Soundtoys Users Donate $61,000 to Médecins Sans Frontières | Up Next: WCK Global Relief

via Soundtoys:

Soundtoys Users Donate $61,000 to Médecins Sans Frontières

Up Next: Supporting World Central Kitchen’s Global Relief Efforts

November 18, 2025 (BURLINGTON, VT): Renowned audio effects creator Soundtoys announced a $61,000 donation to Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders, raised entirely through donations made through purchases of its Radiator plug-in.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) provides emergency medical care in more than 70 countries, providing life-saving treatment to people caught in wars, natural disasters, epidemics, and exclusion from medical services. In recent months, Médecins Sans Frontières has been working tirelessly in conflict and crisis zones, including Gaza, Haiti, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, and Afghanistan, amid extreme violence and humanitarian collapse.

This gift continues Soundtoys’ ongoing pledge to direct 100% of proceeds from Radiator to organizations on the front lines of humanitarian and environmental crises. Originally inspired by the warmth and grit of vintage tube gear, Radiator has become one of Soundtoys’ most beloved plug-ins – and a lasting vehicle for giving back. All Radiator sales made at soundtoys.com after November 1, 2025, will benefit World Central Kitchen (WCK). Founded by Spanish chef José Andrés, WCK delivers fresh meals to communities affected by natural disasters, conflict, and climate crises. WCK teams are currently providing immediate relief in Jamaica, Gaza, Haiti, and other areas with urgent needs.

“At Soundtoys, we believe in the power of music to help make the world a better place. And in that spirit, we're committed to raising awareness and supporting human rights, the environment, and people in need,” said Ken Bogdanowicz, CEO and founder of Soundtoys.

“I can't say it any better than Chef Andres: 'When people are hungry, send cooks. Not tomorrow, today.”

To participate in Soundtoys’ ongoing giving pledge, purchase to donate at soundtoys.com/product/radiator.

Soundtoys is committed to philanthropy and activism. Over the years Soundtoys has raised more than $870,000 for humanitarian and civil rights organizations, including support for the International Rescue Committee, Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders, World Central Kitchen, the Red Cross Society of Ukraine, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS), National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Legal Defense Fund, Team Rubicon, and the Gulf Restoration Network.

About Soundtoys: Based in Burlington, VT, Soundtoys was founded in 1996 by Ken Bogdanowicz, the DSP effects designer behind the legendary H3000 Ultra-Harmonizer and the DSP4000 line of hardware signal processors from Eventide. Soundtoys develops world-class, creative signal-processing software for audio production, mixing, and sound design. Soundtoys users include Mike Dean, Greg Wells, Kenny Beats, Jack Antonoff, Finneas O'Connell, Disclosure, Jamie Lidell, Dave Pensado, Tony Maserati, and Tim Kelley.

The Florian Schneider Collection to Be Auctioned at JULIEN*S November 19

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via JULIEN*S

"THE FLORIAN SCHNEIDER COLLECTION

Auction to be held at Musician's Hall of Fame & Museum, Nashville, on November 19

An incredible collection of more than 450 artifacts from the life and career of Florian Schneider, co-founder of the pioneer electronic band Kraftwerk."

Pics and videos featuring some of the gear below, and his Lederhosen for good measure (thanks greg!).

Update: the post has been fully updated with all the synth related gear. This may just well be the longest post to be featured on the site. I wanted to capture all the pics for all of the details including notes, scuffs, and of course serial numbers. It's an interesting look into what he used, the condition he keped his gear, in some cases, how he actually used his gear. Note the phonetics on the keys of the Casio CZ-101 and DX-100. Note the Midi Switch Box with a built-in speaker? What's that about? Note the camouflage key strap on the Korg RK-100 Remote Keyboard. Did he pick it out himself or did the keytar just come with it? Note the repeat midi controllers and the MIDI saxaphones. Wind was his primary instrument. You'll find a ton of the acoustic gear he used in the other listings. This is a fascinating insight into both what and how he used his gear.

Side note: there is no affiliate compensation for this post. The note at the top automatically shows for all posts with the Auction label.

Rack Mount Sennheiser VSM-201 Vocoder

Starting Bid $5,000

Estimate $20,000 - $40,000 USD

A late 1970s Sennheiser VSM 201 Vocoder with no serial number from the personal studio and collection of Florian Schneider of Kraftwerk (see images). While it’s said that only a few dozen of these Vocoders were produced, a few examples made it into the hands of forward-thinking musical artists including Herbie Hancock, Daft Punk, and of course, Kraftwerk, who used a VSM-201 like this on their albums Man Machine (1978) and Computerworld (1981). The VSM-201 has an intelligible sound that has not yet been bested by modern gear. Includes power cable. This VSM-201 has been removed from its wooden enclosure (which bears the serial number plate) and modified with a metal rack mount casing, presumably for live use. Requires 240v, IEC power cable not included.

Dimensions: 19 x 9 x 9 inches

Category: Kraftwerk, Equipment

Provenance: PROVENANCE From the Estate of Florian Schneider

Weston Precision Audio - Pro2021 & Fractal Audio VP4

video uploads by Tumeni Knobs

"I recently finished building the Weston Precision Audio Pro2021 from the Synthcube.com kit. It was an amazing experience to build an entire synth from a giant box of parts, and I had a ton of fun. This synth is a clone of the venerable Sequential Pro One from the early 80s and it sounds incredible. It may seem limited but it offers tons of sound design capabilities, and it's certainly a lot of fun to play. Like with most synths, once you add reverb and delay you can't really go wrong.

This is just an informal, not very well prepared noodle on it. The Pro2021 has midi and CV control options on the back panel, and here I'm using my modular rack to drive the clock which drives the arpeggiator rate. The audio outs are going into the modular's mixer, and effects are from the Strymon Starlab and Veno-Echo. This particular patch is highlighting the oscillator sync feature, which I love the sound of. The internal LFO is modulating the pitch of Osc 1 and Osc 2 is set to triangle wave. Sounds big and fat and crisp and clean all at the same time. Cheers!"

Fractal Audio VP4... with a Synthesizer. Is it any good?

video upload by Tumeni Knobs

"Oddly, when researching the VP4, I couldn't find any demos of it being used with a synth, so I bought it anyway to see if it would be a good match. And yes, most emphatically yes, it is! It was immediately apparent they would go well together - and having only played around with the VP4 for a couple of hours, I thought this video might help others decide if it could work for them.

Obviously, the VP4 does so much more than Drive, Chorus, Delay and Reverb, but those are bread-n-butter effects, so I stuck with those for this quick sound demo. I've since messed around with other effects in the VP4, and found all kinds of great sounds.

The synth is a Weston Precision Audio Pro2021 - a clone of the legendary Sequential Pro One. I built this from a DIY kit I bought from SynthCube.com. It's a simple mono-synth, with no built in effects, and it really does sound excellent - and even more so with a little effects (or a lot of effects). It's filter is super resonant and easily gets squelchy, but that enables some of the greatest sounds when you play with the cutoff knob. ;-)

The recording is direct mono out from the synth into the VP4, stereo out from the VP4 to the iRig Pro Duo that's connected to my old iPhone 12. I opened the audio file in Presonus StudioOne to see if it needed some EQ or compression or normalizing, but I decided to leave it completely raw. I made no changes to the audio whatsoever.

So, I am completely sold on the VP4. I have a load of other effects pedals, including the Eventide H90, and this thing is amazing. The quality of the effects and the build are absolutely top notch, and the user interface is so easy to use right out of the box. It's way way way easier to mess with than the H90...

Cheers!"

Faded photograph | Tranquil ambient with Rhodes piano, Prophet VS, Alvarez 12, and FM3 pedal

video upload by MIDERA

"It's been a month. As I said, my wife lost her job in May. We hoped she would get a job that seemed like a great fit, someone had reached out to her and said she'd be perfect. Guess they didn't think so later. Oh well.

I did manage to extract all the audio from my old Roland VS-840GX. I kind of wish I was still recording using that thing, it was so good for just sitting down without a screen and recording whatever I wanted, but using a DAW is just so much nicer.

I had half written the rhodes part on this track, when I ended up recording something else that I plan to put into a rock track (yes, I am trying to get back into writing that type of music). Came back to this last night and recorded this, with some changes. Funny how walking away and coming back to something helps you change it for the better.

I used the Fractal Audio FM3 as a looper to loop the first part and then played everything else over it. The Rhodes and Prophet VS was performed in one go, the guitar was done in a second round with Eventide Blackhole VST for reverb.

Well, I hope you enjoy this - my first track written in a month."

"Demonstration of an Eventide H949, fully serviced, of sale and the pitch control you have over audio."

via this Reverb listing

Pics of the inside below.

"This is fully serviced. All power supply large filter caps replaced, the ground connection from the molex a known failure mode has been tied permanently.

For H910 mode hit the 'algo' button and it will remove the 'deglitch'.

Memory chips, brand new, changed to ones that only run on 5v rail and not three different rails, they run much cooler, also when something goes wrong they don't get cooked. The early DRAMS used by eventide, those that were available were failure prone - the Personal Computer revolution quickly led to better DRAMS - which are deployed in this unit.

Electrolytic caps, tested, replaced for low ESR - top quality the best available

Better quality ceramic capacitors around DRAMS to drop noise floor to the lowest possible. They are mil-spec about £3.50 each for a tiny component and there are 10 of them.

Ripple checked for lowest noise performance possible

Tantalum where there should be tantalum - again the best.

Heatsink compound applied

A lot of the character of this unit comes from two factors; one the early digital use of memory chips to store the audio delay line with ultra fast bit slicing AMD bipolar processing chips and two the DBX companding (x3) - these really resolve the noise associated with early digital and improve signal to noise."

Eventide Harmonizer H949 Demo with Roland JX3P + Fender Jaguar + Yamaha PM-1000

video upload by Synth Tailor Electronics

"Here's a wonderful piece of outboard gear restored by our shop...the Eventide Harmonizer H-949 Pitch Shifter. This demo is for Vartan who just purchased this unit.

The gear used on this video was a Roland JX3P Synthesizer, 1984 Fender Jaguar, Yamaha PM-1000, recorded straight into a Focusrite Clarett+ 8 Pre.

Intro 00:00-00:25
JX3P Sequence I: 00:26-05:06
JX3P 2 DCO Sequence : 05:07-05:56
Fender Jaguar Pitch Shifting: 05:57-08:12
Fender Jaguar Pitch/Rainbow Delays: 08:13-09:14
Fender Jaguar II : 09:15-10:10
H949 HOLD Function: 10:11-11:49

History on the H-949:
The Eventide H949 Harmonizer was a pitch-shifting and harmonizing device released in 1979-1984 that was a significant step forward in the development of these technologies:
-De-glitched pitch shifting: The H949 was the first pitch-changing device to analyze audio in real-time and avoid audible glitches.
-MicroPitch: This feature used a proprietary modulation technique to precisely control small pitch shifts.
-Multiple harmonies: The H949 could create up to five simultaneous harmonies using multiple pitch-shifting algorithms.
-Digital display: The H949 had a digital display that made it easier to adjust parameters than its predecessor, the H910.
-Randomized delay: The H949 included a randomized delay feature.
-Reversed delays: The H949 included a reversed delay feature.
-Flanging: The H949 included a flange feature.
-Real-time tuning: The H949's features made real-time tuning possible, which was long before Autotune.
-Double-tracking emulation: The H949's features made double-tracking emulation possible.

This Eventide H-949 was overhauled/restored by our shop here in Columbus, Ohio. Please visit us on our website, if you have a broken Harmonizer, or vintage synthesizer, drum machine, tape machine or other vintage outboard gear.
