Sequential Circuits Prophet VS Rack SN 0244 w/ Stereoping VS Controller & Manuals

via SYNTH CITY Reverb

Note auction links are affiliate links. See the site's privacy policy for more info.

"The Prophet VS uses Vector Synthesis as its revolutionary new means of sound creation. It uses a total of four oscillators per voice with 127 waveforms (32 user) and dynamic waveform crossfading via the joystick. This was Sequential's first digital synth, and it was also their final synth unfortunately.

Condition:

Overall the VS is in good cosmetic condition, top panel shows heavy wear (scratches and dents) from being in and out of racks over the years, the top cavity plate opens with no trouble.

Currently loaded with OS 1.1, a few of the buttons are sticky from time to time, but all functions perform as expected.

The previous owner mentioned that one of the CEM5530's was replaced. The repair looks to have been performed by John Leimseider (RIP) based upon the SSM chips & the fact that it's on a standoff, however we cannot confirm this. Pro job to say the least.

Everything else is original, so that means the screen is blue and weird to read at certain angles (most folks replace with an OLED) and the power supply hums (you can buy modern replacements for around $350.)

The Stereoping VS Controller connects via MIDI and allows you to control most parameters remotely, works like a charm.

Original VS and VS Controller manuals are included."

"This unit was disassembled, cleaned inside and out, meticulously serviced, with some future-proofing measures and fully and repeatedly tested by vintage synth specialists with decades of experience (us). This process required 22 hours of skilled labor. The result is an ARP 2601 that is much better than the rest. Don't settle for less / get what you pay for.

This unit is working perfect, is ready to play, and will hopefully outlast all others."

You can add up to 3 more E-MU if you wish to expand the sound pallet. Sorry, no returns due to the massive size and weight of this item. BOOMSTAR SE80 SKETCH 06

video upload by Mason Chrysler

"Fun sketch with the Studio Electronics Boomstar SE80, a mono synth with filters inspired by the iconic Yamaha CS-80. I love this synth. It's truly magical and unpredictable in ways at times with essentially an endless palette of analog tone in front of you.. but it is also just so easy to dial in sounds with the plethora of knobs and switches packed in. And I LOVE the formant sounds you can coax out of it.. My only mono now, no regrets.. The interface feels very natural and inviting. I have way too many photos of patches on my phone that I still need to take the time to convert into a PDF book with the proper patch sheet file from SE. Anyway - SE80 recorded into Logic. Some (software) FX and processing applied etc etc etc. All sounds SE80 except for the backing choir I felt compelled to add and keep in (8DIO Requiem ). Thanks for listening! I hope this inspires you in any sort of way."

Introducing Capt'n BIG-O and Mr. Phil Ter by Cre8audio

video upload by Patchwerks Seattle

In this video resident expert Matthew Piecora (aka EZBOT) shares Cre8audio's newest modules: Capt 'n BIG-O and Mr. Phil Ter. Capt'n BIG-O is a fully analog oscillator built from the ground up to sound uniquely warm and huge. The oscillator also sports a wavefolder and a drive circuit, both of which you can route external signals into. Mr Phil Ter is a classic transistor ladder filter with a built in VCA and envelope generator. Along with these two new modules Cre8audio also released a two tier all wood rack stand for their popular Nifty Cases.

Mr. Phil Ter introduction, feature overview, and noise
video upload by Cre8audio

"What if your filter module also had a VCA and an envelope generator? Would a name like Mr. Phil Ter be a good name for it? Probably not right? Well, we at Cre8audio never claimed to be marketing geniuses (except for our jerk marketing person, but we rarely listen to them).

Anyway, check out Mr. Phil Ter, or 'Phil' as we affectionately call it. It's 12hp of filter, VCA, and envelope generator for all your sound manipulation needs."

Sequential Pro 3 Patch Morphing Demo

video upload by Synthetic World 859

"This is a little jam utilizing the patch morphing feature of the brand new OS 1.2.0.0. I mostly used it to change the delay time, feedback, and reverb predelay, but it also brings the mixer section back home.

I used two square wave LFOs to create arp-like effects within the sequence controlled by the mod wheel. The touch slider affects the noise level, filter cutoff, filter drive, filter envelope release, and more tuning from the square LFOs.

Overall this jam felt a lot like what I do with my modular systems, which is pretty amazing considering it's 'just a mono.' It's the combination of great bones-basic sound, a strong sequencer, modular-level modulation matrix, lovely FX, and enough performance controls to get into a flow.

The update also introduced some clicking into the signal path when some of the FX are applied. This issue was basically immediately fixed in OS 1.2.0.2 (released only a couple hours after 1.2.0.0), but I made this video before downloading the update and...call me crazy but I think the clicks added a nice little bit of dimension here, so I'll take it."

Great Synth Mysteries Ep. 4: Whatever Happened to the LinnDrum II

video upload by Noir Et Blanc Vie

"So, it's been over 2 years since I completed an episode of Great Synth Mysteries. Cool. Well, I honestly thought about this for at least a year, really hard to top that Jexus two parter ya know. The reason this story worked was because I was lucky enough to find a solid storyline using Internet Wayback Machine, so the research took FOREVER. (Plus, new interviews gave me better insights) I'll probably do 1 of these a year going forward, but these are by far my favorites. I'm a story teller, and this (while it takes sometimes a dang year) is the ultimate rush for brain like mine who needs to tell a compelling story. I hope you enjoy it, and I thank everyone who deals with all my low effort content in the meantime lol

Utopia Theme Sequence

video upload by boxoftextures

"When I was a kid growing up in New York City in the early 1970s I would listen to WNEW-FM all the time, but especially from 10pm to 2am when Allison Steele, the Night Bird, was on the air. WNEW was a progressive rock station, not really the same meaning as today's term 'prog rock,' but more that the DJs played what they wanted with no playlists. And one night in 1974 Allison Steele played a song from a new band I'd never heard of before, Todd Rundgren's Utopia. I was 14, and I was instantly hooked. The song was over 14 minutes long, and was from a live show. I was heavily into keyboards and they had three keyboard players, one with a giant modular. The bass and drums were incredibly tight. And on top of that was Todd Rundgren, abandoning his pop stylings and going full on prog. And then, after being entranced through the first half of the tune, they all stopped, and the sequencer started up. That was it for me. Instant favorite, and started me down the path to synthesizers. Where I still am today.

So that sequence has pretty much always been in my head, and in a way influenced my entire life. It was life-changing for me. And so here it is, recreated. A 'simple' six-note sequence, but super fast, and constantly shifting. Six notes, but that section of the song is in 4/4. Except that the main lines are on the ones but the answering lines start on the 3 before the one beat. So you have six against four, and your four is being interrupted by the answering refrain. You're constantly off balance, but then again things are also constantly being resolved. And then they all pause, back at the sequence, and he rips into the most amazing guitar solo I've ever heard. The whole thing is genius. Todd Rundgren, perhaps at his peak.

KAWAI POP SYNTH SOUND MODULE - PHm | Can You Make a 80s Hit Song With Only a Dirt Cheap Synth?

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
video upload by Espen Kraft

"Is it possible to make catchy retro synthpop music with only a cheap synth module from the late 80s? Does gear really matters if the song is strong enough to begin with? You decide!

The Kawai PHm 'the pop module' from 1989. A non-GM module of the PH50. 200 presets which sounds like down-sampled versions of the Kawai K1 sounds.

I find this module highly capable of making gritty, crunchy and beautiful sounds and with a bit of (lots actually) compression, EQ, reverb and arranging I think this sounds perfect for this song. I wouldn't want to change out one single sound."

I somehow missed this one; spotted it in the following listing:
