the 8-note keyboard can play three different scales-- this one is a pentatonic that takes notes 1 2 4 5 6 from the major diatonic scale.

It has two-note polyphony.

There are three envelope presets- this one is long attack + long release.

The sound is being recorded through my noisy little laptop mic, which accounts for the buzz you hear. The Hot Keyz has one on-board speaker, with stereo output via the 1/8" headphone jack."

"The CRV-24 is a four band crossover with 24 dB/octave for all slopes. Crossover frequencies can be controlled manually and by attenuable CV signals.

The incomming signal INPUT is splitted in four bands; LP (low pass filter), MID1 (high/low pass), MID2 (high/low pass) and HP (high pass filter).

It's an ideal module combined with other modules when the audio frequencies can be splitted in four frequency bands.

An example; a 'Spectral Delay' with splitted audio bands for one of each delay lines inserted to the DEL-4 audio inputs."

"The tone has so much muscle that with external effects you can achieve some very cool sounds. Its a mono-keyboard, which means you can only play one note at a time.. but it would be extremely muddy if you could play more than one. Just have to remember to tune before every performance, and to take it in every once in a while to make sure all the notes are in tune with each other. Sounds awesome overdriven through a loud and shitty bass amp. In its purist form it mimics the low-end of an organ but with less warbling or reediness. Also good for a very full 60's bass sound or something to hold down the low end in a buzzy synth band.

CONTROLS:
The bass boost lever boosts the bass (there's not much to it without the lever all the way up). The TONE switch chooses either a low fat bass or a brighter version. The difference is not immediately apparent unless you also have on the next switch... FUZZ which turns the tone nasty. MODE acts as a kind of attack envelope; SUSTAIN has a relatively short attack but still soft, while PERCUSSION creates a light percussive "pop" at the beginning of the note...very subtle but adds punch. DECAY set to "slow" will let the note fall away a bit after you take your finger off the key, while "fast" means the sound stops as soon as you lift up on the back, there are metal knobs to adjust FINE TUNING and LEVEL." Oberheim OB-X

"The Oberheim OB-X is an analog polyphonic synthesizer. It was the first Oberheim synthesizer that was created with internal prewired modules and not with the bulky SEM modules. Because of this, it was more functional for live performance, not to mention more portable. It was introduced in 1979 and was discontinued in 1981. It came in four, six, and eight-voice models.

This is the eight-voice version, actually SO OLD our resident synth guy who looked inside it said it's made by putting modules from two four-voice versions together. That's why we think this one is an earlier one. Also note the slightly different graphics (OB-X logo on the lower right above the keys, instead of the top left).

Besides the generous polyphony, each OB-X came with a memory capable of holding 32 user-programmable presets, along with polyphonic portamento, and polyphonic sample and hold. The OB-X was in direct competition with the Sequential Circuits Prophet-5. Capable of lush analog synth sounds comparable to the Sequential Prophet 5 but at a reasonable price. The OB-X also gives you Polymod functionality, something that the OB-Xa and OB-8 do not have."

"Also known as the Juno/MKS-50 programmer. The Roland Alpha Juno 1 and 2 synthesizers were released in the mid 80's to widespread popular acclaim. The MKS-50 is the rack-mount version. These synths sound incredible. But......Roland made PROGRAMMING these synths OPTIONAL. They designed the PG-300 as an optional programmer allowing full, real-time control and editing of all of the parameters of the synthesizer (with real sliders and switches for every function) And what control it is... There are 25 sliders and 11 switches. Very kewl for real-time control. Thru MIDI Exclusive messages, the programmer does its magic, while sitting ON TOP of the Juno Synthesizer (or free-standing, in the case of controlling the MKS-50)."

MOOG Voyager Old School #1 Rolls of The Assembly Line

Yesterday marked a historical day at MOOG Music. Serial number 1 of the Voyager Old School rolled off the production line. You can find images of it along with serial numbers 1-3 here.

The images include:
- The front of Serial #1 Old School.
- Serial numbers 1 - 3 stacked up in burn in and awaiting shipping.
- The top of Serial #1 Old School. The careful observer will notice a few more CV outputs than the released prototype pictures.

- The guts of the Old School. Those that have seen the inside of a Voyager may be asking where did everything go? Note how clean this design is.

- A PCB easter egg! Look closely and you will see a BUG in the OS (pun intended). There apparently are more of these on the board.

Note that yesterday also marked the following:
1) The first OS went to shipping. It was actually built the day before but had to go though burn in and test, so it was not finished until yesterday.
2) The last little Phatty Stage Edition V1 was built - next build will all be SE 2.0 with a revised chassis.
3) The PCB for the, hopefully, production version of the multi pedal was laid out and sent to the fabricator to be made.

The Vocoder Plus contains three tone-generating sections: Vocoder, Human Voice and Strings, which may be independently assigned to cover the whole keyboard, or either the upper or lower half.

The String section produces orchestral string sounds that are silky and warm feeling, and most importantly, consistent throughout the entire length of the keyboard. The Tone and Attack Time of the String section can be controlled inependently, and the Release Time is hared with the two other sections.

The Human Voice section literally defies description with its uncanny resemblance to a chorus of human voices. The upper half of the keyboard contains one female and one male chorus, while the lower half contains two male choruses. There is also an ensemble effect which increases the dimension of the vocal chorus.

The Vocoder section, like our rack-mounting Vocoder (SVC-350), processes the spoken or sung human voice (program), analyzing its character and using this information to modify another musical signal (carrier). The Vocoder section uses ten analysis filters for vowel sounds, and there is also an additional filter that is used for consonants. The Vocoder section uses as a carrier signal the combined components of the Human Voice and String section

'Those instruments are very sensual and organic and you can have a very poetic approach to it.

'The difference between noise and music is the hand of the musician.

'It's the reason why I wanted to present Oxygene, which I've never played before in its entirety in a concert, to share this experience in a different venue, with proximity to the audience, to share the experience with the audience in a different context.'"

From 1860 - The First Sample Ever?

"For more than a century, since he captured the spoken words 'Mary had a little lamb' on a sheet of tinfoil, Thomas Edison has been considered the father of recorded sound. But researchers say they have unearthed a recording of the human voice, made by a little-known Frenchman, that predates Edison’s invention of the phonograph by nearly two decades.

The 10-second recording of a singer crooning the folk song “Au Clair de la Lune” was discovered earlier this month in an archive in Paris by a group of American audio historians. It was made, the researchers say, on April 9, 1860, on a phonautograph, a machine designed to record sounds visually, not to play them back. But the phonautograph recording, or phonautogram, was made playable — converted from squiggles on paper to sound — by scientists at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, Calif."

Cloud Generator Expansion module (CGX)

This is an image of the MOTM Cloud Generator Expansion module LCD being tested. Some details on the expansion module:

"* 5 Expansion jacks, comprising:
SAW OUT
TRI OUT
CHAOS CV OUT - user defined DC voltage that is 'mapped' to one particular ChaosEngine element. So it's a wiggley voltage :)
PATCH SEL IN - when a jack is inserted, a negative voltage reduces the current patch # and a positive voltage increases the current patch #. -5V will be mapped to Patch #1, and +5V will be Patch #16 and intermediate voltages mapped accordingly.
AUX CV IN - a user defined CV input that can modulate a CG parameter, ie it has the same effect as 'turning the encoder knob' of that parameter. Mapped to -5V is minimum, +5V maximum, intermediate voltages mapped accordingly. 3U wide module."
