Roland Promars (MRS-2), fully serviced, with IO MIDI

"This was recently gone over by a reputable tech here in Philly (Belltone): they recapped the power supply, made it US-voltage compaitble, and fully calibrated it. The previous owner installed the IO midi interface, and this comes with the rather rare original hard case! It spent most of its like in the hands of a collector, and it shows! Everything is working 100% and this is ready to rock your world.

The Promars is hugely underrated and I would argue it's one of Roland's best monosynths--it's the only one they made that has two oscillators AND two sub-oscillators! It captures the patch-saving technology of the late-70s, while retaining that classic Roland tone."

Kawai SX240 8 Voice 2 DCO Synth w/ 1 Sub SSM Filters Split/Layer/Midi & Tauntek OS

"Straight to the point - it has just 1 functional issue (which for a gear perfectionist like myself makes me crazy). Absolutely everything works fantastic - it is in excellent condition and extremely well serviced. In all of the regular voice modes all 8 voices/2 OSC/Sub perform wonderfully - as designed. As do all buttons, knobs, display, outputs. But - when you switch to layered/split mode it drops a voice. 7 sound. All 8 sound in regular mode - 7 in layer/split. To be honest - it is quite usable regardless and in the mix it is not going to be noticeable. But if you are super-particular about perfect equipment and something like this would just bug you (like it does me) - it isn't the synth for you.

Apart from this the SX-240 is a great sounding instrument that bridges the pre-80's and 80's sound nicely. Though it has SSM filters and an ensemble effect it is not a PolySix, and it's definitely not a Juno - it truly sits in it's own pocket. Very musical. Not many 8 voice analog polys out there - to begin with - and fewer that can layer and split. Has the "ensemble" effect, HPF, Ring Mod, Patch storage. Etc Etc. And Tauntek OS increases midi control." "Trying out the Kilpatrick Audio Phenol modular synthesizer. READ BELOW!

♥ SUPPORT: http://bit.ly/ttnm-support

This is a melodic FM patch without any external control inputs. So no MIDI sequencing, etc.

Patch document:

The Phenol is a self-contained modular synth, using the fun banana patch cables to connect its built-in modules. It features a unique dual envelope section (one of which acts as an arpeggiator in this video), a random generator, lo-fi delay and of course VCOs, Filters, VCAs, and more, forming a very complete synthesizer package."

Rucci Handmade 8-Bit Power Synth, Maximal Drone And 16 Step Sequencer

Published on Sep 27, 2019 Perfect Circuit

"Rucci Electronics has an interesting take on compact pedal format synthesizers. The have both 8-Bit digital synths and rich drone synths with tons of oscillators and a filter. Their 16 step sequencer has multiple sequencer modes that can produce more complex results than most analog style sequencers.

The 8-Bit Power Synth has a built in keyboard as well as CV input. It can play back single notes or arpeggiated sequences the way retro video games did, and also has a drum loop mode. The Maximal Drone has six oscillators for creating incredibly thick drone sounds. The CV input on it sags the voltage to the circuit, changing the pitch as well as the sound of the synth."

Submitting Music to MATRIXSYNTH

Just a note on general music posts, as I've been getting a few requests for them lately. Please note the site is primarily about showcasing specific synths. You should notice that most music featured on the site showcases specific gear that you can get a feel for. You can find the posting guidelines anytime via the submit post link in the Useful Links section on the top right of the site. You might be wondering then, why does some general synth music not showcasing specific gear get featured? The reason would be to feature some of the music by supporters of the site. Every single post you see on the site goes up by hand. It might not seem like it, but it is work. The site averages 30 - 50 posts a day, seven days a week. Since the launch of the site, 184,937 posts including this one, have gone up by hand. There has been only one day without a post back in the beginning when I had no idea there would be something to post every single day. That day was a day without wireless...

Panoptigan Celeste Improvisation

Published on Sep 27, 2019

"A short improvisation using the Panoptigan and the Optigan Celeste disc.

The Panoptigan is a modern instrument designed by Quilter Labs to play Optigan, Orchestron and Panoptigan discs.
Just out of the frame the left, the keys on the MIDI keyboard control the loops that would have been on the "chord buttons" of the Optigan.

On the right side of the keyboard, the keys control the "special effect" buttons of the Optigan. There are also keys that control start/stop of the disc, and forward/reverse. In between is Orchestron cello.

I start the piece with the disc playing backwards, then switch to forwards.

No external audio processing added (though the Panoptigan has some great built-in effects).

Processing Drum Machines with a 70s Boss KM-60 Mixer

Published on Sep 27, 2019 Alex Ball

"A little spin through a Boss KM-60 from 1979. Like many pieces from this era, people have subsequently found uses for them that weren’t what they were originally intended for.

In the case of the KM-60, it’s since found a second life as a device for processing and mangling drums, which I’m demonstrating here.

I particularly liked what it did to a TR-707 with a TB-303 in tow.

Apologies for the voice sound quality in places, I was experimenting with a lapel mic for the first time and inadvertently had a setting on it that added an extreme (and horrible) digital compressor/limiter. I couldn’t be bothered to re-record the entire thing all over again, so it is what it is. Sorry.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the demo and thanks for watching."

Erica Synths EMS SYNTHI Inspired SYNTRX

"Since its beginnings Erica Synths has promoted experimental electronic music and has developed instruments that enable musicians to explore it.

When it comes to standalone instruments, we think, one of most encouraging instruments in experimental music was Synthi AKS, so we teamed up with engineers from Riga Technical University to develop a synthesizer with a user interface inspired by Synthi AKS.

SYNTRX [sintrex] is developed from scratch all analogue synthesizer (no part of schematics is cloned from Synthi AKS) with digitally controlled patch matrix. Unlike most of patch matrixes around, that mechanically connect signals, our 16x16 matrix utilizes 32 (!!!) 8 channel analogue switch ICs AS16M1 (made in Latvia, Alfa RPAR) and is a mixer/buffered multiple with 3 level attenuation (gain 1, 0,6 and 0,3) in connection points. It has 256 patch memory, automatic patch switching in performance mode or via MIDI messages.

SYNTRX has 3 highly accurate VCOs that track great over 8 octaves, noise generator with “colour” filter, resonant VCF, ring modulator, spring reverb, looping envelope generator, joystick controller, input amplifier with adjustable gain for microphone to line level signals, 3 VCAs, output signal filter, analogue CV/audio signal level indicator and built in speakers. Extra features, not found on Synthi AKS, are Sample & Hold circuit with individual clock, octave switch for VCO1, synchronization of VCO2, AD mode on the envelope generator, as well as MIDI that accepts CV, Gate, Modulation wheel messages and program change messages for the matrix control. The SYNTRX comes in aluminium enclosure with ash tree side panels.

We believe, it will inspire users to explore the space and travel to previously undiscovered audible realms.

Limited run of SYNTRX will be available at the end of 2019 priced at 2500EUR (VAT excluded) .

"Up for sale is rare Soviet vintage analog electronic drum machine & synthesizer "RMIF ELSITA". It is a powerfull 4 channel analog drum synthesizer, produced in the USSR in 1980s. It has 4 identical channels (which can be used & edited freely). On every channel you can change: trigger signal sensitivity, tone, attack, release, tone\noise balance, filter, volume level. Each channel has trigger Input on a standart 1/4 mono Jack for 4 pads. It can be triggered from any drum pads like classic Simmons or modern Roland\Yamaha or any audio source - line outs of the drum machine or soundcard or CV Gate etc. The module has Audio Output (1/4 Jack) and Headphone Output (1/4 Jack). This is an armoured antitank piece of gear and the sound it produces is very unique! Can synthesize huge pallete of sounds - from modern punchy BD & SD to classic 808 or 909 subs or claps e.t.c.

"Up for grabs is a super ultra rare bend by the infamous Tablebeast.

To my knowledge he only did twp bends on this particular Casio model and the other keyboard went to Trent Reznor's studio during the With Teeth sessions, or at least that is the story Jesse Savage told me. He sent this to me as part reparations for a custom amp project that went seriously wrong (ie never delivered).

"Presented here is the Tablebeast Modified Casio SK-1, model TB-SK01 mk II. Please be sure to note these keyboards are modified by hand one at a time and are MADE TO ORDER by the now defunct and infamous Tablebeast of NIN fame. O

From an old Tablebeast posting:

Of course this new mkII model still has my original bending innovation, the 16 point RCA mod patchbay, but now it also has newly researched and revised mod points. In addition to that, other new mods include a filter switch that that bypasses the Casio filters and lets through a lot more high and low frequency content. This really opens up the sound, especially under mod and works great especially if you want to filter it on your own. I have also added a soft reset switch which is great for resetting the SK-1 quickly without having to turn it off completely and losing the sample in memory. There is also an advanced pitch control circuit with a built-in bypass switch and body contact for manual pitch adjustment. I have upgraded pretty much every part and aspect of my previous mk I mod plus I have done what no other SK-1 benders on ebay do: I perform a full recap of the SK-1's electrolytic capacitors. I recap the SK-1 with high quality Nichicon audio grade electrolytic capacitors for long life, lowered noise floor, and a better overall tone. The recapping really makes a significant sonic difference. It also extends the life of the SK-1 for another couple of decades as electrolytic capacitors start to go bad after about 20 years or so. Considering these guys were originally made in the 80's, without the recap the clock would be ticking on these vital parts."

Ja Bitte - Moog Matriarch and DFAM Jam #2

This features one take of the Matriarch playing an arpeggio and clocking the DFAM, then three additional takes of the Matriarch layered on, two doing leads and one which is just doing a bass drone created from using the delay just by itself (yes, all oscillators turned down to zero!). The delay is feeding back on the self-noise caused by playing a fast arpeggio of just the envelope click."
