Lancaster - Moog The Source
Published on Apr 29, 2017 100 Things I Do
"A quick Sunday noodle with the Moog Source.
I got The Source many years ago and until I got my Mood Model D I just assumed they sounded the same. I was originally intending to sell the Source when I got the D but it became apparent immediately that they were 2 very different instruments.
The Osc Sync and Variable pulse with add different flavour. The envelope on the filter acts much slower and as such the sound moves around quite a bit with long release times.
I called it Lancaster as it reminded me of the Drone sound in the old World War II films the big bombers always had.
I hope you enjoy this lil demo."

"This is a monophonic bass synthesizer produced between 1975-1977. This one is tested and working! It has some minor wear in the form of paint scratches. It also has a small dent in the left front trim. Its missing its suitcase lid and clasps. All of its switches and sliders feel nice and work properly. There are lot of things to love about this little guy! First and foremost, the most massive mono bass sound Ive ever heard!!! The filter aka "traveler" sounds fat and smooth. The pitch slider makes it easy to use with samples, or live players. 2 octaves of full-sized keys makes left-handed bass a joy. This is a rare and special instrument, it possesses a magical sound quality and is especially easy to use. Sounds fantastic through a bass amp!"

Access Virus FM Power | Synthmorph Sequences
Published on Apr 28, 2017 SynthMorph
"https://synthmorph.com/products/acces...
Virus FM Power is not just a distinct soundset of 94 presets based on FM synthesis capabilities of Access Virus, but also contains 20 special morphing Synthmorph MIDI sequences."
"Although the classic Access Virus B and Virus C are primarily virtual analog synthesizers, they are armed with a simple two-operator FM mode applying frequency modulation synthesis. Despite this simple 'pseudo-FM' structure, Virus uses some clever methods to extend the range of possible FM sounds into its own unique territory of amazing sonic landscapes.
As this synthesizer has a special frequency modulation character, it proved to be a rewarding idea to dig deep into this part of the Virus and making presets using its FM-only features. What does it mean? The filters are usually completely off (as the original Yamaha DX7 did not have a filter at all), but the unison modes, the arpeggiator and the otherwise powerful distortion are hardly used too. Even the built-in effects were used differently – they are disabled most often!
The idea was to create pure, punchy, bright FM sounds. While the presets were inspired by some classic FM presets, a Virus always encourages you to break the rules and create something beyond the ordinary: you can use these sounds not just for synthwave, ambient, techno, edm, pop, psy, house or trap, but basically for any purpose.
The sonic palette is varied: deep and raspy FM basses, crystal clear keys, tinkling mono leads, animated pads and sharp plucks, often spiced up with some irregular yet controlled atonal, aliased, and droning nature."

"Worng give us a great presentation of their Mid Side Matrix module the LRMSMSLR. We start with two oscillators detuned and hard panned then audio rate stereo width manipulation creating some hard stereo sideband ring mod style action. Then move onto creating stereo FX from mono modules. By using the side output into a mono Music Thing Modular Spring Reverb we can then decode that for a stereo spring reverb sound ... crazy! I think I need a few of these."

Introduction to Eurorack Expansion
Introduction to Eurorack Expansion from Learning Modular on Vimeo.
"The introductory movie to my upcoming course 'Learning Modular Synthesis: Eurorack Expansion.' This course will look at classic examples of the wide variety of modules available in each category such as oscillators, filters, modulators, and more, giving you a better idea what to look for in a module, and how to put it to use once you add it to your modular system. This will also help you learn what feature enables what sound or technique, so you will be better informed when you go shopping for modules.
This course will be available through Lynda.com and LinkedIn Learning in July 2017, and will be supplemented with weekly updates on LearningModular.com. In the meantime, check out this article on choosing important utility or 'glue' modules you will probably need to best take advantage of new modules you add to your semi-modular or core full-modular system: http://learningmodular.com/the-eurorack-expansion-host-rack/"

"Legendary synth by Chris Huggett, the ultra rare EDP Gnat Special!
This was recently serviced by SRS in March 2017 and studio ready or a collectors piece.
As you can see there is a scratch on the key bed which we were going to replace originally however decided against this to retain all original features. This does not affect the functionality of the synth in anyway and is strictly superficial.
Very minor wear to the wood casing which truly is a work of craft.
The base has the handwritten serial no 00088 (reported only 100 were made!)"

SUPERBOOTH17 – Close to 5000 visitors at FEZ Berlin
The following is the final press release on this year's SUPERBOOTH. For some perspective, we had 227 Superbooth17 posts here on MATRIXSYNTH so far, more are sure to trickle in. NAMM2017 came in at 209 posts, and Musikmesse2017 had only 19 posts. Note the number of posts that come in are just a reflection of what attendees capture at each event.
"Berlin, April 29th 2017
The 2nd edition of SUPERBOOTH left the organizers jaded but fulfilled. Summing up, SUPERBOOTH17 beats last year's edition by far with 70 new exhibitors, more concerts and more visitors to the FEZ Berlin. The new venue, though not built for this purpose, shows how well a fair for electronic musical instruments fits into the ex - GDR "Pionier-Palast". The stage, the foyer and the outdoor area with the Seaside-Stage offered a framework that was very well received by exhibitors and visitors alike.
Many exhibitors took new product developments unseen by the public eye to SUPERBOOTH. This is something which can be perceived as acknowledgement of the fair's meaning. The manufacturer's trust in the work of Andreas Schneider and his team paid off well. Visitor numbers have considerably increased also as a consequence of the cultural events and again offering top notch, iconic and unusual content from all stems of electronic music.
A new feature this year was the screening of the cinema films, i.e. fans and other interested visitors were given the chance to view the Berlinale film "Denk ich an Deutschland in der Nacht" before official theatre release. Another new element that entered the mix were workshops for school children (ages 7-15) in which a performance was developed and put onstage in conjunction with (among others) the Teichmann Bros from Regensburg and Berlin. From this type of workshop, a new way of teaching shall guide a new generation into music making, far away from old methods like learning to play recorder or triangles.
The SUPERBOOTH concept bears fruit - In front of the four main stages and through the hallways, one could hear voices saying: "next year we'll be back”. Interest in SUPERBOOTH is as big because it is like a fresh breeze for conventional trade fair patterns or platforms. The fair is closer to what electronic musical instruments should be about - the music - and not profit margins and sales figures. The most frequently posed question arising over the weekend was about the prospect for the next coming SUPERBOOTH. Which direction is it headed?
Andreas Schneider and his team would like to express their explicit thanks to all exhibitors, artists, media representatives, trade visitors and last but not least the numerous public visitors for their continued and new support over three marvelous days!
Please find more information and impressions of the fair on the SUPERBOOTH website:

As used by orchestral manoeuvres in the dark (OMD) On 'ENOLA GAY', 'MESSAGES' and also 'ELECTRICITY' music tracks. Although the synth has no CV or GATE control, there are a few websites that show how easy it can be added. As it stands, the synth is completely un-modified."
