meadowrock // sequoia

meadowrock // sequoia from ioflow on Vimeo.

"ambient performance for monome norns + modular synthesizer and rhodes loops.

music on the spot, perched atop a granite outcrop, enfolded by the wondrous natural beauty of a montane meadow. giant sequoias, shadowed ferns, tall pines, and bright sunlight.

four melodies--three from a modular synthesizer and one from a rhodes--were recorded into norns and loaded into mlr, performed on the grid. the melodies and swells are layered, relooped, redirected, scattered into fragments, and recombined in new ways. underneath it all is a field recording: audio from the meadow and surrounding forest.

modular patch notes: instruo cš-l & tòna oscillators running through an instruo tràigh filter; and antumbra knit oscillator in inharmonic string mode. envelopes from instruo cèis and 2hp adsr. the melodies were played live with keystep and squarp hermod as a midi-to-cv converter; captured by ableton live and exported as samples for norns + mlr.

recorded august 14, 2019."

Elby Designs - MonoWave(X) PPG-inspired Analogue synth with Wave-table Oscillators

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The MonoWave was the brainchild of UK electronics designer, Paula Maddox who wanted to build a synthesizer the roots of which lay in the PPG. Originally intended as a monophonic bass synthesizer, the MonoWave has uses beyond that.

The MonoWave is a wave-table synthesiser with 256 waves available for each of the two oscillators. Each oscillator also has a sub-oscillator. The filter is a copy of the Moog filter, there are separate envelope generators for the filter and amplifier, and a simple LFO. The panel is very 'retro' and 'traditional' with knobs for every function and a simple display. Internally, the circuitry is all analogue (except for the digital circuitry used in the oscillators).... no wimpy DSP thank you very much - this is a 'real' synth!!"

Soulsby Odytron limited edition Atmegatron 8-bit synth SN 065 of 150

"Soulsby Odytron limited edition Atmegatron 8-bit synth - Complete and Pristine!. Comes with power, programmer cable, overlays, quickstart guide and manual. Super clean and in perfect working order.

The Odytron is a limited edition Atmegatron, pre-loaded with the brand new Odytron software and factory presets, as well as having unique Odytron paintwork. Only 150 units have been manufactured (see photos - this is unit 65 of 150).

The Odytron software simulates the specification of a classic analogue synth but in an 8-bit environment. The result is a fascinating combination of analogue warmth and 8-bit grit. Features include: 2 independent oscillators (duophonic), 2 filter algorithms + bypass, 2 envelopes, LFO, ring mod, wave sync and numerous modulation methods.Despite the sound being radically different to the original Atmegatron software, the Odytron is 100% Atmegatron compatible and comes bundled with 3 overlays and a programmer cable. This means that it is essentially 4 synths for the price of one. The overlays for the alternative synth engines are: Atmegatron (the classic software), Atmegadrum (drum machine) & Delayertron (delay effects synth)."

Bubble Bobble - Main Theme - Played on a real Atari Pokey Chip (C012294)

Published on Aug 18, 2019 MrCaliforniaD

"The slightly detuned sound is part of the experience."

From Wikipedia:
"The Pot Keyboard Integrated Circuit (POKEY) is a digital I/O chip designed for the Atari 8-bit family of home computers and found in Atari arcade games of the 1980s. POKEY combines functions for sampling (ADC) potentiometers (such as game paddles) and scan matrices of switches (such as a computer keyboard) as well as sound generation. It produces four voices of distinctive square wave sound, either as clear tones or modified with a number of distortion settings. POKEY chips are used for audio in many arcade games including Centipede, Missile Command, Asteroids Deluxe, and Gauntlet. Some of Atari's arcade systems use multi-core versions with 2 or 4 POKEY chips in a single package for more sound voices. The Atari 7800 console allows a game cartridge to contain a POKEY, providing better sound than the system's audio chip. Only two licensed games make use of this: the ports of Ballblazer and Commando."

OP-Z By The River

"A little glitchy arpeggio sketch by the river. All sounds are coming from the OP-Z, while the iPhone is used for recording over USB and „finalizing“ the track a bit in post. Apps in use are: AUM, Bleassdelay, FAC Bandit and EOS2. Edited with LumaFusion. Just a short little sketch but i hope you enjoy nonetheless!"

Volca Drum with an Elektron Sequencer 🤔

Published on Aug 18, 2019 Oscillator Sink

"In my opinion the Volca Drum has the best sequencer in the Volca range right now. It clearly draws some inspiration from a certain Swedish company! Obviously though, at the Volca price point we can't expect a full Elektron style sequencer...

But what if the Volca drum *did* have a full Elektron sequencer?

In this jam everything you hear (including the delay effect) is coming direct from the Volca Drum, but it's being sequenced by my trusty Elektron Digitakt. There's a bunch of MIDI CC parameter-locking and LFO-ing going on, as well as plenty of conditional trigs. The Volca Drum seems to enjoy the experience!"
