"Another session from our recent trip to Yamaha HQ in Hamamatsu in Japan. We shot this with Tori Letzler - who's also recently appeared as a guest on Sonic TALK and was one of the Yamaha artists featured during their 45 years of Making Synths celebrations.

Tori , who'd not played with the Refaces prior to this was game for a short improv session. Using the Reface CS, Reface CP and Reface DX.

The results were dark and dystopian."

"It’s been a banner 2019 for North West Londoner and multi-instrumentalist Georgia. After making her name as a session drummer for artists such as Mica Levi and Kate Tempest, her heady swerve into electro-pop this year landed her spots on BBC Radio 1’s A playlist and an appearance at Glastonbury’s Park Stage.

This week we sit in while she works magic on her beloved Dave Smith OB-6, Roland SH-101 and Nord Wave synths and layers EBow strummed sitar lines around a rousing four-on-the-floor kick drum beat.

Georgia’s Seeking Thrills LP arrives via Domino on January 10.

"Je m'étais promis" is a short demo track to illustrate the use of a theremin as a controller connected to a modular synth to :
- Freeze audio (2HP Freez)
- Change note of an arpeggiator (2HP ARP)
- Change the cutoff frequency of a filter (2HP LPF)
while playing the theremin in a regular way at the same time.

"The Galaxy Electric - Buchla Cosmic Drone - Session 1 - 11/18/19 - Modular Drone Music

Relax and tune into our live weekly Drone Sessions. This inaugural session involves a drone featuring 4 Buchla style square wave oscillators starting in tune a couple octaves apart. As the oscillator frequencies drift apart by way of manual control beating ensues. Listening to droning oscillators can serve as an aid in a meditation practice as there is no sudden changes in sound. Just smooth drifts in pitch and the resulting beat frequencies. Drones can also serve as an ambient track to have on while doing tasks that require intense focus. The slow yet progressive nature of a drone performance can help one focus on tasks without distraction.

The electronic music instruments used in this performance of modular drone music are the Buchla Music Easel, and a small system involving a Buchla clone model 259 Programmable Complex Waveform Generator, Buchla 292h Dual Lowpass Gate, and 281h Dual Function Generator in the Buchla LEM Powered 3 Boat."

"Augustus Green of The Galaxy Electric uses a Buchla inspired modular synthesizer system to demonstrate making a randomly generated pseudo sequence using the 266r Source of Uncertainty Buchla clone, 280r Quad Envelope Generator Buchla clone, 1979 modular Dual Algorithmic Oscillator DAO, and 292c Quad Lopass Gate Buchla clone. The DAO is a dual version of the masterful Émilie Gillet's Mutable Instruments Braids. The new dual interface design and electrical engineering to assure Buchla system compatibility was performed by 1979 modular. The HARM and TOY* Algorithms are featured in this patch. The varied pitches as well as the animation of the DAO's parameters are being generated at random by the Source of Uncertainty. The 292c Quad Lopass Gate is used as a dual VCA in this instance and is being animated by the 280r Quad Envelope Generator. This is a modular synthesizer tutorial and demonstration that focuses on the Buchla modular synthesizer system."

"About the Alan R. Pearlman Foundation & ARPchives

My name is Dina Pearlman. I'm the daughter of the late Alan R. Pearlman, inventor of ARP Synthesizers - groundbreaking electronic synthesizers that changed the face of music forever.

Why It's Important

Since the death of my father in early January, I have seen overwhelming evidence that there needs to be a thoroughly reexamined history of his work because his story and that of ARP Synthesizers is relevant to the history and understanding of modern music.

Even more importantly, because of the high cost of education and vintage electronic music instruments, we want to offer opportunities for musicians, particularly young and underfunded musicians to have educational and artistic opportunities - something that Alan was passionate about.

This is why the Alan R. Pearlman Foundation was formed - to honor his legacy as an inventor, a musician, an entrepreneur, an engineer and a mentor... to make his innovative inventions publicly accessible, and help inspire future generations to imagine and create through charitable projects.

Getting Started

Before we can start our projects, we need to get the word out about our Foundation and our Mission.

We have been given an opportunity to introduce the Foundation to the music instrument industry at the hugely popular NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) show this January. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us. At NAMM, the foundation board members will promote the Foundation, its mission and its charitable projects to electronic musicians, engineers, potential donors and the press.


How You Can Make a Difference

As the Foundation is in its infancy, we are seeking funding to cover some of our costs of attending the show: that includes tradeshow booth expenses, marketing materials, and travel expenses for three of our board members. We need help from people like you! Music lovers, synth lovers, creators and believers in perpetuating educational and creative opportunities. As the Foundation is still applying for 501(c)(3) status, we cannot guarantee a tax-deductible contribution.* However, we can offer some fabulous incentives!"

STEREO FIELD is one instrument with three uses. It is simultaneously a stereo/quad modular touch plate feedback atonal synthesizer, a stereo/quad audio processor and a pressure sensitive chaotic CV "controller". All three uses are available separately as well as simultaneously and in conversation with each other. The Stereo Field allows its user to manipulate and patch two analog stereo preamp circuits via touch plates. By utilizing skin conductivity as new paths for current to follow you are creating "new circuits" and new sounds in relation to where your fingers are patching. The individual touch plates are directly connected to nearly every connection point of every component in its circuitry (located directly under each corresponding touch plate). When touched with multiple fingers it will create atonal analog feedback with either of the two mirrored circuits represented by interlocking touch-plate circles. The resulting feedback can go beyond the abilities of human hearing (Take caution!) and down to the very slow clicks of a saw waveform and both can often be happening simultaneously."

"The mystery continues!! The very useful Select Bus or modular MIDI CV line bus has a lack of masters so I decided to make a module while waiting for the PCB's for the Melisma & Sequarallel to get here (which will both have Select Bus features).

Not sure about the zoom feature. I saw it work somewhere but now can't find that video and thought there was a certain MIDI message for that but can't find that either. Basically I'm calling out for help on zoom!
I'm going to drop it into the demo rack soon enough so will video findings then."
