"The TG33 sound module is a slightly enhanced key-less version of the SY22. It is a digital synthesizer that employs frequency modulation (FM) synthesis combined with low-fi (12-bit) AWM ROM samples. However, this machine is not low quality (especially for the electronica-oriented musician). Its preset sounds are a bit thin, however using the joystick controller you can manipulate and combine the 12-bit samples with the any of the 256 FM vector voices. This gives it a range of tone and sound that is as dynamic and mysterious as other vector synths such as the Korg Wavestation and ProphetVS.

Also available is a drum kit, effects, 16-part multitimbrality for layering sounds and 32 note polyphony! Definitely a powerful little beast that can create pretty nice sounds with lots of motion and character. With its wide range of sonic possibility, the TG33 has what it takes to create unique sounds that will keep you and you're music sounding a little different from the rest!"

All the sounds were made using only the Yamaha TG33 Tone Generator digital synthesizer, oh yeah! awesome "Dynamic Vector Synthesis" you can combine four voices of AWM ROM 12-bit samples and FM synthesis (2 Digital FM operators) processed with Reverb and Delay fully programmable, no external effects or processes were used, I sold this particular machine in 2016 I think and I always missed him, look at this shit, it looks like a video game console also"

Published on Apr 11, 2020 Superbooth Official

You'll be able to find SUPERBOOTH20 vids as they go up here on MATRIXSYNTH via the SUPERBOOTH20 label (also linked top left in red).

"The year 2020 without Superbooth in Berlin? There are many topics that are certainly more important right now. Nevertheless, we don't want to let the Superbooth days pass by. We invite everyone who wants to be there under our (virtual) roof - on April 23rd, for the Superbooth20 Home Edition.

Many of the artists who would have performed at SUPERBOOTH20 play exclusive short concerts and provide insights into their studios. HerrSchneider invites guests to his digital table and some exhibitors show – in self-made videos – what they would otherwise have presented in Berlin. Furthermore, our media partners will tell you about the specials they are planning. After all, there will be many new developments announced from the most diverse areas, which we are all very excited about.

With Superbooth20 Home Edition it is important for us to show that this unique community stands together and presents itself together even in difficult times. Without the help of many exhibitors and partners, this would not have been possible - we would like to thank you once again for your great support."

Electromotive - The Story of ARP Instruments

Published on Apr 11, 2020 Alex Ball

"Electromotive: The Story of ARP Instruments

Electromotive is the definitive documentary charting the rise and demise of one of the world’s most influential and pioneering synth companies. It dives deep into the world of ARP and their instruments, with fascinating insights from those involved, copious amounts of previously undocumented information, and then debunks many myths. A triumph, a true labour of love and essential viewing for any synth nerd.

Chris Macleod / GForce Software

//

This was a project that started in the spring of 2019 when I was loaned an ARP 2600. I knew little of the ARP story at the time, but having an amazing instrument to play with piqued my interest. Aware that Alan R Pearlman had passed only a couple of months earlier, I started looking into the articles and history and speaking to a couple of people about it on email. The way things unfolded from there is an entire story unto itself that I’ll probably tell in another video, but suffice to say I was staggered by the generosity, passion and kindness of countless people whose help meant that we were able to feature an amazing array of original instruments and interview many of the original people who were there (on and off camera).

Every single person who contributed to this film did it gratis so that you can enjoy this story free and without even having to sit through a single advert. Isn't that amazing?!

Dina Pearlman has been absolutely crucial to this project and has been industrious in opening doors for me this past year, to the point that we’ve joked she’s the patch chords between the modules. 

Please take a moment to check out the foundation and at the very least, give them a like, subscribe and comment of support.

Roland JD-990 "Vintage Soul" 64 Presets by Chronos

"#roland #jd990 #patches
The legendary Roland JD-990 synthesizer is back with its 27th birthday!

Buy soundset: https://sellfy.com/p/bsr4kq/

Back to 1993 JD was one of the most powerful digital modules with its flexible engine &
beautiful sound combined with great set of effects & drums.

Why its so cool?

Cause besides pianos, bells, cowbells & cheesy accordions presets - its capable to create great analog sounds, deepest ambient textures, great moving sequences.

Its like a hardware “Omnisphere” synth with huge effort.

So – what was our first desire when we get our black box?

To create our own soundset for the legend with modern approach ofcourse!

By Nick Klimenko aka Chronos, a creator of "Organica" for Waldorf Blofeld & "WS Universe" for Korg Wavestation.

"Vintage Soul Soundset" contains 64 modern & classic patches:
* Deepest ambient pads, space drones & tonal soundscapes
* Vintage analog-like basses & leads & strings
* Beautiful bells, plucks & rhytmic structures
* Classic re-creations: CS-80,Jupiter,Juno,Jx series.

Enjoy the sounds and rediscover your JD module with our soundset!

Our video demo shows almost half presets from soundset combined with beautiful nature, so take your time, breathing slowly, take your hands out of rewind button ;-)

p.s. NO EXPANSION NEEDED FOR THIS SET."

Sequential Circuits Prophet-5 Rev 3.2 - Sounds & Presets | Synth HQ DEMO & TUTORIAL

Published on Apr 11, 2020 Andy Whitmore

"Sequential Circuits Prophet-5 Rev 3.2 - Sounds & Presets | Synth HQ DEMO & TUTORIAL

Video demo of the Sequential Circuits Prophet-5, a classic analog polyphonic synthesizer.

Today we show some of the famous sound of the Prophet 5. Demo of our Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 Rev 3.2 Polyphonic Synthesizer In a lot of ways this needs no introduction. One of the most iconic poly synths ever made, and the first synth to offer true programmability with polyphonic architecture.

The Prophet 5 offers your basic amenities in a poly synth with 5 voices each with 2 VCO's, a low pass VCF, a VCA, two EG's, one LFO with multiple wave shapes available, with POLY MOD as the icing on the cake. This lets you make FM type sounds and is part of what makes the prophet 5 unique.

All music improvised for this demo is either live or running at 120bpm. The music is copyright free. My credit would be appreciated if used on your track!

Andy Whitmore started life as a top session keyboard player playing on over 50 hit records before turning his hand to music production. He went on to produce 14 top ten hits. He is a pro when it comes to synthesizers, and here explores the Prophet 5 as part of a brand new series.
One of the most iconic synthesizers ever, Andy’s experience with this classic dates back to the mid-‘90s, and he discusses the basics in his exploration of what makes the Prophet so great.

OBERHEIM XPANDER - Sounds & Presets | Synth HQ DEMO & TUTORIAL

Published on Apr 11, 2020 Andy Whitmore

Not sure why he compares it to the DX7 at the start, or why he calls it additive synthesis? You can enable the individual waveforms for each oscillator but that's not really additive synthesis. The Xpander and Matrix-12 are subtractive analog synths. On an additive synth like the Kawai K5 and K5000 series you typically add harmonics to make sounds.

"Oberheim Xpander analog synth demo, featuring various sounds & presets.

The Oberheim Xpander is a polyphonic analog synthesizer manufactured from 1984-1988, and is essentially a 6-voice desktop version of the Matrix-12. The Oberheim Xpander features 2 oscilllators per voice, linear FM, 5 LFOs, 15-mode filter, lag processor, 3 tracking generators, a ramp processor, 5 ADSR envelopes, CV/Gate to MIDI converter and more.

The Oberheim Xpander also features an extensive modulation matrix that allows for multiple sources and destinations to be routed accordingly. In addition, each of the six voices are completely independent, and can be configured to create a different timbre for each. There are also 6 separate audio outputs for the 6 voices. The Oberheim Xpander is a flexible, powerful and versatile analog synth with extensive digital control, allowing for the creation of all types of sounds - pads, textures, drones, leads, basses and a variety of experimental tones. It can store up to 100 patches and is considered one of the most flexible early analogs in terms of signal routing and modulation capabilities (outside of modular). The Oberheim Xpander (and Matrix-12) are not found for sale very often and often command high prices on the second hand market. They are a testament to Oberheim's desire to push the envelope forward in terms of features and flexibility within the realm of analog synthesis.

All music improvised for this demo is either live or running at 120bpm. The music is copyright free. My credit would be appreciated if used on your track!

Roland Jupiter-4 Vintage 1979 Sounds & Presets | HQ DEMO & TUTORIAL

Published on Apr 11, 2020 Andy Whitmore

"This video demonstrates the sound and features of the Roland Jupiter-4 analog synthesizer. Enjoy!

The Roland Jupiter-4 is a very strong, agressive, massive, but also sweet sounding synth. The sound is really incredible for only one VCO with one Sub-VCO. In this this Demo you will listen to this wide range of sounds.

The Roland JP-4 came out 1978, mine is from Nov. 1979 with the later filter board.

The great features of the JP-4 are:
- extremely fast envelopes
- ultra fast LFO and also slow LFO to get FM sounds and very slow filter sweeps as well
- fantastic sounding filter with ultra fat and sweet self resonance
- stereo chorus, not so strong like in the Juno 6/60, but very musical
- nice arpeggiator with triggering by a sequencer or drum machine
- random S/H filter modulation
- fantastic versatile bender board
- you can trim the 4 voices and slightly detune them on the back of the unit to achieve a really fat sound
- polyphonic portamento

ARP ODYSSEY MKIII Analog Synthesizer Vintage 1972 Sounds | HQ DEMO & TUTORIAL

Published on Apr 11, 2020 Andy Whitmore

Update: note the video does feature the later model, so there are no 1972 sounds in this video. See the comments in this post for some additional info.

"The ARP Odyssey is a classic monophonic / duophonic synthesizer. It came out 1972 and was the competitor of the Minimoog. It can be seen as a cutdown version of the ARP 2600 - although some features where added - the highpass filter and the oscillator synchronisation for example.
It has the best sync-lead-sounds I ever heard from a synthesizer! The Odyssey is a real classic - and it sounds classic!

The ARP has a lot of features, so it is very flexible: 2 oscillators (VCO 2 can be used as a second LFO), VCO synchronisation, 2 filters (resonant lowpass & non-resonant highpass), ring modulator, sample & hold, noise generator (white & pink noise), 1 LFO, 2 envelopes (ADSR and AR).

There were three versions of the Odyssey. In my video you see an ARP Odyssey MK III, which has the CV/gate jacks - and an external signal input.

The ARP Odyssey was used by many prominent musicians: Klaus Schulze, Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, Herbie Hancock, Gary Numan, Pink Floyd, ABBA, Chick Corea, Tony Banks (Genesis), the Carpenters...

Andy Whitmore started life as a top session keyboard player playing on over 50 hit records before turning his hand to music production. He went on to produce 14 top ten hits. He is a pro when it comes to synthesizers, and here explores the ARP Odyssey as part of a brand new series.

"Moog Minimoog Analog Synthesizer (1978)

The demo video shows some famous sound patches from the original Minimoog used by Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman and other guys.

The Minimoog Model D. This is the synth that started it all; it brought synthesis out of the laboratory and onto the stage, giving performing musicians access to the iconic synths sounds we know and love today. You’ve undoubtedly heard this classic three-oscillator monophonic synth, although you may not be aware of it.

Minimoog Model D Reissue – 2016 - Sounds | Synth HQ DEMO & TUTORIAL

Published on Apr 11, 2020 Andy Whitmore

"Everyone says it, but it's true. This is the finest synthesizer ever built. As the LFO Rate knob by the pitch/mod wheels hints, this is the 2016 reissue Model D. The mother of all synths really doesn't need any introduction. You already know the sound so I didn't get too crazy with this video. By no means is this a complex synth, but like a Fender Precision bass, it does what it does extremely well. It simply has a thickness and warmth that few others can touch. R.I.P. Dr. Bob Moog.

What sets this synth apart from the vintage Minimoog is the Midi Implementation which is totally up to date & makes this a much more useable synth in the studio.
One issue with the Vintage Moog is that the midi only goes down to C1 – so to get lower notes through midi – I used to pitch bend the synth down 4 semi tones – then put a transpose on the computer & re-tune it – what a faff!!!"

"This synth for me has been the biggest surprise. I don’t use it much as I have so many 'superior' synths – but in fact it blew me away. The sound is awesome – top quality – classic – such an easy synth to program & sounds great in a finished mix.

Vintage synth demo by Andy Whitmore, Roland SH-101 Analog Synthesizer from the year 1983 The SH-101 is a very nice synth with a great analog sound. The sound is deep and powerful. The SH-101 is perfect for very nice bass and lead sounds. The internal step-sequencer is pure fun.
