Sequential Prophet-6 Desktop Unboxing & First Run Through

New Gear Acquisition: Prophet-6 Desktop Unboxing

video upload by Paul Synths/Drums

"I am now the privileged owner of a Sequential Prophet-6. This was the synthesizer I knew I'd pull the trigger on if I ever downsized my keyboard arsenal.

One of Dave Smith's flagship synthesizers, the Prophet-6 takes players back to the days of the iconic Prophet-5 synth, which defined the 80s.

This new synth is an absolute beast. 2 VCO's, 4-pole low pass filter, 64 step sequencer, and a multitude of amazing built in effects.

And of course, 6 voices of pure, analog power. I love it. Easy to use interface, just enough knobs and buttons where it's not too overwhelming, and the sound... Every 70s and 80s horror and sci movie ever made. This might be the last synthesizer I ever buy. It's definitely a forever instrument and I assure you, Lots of videos to come..."

Sequential Prophet-6 First Run Through

video upload by Paul Synths/Drums

"The first run through of the Prophet-6. Haven't even scratched the surface of what this beast can do. But so far, I love it."

Roland Juno-6 & Korg Polysix Final Videos, Nov. 16th, 2024

video upload by Paul Synths/Drums

"I made the decision to downsize my synth arsenal and sell my two beloved workhorses that I've had the privilege of owning for the better part of 8 and a half years. I knew it was time to move on and these just weren't getting enough use.
This was honestly the first time in over a year I'd plugged in my Juno-6 and the first time since around May of 2024 I'd plugged in the Polysix. I sure hope they find good homes. Lots of memories and insanely awesome recordings were made with these analog beasts. They'll both always hold a special place in my heart.
This is a huge change, but not to worry.
A forever replacement is already in the works."

Spitfire Audio - The Albions Orchestral Selects Walkthrough

video upload by Spitfire Audio

Press release follows.

Spitfire Audio crafts carefully curated collection of evocative ensemble patches from acclaimed ALBION range as THE ALBIONS ORCHESTRAL SELECTS

LONDON, UK: leading sounds and sample libraries creator Spitfire Audio is proud to announce availability of THE ALBIONS ORCHESTRAL SELECTS — shipping as a carefully curated collection of the most inspiring and evocative ensemble patches brought together from across its acclaimed ALBION range to offer a rich tapestry of hand-picked orchestral sounds that let the individual character of the orchestra shine, supplying composers with a wide range of expressive possibilities to bring any cinematic moment to life — as of March 6…

It is fair to say that THE ALBIONS ORCHESTRAL SELECTS is testament to the power, versatility, and, indeed, longevity of the ALBION range — after all, the original ALBION, which was effectively re-released by popular demand as ALBION LEGACY in 2023, kick-started a whole range of all-in- one composer tools for cinematic inspiration, its collection of orchestral ensembles featuring strings, brass, woodwind, and percussion, as well as loops, synths, and atmospheres, all creatively captured in the beautiful resonance of the hallowed (Lyndhurst) Hall at London’s legendary AIR Studios way back in 2011.

The exceptional collection that is THE ALBIONS ORCHESTRAL SELECTS duly draws from six distinct ALBION libraries — namely, ALBION COLOSSUS, a gargantuan, all-in-one toolkit that pushes contrast, dynamism and intensity to eleven, elevating scores to breathtaking new heights in a new blockbuster era; ALBION NEO, a modern cinematic collection centred around a chamber-sized orchestra with a super-intimate string section split by divisi across all articulations to offer anyone access to the incredible definition and expression of classic and progressive techniques, accompanied by an encyclopaedic range of progressive synths, loops, and textures; ALBION TUNDRA, taking a 100-piece orchestra playing never-before-sampled techniques at the very edge of silence to capture a characteristically Scandinavian sound; ALBION ONE, a renowned, industry-standard orchestral sample library that provides everything needed to make film music, comprising a 109-piece orchestra accompanied by a thunderous cinematic percussion section, plus warp-able loops designed by award-winning engineers and an enormous steam synthesiser; ALBION ICENI, an award- winning package boasting epic low-end brass and electrifying woodwinds, harmonised with a string ensemble encompassing an extensive range of cellos and basses alongside an extraordinary collection of thick, deep synth sounds and loops as an apocalyptic low-end orchestra; ALBION LOEGRIA, an expertly sampled chamber-sized orchestra, featuring strings, woods, brass, and cinematic drums alongside eclectic loops and an inspiring organic synth as the perfect starting point for independent films, period dramas, or more cerebral and intimate music; and last, but by no means least, the aforesaid ALBION LEGACY — as a carefully curated selection of sounds designed to blend seamlessly into any scoring project.

Painting vivid sonic landscapes to bring musical visions to life is even easier using THE ALBIONS ORCHESTRAL SELECTS’ inspiring and evocative ensemble patches... think Epic Strings, selections played by larger string ensembles including the full dynamic range of ALBION ONE’s strings and the soaring highs and powerful lows of ALBION ICENI and ALBION TUNDRA that range from delicate textures to thunderous power, providing everything needed to create truly unforgettable string passages; Intimate Strings, showcasing the nuanced detail of ALBION NEO and the emotive beauty of ALBION LOEGRIA, capturing intimacy with exceptional clarity and expression; Epic Brass, bringing together the enormous cinematic brass patches from ALBION ONE’s full brass range, the majesty of ALBION TUNDRA, and the colossal low-end of ALBION ICENI to provide the tools needed to create brass arrangements that resonate with power and emotion; Intimate Brass, a more intimate and nuanced approach to brass scoring, achieved through the focused intensity of ALBION NEO’s brass, with long and short staccatissimo articulations; Epic Woodwinds, harnessing the soaring melodies of ALBION ONE’s woodwinds, the haunting textures of ALBION TUNDRA, and the rich depths of ALBION ICENI to provide a wide range of woodwind colours and textures; Intimate Woodwinds, providing the warmth, intimacy, and nuance needed for delicate woodwind passages, courtesy of ALBION NEO; and Albion Percussion, unleashing the thunderous power of the DARWIN percussion ensemble from ALBION TUNDRA, the cinematic impact of ALBION ONE’s XXL percussion, ALBION LEGACY’s CYMBALS, and the nuanced detail of ALBION LOEGRIA’s FINE DRUMS LOOSE and FINE DRUMS TIGHT as a diverse collection providing a rhythmic foundation for any scoring project.

Paul Thomson — company co-founder, and an accomplished composer in his own right — remains enamoured with Spitfire Audio’s acclaimed ALBION range, resulting in THE ALBIONS ORCHESTRAL SELECTS, stating: “There are so many sounds in these collections that are instant cue-starters, giving you a film score sound for any genre right out of the box; for this selection, I’ve pulled out my favourite patches from the orchestral sections recorded in Lyndhurst Hall at AIR Studios, locking together beautifully but allowing a huge range of expression and style, so this is the perfect introduction to the ALBION series — my source of instant inspiration!”

Presented in Native Instruments’ KONTAKT 7 virtual instrument platform, the NKS (NATIVE KONTROL STANDARD®)-ready/AAX-, AU-, VST2-, and VST3-compatible, 26.3 GB download-sized THE ALBIONS ORCHESTRAL SELECTS library is available for MacOS 11, 12, or 13 (latest update) and Windows 10 or 11 (latest Service Pack) at a 20%-discounted, time-limited promo price of £119.00 GBP (inc. VAT)/$159.00 USD/€143.00 EUR (inc. VAT) until March 13, 2025 — rising thereafter to its regular price of £149.00 GBP (inc. VAT)/$199.00 USD/€179.00 EUR — from here: https://www.spitfireaudio.com/the-albions-orchestral-selects (Crossgrade pricing is available to existing owners of any library from the ALBION range.)

Anyone who does not already own KONTAKT 7 is invited to download KONTAKT 7 PLAYER for free; though SPITFIRE SYMPHONIC EXTRAS will work with both KONTAKT 8 variations, it does not need either.

Spitfire Audio’s namesake Spitfire Audio app allows anyone to buy now and download anytime, and is available for free from here: http://www.spitfireaudio.com/info/library-manager/

Spitfire Signature Library via The Human League's and Heaven 17's Martyn Ware

Spitfire presents: MARTYN WARE - NIC library

Published on May 29, 2014 Spitfire Audio·114 videos

"A look at our new signature library from the synth pioneer Martyn Ware - founder member of The Human League and Heaven 17
http://www.spitfireaudio.com/martyn-w..."

And the press release:

"Spitfire swells Signature Range with synthpop production pioneer Martyn Ware

LONDON, UK: compositional tools creator Spitfire Audio is proud to announce availability of MARTYN WARE - NO ILLEGAL CONNECTIONS — the latest addition to its swelling Signature Range of sample libraries (where legendary composers, producers, and sound-smiths curate award-winning sonic DNA for future music-makers) for Native Instruments’ KONTAKT 4 or 5 (Mac OS X 10.7 or higher and Windows 7 or later) — as of May 30...

A distinctive pattern, product, or characteristic by which someone or something can be identified. So reads a typical dictionary definition of the word signature. Spitfire Audio’s Signature Range sample library luminaries certainly have a signature sound, hence the apt appellation. As one of the most successful, influential, and prolific film composers of his generation, Hans Zimmer — with whom Spitfire Audio previously collaborated on the HZ PERCUSSION - LONDON library, a definitive collection of hybrid cinematic widescreen percussion ensemble excellence — surely needs little in the way of introduction, for example.

Today it is with great pride that Spitfire Audio welcomes another trailblazer to its legendary Signature Range sample library lineup with MARTYN WARE - NO ILLEGAL CONNECTIONS. This time namesake legendary synthpop production pioneer Martyn Ware — founding member of electronic trailblazers The Human League and synth-funksters Heaven 17, and also a revered record producer in his own right with a sizeable number of super-successful credits to his sought- after name with over 50-million sales worldwide for the likes of ‘Queen of Rock ’n’ Roll’ Tina Turner, American singer-songwriter Terence Trent D’Arby, and eternal electro-poppers Erasure — offers up an exclusive collection of favourite analogue synth and drum sounds from his prized collection of rarefied electronic delights. These include Korg’s mid-Seventies-vintage Mini-KORG 700 ‘simple’ analogue monosynth and the Roland System 100 semi-modular monophonic synth with which Martyn made his name on early Human League classics like ‘Being Boiled’ — though the examples used on MARTYN WARE - NO ILLEGAL CONNECTIONS were actually gifted to Martyn by Erasure synth Svengali Vince Clarke (who openly admitted to being influenced by those early electronic recordings) upon discovering that Martyn had long since sold his originals — and the early-Eighties-vintage Jupiter-8, Roland’s first truly professional programmable analogue polysynth that formed the backbone of Heaven 17 hits like ‘Temptation’. Before making their own distinctive mark on the hit parade, prior to owning a drum machine, Martyn and his Human League (and Heaven 17) synth-playing partner Ian Craig-Marsh’s make do and mend modus operandi involved rhythmically riding faders on the aforesaid System 100 and its associated Model 104 Sequencer to create bass and snare drums on the fly! Little wonder, then, that the then-young Vince Clarke sat up and took note during his fledgling Depeche Mode days.

Having joined forces with Vince Clarke to form The Illustrious Company, combining their talent to exploit the creative and commercial possibilities of their unique three-dimensional sound technology in collaboration with fine artists, the performing arts, and corporate clients worldwide, Martyn extensively lectures on music production, technology, and creativity at universities and colleges around the world when not working in his studio space at London’s Tileyard Studios complex — coincidentally, also home to Spitfire Audio!

By way of further background to the welcome MARTYN WARE - NO ILLEGAL CONNECTIONS release, Spitfire Audio co-founder Paul Thomson tellingly pays tribute to the accomplished individual in question before going on to introduce the latest Signature Range sample library itself: “Martyn’s a legend in the electronic music field. He’s a founder member of The Human League; his first massive hit was ‘Being Boiled’. And then he left to form Heaven 17 with Ian Craig-Marsh; they had another massive hit with ‘Temptation’, although American audiences may be more familiar with the hit ‘Let Me Go’, which was played hugely on KROQ and MTV over there. He went on to produce with huge success; he helped relaunch Tina Turner’s career with ‘Let’s Stay Together’ and ‘Private Dancer’. He produced Terence Trent D’Arby, Marc Almond, Erasure, and many others. His early albums were direct precursors, in many ways, to the directions that hip-hop took Stateside when it went electro in the early Eighties. We believe that the key to sampling synths is not just good signal chain, but it’s also the curatorship of the sounds, and this is a rare opportunity to share in Martyn’s sonic approach — the buttons and dials that he tweaks to suit his taste and his heritage. So we get to see what he can come up with on these machines — fantastic synths like the Roland System 100, Jupiter-8, and the Korg 700. We’ve also got a warped collection, which is kind of sound designed from this original material. We’ve got some modern interpretations, but it’s largely curated to be in the spirit of Martyn’s style — how the young electronic acts in the UK inspired the likes of Afrika Bambaataa with the burgeoning electro and hip-hop scene Stateside in New York and the South Bronx.”

It goes without saying, therefore, that Martyn Ware and his creative cohorts proved inspirational back in the day while MARTYN WARE - NO ILLEGAL CONNECTIONS clearly is inspirational today to anyone looking to make musical use of a broad selection of pads, leads, drums, effects, tempo-locked sequences, and all manner of curios created by the man himself, with additional sympathetic sound design by award-winning composers and producers — all presented in ‘Super Mono’ to provide a selection of channels processed via vintage Class-A analogue outboard. With over 270 piquant presets — some with up to five distinctly-different mixable signal paths — providing a total library size of 13.5 GB in compressed downloadable data from 25.1 GB of WAV files totalling 11,016 samples, such musical inspiration from a true trailblazer is unlikely to dry up anytime soon. Just ask the now-not-so-young Vince Clarke — all set to release his 16th studio album with Erasure, his third successful group since first hearing Martyn Ware’s time-honoured Human League tones 30-plus years ago!

MARTYN WARE - NO ILLEGAL CONNECTIONS can be purchased and downloaded directly from Spitfire Audio for an introductory promotional price of £75.00 GBP (subject to VAT within the EU) until June 12, 2014 (rising to £99.00 GBP thereafter) from here: http://www.spitfireaudio.com/products-page (Note that this will require a full version of Native Instruments KONTAKT 4 or 5 to run.)

Emulation II features a set of unique instruments to reproduce that typical music from the 80s: from warm digital sounds to the most analog-ish textures.

UVI adopted a hybrid approach to create these sounds, combining deep multi-sampling and powerful modeling tools (analog filters, LFO, envelopes, etc.), inspired by the original machine and enhanced with today most modern audio processing and script technology.

Sounds were recorded and carefully selected from the authentic restored instrument, with the very best analog and digital gear, suiting UVI quality standard. This process allows preserving the original sounds' lo-fi charm.

Besides, hundreds of sounds and instruments among the best are included: drums, bass, bells, choir-voices, fretted instruments, FXs, keyboards, mallets, percussion, synths, strings, orchestral hits and a lot more.

A simple, yet complete, user interface reproduces the looks and feeling of the most famous and essential machine from the eighties. With 250+ best sounds and primary editing tools, Emulation II enables you to create authentic spin-offs with infinite options of sounds and tones.

This is definitely the ultimate digital version of the long standing professional sampler of the mid-80s, that has been used by Depeche Mode, Peter Gabriel, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, Jean-Michel Jarre, Stevie Wonder, Genesis, Paul McCartney, Enya, Vangelis, in John Carpenter's soundtracks, etc.

Discover also Drumulation: an utter beatbox with step sequencer from the eighties, loaded with 500+ drums and percussion sounds. Make your beats sound 12 bits!
From the Pop culture resurgence to the most modern Electro-Pop, make music without any frontier.

Thanks to the new and free player UVI Workstation 2, Emulation II can work:
- as a stand-alone instrument, compatible with Mac & PC

Prophet 2000 Sampler | Fantastic sound! | Demo & Tutorial

video by Espen Kraft

"The Sequential Prophet 2000 sampler from 1985. Followed a few months later by the module version Prophet 2002. 12 bit glorious sound, analog filter and amp and a very difficult mapping structure.

There does exist several software editors for this sampler so you don't HAVE to use the sampler itself to do the editing. However, I get the most satisfaction, inspiration and reward by using the sampler itself. That's why I don't care much for software editors for any synth or gear.
Both the 'Prophet 2012' software and SampleWrench lets' you import/export samples so Google them if that's your thing.

The 'null disk' I use in this tutorial is made following the Paul Wiffen Prophet 200 clinic from Keyboard Magazine Oct' 1987.
Most of the sounds in my demo track is made from sampling some of my synths, like the Juno-106, DX7, and Alpha Juno. The drums are all coming from the Korg KR-55 as I show and I chopped it all up in the 2000 and recorded each drum hit in the DAW and arranged the beat in there.
Finally I sampled the entire song and played with the filter and resonance in the 2000, in real time, while recording that into the DAW, I then found the best parts and put it into the arrangement as you hear it.
Reverb used is Valhalla VintageVerb.
The final mix is done with stems through the SSL SiX with outboard processing and mastering."

"We are a new band called "Loved by Ghosts" which uses almost entirely DIY synthesizers that we built ourselves.

In "Sonic Hysteria", you would certainly recognize the midibox SID while the bass is Monomachine.

In “Girl Go” the bass line is Avr-X Synthesizer, various FX is midibox FM and the lead Oberheim OB-12.

In the other songs - that we will be posting soon - we use: ASM-2, Mutable Instruments Shruthi-1, Pixie (Wasp clone), Monowave(X), MFOS Soundlab, SUB-COMMANDER Guitar Synth, Weird Sound Generator, Drone Lab V2, AVR synth, Gorf Sequencer.
For guitar and voice we use various filters from the web (wasp filter clone, steiner, lm13700 filter, ssm2044, polivoks), fx's built with boards from Jürgen Haible (Frequency Shifter FS-1A, Triple Chorus, Krautrock Phaser and 20-pole Phaser), many vintage Russian fx units, and many electro-Harmonix stompboxes.
All of them are sequenced from an Elektron Monomachine (we love it !!!) and an Electribe sampler is used for drums, created with the same synths.
You will recognize some of them in the pictures. More to come on our Facebook page.

We want to thank you… Thorsten Klose, Laurie Biddulph, Paul Maddox, Ray Wilson, Jürgen Haible, Johan Severinsson and Jonas Karlsson, Olivier Gillet, Peter Edwards, Jarek Ziembicki and to MATRIXSYNTH. Without your projects, our music would be empty.
And special thanks to our pet Speakjet, Wof, Wof.
If you enjoyed our music, follow us on Facebook, YouTube and SoundCloud, there's a lot more to come."
