Technos Acxel Rare Additive Resynthesizer Walkthrough

Published on Apr 18, 2019 Perfect Circuit

"In this video, we take a walk through the most important features of the vanishingly rare Acxel, a vintage additive synthesizer designed by Québécois company Technos in the late 1980s. The Acxel uses an array of over 2000 LED-embedded touch plates to allow users to visualize and control various aspects of a sound, and is capable of synthesizing sounds from scratch or resynthesizing recorded sounds from the ground up—an incredible feat for its time.

Vermona, Jomox, Arturia - Quick Jam

Published on Apr 18, 2019 Kraft Music

"Shop exclusive Vermon, Jomox and Arturia BUNDLES at Kraft Music: https://www.kraftmusic.com/synthesize...

We thought it'd be fun to combine a Vermona DRM1MKIII, with a Mono Lancet '15 running through a Jomox T-Resonator II, all sequenced by an Arturia Beatstep Pro!

Got a request or an idea for a Combination you'd like to see in a quick jam? Be sure to let us know in the comments!

Vermona DRM1 MKIII is a true analog drum synthesizer, and it's worth pointing out to those unfamiliar that it has no onboard sequencer or patch memory: trigger it via MIDI and tweak all the sound controls in real time via its 72 knobs. Different drum types offer a different range of controls, from the FM parameters present on its three multipurpose DRUM channels to the onboard reverb and noise generator available to the SNARE and CLAP channels to the low pass filter on the SNARE and the two CYMBAL channels.
https://www.kraftmusic.com/brands/ver...

The Vermona Mono Lancet '15 is a monophonic analog desktop synthesizer module with two oscillators, a 24 dB/octave lowpass filter, envelope generator, and LFO section with 6 waveforms (versus 3 on the original Mono Lancet). Mono Lancet '15's knob-per-function interface provides intuitive control over its warm, characterful analog sound. In addition, Mono Lancet '15 is expandable via the separate Modular Dock eurorack module.
https://www.kraftmusic.com/brands/ver...

The T-Resonator is something like an M-Resonator + Digital Delay. But you can select 8 different delay algorithms, each with different delays and different feedbacks and modulate them even with an LFO. Delays reach from less than a millisecond to 1 second, range and structure is depending on the algorithm. The delay feedback comes across the analog filters, of course. You can create gaining analog echoes, "klingon parties" by extremely feedbacked wave guide algorithm and much more. By the analog feedback everything sounds organic. The screaming analog feedbacks can delay themselves and thereby form new sound patterns.

The Arturia BeatStep Pro controller & sequencer is designed as both a powerful hands-on hardware sequencing environment and pad / trigger controller. With two fully independent sequencers, an additional drum sequencer, and the ability to record real-time or use the step buttons for a classic drum machine workflow, BeatStep Pro is one impressive step sequencer. A built-in looper, randomizer, and swing settings offer numerous performance possibilities. BeatStep Pro's controller mode lets you launch clips in a DAW, play drum sounds in a module, and more. Whether you need to connect to MIDI, USB, CV/gate, or DIN sync gear, BeatStep Pro delivers total creative control.

Improvisation #92 for Prophet '08

Published on Apr 18, 2019 The Musical Synthesizer

"This is a recording from an old session using two similar patches played on the Prophet '08s. The bass pedal board was not used; everything was performed on the keyboards.

The upper P'08 is programmed with a deep swirling imposing bass patch, fairly complex and, of course, using both layers panned in stereo. Perhaps it's most subtle characteristic is that there is modulation of octaves. When one sustains a note, there is a rocking back and forth between a 16' pitch and a 32', which adds a mysterious immensity. The lower P'08 has a similar patch, but simpler and adapted for chordal use.

"Made in Italy, circa 1979.

I first came across this synth after hearing Adrian Utley of Portishead fame raving about it in the below YouTube video from 2008. It’s a lush poly synth and fat mono synth in one and sounds fabulous. The synth was used extensively on Portishead’s album Third (see “The Rip” and the John Carpenter-esque outro of “Machine Gun” in particular).

Totally nails Solina string ensemble as well as John Carpenter-esque sounds, but on top of that you have a bunch of great poly synth sounds and a tweakable monosynth with very fat sounding filters. (Add a dash of effects and this thing really comes alive.) The below AnalogAudio1 videos are great examples."

New Legendary Voltage Controlled Synthesizer RAST-A | VST Instrument for HALion

Published on Apr 18, 2019 VST Instruments & Plug-Ins

Oberheim OB-X / OB-Xa based soft synth. Sounds like my old OB-Xa, but not seeing a 2-Pole / 4-Pole switch.

"RAST-A for HALion is an homage to legendary voltage-controlled synthesizers of the 1980s. It not only models the musical influence of individual hardware components on sound, but also simulates the temperature drift of VCOs. Combined with a classic modeled filter you get all the tools to bring back the vibrant sound we all loved so much.

RECREATED ANALOG SYNTH TECHNOLOGY

This modeled synthesizer is heavily inspired by a classic synthesizer which was famous in the ’80s. The original was used heavily by artists like Prince, Queen, Styx, Van Halen or Supertramp. But, RAST-A has not the intention to be a one-to-one clone but rather an homage to a specific sound which dominated a whole decade of music.

Hot! The temperature drift simulation

Vintage in every way you can imagine; play with the temperature drift simulation of VCOs to make your sound less predictable.

A real classic: Polyphonic portamento

Each voice comes with a separate portamento. And that lets you can recreate the typical outstanding glides some synth were famous for."

Quad Octoginta II Yusynth Miscreant from Million Machine March 4 OSC Eurorack Module with Joystick

via Million Machine March

"Since the CEM3340 chip was put back into production, and after seeing what a few other makers have built with them, I decided it was time for me to come up with my own take on this ‘tried and true’ chip! I looked over the various designs on using the CEM3340’s and settled on the Octoginta II.

Now that the VCO’s were sorted and I was able to purchase the DIY PCB’s, I needed to choose a wavefolder design. I like what Yusynth did with Haible’s wavefolder and went with his design here.

The YuSynth design required me to make my own PCB’s. This can be a laborious process if you have not done it before. But I have the process down to a science here in the lab, so I was able to get these made pretty quickly. Taste the Sodium Persulfate in the air, aahhhhh!...

The inspiration for this build and using these particular chips is to try and satisfy my want for a Oberheim OB-Xa! Hopefully Behringer will be able to produce an affordable clone soon, but in the meantime…"

Playlist:

1. Novation Peak new Wavetables
A look on the new wavetables on Novation Peak.
Zero effects (apart from minute 7.00)
One oscillator at 100% volume (at minute 7.00 I add a second OSC with sine wave at 70% volume).
Waveshaping on each wavetable and filter on some of them.
With the 1.2 update, they have made the Peak one of the best modern Polysynth, in my opinion. New LFOs, dedicate effect mod matrix with four slots and many other things, just WOW.
Enjoy!
(sorry for the crooked video)
2. Novation Peak Ambient Sequence
I made this chilling sequence to show how the modulation matrix of the Peak, with the right filter configuration, can change the sound we are making.
Yes, I’ve watched too many Knobs’ videos.
3. Strymon Volante with Novation Peak synthesizer
Some sequences made with Arturia Keystep and Novation Peak to show how beautiful is the Volante delay.
Enjoy :D

Drumbrute Impact x Volca FM + Kick 01

Published on Apr 18, 2019 Oscillator Sink

"One of my favourite things about this past Jamuary is that it encouraged me to put together smaller set-ups and work quickly within that framework. So recently I brought together the Arturia Drumbrute Impact with the Korg Volca Kick and FM to recreate that vibe and recorded a couple of jams over a couple of days - this more up-tempo one was the first of the two.

Obviously the Drumbrute Impact is in charge of the drums, a little less obviously the Volca Kick is doing the bassline (no kicks here!) and the Volca FM is providing the top line using a patch generated by the Synthmata random patch generator and is going through the Digitech Polara Reverb on the way into the interface."

No, I haven't gone Mad, well maybe a little! I was rearranging my Studio and got my old JX-3P out and had no intention of making any Patches on it, but hey...I started it up and played some of my old Patches for a bit of fun.

I'd never actually tested the Save to Tape function of my particular JX-3P so I backed up the Patches and decided to do 32 Brand New Patches for it, just because...Well, I can :) Added a bit of Compression, but that's it, no external FX.

Wasn't a commercial decision as it has been taken over by Plug-Ins and Plug-Outs and all that, but decided to put them out there for users of the originals to buy. 32 Patches, who knows, there might be more in the future! :)"

Huge, lush analogue sounds, as famously used by Prince, Rush, the KLF, and many more. Eurorack Interfaces // Receive 2 & Transmit 2 from Joranalogue Audio Design

Published on Apr 18, 2019 DivKidVideo

"Shout outs to the birds outside my house! (you'll see what I mean) ... I wanted to make this video to highlight something that's really simple but I think an important part of a modular system.

In the video I go through the Receive 2 (RX2) and Transmit 2 (TX2) from Joranalogue Audio Design. They are a dual balanced XLR/Jack input pre amp and a stereo balanced output and headphone amp. Having quality interfacing and gain staging throughout the studio/stage is important for ensuring things work properly. Yes plugging a pedal or keyboard right into a Eurorack system will probably work but you'll be closer to the noise floor and further away from the expected levels and behaviours of modules. That can lead to a varied and unsatisfactory experience a lot of the time. I also wanted to dangle a microphone outside of my house and process some real world sounds to create a foley texture and alien landscape excited and led by the suburban environment."
