New Synthesis Coming in KORG OASYS OS 1.3 Update?

Saw this one on sequencer.de:

"MOD-7 Waveshaping VPM Synthesizer
New EXi MOD-7 Waveshaping VPM Synthesizer with „classical” synthesis procedure, whose flexibility was increased here in the almost immeasurable. A demo version is contained in system V1.3."

sequencer.de states: "it does not look like 6 OP FM or something since Korg never did complex FM, but possibly something new or different since they tell us it is 'unbeliavable and unlimited'.

As of this post there is only mention of the 1.2 OS on the OASYS site.

If you know more, feel free to comment.

KORG EX-800

images via this auction.
"The EX-800 is a programmable synth-module that works as a sound source for any MIDI keyboard (DW8000, Poly-80011, RK100, etc.)
or other MIDI control device such as computer or synthesizer. For real versatility, it responds to eight kinds of MIDI data:
# key data
# pitch bends
# modulation
# sequencer clock
# program change
# volume
# computer dump
# active sensing

The MIDI THRU jack allows series connection with additional EX-800s or other MIDI units. This is an easy way to add extra musical power to your system with but a small investment. The EX-800 has eight voices, 64-program memory, and a built-in 256-step polyphonic sequencer. Dual DCOs and triple ADBSSR DEGs permit rich tonal variation and flexible envelope shaping. There's even a tape interface."

Yamaha CS50

images via this auction.

"From 1975, it's the little brother of the Yamaha CS80 (the famous "Blade Runner" Synth). This board was amazingly ahead of it's time in it's polyphonic implementation. If you recall, the majority of the big names at that time were strictly monophonic. This guy came out and featured 4 key polyphony and an early form of aftertouch that can affect the filter, VCO or LFO. There is also a auxillary input to run sounds through the side panel which I have used on a couple of tracks. Small or not, this still weighs close to 100 lbs and is the size of a small organ. There is a really great sounding ring modulator for crazy sci fi sound, 13 presets and a full synthesizer section including both HP and LP resonant filters. BTW: Check out the last pic of Herbie Hancock from the "Sunlight" album. You'll see a CS50 behind him, over his right shoulder!"

"If you're into little tiny home keyboards of the past, this is about the rarest of the rare. The Casio PT-7 is a bizarre two-piece box with a detachable capacitive keyboard, and a bunch of preset sounds and rhythms. It has a nice, thick, fuzzy tone, and works equally well using AA batteries or an adapter."

Custom MOOG Minimoog and Oberheim SEM

This one via michael:

"i just picked up an awesome rig and figured i'd share it with my fav synth blog.

the rig consists of a minimoog (#6536) (i'm thinking it is the discrete VCO board but I don't know a lot about mini's maybe you or your readers would know more) and an Oberheim SEM. It also came with a moogerfooger ring modulator which I haven't used yet. The mini has been modified, so the Loudness Control Input is now a CV out, and the S-trig input is no an S-trig output, both used for controlling the SEM. Also, the external input of the mini has been routed to automatically mix with VCO-2. there is no level control for the external signal input anymore, but the on-off switch for VCO2 controls both VCO2 and the external input. the external input section on the front panel has been converted to a sync section to sync VCO2 to VCO1. the external input mixer switch turns sync on and off, and the external input volume knob controls the amount of VCO-mod from the filter envelope (when sync is on) This mod rules, and this system is a 5 discrete beast that sounds amazing, no sound samples yet (i have no means to here at home) but i've posted a few hi-res pics i just took. the only problems with the rig is that the mini's keyboard could use a new set of bushings. i'll probably buy a set, i think this rig deserves it! the mods were supposedly done by kurt's amps and keys more than 15 years ago (but not 100% sure of the date of the mods)

dig the red paint job!"

Very nice. Click here for a couple more images. Thanks michael!

YMO's BTM w/ Prophet '08

"My band did a cover of YMO's Behind The Mask and I used a Prophet-5 and Multitrak on the recording. This evening I replaced the six Prophet-5 tracks entirely with the Prophet-08. The only remaining synth track that is not a Prophet'08 is the background arpeggiated sequence.

http://redmartian.com/BTM-Prophet08.mp3

And if you're curious, here is the version with the Prophet-5 which was actually mixed by Tom Ellard:

http://redmartian.com/btm.m4a

I think the P'08 does a pretty good job. What I'm doing now, and for the next 2 weeks, is only play it. Then I'll turn on a Prophet-5 and see how I react. :)"

KORG Poly-61

images via this auction.

"The Korg Poly-61 was released in 1982 as the successor to the Polysix. It was somewhat of a step up [not really - the Polysix is more highly regarded] from the Polysix, as it has 2 DCOs for better reliability. It also retained the arpeggiator of the Polysix. It has a very dirty sharp sound much like the Yamaha DX7. This is good if you are into the lo-fi sound of electronica. The Poly-61 can provide cool gritty basses or trippy analog sounds and fx.

Also added is the familiar Korg joystick, which can be used to modulate the VCO or the VCF. However, its filter only has 7 steps of resonance and is not as fat as the Polysix's filter. It also uses the same method of programming the Poly-800 and Yamaha DX-7

Specifications:
Polyphony - 6 Voices Oscillators - DCO1:sawtooth, pulse, and square; DCO-2: sawtooth, square LFO - 1 LFO can modulate the DCOs or the Filter Filter - 1 lowpass filter w/ ADSR Memory - 64 patches VCA - ADSR Keyboard - 61 keys Arpeg/Seq - Arpeggiator with external sync Effects - Chorus Control - MIDI (on later Poly-61M models) Date Produced - 1982 - 1986"

Third Annual Austin Analog Synthesizer Party!

Bring your analog synths (remember an extension cord and a stand) and BRING HEADPHONES!

CORON DS7 Drum Synce Clone

"The DS7 Drum Synce (DC860) is a little analog percussion synthesizer from the 80's made by CORON. This drumsynth was dedicaced to drummers : the DS7 was fixed on the border of a drum to be played/triggered by hitting the drum.

The DS7 contain a VCO +VCA chain. The VCO is modulated by a cheesy LFO and a simple decay envelope trigged by the piezzo cell pulse. The cell work as a pressure/hit sensor. It can be replaced by a jack to be used with any kind of trigg pulses or even gates. In this case the "decay" pot become a "Release" pot ... The VCA is directly controled by the envelope. The LFO can drive the VCO from slow modulation to hi-speed to produce FM like sounds." click here for more.

Buchla 207

via this auction

This one is being auctioned off by Ezra Buchla, Don Buchla's son.

"This is a Buchla model 207 mixer and preamplifier from the 200 series, made sometime in the early 1970's. It is quite rare and consists of all original components.

The mixer section includes 6 input channels, 4 of which have manual control over location, and two of which have voltage control of location. This section also includes a third, independently switchable mono output bus.

The pre-amplifier section has a single 1/4" input, three switchable gain/impedance settings and a potentiometer for finer gain control."
