G2 Modular units, Sort\Lave features 12 tracks of intricate electronica that ranges from abrasive percussive experiments such as ‘Revsic‘ to ‘Astra’s dazzling juxtaposition of sounds and onto the radiant ambience of the album’s closer ‘Takara‘.

Talking about the album’s genesis Devine explains “I’ve been using modular synthesizers since I was 17, but have never written complete tracks using these newer systems. This was my first experiment to see if it would be possible and I probably spent about 5 years building up the systems that I used on this album.”

“I wanted the record to sound very different to my previous works which had been more cold, digital, clinical even, and had all been made using computers. The aim here was the complete opposite, to create something that felt very organic, detailed, spacious, big and warm and just as importantly, a record that you could put on and play all the way through that flowed in a seamless way.”

This new approach was to prove fruitful and enabled Devine to create music in an entirely new way. “I really wanted to break free from timeline-based music creation and do things with my hands on the fly,” he explains. “So the tracks are more like captured snapshot performances where I could experiment and play around with the idea of probability-based sequencing for every patch, string multiple sequencers together that would feed other sequencers to come up with interesting rhythms and melodies. It was really fun coming up with new sounds this way too, I felt like I created several I haven't heard before with this album. Some of the tracks on the album were complete accidents and evolved from something that happened spontaneously. In the end I feel this is one of the best records I have released to date, so I’m very excited to share it with the world.”

Making his debut in 1995, Devine’s releases for labels including Schematic, Warp Records and Detroit Underground have established him as one of the leading figures within the electronica community. In addition to his musical productions, Devine has enjoyed a lengthy and successful career in sound design, developing patches for many of the world’s leading music technology businesses and working with companies such as Google and Nike.

Mark Verbos on Designing Modular Synths | Red Bull Music Academy

Published on Nov 2, 2018 Red Bull Music Academy

"In this episode of Studio Science, recorded at the Funkhaus as part of Red Bull Music Academy Berlin 2018, Mark Verbos explained his approach to designing hardware using his own modules as well as insights from his years as a musician, engineer and Buchla student. #RBMA20 #modular

Mark Verbos is a self-described “product of the early Midwest US underground electronic music scene.” The Milwaukee native first began performing improvised live shows in 1992 and releasing in 1994 on a variety of local and national labels. Performing on hardware from the beginning of his career, Verbos soon began to develop an interest in how the machines he used were made. Learning from the go-to repair man for vintage Buchla instruments, Verbos began to create his own machines as well as repair others. In the process he developed what he calls a deep interest in the Buchla philosophy of designing instruments and not tools. In 2014, having since relocated to Berlin, Verbos’ love affair and interest with hardware synths took a new step with the founding of his own company, Verbos Electronics, which manufactures Eurorack modules and modular systems that carry on Don Buchla's esteemed tradition to new generations of synth enthusiasts.

The Red Bull Music Academy is a global music institution committed to fostering creativity in music. We celebrate music, its culture, and the transformative minds behind it. Begun in 1998, the Academy has taken the core principles that underlie its annual workshop for selected participants and applied this curatorial approach to events, lectures, and city-wide festivals throughout the year."

"Add additional functions to the already versatile Music Easel via the Program Card connector!
The Aux Card offers an auxiliary modulation CV source and noise source in low range and a CV/audio oscillator source in high range that can be mixed with the noise source. The noise source also can be filtered. All these parameters are CV controllable. In low range this auxiliary modulation oscillator allows the 208’s Modulation Oscillator to assume audio duties and can be used as the modulation source for a variety of uses. In the keyboard bus setting, it provides a tuning reference for your 208 or can be controlled with internal bus capable 218e keyboards.

We’ve also given you more control with more inputs. We’ve added one more pulse input and give you a choice of switchable destinations. We also added switchable control of timbre pot and switches via the “to card” inputs already on your 208. Did you know you could CV control switch settings? Destinations include the timbre wave shape, the Modulation range, gate source, the VCA LPF mode, the Modulation wave shape and Modulation Variation."

u-he Repro-5 musical synth demo

Published on Nov 2, 2018 once upon a synth

"Demo of the U-He Repro 5 softsynth plugin. These are some of my favourite presets (all stock). The Repro-5 is a clone of the SCI Prophet 5 and it sounds fantastic in my opinion. No external effects are used, so if you hear a reverb it's from the plugin itself. The Blofeld is only used as a MIDI controller, all the sounds are from the Repro-5 running on my computer.

Sorry I don't have the names of the presets. I tried to do a screen recording by half-way through it got too CPU intensive running alongside the Repro-5 so I had to shut it off cause it was affecting the sound. I'm going to try and find a better way to do this next time. But they're all stock presets so they shouldn't be too hard to find if you browse through them. I was browsing presets in the order in which they appear in the library."

Four Brick Rock-Shakmat Modular unboxing and first impression

Published on Nov 2, 2018 Dziam Bass

"Today we have a little unboxing and first impression of this great Four Brick Rock module from Shakmat Modular , it's a great tool, a super quick trigger sequencer - I'm boldly comparing it to MPC with only 4 pads.
It quickly records and plays drums, quantizes and has mute / unmute functions for these 4 sounds, instant cleaning and recording again on the fly and in Fill mode you create mega controlled Rolls with adjustable offset.
Trigger sequencer, clock connection, reset, tables to create the right parts of the sequence, load and save patterns, sequence length from 1 to 32 steps is only part of this small module, plugs connect trigger to your drums or module with samples and then the fun achieves a new level .
Definitely a great module for arranging our modular systems."

F.M. Synthesis. A Catalogue of Materials. 02 Wood

Published on Nov 2, 2018 Element433

All parts here.

"This is the second installment from the 'FM Catalogue of Materials' synthesis cinematic videos.
These are intermediate level F.M. synthesis, so they require a little knowledge of synthesis in general. Each video contans the blueprint for the synthesis of the basic sound of physical resonant materials such as metal, wood, air, strings as used in musical instruments. Some of the videos cover more abstract electronic Sounds and SFX.

The parameters on the videos are from the VOPM free FM plugin. They are the same as the Yamaha FB01 and CX5M. They will work on most Yamaha 4 operator FM synths. They work well on, Preen FM2, Korg early FM synths and NI FM7 and FM8 too
http://www.geocities.jp/sam_kb/VOPM/

Synthesis Parameters
The idea behind this series is to provide the most universal F.M. parameters (mainly frequency ratio data) from which to create variations of the 'material' timbres in the videos. You will be surprised how much variation is possible by changing the fundamental frequency and the inharmonic frequency of the bells.

LFO. This is the most important parameter for creating the "woodiness".

The LFO wave must be a random wave (sometimes called Sample and Hold)
Set the speed to max and then dial in depth/intensity until you get the wood texture. You will also notice it creates ambient reverberation. Unfortunately the DX7 LFO's are to slow to create this effect. On the Sy77 and TG77 use a noise operator as an alternative.

Levels and Envelopes
Level and envelope data varies quite a lot depending on the model of F.M. device you have so they were omitted here, however, it is fairly easy to work them out by listening and following the order in the video.

1. Make sure you have the correct algorithm.

2. Start with the first operator as the loudest operator (full level). Then get the level for each subsequent operator. Follow the order in which they are switched on in the video and experiment to get the timbre as close to the videos as possible.

2. The envelopes are pretty easy to work out and are fairly obvious if you listen to each operator as it is switched on in the video.

Unfortunately because of time constraints, I am unable to offer support."
