Audio Damage BigSeq2 Released

"BigSeq2 is a massive extension to the feature set of our popular BigSeq gate effect. With twelve sequencers controlling ten effects in six blocks, BigSeq2 is capable of everything from short staccato gate sequences to long, evolving filter sweeps and frequency shifts, and everything in between.

The six effect "Blocks" contain ten effects in total, and these Blocks can be re-arranged simply by dragging them, giving you full control over the routing of the effects. Each effect Block has a gate sequencer and a modulation sequencer. The gate sequencer turns that effect on and off (or in the case of the delay Block, activates the "send" control), while the modulation sequencer can affect any and all parameters in that block." SIEL DK600 / OPERA 6 SYNTH SIDE PANELS

via this auction

"Space-Age Polycarbonate Synthesizer End Cheeks!
Well, to be honest I'm not quite sure what these are made of, but if your Siel's sides are cracked and broken, these are just the thing to spruce the old girl up! In excellent condition, just a couple of minor scuffs on the edges, and no breaks or cracks. Includes original mounting screws, four per side, and easily user installable in about 10 minutes!
Check my other listings for more hard-to-find SIEL spare parts! Please note, these all come from a DK600, but it is my understanding that they are all compatible with the Opera 6 and KIWI as well, but I cannot confirm this personally."

Sunday Modcan Aleatory

"100% aleatoric (randomly generated) music generated while doing studio maintenance. No MIDI or sequencers are used for composition or playback. All modules are Modcan except for a Cynthia dual ADSR and a Synthesis Technology patch/multiple module."

Red MacBeth M5N

via Heath Finnie who has two new albums out. Ironically they do not feature the M5N, but it will be featured in a new release.

http://heathfinnie.com/

Some notes on the current albums:
"Two of my albums are now available on iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, etc. These are made of of songs/fragments that were worked on over the last few years. So these are compilations, but of things that have never been for sale before. "Sounds From Beneath the Floorboards" is a full albums worth of louder and nosier songs, and the ep "Moments Before the Eclipse" is a mix of some louder and some more melodic songs. I'm putting together "The Leaves that are Brown" which is a compilation from the same period but will feature more mellow and even ambient recordings from the same time period. "

Synths used:
ARP Odyssey MK1
EML 101
EML 200
EML 400/401
EMS Synthi A
Korg MS-10
Korg MS-20
Moog Memorymoog Plus

JH Variable Slope Filter / Phaser

via JH on the AH list:
"I'm thinking about making PCBs for this.

A mean little module from my JH-3 Modular.

6 filter poles, realzed with OTAs and combined FET / Bipolar buffer stages.

Variable Slope function for 6-pole VC LPF.
Voltage controlled Pole Spread for Phaser mode.
Zeroes switcahbel in pairs, i.e. a lot of combinations of all pass and low
pass stages. Positive and negative feedback. Positive and negative wet/dry
mix. Rather special overdrive behaviour (Dirty!), and (IMO) pleasant way of
breaking into oscillation.

Old picture (from JH-3) [pictured]

Demo 1 (Arpeggio from OB-8, with delay and reverb. First few seconds dry - then playing with phaser.):
http://electro-music.com/forum/download.php?id=16715

Demo 2 ( This is something I recorded a few years ago. I don't remember all the details. But it was a Split on the OB-8, bass sound on left hand and organ sound on right hand, and the whole thing was processed with the Variable Slope Phaser / Filter to get that "pulsating" sound. Lots of delay and reverb as well, obviously.):

Admin: Top Navigation Updates

Some updates to the top nav:
1. I removed the VIDEO link. The link was just to the VIDEO label. Considering how often videos go up, it was redundant - you can find the VIDEO link at the bottom of each video post.
2. I added a new label called FEATURED. I post like a madman (30+ posts a day). One of the problems with this is some of the "more" interesting posts get buried quickly. I decided to create a FEATURED label for the posts I think stand out, and by stand out, I mean really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really stand out for me. Sorry I caught the really, really, really bug from my daughter. I'll be adding to the FEATURED label in time, so be sure to check it out now and then. This will hopefully make more posts sticky.
3. I added TWITTER, FLICKR, FLICKR POOL and EBAY to the top. FLICKR is a link to my flickr account with images people have sent in over time and including all the old auction images and more. FLICKR POOL is the new flickr group I set up for people to share their picks, and EBAY is a link to the US Ebay auctions I parse every night. I put it up there to make it easier for me.
4. I'm looking at a way to add a link to all comments for the site. That way you can see when people leave comments. If anyone knows of an easy way to do this in Blogger. Let me know.

Lainhart Live: Buchla and Films, March 28 Troy NY

via Richard Lainhart:
"Friends,
On Saturday, March 28 at 8 PM, I'll be presenting a solo concert of live electronic music at the Arts Center of the Capital Region, featuring new works and improvisations for high-definition film projection and synthesizer in quadraphonic sound. I will be performing with my Buchla 200e modular analog synthesizer, controlled by the Haken Continuum Fingerboard, an innovative 3-dimensional keyboard. I hope to see you there.

TR-808 internal sequencer vs. MIDI from Ableton

YouTube via pac209
"this short video shows the 808 first running on its own sequencer, then with MIDI notes coming from Ableton (with internal 808 sequencer stopped). The Ableton pattern has also typical shuffle quantize.
Both modes (traditional 808 with sync in/ out OR special MIDI control of notes with some limited velocity and MIDI clock controlling the 808 sequencer) are possible with the built in interface."

A Fix for Optigan Pitch Problems

"Pitch stability is one of the biggest problems for Optigans. The rubber on the idler wheel gets hard or worn over the years, which makes the wheel slip against the tapered motor shaft. Old wheels can have other problems including notches or flat spots, which cause a knocking or grinding sound when the discs are played. I’ve tried to recondition the rubber and restore the gripping surface with chemicals and fine sandpaper, only to have the pitch problems return a few weeks later."

Blackbird Pi for Pi Day

BTW, Happy Pi Day!!! It's 3.14 today.

"Friends: here's the link to my contribution to Microsound's annual Pi Day audio celebration:

http://projects.interdisciplina.org/microsound/project.php?name=pi_day_2009

The rules were to use the values of Pi, in any way, to create a piece of music exactly 3 minutes 14 seconds long. My piece, "Blackbird Pi" (the first one up), is the sound of 1000 migrating blackbirds recorded on the morning of March 6, 2009, timestretched to 3.14 seconds and spectrally transformed with 3.14159 entered into the plugin value fields wherever possible. I hope you enjoy it.

A theme for my Muse

YouTube via attorks

"I dedicate this theme to my Muse. I tried to keep the theme modest and subtle like my Muse. At first you hear a sequence from the Synthesizers.com Modular driven by row 1 of the Doepfer MAQ16/3. After that the VCF frequence is raised to hear the sequence from the self built Modular driven by MAQ's row 2. The 3rd sequence comes from the Creamware MiniMax ASB which is driven by MAQ's row 3. The strings are performed by the AKAI AX80 and the solo's are played on the Clavia Nord Lead 1 and the Korg 900PS (Accordion preset with Traveler on 3.5).

I had to shorten the video almost 3 minutes because of the YouTube limit of 10 minutes. The original video is 12:42 long and you can see or download it from my website."

I am building 5 like this one, a black faced, 3 white faced, and a black yellow (EDP WASP look)
faced.

This is built into a Polycase ABS case. Runs off an AC adapter (included).
Im very impressed with the tracking of these Synths when Tuned correctly.
Mostly all 1% resistors used throughout. Nice smooth 24mm Alpha pots

"This is a simple project - i will build a clone of the Small Stone phaser as a floor effects unit with some modifications to add some more control over the sound.

Dur to the simplicity of this project, i decided to document all steps, starting with making the PCB for it, ending with the tests. So not all videos appear at once, but i think this should happen within 3 weeks or so. Make sure to come back and see if new parts appeared with the time.

This is part 4 showing mechanical work on the enclosure."
