Quick note: The 5U he's referring to is the MOTM format. 5U is also commonly used to refer to the MU/ format. 5U refers to the height. MOTM has different horizontal spacing when it comes to the mounting screw holes and it uses it's own power connects. It's similar to eurorack and 3U referring to both the Doepfer and Analogue Systems formats. You can find a modular format chart posted here back in 2007, formats covered on wikipedia here, and info on the MOTM format on Synthesis Technologies site here.

Elektron Monomachine (drum synthesis) and Analog Keys

"I became frustrated with the Machinedrum's delay in mute/unmute - some say it's not there, but I don't have this problem with the Monomachine - and then I remembered how amazing the Monomachine is as a drum machine, and then just had fun with it."

2 AFM elements ! Introduces the Q155 Curver, VC Inverter, Slope Detector, VCA

Published on Jul 23, 2019 synthesizersdotcom

"The Q155 provides a collection of four useful and experimental processing functions to manipulate control voltages and audio, all packaged in a single-wide module.

The Curver section bends signals into new shapes providing new modulation possibilities and changes harmonics in audio waveforms. Curve a triangle wave into a smooth sine or a peaky wave with high-frequency harmonics. Convert standard envelope attacks into a linear shape and bend pitch voltages into obscurity. Signal curving can be performed manually with the knob or via control voltage. The control voltage input has a built-in inverting attenuator.

The Inverter section provides control of a signal's polarity via voltage control. This works with audio and control to mangle sounds and sequences in surprising and unexpected ways.

The Slope Detector section produces a digital output indicating the slope of a waveform. When the waveform is rising the output is positive, when falling the output is zero. What you do with that output is up to you - control a filter, trigger one envelope from another, control LFO modulation, etc.

The bottom section of the Q155 is a simple and useful VCA to control the amplitude of a signal under voltage control. When CV=0 volts the output is off, when CV=5 volts the output is full on. Like patch cables, you can never have enough VCAs.

$206.00 Special Pre-Order Price: $185.00 USD

PJ Wrote: The curver section sort of acts like a filter and I'm enjoying the metallic sounds coming out of the VC inverter. Haven't figured out the slope detector yet. I need more VCAs!!"

Building the Perfect Eurorack Case (Part 1)

Published on Jul 23, 2019 LeoMakes

"I finally have the *PERFECT* case for my modular synth! It might not be or everyone but I love it.

Have you ever dreamed about having the perfect case for YOUR synth? What shape would it have? How many modules would it hold? And where would you put it?

In this video, I build my own Eurorack modular synthesizer case from scratch! I walk you through the problem I'm trying to solve, my constraints, and how I built this case for myself. I hope it will inspire some viewers to build your own!

Note: This has turned out to be a super-long video, so I split it up into two parts. I'll post part 2 as soon as I can.

"The analogue monosynth reborn

Nothing out there sounds this warm, fat and dirty. Bass Station II is our pure analogue monosynth. We based it on our classic Bass Station, then enhanced every area to make it even bigger, angrier and more versatile.
It has two tuneable oscillators, a sub-oscillator for enormous bass, plus noise and ring modulation. It also gives you two distinct analogue filter types: the classic multi-mode filter and a new acid filter, for a massive variation in sonic possibilities..."

Access Indigo 2 Redback SN IRBbUZPa8h8

via this auction

"It may sound like a venomous antipodean arachnid, and you may even find mention of it on the web (groan...) but this particular Redback is in fact a limited edition version of Access' Indigo 2 virtual analogue synthesizer. The differences between the Redback and regular Indigo 2 are purely cosmetic, with the additional “collectability factor” that every Redback sports the signatures of its creators, Guido Kirsch and Christoph Kemper. Instead of the standard Indigo silver body/blue lights colour scheme, the Redback is decorated in the same vampiric black livery and red illuminations as the Virus-C. Curiously, the back of the instrument is not red but black — however, the name does not refer to the rear panel. Look carefully around the Tempo LED, and if you get the angle of light just right, you will see a glossy black spider printed on the matt black panel. The red LED is on the back of the spider's abdomen — hence the arachnid moniker.

The release of the Redback also heralds the latest OS update, OS 6.0, for the Virus range of synths. The Virus operating system was last reviewed with the Virus-C, at which point it had reached version 5.0"

6X806 Drum Synth App for IOS next update demo

Published on Jul 23, 2019 BEATS N BOBS

"Here is a quick demo of the features for the new update (JULY 2019)

**** Big update with lots of new great useful features!****

*. Added parameter set for almost all knobs per step (manually or while sequence is playing)

Press P-Set to enable (flashing) Double tap P-Set to enter erase mode. Turning any dial will either set / lock that parameter to the currently selected or playing step on current track; or erase all parameter sets to all steps on current track. Colour of dial ring will be red when there is an active parameter on current step. You can clear all parameter sets for all active dials on the whole sequence using CLR params (in Edit Sequence).

*. Added 3 bars for total of 4 bars and 64 steps per track . The bar the track is currently playing within will be shown across the top row step LEDs. Choosing Bar 1-4 in Edit Step area, selects which bar to enter steps into.

*. Modified and reduced the gate time so if Gate mode on VCA is enabled, it's shorter and more noticeable for really short pulses of sounds.

*. iPad UI mode. If using iPad, you can choose to either use the new UI layout that removes sub menus and allows you to access more knobs at the same time for more hands-on control.

*. Changed Expand function so that it automatically extends length of track to 64 steps. This makes it easier to convert 4/16/32 steps to repeat to the rest of the bars so you can make subtle changes to the other bars, making your beats less repetitive. Example usage will be to make a 16 step beat, press Expand, select bars to edit beats.

*. Added a Beat click slaved to track 1. When ever a step is played on track 1, you can also have an extra drum attack to boost the overall drum impact. Just press the "Beat on 1" button

*. Updated AudioBus SDK to latest version.

*. Updated Ableton Link to latest version including new slave start/stop.

*. Updated step buttons to move away from the 909 look and more of a stylish 808 look.

*. Updated the look, hopefully you will agree its much nicer.

*. Updated core code.

*. Minor improvement to BPM when not using Link. Its still preferable to enable Link even if not syncing to other apps."

Fraser T Smith on the Korg prologue

Published on Jul 23, 2019 Korg

"We recently caught up with award winning producer Fraser T Smith at his London studio, where we talked KORG prologue and his current projects. Fraser recently co-produced South London rapper Dave’s UK Number 1 album Psychodrama, described by The Guardian as “the boldest and best British rap album in a generation”. Fraser explains how prologue was integrated into his work-flow and how prominent it was in that production. Smith is no stranger to producing a successful album and has co-written, produced and mixed seven number one singles and contributed to sixteen number one albums in the UK and US. Some of the singles he collaborated on include Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain", James Morrison's "Broken Strings", Tinchy Stryder's "Number 1" and Taio Cruz's "Break Your Heart". Smith also teamed up with Stormzy to produce his acclaimed debut number 1 album "Gang Signs & Prayer", which won best album at the 2018 Brit Awards. Earlier that year he'd produced 7 tracks on Kano's celebrated Made in the Manor album."
