BPMC Circuit Bent Panasonic WJ Ave3 Video FX Synth

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated. via this auction
videos at the auction and below.
"Modified WJ-Ave3 video effects processor. w/ Control box, a hand crafted manual & patch cables.

Note: Although I am associated with Folktek this work is unaffiliated with Folktek.

This is the ultimate live glitch visual production tool. Every professional VJ should have one of these in their arsenal. It has an amazing way of fragmenting, fractalizing and freaking whatever video you process through it. It works with composite video only (RCA).

This WJ has TWO modes of operation:

SOUND VISUALIZATION MODE:

By plugging a well-amplified audio signal in to the modified AVE-3 you can profoundly glitch the visuals in a variety of unique ways.. all in real-time. Just take a look at the videos below. This mode is good for veejays, performance artists or art installations.

VIDEO SYNTH MODE:

Without sound you can use the control box to hone in on a variety of glitch effects and looks, some not possible in sound visualization mode. This mode is good for post production, experimental film & masking/overlays.

Of course both modes can be combined. In fact it is encouraged.

All original functions of this mixer work cleanly. And the control box for this one has 2 patchable pots and two patchable push buttons.

The original physical condition of this unit is a 8/10. Very clean.

This device is perfect for:
Adding a unique look to your indie tv/film/event production.
Providing you with a variety of effects you can't get with After Effects.
Live professional VJ work .
Making dubstep or chillwave music videos (ha!).
Lo-fi enthusiasts.
Inducing epilepsy.

This device was made to last. Although a device of this nature is fragile by design I have gone through great lengths to ensure that this device stands the test of time. It has been tightly assembled, designed with thought and built with solid parts.

Note: You really have to crank incoming audio to see visualizations. Just the nature of the beast. You will need a mixer with a good heaphones out or aux out to drive this beast.

Note: Unlike most circuit bent video devices this device does NOT need a TBC unit in order to prevent projector drop-out.

Feel free to e-mail any questions you may have in regards to this device. Shipping is free.

KVgear Vixen Mixer for Korg Volcas Now on Kicktarter

Published on Oct 4, 2017 Mike Rafferty

"Demonstration of prototype KVgear Vixen mixer. All audio was recorded directly from the headphone output of the Vixen into the video camera. Outboard effects on Aux 1 and Aux 2 of the mixer are Strymon Dig dual delay (my favorite!) and Strymon BigSky. For more information see kvgear.com/products/vixen-mixer"

via Kickstarter

"This is the mixer Volca lovers have been wanting for years: 8 audio channels, panning, mutes, 2 aux sends/returns, and onboard power for 8 Volcas. It can be powered by batteries or the included AC power adapter. All this fits into the footprint of a single Volca!

The images below are of the special limited edition blue version. The standard version will be black. See more info at the bottom of this page.

The Vixen has 3.5 mm (1/8") mini jacks on each audio channel for easy connection to small synths without the need for adapters. Your adapter-less existence continues as you connect to/from external effects boxes and monitors through standard 6.35 mm (1/4") jacks.

Visibility is important, whether you're in a dimly lit studio or outdoors in the sun. All knobs on the Vixen have painted indicator lines. Graphics on the control panel are crisp, clear and as large as possible. The translucent top panel allows LEDs to be visible for Mute, Power, and VU meters.

The Vixen has the same footprint as a Volca, allowing it to fit into most Volca stands and racks. KVgear stands such as the Lobe V3 and V4, Volc 45-2, -3, and -4, and Ramp Racks (3 sizes) are perfect matches for the Vixen.

The Vixen can be powered by any of three sources: external AC mains power supply (included), internal AA batteries (batteries not included), or an external mega battery that you provide. All synths connected to the power hub (using optional power cables) can draw power directly from the Vixen, eliminating piles of batteries or wall warts.

Eurorack Modular Review by Hefix93 of Velvet Acid Christ

Hefix93 of Velvet Acid Christ sent the following review of his new Eurorack format modular synth featuring Doepfer, Plan b, Livewire and a Kenton Pro Solo for MIDI to CV. You will find samples at the end of the review.

"Kenton pro solo: Amazing midi to cv converter, its tight, real tight with logic sending it midi. i like the portamento and other things i can get out of it.. very good, worth every peny, also can do extra cv modulations with the aux out jack.

Plan b model 15 osc: The saw wav on this is simply mystifying. huh? i mean it is the meanest saw i have ever messed with. PWM is not so great, no attenuator and there is only active pulse on the pwm knob from 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock (don't know if this is standard on all modulars, as this is my first) this really irritates me [Update: this is addressed at the end of this review by Peter Grenader of Plan b]. I got neat fm sounds, and sync. the sine is pretty cool. The small frequency knob really kinda irks me, its so hard to dial in any kind of tuning, which makes this a real bummer for live use. I hope i can get the pwm to work how i want in the future, if so, this osc will probably me favorite of all time. Seriously rips. This thing is so mean. I want to have him build me a custom osc based on this model 15 with all the things i want. i hope he will. I want a osc octave switch, pwm attenuator and a bigger freq knob that isn't so overly sensitive and hard to tune (granted, these are the first modular oscillators i have used so). I seriously love this osc.

doepfer a-118 Noise/random: wow, i love the colored noise on this module. and the random voltage thing is kinda neat as a modulator on my filter and other things. nice.

doepfer a-138 mixer: Wow this sounds decent. if you over drive this past 7, it gets pretty aggressive, great for the kind of music i do. nice..

doepfer a-131 VCA: Again decent sounding, and man if you go past 7, it gets real mean. i love it..

doepfer a-143 quad lfo: nice to have 4 lfos, i like the speed switch, this goes real slow and nice and fast. i love it. better than most synth lfos i've had. Can go real fast in the high mode, fm audio. nice...

doepfer a-125: this is the best phaser i've ever had, and i haven't had many, makes the phaser in the virus ti sound like a toy..can sound real thick and heavy, very psychedelic. wow. this will make my psy trance tracks kick major butt..

doepfer a-188-1 1024 bbd: Very cool short delay that does chorus and flange ok, not the best i've heard, the modcan sounds the best so far. but for strange detuned rubber band delay modulation sci fi weird stuff, this thing really rocks, but it makes me wish i had room for the 188-2 instead.. hrmm... still really good for the money.

doepfer a-140 adsr: Very snappy. i mean this thing handled my 160 bpm bass duties at 16th notes very well. better than most stuff i have owned. i have not tried to make kick drums yet or other percussion, so i don't know how well it does there. but for bass and leas, out standing fast poppy envs. i have not messed with the other speed settings other than the m. and that suits my needs so far. i got two of these. and man, i'm loving it.... so fast tho, they can pop, you have to mess with the attack and release a tad, but man. it snaps..

doepfer 1-180 multiples: what can i say, they split the multiply a signal by 3. awesome. does its job well. i get 1 in and 3 out x2 per module, i got 2 of these..

Livewire Frequensteiner multimode filter: i saved the best for last. what can i say, this thing is aggressive, and man, it is simply the best multimode filter i have ever owned. The low pass is very aggressive, as is the bandpass, and the highpass, but man, the high pass is the best on this filter. it hisses and bites and cuts in a mix so well, i cannot explain how much i love it. But honestly i really like all the filter modes a lot. if i push the audio input past 7 or 8, it over drives and gets really mean, i mean super pissed. AMAZING. This thing is worth every penny, i love the knobs, and the nice big frequency knob is much loved here. What other multimode filters have i owned? nordlead, jp8080, virus up to the ti, the jupiter 6, the andromeda. This thing is sick, i mean so great, i cannot rave bout it enough. This is now my favorite synth filter ever. Even beating out my love for the minimoog and jupiter 8 filters.. i'm just into that aggressive exciting sound this thing gives me.

I sold my roland jupiter 8 for this [posted here]: i am not looking back, i love that old vintage lush instruments. but i needed something with more balls and bite and aggression, i got it. What i am able to pull of with this is amazing seriously mean bass and leads, that cut on all frequencies of the spectrum. And all the strange ufo sci blips and beeps that modulars are know for as well. This doesn't sound vintage, it has its own new sound, its stable and alive, but very precise and tight. zippy, and responsive. so much more so than i am used to. the modulations in the andromeda were sluggish and oogy, this is lightning fast and responsive, just how i like it. I am so glad that i took this big step. Sure i have some issues with the implementations on the the plan b model 15 with its pwm strangeness, but other than that, i love it all. I took back my virus ti and vsynths because they just didn't cut into my analog drum machine and monosynth dominated mixes. This thing does. it can get in there with my sh2, and future retro revolution just fine. as to where my virus would sound all faint and wouldn't cut, even with the high pass, it would kinda get lost and not stand out. that is not a problem here with this system. This is why i love analog so much more in the kind of music i make, i need stuff that has presence in the mix. digital doesnt. ANALOG DOES!

Sure after it was all said and done, it cost me about $2750. I bought it all from Analogue Haven .. please if you do buy stuff because of these sound demos, tell them that you heard the clips from velvet acid christ and read this review. I want a hook up for getting him business. I'm addicted to this modular stuff, and i need all the help i can get now.. :) Shawn really is the one who help me build this system. He and i go way back. I'm so glad his store exists now. really helped me out here. i've been lusting after a fat system with a multimode filter for years. I FINALLY HAVE FOUND IT.. i'm so happy..

Oh and by the way, i made a bunch of quick sound demos of the this system doing the typical vac arp lines and basses. Feel free to check em out. I hope this gets you interested in modulars.. They are not just for strange blips and beeps, they can be great musical instruments as well. not just for the weird sci fi. take care.

Update via Peter Grenader of Plan b regarding PWM on the Plan b Model 15:"Morning...

The PWM construction is designed that way so that there are more possibilities for the VC input. I played around with this a lot while cooking the VCO, you're going to get some very interesting sounds when the manual offset is positioned to either the far left or right (either into the 'silent' zone) and a VC is applied to pull it back into audio that aren't availible otherwise. My PWM sound is unique, I wanted to keep it that way.

I think there is a misconception that by only having the square audible from 10 to 2 that you're loosing something. You're not - it's all there, it sweeps from full neg, through 0 to 100 duty cycle, then back from 100 to 0 to full positive. it just transverses that from the 10 o' clock pot setting to the 2 o clock pot setting. the balance of the pot regions, when the signal is zero is not wasted, it's there for VC possibilities.

If you own one of these, try it, you'll see what I'm speaking about. Move the pot to silence, apply and VC, then move the pot to so that the square isn't silent and apply the same VC. I didn't want to loose both effects.

hope this helps,

- P "

Endorphin.es BLCK NOIR (7 analogue drums with VCF, modulation, performance controls, FX & more!)

Published on Sep 6, 2018 DivKidVideo

"**TIMING INDEX / SECTIONS BELOW** Here's the new BLCK_NOIR from Endorphin.es. It's a 7 voice drum module with 7 all analogue and discrete circuit drum voices. There's kick, snare, tambourine, closed and open hi hats, metallic beat and cymbal. Endorphin.es say this is fine tuned for Darkwave and Techno but you can of course use it for a wide range of styles. It's got a classic early/vintage drum machine vibe similar to the CR-78 in nature but with a few updates. You can tune and adjust the length of the kick (as well as saturate the mix out with it) there's tuning and noise level / noise decay for the snare then 5 additional noise based voices that share blend controls to adjust from white or metallic noise and you can also bit crush these for further variation. There's CV inputs for noise blend, bit crush, bass drum decay and snare decay/noise. There's an on board isolator style filter that will low pass and high pass and a resonance control both with CV. You can clock the module which allows you to play fills holding the drum buttons and as a secondary function with no clock you can finger drum or mute those parts too. There's a bonus sample and hold generated when the module is clocked (great to patch back into the module). Not only can you trigger the drums but you can also control them with an on board VCA accepting 0-5V to control the velocity of each sound. There's individual outs, a mono mixed out, a stereo line level / headphones out and those 8 great 'Airways' FX we've seen in the Grand Terminal. There's a lot to get through so watch in full or skip around with the sections below which will link you to each part of the demo. Cheers! :)

New Waldorf M Wavetable Synthesizer

video upload by WaldorfMusicChannel

"Here is the brandnew Waldorf M Wavetable Synthesizer with analog filters and stereo VCA and much more to explore..."

"Sound demo for our brandnew Waldorf M Wavetable Synthesizer - no external effects and processing was used."

Waldorf M - Wavetable Synthesizer - Live Looping Ambient Session

video upload by

"This is the Waldorf M - Wavetable Synthesizer. In this track I used Ableton to live-loop four patches.

I will release more videos with the M, if you have any questions or want me to show a feature of the synth please let me know in the comments.

It is an honor to be part of the Waldorf beta testing team, I have been working with the synth for the last months and am very happy to finally show you what I have been doing with it. The factory library contains some of my own sounds, watch out for "MSt" when you test it at a shop or at home!"

Priced at:
1.879,00 € (~2,221.53 USD / ~£1,605.17)

"With M, we are musically returning to our roots by bringing back classic Microwave and ‘modern’ Microwave II tone generation as a new-generation classic hybrid wavetable synthesizer with an analogue lowpass 24 dB/Oct VCF — SSI 2144 Improved Ladder Type — with resonance and analogue saturation feature, true stereo analogue VCA with panning option, and much more to explore in a desktop-friendly form factor featuring a wide range of unique sounds. Plentiful presets — totalling 2,048 sound programs (divided into 16 banks, each with 128 sounds) — professionally programmed by world- renowned sound designers also include all of the classic Microwave sound sets, such as MW1 Factory Sound Set, MW1 Soundpool 1-5, the fat-sounding Analogue and Bassco, as well as PPG Wave 2.3 sounds cleverly converted for the original Microwave. Moreover, it also features freshly-programmed sounds utilising M’s myriad new features — from true hard Sync (when working in its Modern Microwave II/XT mode) to the ARP (arpeggiator) and MIDI-syncable global LFO (Low Frequency Oscillator).

But beating at M’s musical heart as an eight-voice polyphonic, four-part multitimbral WAVETABLE SYNTHESIZER — as boldly blazoned in red across its full-metal blue- coloured casing, itself hinting at its illustrious Microwave heritage — are two wavetable oscillators with independent wavetable-generating Classic Microwave 1 and Modern Microwave II/XT modes, meaning that the wavetable oscillators behave differently in both of those modes (accessible by pressing the Mode button beside the helpful high-resolution graphic display with four endless encoders for yet more hands-on control). Consequently, there is no hard Sync or ring modulation available in the Classic Microwave I mode, where 16-bit wavetables are bit-reduced to 8-bit and a 240 kHz non-anti-aliased sample rate is offered, whereas the Modern Microwave II/XT mode offers a 40 kHz sample rate with band-limited wavetables, although both oscillators — OSC 1 and OSC 2 — offer the same panel parameters.

Two LFOs are generating a periodic waveform with adjustable frequency Rate and Shape that can be used for modulation purposes, are also always at hand. However, unlike other Waldorf synthesizers, there is no modulation matrix in M. Making a conscious design decision to set up M’s modulation facilities directly on the corresponding display page, to paying tribute to the 1989-vintage Microwave.

Back in the here and now, M takes performance to a whole new level, thanks to that advanced ARP with 16 preset patterns, chord mode, and an ability to synchronise to MIDI clock. Furthermore, four programmable ENVELOPES allow adventurous users to manipulate sound parameters via rate or timed modulations.

Musically making a connection to the outside world is important to any synthesizer, so M offers six (rear panel-positioned) stereo analogue outputs — arranged as MAIN OUT (L/Mono and R) and AUX OUT (A, B, C, and D), the latter of which can be used to route each of the four Multi (multitimbral) parts to different outputs, if desired; a stereo headphone output (with an associated Volume knob in addition to the topside Master Volume knob); 5-pin MIDI IN, OUT, and THRU DIN connectors, complimented by a USB 2.0 MIDI port (for computer connection to transmit and receive MIDI data); an SD Card slot (for updating M’s firmware, importing/saving sound patches, and importing/saving M-specific data, such as user wavetables); and — last but not least — a Kensington® compatible security lock slot."

Sequentix Cirklon Sequencing Roland TB303 with Devil Fish Mod

Published on May 30, 2017 Meta Function

"In this video, Meta Function demonstrate sequencing a Roland TB303 with the Devil Fish mod via the Sequentix Cirklon.

The Cirklon is arguably the most intuitive and sturdy hardware sequencer ever made. It features five ports of MIDI I/O, four virtual USB ports and via the CVIO beak out box (BOB), sixteen CV and eight gate outputs. It has an incredibly tight clock and works great as the center of any electronic music based studio.

In this video the Fish receives note pitch and gate over CV/gate via the BOB. CV out 3 is connected to Accent in the Fish, with CV out 4 connect to Slide in. Inside the P3 pattern driving the Fish, Aux A is routed to CC 1 and Aux B is routed to CC 2, which in turn are routed within the Cirklon's CVIO Config menu to drive CV out 3 and 4 respectively. Whenever Aux A/B is over a value of 64, the measure features an accent/slide. A one bar pattern is created on the fly and slides and accents are added. Pattern direction modes are manipulated then drums from an Elektron Analog Rhytm are edited via a CK track. The one bar P3 Fish pattern is doubled and edited and transpose and force to scales modes are manipulated. Note measures are ganged/unganged and note lengths are tweaked. Finally the timebase is adjusted.

Audio recorded via Calrec S2 console and SSL convertors. All dry, no FX, EQ or compression. The only post production performed was normalization.

Watch at 1080p with good quality audio monitoring for the best experience.

Meta Function developed the Max For Live synthesizer, the Wave Junction in partnership with Sonicstate.com. A four voice paraphonic synth with 2 multi-mode osc, three multi-mode filters, 5 LFOs, 5 Envs and a 12 slot modulation matrix.

You can buy it from Sonicstate right here for £19.95:

Note: Ableton Live 9.6.1 and Max4Live 7.2.2 required."

We thought a lot about how a VC Mixer would work in a modular synth context and Haven really championed the idea of focusing on VC Aux sends since this would allow for really complex and interesting automated mixing of FX and dub style sound manipulation.
We have tried to conserve size while not sacrificing the space needed for proper playability. This mixer is low noise, low bleed with clickless muting and fast clean VCAs. All the inputs and summing busses have soft clipping to help get warm sounds if you really push the mixes. It has been amazing to hook tup fx to this, automate the panning and get totally dubbed out sounds!

DUBMIX:
28HP
4 inputs, each with 6dB gain and soft clipping
VC Pan for each input channel
VC Aux send for each input channel (with pre and post switch)
Illuminated CLICKLESS mute buttons for each channel (special circuit design by David Dixon)
VC Master level
VC Master AUX A send
Stereo AUX returns
Dedicated output for sum of muted channels
Stereo Master Output
4 stage VU meter with switches to select monitoring of Aux A bus or Mute Bus.
Soft clipping on all summed input and output busses.
Header to connect master output via cable to uJack"

"volca mix is the long-awaited mixer for the volca series. The volca mix is a four-channel analogue performance mixer that lets you construct a live setup combining multiple volca units.

Volume faders are easy to control, plus crisp-sounding LO/HI CUT filters, and a master chain that radically transforms the sound. In addition to the sync function found on all volcas, there are also DC output connectors that can supply power for up to three volca units. Numerous functions to facilitate your on-stage volca performances have been packed into a high-quality aluminum-paneled body, reminiscent of a high-end DJ mixer.

The volca mix will unlock the maximum potential of the volca series.

An analog mixer for performance.

The volca mix is a four-channel analog mixer with an intuitive interface and plenty of connectivity. It provides two mono inputs and one stereo input, perfect for connecting three volca units. The jacks are mini-jacks, allowing you to make connections with just one stereo mini-cable from the headphone out of each volca unit. The channel volumes use vertical faders that allow precise control. The gain can be boosted to adjust the mix balance, and mute buttons are also provided. Each channel is also equipped with a LO/HI CUT filter that lets you control the low and high frequency ranges with a single knob. The pristine, natural-sounding filters that you expect from analog gear give you complete control over the character of your sound.
Output and monitor capabilities for use on stage, plus stereo speakers for maximum portability.

The output section provides RCA stereo line outputs to ensure stable connection. There’s a master volume with LED VU meter for adjusting the output level, as well as a headphone output that can be used simultaneously with the line output, providing a reliable monitoring environment on stage. Speakers are also built-in for excellent portability. The stereo speakers are placed at both sides of the front, and while compact, deliver SPL levels that are even greater than the built-in speakers on previous volca units.

Powerful effects and control.

Powerful master chain.

The volca mix is equipped with master effects powered by all-analog circuitry. In addition to an expander that broadens a mono source into a stereo sound image, there’s a dynamic range compressor that compresses the high-frequency range according to level changes of the low-frequency region, as well as a side chain effect that’s indispensable for dance music. Use these to dynamically vary the mix, adding a professional feel to live performances with the volca.
Connect an external effect unit for further variety.

The volca mix provides a stereo mini-jack send out and AUX in jack, and send level knobs for each channel. This allows you to use it with an external effect unit in a send/return connection. When used in conjunction with a unit such as the mini kaoss pad 2S, you can also enhance your live performances using standard effects such as reverb, delay, filter, and break. The AUX in jack can also be used as a stereo input channel for a fourth volca unit, an iOS app, or any other gadget, instrument, or device.
As the master of your volca live setup.

The volca mix features an analog sync out jack that can easily be connected to many pieces of KORG gear for tempo sync, and also a play button and tempo knob to control that sync signal. By using the volca mix as the sync master device of your live setup, you can easily enhance your live performance, such as simultaneously playing sequences from multiple synced units, and combining mute and volume control to create performances that use your volca units in even more ingenious ways.

DC out lets you use three volca units simultaneously.

Three VOLCA DC OUT jacks are provided, and by connecting the included DC-DC cables you can supply power for up to three volca units. Even when using multiple volca units on stage, you won’t need to bother with adapters or bring another power strip; just concentrate on your performance with a streamlined setup and breakdown.

A rich variety of included accessories.

The volca mix comes with AC adapter, DC-DC cables, and audio cables included. Right out of the box, you’ll be ready to put together a complete volca live setup."

Patch Notes #23 - Quad Turing Machine Mode in Ornament & Crime

Published on Oct 14, 2016 Voltage Control Lab

"Testing the deeper functions in Quantermain mode in Ornament & Crime, the quad turing machine mode to be precise! This is an extremely useful and exciting module.

A clock coming from Make Noise Tempi, which is sequencing the 0-Coast. The 0-Coast is routed to the Mutable Instruments Warps for some delay through the Parasites alt firmware, and on to the Malekko Mix4.

Tempi is also clocking the Malekko Varigate 4. One channel is triggering the Slope section in the 0-Coast, which is not modulating the 0-Coast, but rather shaping the kick drum routing inside the Roland Scooper which is also routed on to the Mix4.

Another channel on the Varigate is routed to trigger the Noise Engineering Basimilus Iteritas. All 4 channels on the Ornament & Crime are modulating functions on the BI: pitch, decay, morph and fold. All 4 channels are triggered by Tempi at the TR1 input.

Make Noise René is also receiving clock from Tempi, sending it's QCV out to the DPO, and Xgate out to the Malekko ADLFO. The DPO final out is sent to the Optomix, and then out from the mix output to the Mix4. One channel on the ADLFO is routed to the Optomix channel to open LPG, another is controlling FM depth between the oscillators on the DPO.

The Roland System 1m is played live via the Qunexus keyboard, routed out through the Aux input on the Optomix.
