Evolving Riddle-4
video upload by Memetune Studio
"Yesterday a new part of the riddle arrived in the post - a beautiful Ensoniq SD1!
The SD1 is a Transwave Rompler workstation from 1990
Did you know that Ensoniq founder Bob Yannes invented the Rompler as we know it (and also the SID chip)? The very first one was called the ESQ1 and came out in 1986, the year before the Roland D50, and then all the other ones from Korg, Yamaha, Kawai, Emu, Alesis, and Kurzweil, each quickly developing their own digital rom chips. Actually Bob used single cycle waveforms stored in rom, but the basic structure and concept of the ESQ1 is what became the rompler. It had 3 simple rom-based VCOs that could be layered and sent through an analog filter. It is a wonderful, epoch defining synth - totally underrated IMO
It was enhanced and repackaged as the SQ80 in 1988 as a fully realised Rompler with more memory for the read-only samples
Their follow up was the VFX which added Transwave synthesis - a bit like the PPG wavetable idea where you can move through the waveform and modulate it. However the VFX had some reliability issues and was replaced a year later by the SD1 which also added a sequencer, and more voices and memory
And this is what we have here - mixed in with the other synths - Quadrasynth, TG33, Waldorf Microwave2 and the Roland JV1080
The reverbs are the Lexicon 224X and the Quantum Room Simulator
There is one part of the riddle left to make - I'll try and work on it tomorrow. Then I will release them all as an album - 'Evolving Riddles' by Benge 😀"

Wind Beneath My Wings - cover played on ELKA X705 organ
video upload by adamstan84
"Wind Beneath My Wings"
music: Jeff Silbar
lyrics: Larry Henley
"Today I finally recorded a song that I've been lately playing a lot on my ELKA. Actually I heard this song for the first time in the Sonata Arctica version, and my version is kind of mix between that and Bette Midler's most popular version. I hope you enjoy it despite some technical flaws - mostly the noise and distortion - caused partially by the tape echo, and partially by the instrument itself still having some minor issues."
Ruina Versio x BIA distortion performance on small NE case by POB
video upload by Noise Engineering and Patrick POB OBrien
"POB takes us on a distortion journey into ruin with this dark and cinematic performance with Noise Engineering modules. Patch inspired by my recent firmware video for Librae Legio. Librae is mostly a set-and-forget module for me, and I hardly ever use the CV inputs. I showed an example on the short video by throwing a gate signal into the Ceiling input, and the result was this pumping effect that occurs throughout the whole mix. Just left it activated. I'm really glad that CV input put the hook I needed.
Notes:
0:00 BIA into Ruina Versio
1:29 Introducing Debel Iteritas Alia with wide open attack, using Quantus Trajecta to create a more vocally shaped envelope in place of its own envelope.
2:13 Introducing Sinc Legio, pitched by Opp Ned's arepeggios, then distorting it through Roucha Legio.
3:07 Introducing Virt Iter Legio as the wobbly bassline using Mimetic Digitwolis' randomizing melody, being switched at times by Muta Jovis.
5:07 Switching the bypass on Roucha's filter while adjusting its frequency.
9:35 Using Desmodus Versio's built-in LFO to affect its reverb tail.
12:55 MOAR Distortion on the BIA using Ruina Versio, toggling in and out of gated Smoosh.
14:08 Using Desmodus Versio's Tone controls to filter the reverb tail.
Clocked by Horologic Solum. Mixed on Xer Dualis, then sent through Librae Legio with its Ceiling being CV-controlled by an LFO from Pons Asinorum.

Whimsical Raps: Atrium
video upload by Whimsical Raps
"Atrium is a new instrument, where playful gestures meet dynamic systems.

new ways to compose
new ways to express
new ways to play
https://atrium.whimsicalraps.com/
five voices of analogue synthesis, controlled and modulated polytimbrally. we’ve taken ideas from our decade of modular exploration, and rethought how we reach into polyphony.
each voice is shaped by its harmonic energy while three core timbre modes push into richer territory. from simple suboctave and noise waves, through frequency modulation, and landing in formant synthesis reimagined. all squeezed through a lowpass/gate combination, providing balance and occasionally emphasis.
no digital multi-effects here, just spectres in the machine. a novel configuration of three filters, two delays, and feedback. front and almost centre — this resonant body is meant to be played. sequenceable, modulatable, while feeding back not just sound, but shape for unfolding cybernetics.
and to modulate! everything mappable to everything else, tactile input extended on the fly, mapping as a performance in itself. sources are dynamically phased across voices, and stretched in relative duration. gestures captured into five recorders, extending play rather than overriding it, all twisted in time at your whim.
Atrium is deeply learnable, and for those moments of quick change, instantly recallable. extensible with usb and midi and cv input.
//
a series of improvisations, exploring but a few edges of this new instrument.

Unlock Amazing Rhythms with Cheap Foot Pedals — 2-Minute How-To
video upload by Saul Stokes
"Enjoy this video? Purchase a $3.00 download of 5 high-quality loops made from this how-to.
https://buymeacoffee.com/saulstokes/e...
Combining multiple mono delays is not something many people do. Yet, it’s an amazing way to create rhythmic structure that you won’t get any other way. Any delay pedals will work. I prefer to use a mono signal chain to keep things from getting too complex. This concept does work in a DAW—just make sure you turn off tempo sync.
1. Create a simple rhythm. In this quick tutorial, I made a very bland white noise hi-hat loop.
2. Using the first delay pedal, slowly move the repeat knob until you find an interesting rhythmic structure. Make sure you keep the level of repeats down so the rhythm doesn’t get too wet.
3. For the second delay pedal, turn the time knob very slowly. As you do this, you’ll hear moments when the two delays start to play off each other, creating something new and exciting. This works great when the first delay is just slightly off-tempo.
4. As an extra, I added a phaser, which adds a beautiful smeared wash to the rhythm. The phaser's cycle actually adds a third sweeping rhythm.
4. Keep tweaking the repeat and time knobs of each delay—you’ll continually find new rhythmic structures. Go slowly, as there are hidden rhythms that will emerge that you might otherwise miss.
4. Why can't you use one stereo delay to achieve the same thing? It's simple because using two delays gives you two clocks, and the timing will never be perfect. The result is something that has a human characteristic rather than being stiff and perfect.
If you're strapped for cash, look for older pedals on Craigslist or eBay. The phaser in this tutorial was actually found at Goodwill. The Line 6 was purchased for $40 on Craigslist, and the Oceans 11 can often be found very inexpensively.
The cheaper the effect, the better!

"Yes, serial number one of Novation's AFX Station - basically a BassStation II with Aphex Twin's ideas for turning it into something much more than the excellent monosynth it already was.
Visually excellent, too, with a custom colour design, and, not least, a fantastic carton designed by Weirdcore which has to be seen to be appreciated.
This was a limited release which sold out very fast. WYSIWYG: the beautiful synth, looking basically unused (it still has the plastic over the LED), original power supply with UK and Euro plugs, original USB lead, and product sheet with the serial number on it. No overlays. Packing (this carton has to be kept looking great!) 6GBP."

Erik Norlander's Yamaha YC45D Combo organ dual manual, 1972-1977
Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
video upload by moogfoundation
via this Reverb listing

"The Yamaha YC45D is a dual-manual analog combo organ from the golden age of stage gear, built to compete with the Hammond sound in a portable format… though “portable” is relative, as this beast was famously overbuilt for tone and durability. With lush vibrato/chorus, drawbar control, and punchy percussion voices, it became a favorite of gigging players in the ’70s and beyond.
This unit is in good, working condition. It does not include the original stand or pedalboard. Gray lid is included, shown in last image. Some surface scuffs and two notable nicks in the chassis (shown in images).
Key Features:
Dual 61-note manuals with percussion and sustain modes
9 drawbars per manual plus dedicated bass section
Vibrato and chorus with intensity and speed control
Bass and lead voice settings with real-time switching
Gray lid version
Condition Notes:
All keys, drawbars, switches, and functions work as expected
No pedalboard or stand included
Cosmetically light wear, good overall for its age
The YC45D has been used by everyone from Rick Wright (Pink Floyd) to Garth Hudson (The Band), and remains a favorite among collectors and retro keyboardists for its unique voicing and stage presence.
Please note: Due to its size and weight, this instrument is best suited for local pickup. Freight shipping may be arranged by the buyer (please contact us prior to purchase if you intend to have the item shipped).

Büromaschinen | What a single pattern can do | X.12 Firmware exploration
video upload by buromaschinen
"A bit late to the party.
Not a proper song, it's a single pattern first exploration to test the new sound design and manipulation possibilities of the Elektron Machinedrum unofficial Firmware ver. X.12.
It's unbelievably good.
I'm totally shocked/in awe and I think I will go MD X.12 only for a while.
It really feels like that Monomachine/Machinedrum hybrid I have been dreaming about for such a long time.
Next thing I want to do is a pure data midi2CC script that allows me to input notes and chords with a midi keyboard.
A special thank you goes to the developers, you really did an incredible job.
If I could make a little wish for a future addition: I would love to have tonal mode for the ROM machines as well, I have a huge sample library from the Amiga era that is waiting to be loaded in the UW :)
In this exploration I mainly used GND-PU and GND-SW for the melodies, all synthesis, no samples. The pulse bass/pad thing is sidechained with a NFX-CO machine and the main pads use a NFX-EV to achieve long attack/release and double stage filtering.
All the audio is coming from the main AB out, no additional audio outputs were used.
You can find my music on buromaschinen.bandcamp.com
Buromaschinen is part of the Distant Future association, distantfuture.org"
