Can You Hear The Music (Synth Version) - Oppenheimer soundtrack

video upload by Karel Smit

"This is my third Ludwig Goransson cover after the Mandalorian Theme and Redbone by Childish Gambino. Amazing what a versatile musician he is.
This is by far the most popular song of the Oppenheimer soundtrack and rightly so I would say. Transcribing and setting everything up in midi was kind of hellish, considering the 21 tempo changes in the song. I sort of gave up back in August but decided to finish it anyway and happy with the result!

Some notes on the set-up:
I've routed midi tracks to the keystep pro to control my analogue synths, besides also adding a lot of soft synths form the Massive plugin. This was my first dive into the Massive library and I have to say it's amazing! As far as soft synths go, I can imagine you wouldn't need anything else.

- Main melody/Counter Melody: Prophet Rev2 Preset Double Impact (F2P72) with some tweaks + Herby & Bender Massive Preset in 2 different octaves
- High bells (violin plucks in the original): Bellclarinet Massive Preset
- Bass: Mother32 + Analogue Classique 2 Massive Preset
- Chord stabs: Call In The Air Massive Preset
- Low chord stabs final part: Elevator Massive Preset
- High violins final part: Drifter + Splendor Massive Preset
- Lead: Korg Minilogue xd Vreeuw preset with some tweaks + Minibrute 2s + 4 different Massive Presets that are added gradually: Square Crisp, Square Crisp octave higher, Widen, Bursted Flute"

Sequential Circuits Prophet 3000 Rev B. 4MB Sampler SN 0210 w/ Sample Library

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This is the rare Prophet-3000 Rev B 4MB model. The standard 3000 had 2MB, and few had 4MB out of the factory (although some could be expanded to 4). As such, this unit is a bit of a rarity.

The floppy drive is needs a cleaning. I am considering doing it myself, but obviously that makes me a little nervous. However, if you are patient with it the current drive will do. The controller works well too.

This unit comes with about 45 disks of sounds, many custom from the original owner. It sounds excellent, as only 3 samplers were ever made with both analog filters and 16-bit sample rates. Truly its a champion of its category."

Epic Prophet X Sample Bank Out Now

video upload by Espen Kraft

"A new patch bank for the Prophet X. Hundreds of samples from over 20 different classic vintage synths. Multi-samples, Velocity layered samples, one-shots and stretched (for authenticity).

The samples and patches I've created is originally meant for MY Prophet X, for my live needs. A way of having all my vintage synths in one keyboard when doing live gigs doing MY own songs as faithful as possible to my albums.
It means that all of these sounds are "ready to go" production pop synth sounds. If you're looking for experimental synth sounds or spiky industrial sounds etc, you won't find that here. I never set out to do that. Nor will I. Every sample in here has been recorded by me personally and sounds exactly how I want them to sound.
Many of the samples are velocity layered multi samples, some upwards of 30-50 samples per sound, while other sounds are just ONE sample, stretched over the entire keyboard. It all depends on how I want the sound to sound. 80s samplers always stretched the samples which gives it a characteristic sound and sometimes I want THAT sound to come through.

If you want to purchase this bank, please send me an email and I'll give you the download details.
The pack is about 1.5Gb in size.
My CONTACT email address is this: espenkraft69@gmail.com
Price is $35 USD. This price is a steal. PayPal only. * The above email is NOT the one to use for payment. That will be given upon ordering.

Included in the download is an instruction on how to install this bank, but I do assume you already know this if you have a Prophet X.
I will take no responsibility if you've accidentally deleted or erased any user samples on your own PX (that you had on from before) after installing my pack.
I will not engage in any "one to one" tutorial sessions on how to install the pack after purchase.
If you have a PX, you should know how to operate it. If not then this pack is not for you.

The installation, import and patch bank transfer has been tested out, and verified to work, by another PX user and owner.

If you want the pool of samples for another platform, I might be able to convert it for you. Send me an email and we'll see.

The warmth of the sun | An ode to Pivot & Bonnie

video upload by MIDERA

"On the way to the emergency vet, Pivot by my side. I remember the sun on her carrier. I hoped it had warmed her. Or if nothing else, I hoped the sound of my voice or my daughter's kept her company. Today was a hard day. It was time to put Pivot to sleep.

Pivot was very sick. Yesterday, she had thrown up multiple times and afterwards, just laid down and wouldn't move. I couldn't entice her to eat, not yesterday, not today - it's my litmus test for how my cat is doing. She, in fact, would move away from it. I had hoped over night she would feel better, but it just did not happen. She laid by a water bowl in the kitchen and occasionally drink from it (a sign, I thought, that she was improving), but she just seemed not well. I made the call. It had to be done.

Everyone said their goodbye's. My wife would stay home with our 2 year old who would not have handled the mood very well. However, to my surprise, my 6 year old wanted to come. I was glad. Pivot had laid with her for years. She would lay on my wife when she was pregnant with my daughter. She would lay by her carrier when she was asleep in it. She was always with her. Pivot was her fur mama. She loved my daughter.

It was a big gift that my daughter came with. When I cried, she would say "It's ok Papa." She was strong. Of course, she cried too. But the resilience of a 6 year old who, in 6 months, has had to deal with the loss of two of her favorite pets, is impressive. Tonight there was a lot of "I miss Bonnie and Pivot." I do too. We cried a lot.

I got Pivot in August of 2008, a week after I lost my last cat, Winchester. Pivot was best friends with Bonnie. Pivot was nuts. She would fly around my house and body slam cat scratch toys. She would lay down with rugs and kick them. But she would lay next to my face and fall asleep. If I was sad, I could make fake sad meow sounds and she would run to me. She always comforted me.

I did want to try to do an in-home service for putting her down. I thought that would be the kind thing to do, because she hated traveling, but ultimately, I knew it should be done sooner than later, and honestly, those home services are kind of a lot of money ($700+ instead of $400+). I feel a little bad that I chose the cheaper option, because Pivot HATED traveling (like she would pee herself when we'd leave the house). Today - hardly a peep. She did meow, but she had such little strength. I knew sending her off earlier was the better option too. Doing it away from the house at least made it so I didn't need to look at a spot and say "That's where Pivot died." Pivot let go of this life at 1:10PM, in my arms, full of love, all of which I hope she took with her.

So - here I am, alone now, everyone else asleep in the house. I wrote this as I sat here and felt the mood was fitting. I think of myself as the Rhodes Piano voice, a sad depressing tone, mixed in with the voice of Pivot, dancing around my sadness, as she really did so well. It begins and ends without her, the way our lives were entwined. She will be forever missed.|

Update:

Bonnie

video upload by Mike Lewis

"Mar 13, 2023
This last weekend, on March 11th, I put my dear friend Bonnie (Flame Point Siamese cat) to sleep. She suffered a stroke (or had a growth in her brain) on Tuesday March 7th. We found her walking in circles, I think she was suddenly blinded. She was not well. I thought "if this is a stroke, cats can recover, even if she's blind." I tried to hold on to her, but something changed even further on Thursday night. That was the moment I realized that she had stopped purring when I pet her (she had been purring in the day). I think she may have had seizures, because I remember seeing blood on her paw pads, where her nails would have dug in (which were not there in the afternoon).

I think only one word really describes how I feel about losing her: Devastated.

She lived at least 15 years (with me) and was adopted in 2007, being about 2-4 years old (as a guess), meaning she was about 18-20 years old. That was a good long life for a cat. I had hoped she would have made it to 23 years old... dying in her sleep peacefully, but she (and I) didn't get that. I watched her suffer for a few days, but I think Thursday she stopped eating entirely. On Friday, I found her stuck behind the litter box and I knew that was time.

I don't know why I feel such guilt, but apparently that's a common feeling when you lose a pet. I think I feel guilty that I was kinda mean to her in the first year I had her. I even told people I didn't want her (note, that I could not ever bring myself to get rid of her). I don't know why I felt those things. I even said she was ugly (she did have a really funny weird brown spot on her nose that always made her look like she was snarling). I feel a lot of guilt for feeling and saying these things. I know she didn't understand them, but I wasn't kind.

What's strange is, all the things I found annoying or disliked, just now happen to be all of the things I miss. Like her tenacity to get in my lap and stop at nothing until she won (multiple times I'd get her off my lap, eventually she'd sneak in and win). Or her licking my arms. Or that funny snarl look on her face. These things... they just stick in my mind and I just absolutely devastated that I can't experience them now.

The hardest part for me was after realizing she was going to be put down - telling her what a good kitty she was, how I loved her so much, and that she was one of my best friends. Well, the hardest part was holding on to her as life left her. I knew she was no longer in pain, but I think that feeling will stay with me forever. We drove to the vet in the same car she came home in when I adopted her. I thought she'd like that. I talked to her in the car, telling her how beautiful it was outside with the thick snow falling gently in the grey sky. While she was probably deaf, and now blind, I hoped she could hear me, even just a little.

Now, she is gone. I look at the kitties and puppy I have left and tell myself that I need to be more present for them. I also tell myself, everything that bothers me about my pets will be the very things I will miss when they're gone. I need to be more present in general, for my wife and my kids.

There is the biggest hole in my heart, where apparently Bonnie resided. I had no idea how big that space was until she left me."

2. Synthfest UK 2023: Calc And the Prophet X
At Synthfest UK 2023, we caught up with Calc from Sequential, and he gave us the lowdown on the Prophet X. Now, you might be thinking, Prophet X? Haven't we seen that before? Well, you're right, but this hybrid instrument has been quietly making waves in the music world. It combines digital and analog elements, with digital oscillators and a unique twist in the form of multi-sample-based instruments. Yes, you heard that right, it's not just your run-of-the-mill synth; it's a full-on sampler too, boasting an impressive 50 gigabytes of memory for your custom samples. You can treat it like a rompler, a sample player, or even use those samples as oscillators, creating a whole new realm of sonic possibilities.

Plus, it's packed with stereo goodness, allowing you to explore a wide soundstage with ease. It's not your typical synth, and that's what makes its a favourute of Calc's

Sequential Circuits Prophet VS Rack Mount Vector Synth SN 0136

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Prophet VS Rack is one of the most unique synths from Sequential. It is a digital synth utilizing vector synthesis for sound generation. It contains 4 oscillators per voice with 127 waveforms. It also features 2 LFOs, a Curtis low pass analog filter with digital controls, envelopes, arpeggiator, built-in effects and is MIDI equipped. The VS rack is a pretty rare synth, with total production figures of around 900 for the rack version.

Serial #2402-0136. Needs a little work, but overall in good condition. The display works, but the light is out. The Left/Phones input jack works, but as you can see from the pict, part of the plastic is broken and should be replaced. Some of the buttons on the front panel sometimes stick and need to be pressed more then once, but always work.

Besides the minor issues, it’s very clean. Comes with Kid Nepro 100 custom made sounds. You can still get parts from Wine Country and can probably get it back to 100% for about $1-2 hundred US dollars. We are selling “as is” so you have to cover the costs of the described repairs. We guarantee the above description is accurate, but the buyer will have to cover the costs of the described repairs."

"Droid Mischief" - Akai MPC X + Arturia MiniFreak + ASM Hydrasynth + Novation BassStation II

video upload by Patrick Manderson

"'Droid Mischief' was recorded live late afternoon on Friday August 25, 2023 using a MIDI sequencer and a room full of synthesizers and drum machines. Three analog mixers were used with a rack of ouboard effects mixed in stereo and recorded. Mixing and automation was controlled by the sequencer directly to the synthesizers. The final recording required manual adjustments and muting of the of mixer channels to suppress the noise coming from some of the devices. Video was recorded weeks after afterwards.

'Droid Mischief' was inspired initially from a previous composition utilizing a number of budget analog synths from Behringer. At [3:35] these synth along with the everpresent Novation BassStation II play a series of bleeps and bloops with a backdrop of ominous vocal grunts and breaths by the *Korg MS2000*. Each of the Behringer analog synths were patched for their perspective parts with CV modulating their volumes from the *Akai MPC X*.

Three patches were programmed for the Xenomorph voice on the *Korg MS2000*. Each utilizing the Korg's distortion. Dual patches were used to mix breathing noise and throat noise with velocities. [0:24], [1:53], [3:21]

The second part 'The Feast', is anchored by a groove using syncopated bass notes on the ASM Hydrasynth and percussive embilishments using AFX-MODE on the *Novation BassStation II*. Note: 4-5 stacked BassStations w/AFX-MODE would make an incredible sounding percussion synthesizer.

The Korg Radias is always present with its flexible 16 voice drum kit filled with various bottom frequencies, mid and high filtered noises layered and mixed with various modulations to make all sorts of lovely percussions [3:30]. Vocal 'Ahhs' embelish the suspensful parts [3:46], [4:45].

Dave Smith Instruments Prophet REV2 filled in a number of spaces, most notably the drama strings at [4:36] with the Roland JP-8080.

Eight patches were staged for use in the first half on the *Roland System-1M*. Its fidelity cuts through very nicely. I was suprised by the sound coming out of it despite the generic sounding filter. The oscillators and overall fidelity is excellent.

The Korg Minilogue and Minilogue XD take turns playing bass as well as other parts throughout. Always useful and never disappointing. The Minilogue is permanently coupled with the Drawmer DL241's gate to manage its noise.

Engine drones were provided by the Sequential Prophet 6*. It also provided additional syncopated notes with the *Hydrasynth in the last 3rd.

The delicious sounds coming from the Arturia MiniFreak was on stage throughout. Liberal use of its two macro modulations over MIDI CC-117, CC-118.

The caverns of hell | Prophet 08 soundscape

video upload by MIDERA

"I think the Prophet 08 is the one of the best DSI synths (my opinion is incoming). It's better than the REV2 for sure, which seems to share a hardness with the Prophet 12. A stiffness? I don't know. It has something I just don't like. The Prophet 08 and Poly Evolver seem to have been saved of this strange sensation. However, the Poly Evolver, specifically MY Poly Evolver, has been a bit problematic since I got it. First, the encoders were bad, so I needed to use deoxit on them. After 4 months, I needed to do it again. However, I decided to replace all of the encoders with 'clicky' detented encoders, the correct ones as described by Sequential via email, since they no longer had the potentiometer edition boards available. I spent about 10 hours replacing all of the encoders. What I learned was that the encoders actually take 2-4 clicks to make a change. This is frustrating because I don't think it is the correct encoders (DSI has not admitted this to me, stating that these are correct). Either they have different number of detents or something about the specifications are wrong - or it's right and they never fixed how the OS views the detents. Either way - it annoys me, making the interface frustrating.

As for the REV2 and Prophet 12, I just never got or never get tones like these. Audio Mod acts very differently in the P12 than the P08 and PE. I don't know why, but they are very different.

Anyway, I do wish I had the regular PE edition of the Poly Evolver... but I'm tempted to just sell it, because I'm too annoyed with myself and the amount of work I did to make it almost as frustrating as before and the Prophet 08 is a joy to use. I could sit in front of this thing for hours and play it. It just does a lot of things right. I wonder who on the team was working there when the P08 came out, and if they left afterwards. I thought the next thing out was the Prophet 12... I don't know.

DSI Prophet 08 | Wonders a world away | An ambient soundscape

video upload by MIDERA

"Tomorrow, my daughter starts 1st grade. I remember last year how nerve-wracking it was sending her off to school. Would she be okay and meet good friends? Would she do well in class? It was a big change. It's nice to at least feel that there is some comfort in 'returning' to something she knows and feels comfortable doing. I'm at least excited about that.

But we're in an interesting time. Every day she gets panic attacks, crying telling us she 'thinks' she's 'going to puke.' Of course, nothing happens and we have to reassure her that she won't puke. I don't know if it's the amygdala developing and it's just part of growing up. I remember when I was little I would cry in bed, and my parents would come to me and I'd say I'm really sad knowing that some day they would die. They told me that wasn't going to happen... which was obviously a lie. Of course, one of these times our daughter tells us she's going to puke, she probably will.

As for this track - I've just been really pondering what DSI synths to keep. I actually find the P08 to be the best sounding, although the Poly Evolver is a very close equal, despite only 4 voices. I think the P12 is very similar, but it's also lacking something I can't quite put my finger on. I still think it's in the envelopes. Something about them just feel stiff. The P08 and PE seem to deal better with it. But then again, they're all 3 different instruments. I think the PE is theoretically the most interesting and best of them, at the expense of 4 or more voices.

This track used the Strymon Volante and Eventide Blackhole VST.

DSI Prophet 08 | The other side of dreams | An ambient soundscape

video upload by MIDERA

"I think I'm convinced that the Prophet 08 is the best DSI synth. I didn't really care for the OB6 myself and haven't played the P6 or Trigon 6, so I can't say anything about them. The P12 just is very tame, while the Poly Evolver, as interesting as is it, just doesn't have something the P08 has, besides missing 4 voices. The PE is very hard to use because each oscillator is spread to L/R channels and when you mix them to center, the special stereo sound goes away. Since the sequencer only works as steps, not in a range of values, it ends up not being that great IMO.

The Prophet 5/10, is a much better synth though, so don't take this to think I like the P08 more, but I think it's equally special and sounds phenomenal. I gotta say though, I think the P08 is just fantastic and goes into really crazy territory very easily.

So the question I will be asking myself is... do I need the P12 and PE? Surely people would say to keep them, and the Polaris... but I have so many synths. These seem like they were supposed to do what I love about the P08, but don't.
