Korg Polysix PS-6 Analog Synthesizer SN 461833

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
video upload by Liam

"This unit is currently available for sale on Reverb, Ebay and local selling websites. If the listings are up, it's still available."

via this eBay listing, also on Reverb

"Original Korg PolySix from 1981 in Very Good condition, everything working, no yellowing. Originally bought from Japan.

No MIDI upgrade. All original hardware. Every key works with no problems and every function throughout the entire unit is in good working condition.
Wood panels in good condition, natural wearing on some corners and a few nicks on the bottom but overall very good for it's age.
Metal panel on front has light scratch on the left side (pictured) and a few nicks on the edges towards the back, but overall nothing huge cosmetically. Key bed in good shape, almost mint condition. Used very lovingly for about a year, many recordings done with it.

It's very good for gritty 80's sounds, people often compare it to the Juno but I'd more so compare the sound to that of something by Sequential Circuits like the Prophet series, with a key bed that feels like a Juno, while any remaining character is completely it's own. It even gives some effects to play with that come from the turn of a knob, letting you enable Chorus, Phaser, or both while letting you change the intensity via the knob next to it.

I've included a demo of what this particular unit sounds like, playing Eyes by Clio, produced by Roberto Ferrante who also used only a Korg Polysix for the synth tracks.

Some other notable uses of this synth off the top of my head are Faces (Clio, 1985), Start Of The Breakdown (Tears for Fears, 1983), Subways Of Your Mind (FEX, 1984), Till The End Of Time/Animal In Me (Affair, 1984), Under The Ice (Topo & Roby, 1984), and just any underground European artists from the early 80s."

Turmoil: eurorack trigger disrupter by Nervous Squirrel

video upload by thenervoussquirrel

"Big thanks to Gwenan Spearing, David Glasper, Will Muir Llia and Liam Lucas for help and encouragement with this module."

via Nervous Squirrel

"This module is useful for adding controlled unpredictability to any source of triggers.

Use the built in clock as a starting point, or feed it external events.

Set the various disrupting parameters, then use the main disruption knob to dial in the wonkiness.

Plenty of CV inputs to keep everything interesting.

Features and controls

CLOCK SPEED: Sets the rate of the internal clock.

RUN/STOP: Starts and stops the internal clock.

EXT CLK: Input for any source of triggers or gates.

DISRUPTION: Master control of the probablity of Deflect, Skip or Burst (see below) occurring.

CLOCK DEFLECT: Sets the amount of time by which a trigger is temporally shifted. Turn up this knob to set the maximum amount that the trigger is randomly displaced. The module monitors the trigger inputs and extrapolates a tempo which it can then use to predict when the next trigger might fall. This allows the triggers to be deflected forwards or backwards from where they would've otherwise occurred.

CLOCK SKIP: Sets the probability of a trigger being skipped, i.e. not passed through to the outputs.

BURST LENGTH: Sets the amount of times a trigger is repeated (from 1 to 8), for ratcheting effects.

AB CHANCE: Sets the probability of a trigger being sent to Output A or Output B. Press and hold RUN/STOP when powering up the module to change the outputs from A and B to gates instead of triggers.

ALL OUT: Main output for processed triggers.

There are also 5 CV inputs. When these are connected the knobs function as attenuators.

The two LEDs show the status of the triggers entering and leaving the module."

Custom Chrome Roland TR-808 w/ Decksaver Lid

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this listing

This one is in via M Me.

From the listing:

"Roland TR-808 Classic 80's Analogue Drum Machine W/ Custom Faceplate - 240V

The TR-808 is arguably the greatest drum machine of all time.

This classic beast uses analogue synthesis to create its sounds and eventually become the signature beatbox used in most R&B and hip-hop as well as a lot of dance and techno music. Booming bass kicks, crispy snares and a distinctive cowbell sound made famous in the 1980's are all part of the 808 and its famous sound!

Its 16 drum sounds include the famous boomy 808 kick, snare, low/mid/high toms, low/mid/high congas, rimshot, claves, hand clap, maracas, cowbell, cymbal, open hi-hat, closed hi-hat and accent. Most of the sounds can be edited. Bass Drum and Cymbal (tone, decay), Snare (tone, snappy), Toms and Congas (tuning), Open Hat (decay). All sounds have individual volume controls and individual outputs.

Its unique sound and analogue allure has allowed it to find a long-lasting home in many forms of music. Ultimately, the 808 has become one of the more important and famous drum machines in the history of music.

Notable users of the 808 are Aphex Twin, 808 State, Kevin Parker, Daft Punk, The Prodigy, Faithless, Jimi Tenor, Dr. Dre, Jimmy Edgar, Freddy Fresh, Richie Hawtin, Kraftwerk, Jean Michel Jarre, Marvin Gaye, Luke Vibert, LL Cool J, Ice Cube, the Beastie Boys, Nick Rhodes, Puff Daddy, Prince, Kanye West, Jamie XX, Moby, Herbie Hancock, Air, RZA, Liam Howlett and too many more!

This particular 808 has a custom chrome look faceplate which gives us sort of Egyptian Lover vibes (Have you seen his custom units?). This may make it difficult to use for those unfamiliar with the machine. However, we're sure you'd be able to work it out!"

Perfect Circuit Artist Picks: Best Music Gear of 2023 Part 1

video upload by Perfect Circuit

Part 2 here

"2023 is soon drawing to a close—so, we're taking a look back at the year, and taking account of all of the weird and wonderful instruments that gave us some inspiration this year. Synthesizers, drum machines, and Eurorack modules to samplers and effects, this year had no shortage of inspiring instruments.

So, we reached out to some of our friends and content creators to fill us in on their year, asking one simple question: what was the coolest piece of gear you got this year? For some, that meant brand new releases, but for others, it meant sitting down and digging into classic instruments.

In this video, we hear from:
0:00 Mylarmelodies on the Nord Micro Modular
4:14 Sarah Belle Reid on the Fairfield Circuitry Roger That
8:07 Molten Music Tech on the Blukać Endless Processor

Moog Grandmother playing Voodoo People

video upload by fischek

"After fiddling with my grandmother for a while (sounds very wrong :D) I've stumbled upon a sound that resembles the one used by Prodigy, so decided to record it just for fun...

Btw, I know Liam Howlett used to own a Moog Prodigy (hence the name) and am now wondering if that' the one he used for getting this sound."

Analogue Synthesizer, Minimoog, Alesis Andromeda, Prophet 6, Macbeth M5, Eurorack

video upload by David Bessell

"Seventh Window - A track from the album Imaginator by Dave Bessell and Liam Boyle. You can find the full album here https://davebessellandliamboyle.bandc...
Released on Groove Unlimited.

The video is by Sam Cox and you can find his youtube channel here"

"Dave Bessell and Liam Boyle first met on Facebook through an interest in Node. Liam has a very wide range of mu-sical interests and skills including the classical avant garde so Dave invited him to a performance of one of his classi-cal modernist pieces for orchestra at Plymouth University. The two hit it off and first collaborated on a track called Theme One from Dave’s solo electronic album ‘Black Horses of the Sun’. It was always on the cards that these two would collaborate further and in 2020 the opportunity arose which resulted in this latest album ‘Imaginator’ their first on Groove Unlimited.

Liam has produced a number of film socres for american independent films as well as recording multiple electronic albums such as ‘Off World’ and more recently ‘Waveforms’ He continues to explore electronic sound design, visuals, guitar and classical compositions

Dave Bessell, founder member of synth group Node, has been releasing a series of fascinating solo and collaborative EM albums over recent years, mainly on DiN records. He also has a lengthy back story involving session playing programming and arranging for a variety of artists and labels including Killing Joke and Suede. Along the way he also picked up a Phd in classical orchestration from the Royal College of Music.

This latest collaboration is the first full album with versatile soundtrack and EM composer Liam Boyle. It is also the first release for these artists on Groove Unlimited. The musical emphasis here is on both melody and sonic explora-tion with an atmospheric soundtrack feel throughout. Not surprising really considering both artists have seperately worked on soundtracks - from independent films to TV. The music is detailed and multilayered repaying close and repeated listening and is realised entirely with analogue hardware, plus a little heavily treated and disguised guitar. Dave also uses an unusual instrument on a couple of tracks called an Aum guitar which is designed to be played with an ebow and sounds nothing like a guitar!

Imaginator by Dave Bessell and Liam Boyle

Analogue synth, Eurorack, modular, Dave Bessell, Liam Boyle, 360 , VR, ambient, psychedelic visuals video upload by David Bessell

"New release from Dave Bessell (Node) and Liam Boyle (soundtrack composer) on Groove Unlimited. The album is titled Imaginator and was released on 1st Jan 2022.

A compelling release of electronic music on the borders between ambient, soundtrack and Berlin school with wide ranging influences from prog to techno, the Bowie/Eno electronic collaborations, Krautrock, classical and probably some more things that we forgot to list! As such it is a varied album with melodic tracks, atmospheres and creative sound design using the full range of analogue keyboards and modular synths along with a little treated guitar. On a couple of tracks an unusual instrument appears called an Aum guitar which is designed to be played with an ebow and sounds nothing like a guitar! Overall it is a good showcase for what can be done with these instruments in the hands of these experienced and well respected musicians.

This release also has an interesting immersive promotional video filmed in 360/VR. [above]

Available from bandcamp and the Groove Unlimited website as CD or download. This one will repay repeated listenings as it reveals its multiple layers."

Sneaker Pimps Oxford Synthesiser Company Oscar Synthesiser

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This is a very rare OSCar Synthesiser with MIDI manufactured by the only British synth producers The Oxford Synthesiser Company in 1984. It has been recently serviced by CYBERWAVE EMS vintage synth repair specialists.

It works perfectly.

This is owned by cult band Sneaker Pimps (keyboarder player and synth aficionado Liam Howe). It has featured on many modern records.

It has been owned by Liam since 1984 (it’s birth) and has been kept with care.

However it has incurred the odd cosmetic injury in its busy and much loved life."
