Percussa SSP Makes a Comeback

via Percussa

"Bert here, founder of Percussa. Our SSP eurorack module sold out a while ago, in the middle of the global supply chain crisis and chip shortage, which affected a lot of other eurorack brands, sadly.

Since then we've had to pause production of the SSP, due to the shortage of chips and the insane rise of component and manufacturing costs. Things now seem to have improved, and we are now planning another production run of the SSP.

We are organizing a pre-sale! One of our dealers, Perfect Circuit, is participating in the pre-sale event. So if you want an SSP, get your order in! Once the units are sold out, it will be a while before we do another run. You can place your order for an SSP through our website at https://www.percussa.com/pricing, or through Perfect Circuit's website at https://www.perfectcircuit.com/percussa-ssp.html"

MiniMod 6U Full System 'Berlin School' style performance - Melodic Eurorack Modular - AJH Synth

video upload by AJH Synth Official

"2-Voice 'Berlin school'-style performance, and first of a few videos featuring the same module lineup from the new MiniMod 6U Full System, now available to purchase from https://ajhsynth.com/Minimod.html, pre-installed in a powered case. This is an example of what is possible using just single, modest-sized case, packed with an incredibly flexible, vintage-voiced, fully analogue, Eurorack modular synthesizer.

Here the synth is configured as two operate voices - a 2 VCO drone synth, and a single VCO with 2 sub oscillators lead synth. It uses all the modules from the Minimoog-based part of the system, along with the Gemini 2412 SEM-based dual VCF, and the indispensable Ring SM mixer, sub-bass generator and ring modulator.

There's a patch sheet/diagram at the end of the video, along with patch notes and link to the patch PDF at the bottom of this description.

The AJH SYNTH Eurorack range consists of high-end modules, all hand-made in the UK, most of which are based on classic, vintage designs, authentically recreating the circuitry of much sought-after analogue instruments and technologies of the past, whilst greatly expanding them, and bringing them to modern Eurorack levels of convenience, limitless flexibility, and reliability.

"Outer space in a briefcase. That is the gist of the legendary Synthi series. The Synthi is capable of soft drifting lead lines, abstract snarling modulation, clean warm textures and anything in between. This is the real deal. Brian Eno, Pink Floyd, Stereolab, Yes, Aphex Twin, Autechre, Jean-Michel Jarre, Astral Projection, Vince Clarke, The Who, Todd Rundgren, Recoil, Freddy Fresh and Ultravox are some artist known for using the Synthi series just to name a few."

"The song that gives the title to this first disc of electronic music (at the time, it was also called electro-acoustic)."

via Wikipedia:

"Adrian-Floru Enescu (31 March 1948 – 19 August 2016) was a Romanian composer of film soundtracks and contemporary music.

As an individual musician, he also pioneered the local electronic scene during the 1970s and 1980s. He graduated from the 'Ciprian Porumbescu' Music Conservatory in Bucharest, following the composition class of Aurel Stroe and Alexandru Pascanu in harmony.

Among his list of accomplishments are music for ballet in Italy, China and Australia, music for theater in Romania, Holland, Belgium, Japan, Australia, Canada, Colombia, and Costa Rica."

Arps and acid with Midicake ARP, Arturia Minifreak, TT-303, Dreadbox Erebus, Roland TR-06, Meris LVX

video upload by Jay Hosking

"A live, semi-improvised synthesizer jam performed entirely on hardware.

Important note: Midicake sent me over the ARP for free. I rarely get free gear, though I'm very grateful when it happens. There was no expectation for me to put it in a video, and no request from Midicake other than to share my thoughts with them. That said, I really enjoyed using it and I'll be keeping it around, as it strikes a nice balance between the "plug-and-pretty" of the NDLR and the "depth and detail" of a traditional sequencer. I've still got plenty to explore with it. Thanks, Chris!

I started with the ARP, because I wanted to see what it could do. I didn't want to overload the table at first, so I took out the Minifreak, which has voices to spare. Very quickly I was creating arpeggios and sequencing lines I really liked, and easily able to customize the lines to what I was looking for, from rhythms to polymetrics to inversions etc. I started with just standard major and minor chords, but it was extremely easy to customize the chords on the eight chord buttons once I wanted some 7ths and 6ths. And to have a chord sequencer built in was extremely helpful, as it reduced the amount of gear I needed on the table.

Once I had the bones of the song structure, I filled out some more parts, with Erebus on bass and the TR-06 on drums. Finally, I felt it needed something a little gnarlier around the interlude, and luckily I'd just picked up the awesome 303 clone from Cyclone Analogic. Once that was in place, it was just a matter of shaping the song through performance parameters. The final result is pretty cool, and adds some tones, timbres, and textures I haven't been getting as much these days.

Thanks for listening.

Midicake ARP - most sequencing (i.e. for Minifreak and Erebus)
Arturia Minifreak - three synth lines
Dreadbox Erebus - bass synth
Cyclone Analogic Bass Bot TT-303 - acid bass (using its own sequence)
Meris LVX - drive and delay for TT-303
Kenton MIDI Thru - MIDI splitter/thru box"

Ensoniq ESQ-1 new patch bank out now!

video upload by Espen Kraft

"Compatible with Ensoniq ESQ-1 / ESQ-M /SQ-80 and all emulations that can import original ESQ sysex patches. This pack has 40 brand new patches.

Get it here:
https://thepatchbay.io/product/ensoni...
https://sound7.co.uk/products/ensoniq...

Brass, strings, pads, keys, synths, bass and bells. All ready to go into your own music. These are sounds tailored for pop, synthwave, Italo Disco and Soundtracks. These are not particularly tailored for industrial- or darker experimental electronic music.

The download files is in sysex format and must be imported to your own hardware synth from a computer with a sysex transfer program, through your midi interface, and into your synth.
On an emulation you can just load the sysex file internally in your computer.

These patches uses the factory waveforms. Not any hidden or custom waveforms.
In the demo I use a lot of external reverb and delay. Some chorus as well. Necessary on these old synths. I've never been fan of showing off neither patches, nor waveforms dry. Except for maybe bass sounds.

The Ensoniq ESQ-1 from 1986 is on of those classic hybrid synths from the 80s. It has digitally stored waveforms and analog filters.
The ESQ-1 was the first synth of many aspiring synth people and it still holds a strong nostalgic grip on most of us. And it's still very much alive. It has a certain sound that many likes.

The patches are the copyright of Espen Kraft and can be used in any commercial production without limitations. The patches cannot be resold or assembled into any other collection- or distribution online, or otherwise."

Today (7/22/23), when I made this track - was the 13th Anniversary of my Dad's death. My mom and I talked at length today about it. It's crazy to think about all the things I remember from that day and from the funeral - from watching his last breath to sitting in silence with my mom after everyone left after the funeral. We were just sitting there and it almost felt like it never happened. It was so strange.

13 years. It just kind of doesn't feel like the movement of time makes any sense. Those things feel like a few weeks ago, I have very vivid memories about them. But I don't actually remember things that happened a few weeks ago, normally. So odd what can stick in your head and why it does.

It certainly has been a wild ride this last month, my wife losing her job, our dogs fighting so bad that it required a $1200 emergency vet visit, and more.

And in my studio I've just not had much success. Moving gear around, hating everything I write. I think 'maybe I just need it set up like this...' and a few days later I tear it down too. I used to do so much more, but I only had a few things. I expect 2012 results in 2023 - where I didn't have a family, kids, dogs, a house, a career... I am not complaining that I have them, but my expectations of what I'm capable of haven't changed, even though everything else has.

Now - I'm also stuck with so much gear I don't even like... Jupiter 6, Poly Evolver, JD800... they're cool, but do they add anything, like REALLY add anything to what I already have? No. They don't. The day I got the Prophet 10 in my studio was the day my music suffered. It was just a big, big synth that didn't take me where I wanted. I still have it, but even that is among the synths I'm not completely fond of, but feel like I should be. I think it's mostly in how much space some of these things take up relative to how much space I actually have. I sometimes think if I had more room, I'd make better use of them, but I don't actually think that's true. I just think I'd have more stuff stuffed in a bigger room.

Well, anyway, I managed to write something in the last two days. Here it is."
