Befaco - Octaves VCO

video upload by Befacosynth

"A harsh and funky take of an additive Oscillator.
Pile up multiplications of your frequency to get a lo-fi-retro wall of squared sound!
You get six doubled frequency pulses, or octaves, with common PWM and volume control for each of them.
The output of each is cascaded to the next one, so you can either have one output with all frequencies or break the chain and get several sums and modulate each independently!"

Update: and video from Divkid directly below. Also see mylarmelodies' Molten Music Technology video here.

A harsh & funky take on an additive oscillator // Octaves VCO from Befaco

video upload by DivKid

"Here we have what Befaco say is "a harsh and funky take on an additive oscillator" as it has individual harmonics or partials and VCAs to modulate them. However the idea of harmonics here is replaced with 6 octaves of square waves. It's an analog design with a triangle core oscillator that through frequency doublers give 6 octaves to work with, each turned into squares that respond to PWM. An onboard mixer allows for blending these squares, you can break out into new tones with self patching, or make multi-layered wide frequency spanning voices from the individual outs."

A patch technique for layering sound // first patch with the Eowave Tempete Magnetique

video upload by DivKid

"Here we have what was my literal first patch with the TempĂȘte Magnetique from Eowave. I really loved the Fluctuations Magnetique from Eowave and it was nice to see them build on that with the new module. While patching the filter I used a technique that I often do which is layering two sounds from a single oscillator into two filters with different modulation to get the sounds layered and dancing around each other. That technique is what we're exploring here.

Abstract Data - ADE-32 Octocontroller - First Patch

Published on Aug 11, 2015 DivKidMusic

http://www.abstractdata.biz/

"This was the first patch I put together with the new Octocontroller from Abstract Data. It's a massively useful and fun module. 8 outputs offering pulses, gates, LFOs, sample and hold gates (random in time rhythms which you can lock to tempo), sample and hold CV (your usual random CV), arpeggios (plenty of useful musical patterns) and more. It's quick to use and it made putting this patch together controlling my full system really easy.

In this patch I have CV controlling FX and timbre modulation over percussion parts, basic drum trigger, arpeggios for the bass with sample and hold modulation for the filter shaping the bass. From there I was just playing around with mixers bringing sounds in and out while the ADE-32 did it's thing. If you watch the outputs LEDs on the Octocontroller you can figure out which output is doing what.

Abstract Data - ADE-32 Octocontroller - Arpeggios

Published on Aug 19, 2015 DivKidMusic

"My second patch playing around with the ADE-32 Octocontroller from Abstract Data. Check out the first patch here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyAJV... [posted here] - which is running a full techno style patch with drums, bass, random modulation, LFOs etc. In this second patch I was just playing around with a few oscillators and layering up arpeggios from the ADE-32 running at different speeds. It's a much more simple and slow moving drone style piece but shows a simpler way of using the Octocontroller for basic slow moving parts.

The Creative & Advanced Sequential Functions of Step 8 from Joranalogue // Eurorack *MEGA DEMO*

video upload by DivKid

"Here we have the highly anticipated and massively capable (of many things) Step 8 from Joranalogue! Step 8 is a sequential sampling register capable of sequencing, burst generation, gate delays, analogue shift register, hocketing, mute interjections, clock divisions, graphic oscillator & VCA-like behaviour … I could go on, the list of potential is HUGE!

The video roughly follows an order from more basic functions to more advanced, each patch offers a different musical example of that function and it serves as a tutorial to do lots of things with Step 8, learning its functions along the way. With that in mind I’d love to know what you’re favourite patch in the video is and if you have questions along the way leave them in the comments.

If you’d like to join the DivKid Discord community, gain access to exclusive PDF patchbooks, exclusive videos and more … consider supporting on Patreon for as little as $1 a month // https://bit.ly/DK-patreon"

"So here's the next synth jam video in a extended Vine style. Search DivKid on Vine if you use it to see more videos and short snippets of what we're getting up to.

The patch is based around a couple of simple sequences and clock divisions resetting LFOs and maniuplate various parts of a patch surrounding Mutable Instruments Braids in Meta mode. Fairly simple sequences but sonic interesting (I think at least). Hope you like it.

Announcement NEW DIVKID EURORACK MODULE // Meet ochd made with Instruo

Published on Dec 18, 2019 DivKidVideo

"Hello hello, here's my second eurorack module Ăžchd or ochd. It's pronounced "oct" as in octave or octuplet and as if by magic there's eight outputs on this module, an octuplet of analogue LFOs if you will. I often find I need more modulation, simple sources that will keep things moving and stop things getting repetitive. That’s why ochd was brought to life, to keep patches organically drifting and moving… and as it’s modular, we wanted an intuitive easy to use module with plenty of patchable tricks up it’s sleeves too!

ochd is a 4HP Eurorack module with eight analogue triangle LFOs. The outputs go from fast on the top output to slow on the bottom output. The default ranges are deliberate NOT synced. These are free running LFOs that were tuned by ear to be musical useful for a range of fast to slow modulations in a patch. Organic animation, drifting and musical phasing is the intention of the module. The rate control controls the rate of all LFOs globally and takes this into lower audio rates right down to 25 minute cycles on the lowest output. This can be extended even slower with CV, with the CV input and attenuverter on board and we can also track and hold the outputs with a negative CV, interrupting and holding modulation values with external gates of CVs. Another trick to take this from simple triangle shapes is to patch a spare output into the CV input and wave shape with feedback. Exponential curves, odd squares, stepped waveforms and more are available with some adjustment of the attenuverter and using different outputs to voltage control itself.

While patching a prototype at DivKid HQ Richard Devine said this was "the most organic little modulator ever" - lovely stuff!"

What if VCV Rack was real? // VCV Random by NANO Modules

video upload by DivKid

"In an interesting full circle turn of events, VCV Rack that emulates Eurorack hardware how now come to life as Eurorack hardware in the new VCV Random module from NANO Modules.

VCV Random is a Eurorack hardware version of the VCV Rack Random software module. It's a flexible and modulate-able multi output random generator with some novel features, namely, a step shape control that adds increasing numbers of steps between random values and a 'RND' crossfade control that crossfades the sampling of internal noise and the output. The latter resulting in a unique way to control voltage changes per step and one that can modulate over time.

Good people make for good events and good gear, so lets meet them // London Synth & Pedal Expo 2024

video upload by DivKid

"What an amazing weekend we've just had! Here's a video with some of the people at the London Synth & Pedal Expo 2024. Held over this past weekend (Saturday and Sunday the 16th+17th of March 2024) in Studio 9294 in Hackney Wick, the London Synth & Pedal Expo is a free to attend show with plenty of synths, modular and pedal FX on show for people to come and play with.

As it takes good people to make good events (and the good gear we love) I wanted to focus on the people, asking who they are and what they do, more specifically how would they explain what they do to someone with no idea about synths, pedals and music tech. That led to some funny answers, all spread around various bits of b roll and footage from the event."

Robaux - SWT16 *First Patch*

Published on Jun 1, 2018 DivKidVideo

"I have a full demo video coming with the SWT16 from Robaux coming in the near future but as I often do I wanted to share my first experiences and first patch with you all. I think sharing the first steps is a good way to indicate how easy something to use and what it does quickly and immediately. In this case, it's quick to mute, create fills, sequence and play around with the trigger/gate sequences. Very cool.

I'll be making an exclusive patch breakdown to show off the samples, sound sources, mixing, distortion, filtering and FX for my Patreon supporters. So consider supporting what I do here and grab the bonus content on patreon.com/divkid if you wish. Cheers!

DivKid Ochd w/ Manis Iteritas | LFO Chaos

Published on Dec 29, 2019 Nostalgic Ruckus

"Been waiting for something like this for the skiff. Luv my clock dividers and multipliers and this kinda does it with LFOs. Cranking that rate knob is a beautiful thing. The Manis with all the patch cables is being modulated by Ochd only. The other Manis output is plugged into the E440 filter to tame some unwanted harmonics but also add some resonance when Ochd gapes the envelope. Attenuating Ochd's outputs with Bored Brain Splix. The CV input on this thing is crazy cool when self patching it just didn’t do it on this patch."

The Wave Transformer // EarthQuaker's Boldest Device Yet ( & it isn't even a pedal)

video upload by Jorb

"I love a lot about this module.

Its a rock solid oscillator, which yes there are a ton of them, but this needs to be if its gonna compete. And the waveshaping from the transform circuit gives it enough of its own character to stand out.

I think its priced competitively, it does all the things other up-market "standard" oscillators do (built-in attenuators for modulation, hard and soft sync, built in sub) and it has so much of its own character.

If there's any downside, its kind of a lot of HP? But not really when you consider the sum of its parts. On all fronts, we got a banger.

Complex Morphing VCO, Subs, FM & more // The Wave Transformer by Earthquaker Devices (Eurorack Demo)
video upload by DivKid

"Well this was a surprise! Earthquaker Devices (makers of fine pedal FX) making a Eurorack oscillator. Yes they made the Afterneath module, but as that was a modular version of a pedal I didn't expect they come guns glazing with a big, bold VCO!

I first saw The Wave Transformer by Earthquaker Devices at Knobcon, where they brought it along for an early look and sat playing with it at the show I knew they were onto something that sounded great. Well now it's released here we are with a demo.

The Wave Transformer is a 20HP Eurorack oscillator, it's analog, with onboard complex, transforming wave shaping, sub generators with unique shapes, FM, sync, LOTS of precise tuning control and options to wave shape external sources, saturate audio and track subs from your other oscillators. I've had lots of fun with this one!"

Eurorack Transfiguration Oscillator
$199.00

The Wave Transformer is an analog, vintage-voiced, voltage-controlled oscillator with over 8 octaves of accurate pitch tracking. It has 7 simultaneous wave outputs, including a unique Complex output.

The Transform control morphs from a basic waveform through many strange iterations into a complex, gnarled mass of audio mutations at the Complex output. You can yield countless variations on these permutations by combining this novel circuit with Hard Sync, Soft Sync, Linear FM and Exponential FM. Additionally, you can mute the source waveform to use the circuit as a harmonic gate/VCA, rendering The Wave Transformer a voice unto itself. If that is not enough, there is a Shape Insert that allows you to transform external oscillations and modular-level audio sources."

Jam - Flexible Portable Eurorack Systems - Matttech Modular 30/10/15

Published on Dec 2, 2015 DivKidMusic

"On the 30th of October Matttech Modular held an event at MadLab in Manchester to present and demo 'Flexible Portable Eurorack Systems'. There was me (DivKid) presenting a drum and percussion based system. Matttech himself presenting a synth voice and Matthew Shaw present a more experimental 'west coast' set up.

The event was casual throughout with lots of chat, questions and trying out things together through the evening.

Here's a little jam we had at the end of the night.

Everything was caught on a single camcorder up above each case. We chose not to set up a second camera pointing at the people presenting as we wanted to create a casual event where people could play around and touch things and not potentially feel awkward with a camera right in their face. Audio was captured on a Zoom H4n.

Here's the event page from Madlab with all the links you'll need to check things out - http://madlab.org.uk/events/matttech-...
