"The 4027 VCO is a 10HP Eurorack filter adaptation of the colorful VCO-2 tone source from the ARP 2600 synthesizer. You know…that all analog, all discrete components, SAWTOOTH core packed with the SINE, TRIANGLE, and PULSE w/ PWM! If you’re looking for warm, fat analog synthesizer tones – 4027 VCO is the one for you.

In bringing that special tone to life the 4027 VCO keeps the circuit as close to the original as possible: a matched transistor pair, an Interfet premium dual FET can (because that beautiful Sine is worth it), temperature compensation resistor for tuning stability, low ESR styrene oscillation capacitor, 5-NPN monolithic substrate transistor array, precision Tune and Tracking trimmers, and the 70s spec op amps which are still being offered today. The 4027 VCO has requisite LDO voltage conditioning to isolate the oscillator tuning from your systems power rails. While each module is fully tested and calibrated, it may need minor TUNE trimmer correction after warm-up to account for variances in different systems. This limited quantity module is lovingly hand-crafted in the USA.

KORG Officially Introduces the New ARP ODYSSEY and New KRONOS - Details and Live Video From NAMM

Scheduled for Jan 21, 2015 Korg

And the details are in. You'll find the list of full Odyssey specs further below. I wanted to lump the Kronos and Odyssey together with Korg's live video announcement feed from NAMM, as that is how they are/were released to the world. It's interesting that the press release for the Odyssey does not mention or include pics of the white and black & gold Odysseys. You can see pics of them side by side at NAMM here, and the black and gold prototype was pictured here. New pics will follow when they go live.  Until then, enjoy the show! Update: new front view of Odyssey and two new Kronos pics added below.  That's it for the initial press pics.  You can see the white and black & gold Odysseys on stage.

"ARP ODYSSEY; Forty Years Later, A Complete Revival

Long stopped, the wheels of history have again begun to move

Anaheim, CA– January 21, 2015- - In conjunction with Arp Instruments Inc., Korg Inc. has revived the legendary analog synthesizer, the ARP ODYSSEY. Originally produced in 1972, the ODYSSEY quickly garnered a faithful following among musicians. Well respected for its high value, ease to play and portability, the ARP ODYSSEY had undergone several improvements during its history and continued to be a long-seller until manufacturing stopped in 1981 due to economic hardships and the digital surge. Loved by a wide range of musicians as a historical classic, its sound can be heard on numerous classic songs.

Now in 2015, Korg has brought back the ARP ODYSSEY for today while preserving the basic design of the original. The new ODYSSEY has a compact body, highly operable sliders, and a 37 note slim keyboard that's easy to play. In addition, a DRIVE switch (new function) is provided and connectors include MIDI and headphone output as well as Patch cables.

'Together the engineers at Korg and Arp were able to nail the sound and feel of the original. Under the advisory assistance of David Friend, the co-founder of ARP Instruments, every detail was adjusted to replicate the original unit's distinctive synthesis,' shared James Sajeva, Brand Manager for Korg products. 'Every aspect has been carefully considered to stay true to the quality of the original, down to the sophisticated semi-hard case.'

Korg has completely reproduced the original circuitry for artists looking to recreate classic sounds and explore new ones. The ARP ODYSSEY has been downsized to 86% of the original. Carefully selected parts are used in the familiar slider section, providing an operating feel that's even smoother than the original."

"KORG Debuts Most Powerful Synthesizer with the New Kronos

Expanded Piano Engine, Improved Touch Panel Navigation, Improved Set List Mode, Search by Song Title Functionality, Redesigned Exterior

Anaheim, CA– January 22, 2015- - KORG USA debuted the new KRONOS, the most powerful version of its flagship synthesizer to date during Winter NAMM. For the first time enthusiast will be able to hear and see the new Kronos in action with live performances and in depth demonstrations by product experts and engineers.

'The new Kronos features the unrivaled 9-engine structure from previous versions, with numerous improvements to both sound capability and overall functionality. Truly, the most powerful synthesizer on the planet just got more powerful,' said James Sajeva, Brand Manager for Korg products.

'Our SGX piano engine, already revered for its German and Japanese grands, now also includes a 9GB Berlin grand with dedicated una corda (soft pedal) samples, plus sympathetic string resonance that works on all the SGX pianos” he continued. “It’s truly an amazing piano experience. There are new banks of sounds based on famous song titles for our cover players and those looking for ‘that’ sound for their recordings, plus a ‘best of’ bank from KaPro, who has created numerous libraries for the Kronos line.'

Other new features include system-wide Touch/Drag via the Kronos’ huge color TouchView™ screen; allowing the user to edit onscreen parameters faster and more naturally than ever.

An evolved Set List mode provides the capability to resize their custom text per set list entry, and enter text via either an onscreen QWERTY or external USB ASCII keyboard. Entries can also be color-coded for better organization and visibility, and users can even decide how many set list entries appear on the screen at time, allowing for more (and larger) onscreen text to remind you of lyrics, changes, or other notes.

An improved search function helps users to find the perfect sound faster than ever. Other improvements include onscreen metering in Combination and Sequencer modes, along with the ability to edit Programs within a Combination to hear the edits in context with other parts.

The improvements don’t end with the software, either; the new Kronos also boasts a new look, including natural wood side panels, easier-to-read silkscreened text, a sophisticated – and functional – vented back panel, and gold-plated audio I/O jacks."

Modded MARANTZ PMD221 Tape Recorder as a Tape Echo
AI016 Tape Interface Build Video Guide

Press release including the AI011 VCO followed by pics and additional details on the AI016 (AI011 posted here).

"Portland, OR, USA December 3, 2019 – AI Synthesis has released the AI011 Analog VCO and AI016 Tape Interface in both a built and guaranteed version, as well as in kit and PCB/Panel format. The AI011 Analog VCO is a robust and stable analog Eurorack VCO. Using the legendary curtis 3340 IC, the Oscillator provides buffered Triangle, Square, and Ramp waveforms, as well as a triangle to sine wave shaper to provide a sine wave output. The AI016 is a tape interface that allows user to use a humble three-head cassette recorder as a real analog tape echo.
Following the tradition of the other eurorack modules, the AI001 Multiple,AI002 Mixer, and AI003 Looping ADSR, the module has a full video how-to build guide. Unlike some DIY companies that focus solely on providing kits, AI Synthesis has an educational mission and our kits and documentation are aimed at those who have never held a soldering iron. PCBS are professionally manufactured, and all panels are aluminum and designed by Grayscale."

"The AI016 Eurorack Tape Echo Interface is a Limited Edition Module that uses a pre-amp and buffered feedback loops to allow a standard three head tape recorder as an analog tape echo. It also provides op-amp saturation on the input when pushed.

The tape recorder must have three heads (erase, record, and play) for it to work as a tape echo. This type of tape recorder will have a button or switch that allows the monitoring of the source audio, or what has just been recorded to the tape. The space between the record and play head creates the delay, and the Tape Interface feeds back into the unit to create repeats.

The AI016 provides the following tape controls:
Mix
Repeats
Input and Output Controls
Delay time is controlled by the tape deck. Not all tape decks allow speed control while recording, and modifications may be needed.
Kits include all parts needed to build and mount the AI011 Eurorack VCO:
Hi Quality Aluminum Panel
Mounting Screws
Potentiometers
Jacks and Nuts
Power cable

Please note that a three-head tape recorder is needed for tape echo. While I do support the AI016, I do not support 3rd party tape decks or for 3rd Party tape deck modifications."

Model 15 Complex Voltage Controlled Oscillator & Model 3 LFO

via Subconscious Records

"cEvin Key and Subconscious Studios are pleased announce a limited quantity re-release of the most sought-after oscillator in the Eurorack range - the Model 15 Complex VCO - along with the Model 37 ELF LFO/Utility VCO - both built via automation in the USA, both utilizing SMT technology, new features and new graphics, yet both at an old bundled price!

The Subconscious Studios Rev. 4 Model 15 VCO maintains the identical circuitry of the original discrete triangle core to assure the waveform purity and timbral characteristics which made it a legend. It features two independent fully processed (+/-) VC inputs, a 1V/Oct input, dedicated linear FM input, hard sync, and independent Sine, Triangle, Saw, PWM and a vactrol-controlled Wave Morph outputs. Operational enhancements via it's discrete SMT component design assures even greater accuracy across all functions with stability now better than .005% (less than 2 hertz drift at 1kHz over 24 hours) and single-pot frequency range from 1 to 20Khzm, at a depth of just over .5 inches below the faceplate.

Model 15 Complex Voltage Controlled Oscillator
AVAILABLE NOW FOR PRESALE ONLY
packaged and shipped on or before Oct 15, 2011"

Formerly the Plan B Model 15 Complex VCO from Peter Grenader.

This one in via Dennis.

"Part of the the original groundbreaking ELF module series - the first to feature faceplate potentiometers on a 2cm wide format - the newly redesigned SMT Model 37 is now armed with dedicated outputs for triangle, sawtooth and square wave outputs. While maintaining it's super hard sync and adjustable FM response, the 1V/oct tracking has been increased to over five octaves, making the M37 the unparalleled cost alternative for multi-voiced modular synthesizers.

Model 37 Voltage Controlled LFO / Utility Oscillator
AVAILABLE NOW FOR PRESALE ONLY
packaged and shipped on or before Oct 15, 2011

The Subconscious Model 37 ELF LFO has an identity problem.

While specifically labeled as an LFO, it's massive frequency range 1 cycle per 30 seconds to over 20Hkz and new six-octave 1V/oct tracking range makes it the perfect candidate for utility audio VCO applications. Incorporating a heavily-modified version of the TAU triangle core architecture, the M37 is capable of 1v/oct tracking when the external VC Attenuator is set to the full clockwise position. The 3080 used in it's original core has been replaced with the 13700, a dual device which has allowed for improved response of the reset comparator, and with that enhanced tracking.

A one-shot driven hard Sync input will stop and restart the VCO dead in it's tracks with any input received. So unlike other VCOs, it doesn't require a square wave input to operate.

Further improvement are the M37's switch-selectable Saw/Tri waveform output switch which has been replaced in this new SMT generation with dedicated outputs for Triangle, Sawtooth and Square Wave outputs which are available simultaneously from dedicated output jacks. Further, the Sawtooth output has been phase-reversed so it is now a downward saw, which is widely accepted as being more useful in the low frequency spectra. When used in conjunction with the Sync input it will act as a user-triggerable decay-only envelope."

"This was one of my first designs, this is more then 2 years old and can still blow away alot of synths out there as far as fatness. It has 3 VCO's, 2 LFO's, 2 envelopes. I did not know how to do portamento yet in those days. This can do unique Noise to VCO FM modulation. Here it in this demo near the end."

nexus tweaking

"This is to show you what you can do as a noise box, no keyboard is used. This is all knob tweaking."

via this auction

"designed about 2 years ago. I no longer use this poor fellow and would like to sell it to someone just starting to gather gear or whatever.
I only made 4 of these. 2 are in the USA the others are in Europe. This does Fat really well.
The tracking on the vco's is good enough for bass and leads. If you expect MOTM level tracking then this is not for you. It starts to get noticeable in the higher frequencies, detuning starts to happen.
There are 3 VCO's and one of them can mix ramp and square at the same time on the mixer.

It is 12v bipolar internal power supply based. I have a 9v AC wall adapter that is included. You have to use 9V ac, anything higher will make the inside get hot. The power supply is based off an old doepfer design.

Specs:
3 VCO's, 2 have ramp only, 1 has ramp and square.
2 LFO's-triangle, ramp, saw, square wave.
2 attack/release generators with repeat.
(1) vca
(1) sour LM13700 based Filter.
(1) onboard midi to cv converter.

This is very comparable to the MFOS Soundlab first generation."

Vince Clarke Enters the Eurorack Market with New Line of MIDI to CV Utility Modules

Vince Clarke Circuits - The VCM & VCS Auto Tune System from erasureinfo on Vimeo.

In collaboration with Analogue Solutions.

"This self contained Eurorack expandable Midi to CV converter/calibration system offers an uncomplicated solution to the problems of tuning and scaling both vintage synthesisers and modern VCO Eurorack modules. With 16 bit voltage resolution and a tune time of 10 seconds. The unit can compensate for VCO alignment issues and environmental factors that cause tuning drift with the push of a button. Its Digital Automatic Audio Gain Control Circuitry (DAGCC) enables the unit to be connected to most synthesiser outputs, and has been tested on a large array of makes and models. While obviously not being capable of fixing the problems of faulty circuitry it will however save time and money on re–calibration, and ensure the technical side of synth ownership doesn't impinge on the creative process.

MORE DETAILS:
http://www.vinceclarkemusic.com/circuits/"

And the press release:

"Vince Clarke keeps tuneful tracks tuned with namesake clever CV/Gate tuning system

BROOKLYN, NY, USA: synth-pop Svengali Vince Clarke is proud to announce that he will be releasing a series of creative and utilitarian modules for the ever-present Eurorack small-format modular system under the namesake Clarke company name, designed and built to exacting standards in close collaboration with British ‘boutique’ analogue synthesiser and accessory designer/manufacturer Analogue Solutions, starting with the now-available Auto Tune — a self-contained, expandable Eurorack-compatible MIDI-to-CV converter/calibration system offering an uncomplicated solution to the problems of tuning and scaling both vintage analogue synthesisers and modern Eurorack VCO (Voltage Controlled Oscillator) modules — as of March 18...

So why simultaneously sidestep into this creative and utilitarian synthesiser module manufacturing (ad)venture alongside superlative synth-pop music compositional creativity? Who better qualified to address this than the Ivor Novello Award-winning songwriter himself... hardly surprising, really, since Vince Clarke can, of course, comfortably find his way around a notable number of synthesisers, too, as attested to by the well-earned songwriting success-funded collection of analogue classics currently residing at his NYC studio, relatively recently relocated from a custom-built cabin in rural Maine to inner-city Brooklyn. But this is no millionaire’s museum piece, but rather a unique personal workspace, where each and every awe-inspiring analogue instrument included in his sizeable collection of vintage and modern synthesisers comfortably housed within regularly earns its keep on a variety of musical projects, be they synth-pop based or otherwise. “For those of you who work with synthesisers using CV and Gate, you will all be aware of the problems of calibration,” notes Vince Clarke, continuing: “Having tried many a cumbersome software-based package over the years, I wondered if there might be a neater solution — a kind of all-in-one MIDI-to-CV convertor with auto-calibration.”

And, as if by musical magic, the collaborative Clarke company concept was born. And with it the first of those creative and utilitarian modules for the ever-present Eurorack small-format modular system that is increasingly popularised (and heavily populated) by an ever-growing band of merry ‘boutique’ manufacturers now numbering hundreds worldwide... welcome into the world Clarke’s clever Auto Tune system! So, let’s learn a little more about what it is, what it does, and how, exactly, it does it...

In a nutshell, then, the Auto Tune system consists of a VCM20 master module, which can control up to 16 VCS20 slave modules, each of which provides one channel of CV (Control Voltage) and Gate. With 16-bit voltage resolution and a tune time of 10 seconds, this straightforward system can compensate for VCO alignment issues and environmental factors that cause tuning drift quite literally at the push of a button!

The VCM20 master module has an LED (Light Emitting Diode), an increment push button to select the MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) channel, and MIDI IN and MIDI THRU sockets; the VCS20 slave module has four 3.5mm jack sockets for communicating with the outside analogue synthesiser world, which is where the tuning action really gets going: CV1 connects to the synthesiser’s pitch control voltage and can be set to either V/oct (Volts per octave) or Hz/V (Hertz per Volt); CV2 is mapped to keyboard velocity — typically to control a VCF (Voltage Controlled Filter) or VCA (Voltage Controlled Amplifier); the 11 Volt GATE output can be set to either V-Trig (Voltage Triggers) or S-Trig (Switch Triggers), its use being indicated by the Gate LED; the VCO input connects to the synthesiser’s waveform or audio input and allows the VCS20 slave module to read audio frequencies during the calibration process — a square, sine, or sawtooth waveform without modulation is recommended for doing this. The oscillator output can either be split or an unused waveform connected in the case of modular system setups while with typical hardwired analogue synthesisers it’s a case of splitting the audio output or, in most cases, using the headphone output. Either way, the synthesiser needs to be set to output a single oscillator without filter or modulation with the VCA envelope set to zero attack, zero decay, full sustain, and zero release. For the most accurate calibration of the control voltage the synthesiser’s oscillator range should be set to 8’ or its initial oscillator frequency set midway.

Having correctly connected everything, pressing the VCS20 slave module’s Tune button automatically tunes the analogue synthesiser, compensating for calibration errors between 0.5 and 1.5 V/oct. (During the tuning process, the Gate opens and its associated LED lights up, going out once complete.) Calibration data is duly stored — solving the problem with a neat solution! Still better, the VCS20 slave module retains the calibration data on power down — no need, necessarily, to repeat the process.

Suffice to say, Vince Clarke’s canny vision of an all-in-one MIDI-to-CV convertor with auto-calibration has truly become reality with the Clarke Auto Tune system since it is possible to set the individual MIDI channel for each VCS20 slave module and see which MIDI channel a slave module is set to at any time by simply pressing its Show button. Beauty is in simple things, after all. Equally easy, the VCS20 slave module’s Oct. (octave) button transposes the incoming MIDI signal by one octave with each push, cycling around four octaves — useful if the synthesiser’s range circuit is detuned. Don’t forget, each VCS20 slave module connected can be individually set to work with V/oct or Hz/V synthesisers so a variety of older and newer analogue instruments can be calibrated and automatically tuned by the Clarke Auto Tune system. Start with a VCM20 master module and one VCS20 slave module, maybe? Then simply add more VCS20 slave modules as your analogue instrument collection grows... guaranteed to stay in tune, each and every one of them — just like Vince Clarke’s Brooklyn-based sizeable collection of vintage and modern synthesisers! Synth-pop songwriting success, sadly, cannot be guaranteed.

The Clarke Auto Tune system is priced at £189.00 GBP (plus tax and delivery) for the VCM20 master module and £189.00 GBP (plus tax and delivery) for the VCS20 slave module; all are available to order online from Analogue Solutions here: http://analoguesolutions.com/clarke/

"30 years later and here we are... glorious sound makes that possible. All honor and praise to the geniuses at R. A. Moog Co, especially Bill Hemsath, and Mr. Moog himself, a person with whom I (MSR) shared a lunch space at NAMM in the 1990s—it's something folks.

Some internal patching on "Registered Pulses", "Voo R U", and "1st Midimini V30", not that I can remember what went where. No FX however, (with the exception of a wet channel on Rach of Ages 2), no compression, limiting, only a touch of some spot normalizing on several tracks. Essentially raw and un-pestered, synth and factory direct honesty—still such a lonely word.

Oh yes, and I created a few stereo tracks from multiple takes; who could resist? I'm sure you can spot them.

Enjoy and Merry Christmas,
Marc St Regis 12/24/19"

MIDIMINI V30 - $2999

"Many can recall dialing up Midim-g/Midimini patches that fit a song so perfectly that they inspired even greater creativity; shapely, sometimes sinuous sounds whose essense called out to you; emotive sounds you never wanted to change; sounds you lovingly tracked, notated and revered; sounds as vital as the lyrics or lead vocal—that solid, insistent, articulate bounce, bravado, and twangy bang. Was there another sensible, MIDI-driven rackmount choice for immaculate synth-bass and lead lines?

November 2019 brings the SE Midimini V30 to the table, and nothing has been lost in the translation of this end-of-decade Analog essential. A raft of brand-new hardware features, extensive software sweetening, and modular connections open the window even wider to an already stunning Analog view.

NAMM: PRESENTING THE METASONIX KV-100

"LET IT BLAST YOUR RECTUM CLEAN.

The Metasonix KV-100 is not called the "Assblaster" for nothing. We've
taken all of our knowledge of extreme vacuum-tube audio processing and
combined it into a single convenient, easy-to-use package.

Complete with disgusting and juvenile cartoon art by Dave Lovelace, of
Retarded Animal Babies fame.

The KV-100 contains the following:

--the basic preamp stage of our TM-7 Scrotum Smasher, driving:
--the waveshaping (pulser) and ring modulation functions of our TM-1,
minus the ring-modulator carrier oscillator, which then drives;
--a VCO derived from our TM-3 (it is NOT intended for use as a
synthesizer pitch source, only as a special effect for signal
degradation), leading to;
--an all-new wide-sweeping bandpass filter,
with envelope filter function;
--plus it has an envelope follower, which also makes a gate signal;
--and a noise gate on the output, which is always active and
is driven by said gate signal.

Plus relay-based true bypass for the main circuit, plus relay controlled
activation of the VCO and pulser. Controllable with manual switches or
optional external footswitches.

Only 8 knobs allow for vast ranges of distortion and effects, from
subtle to flaming-enema. It's for those filthy, nutsack-sucking
guitarists. Because they deserve, and love, flaming enemas.
Feel free to gnaw the crust off my taint, Tiny Worm Guitar Dude.

Specifications:
Audio input accepts unbalanced guitar, microphone or line signals.
Output 600 ohms unbalanced. 1/4" jacks for all I/O.
Extra inputs: carrier audio input for ring modulator, CV inputs for VCO
pitch and filter sweep.
Extra outputs: envelope CV out, VCO waveform out, pulser waveform out.
Frequency response: yes. Distortion: yee-haw. Filter sweep range: <100hz>12 kHz.
Enclosed in rugged, moisture-resistant ABS utility box with hinged lid,
carrying handle and latch.
Size with lid closed 12.25"x7.4"x6.5" (314mmx186mmx168mm), weight (minus
AC adapter) approx 2 lbs (1.4 kg).
Power: 12 volts AC, 50/60 Hz, 1.5 amps. Uses Jameco 167151 AC adapter
for power in 120v countries. Power inlet: 2.1mm coaxial jack.

Korg Mono/Poly MP-4 Vintage Analog Synthesizer w/ Signed Gig Bag

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"1980's Korg Mono/Poly MP-4 synthesizer in excellent condition and in perfect working order. The Mono/Poly is a 44 key "mono-polyphonic" analog synthesizer manufactured by Korg from 1981 to 1984. This model is the sister synthesizer to the Korg Polysix, with four highly stable voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs), a 4-pole, self-oscillating low pass filter (LPF), several modulation capabilities and pseudo-polyphony (paraphony) functionality.

The four VCO's can be shared in four-voice Polyphonic mode, or linked in Unison for a versatile monophonic lead. Each VCO has its own level, tune, and waveform type control. Waveforms include triangle, sawtooth, and variable pulse wave. It has a great VCF (filter) section as well as two envelope generators (one for the oscillators and one for the filter), and there are also two individual LFO's which can be used to modulate the Pulse Width, Envelope and Arpeggiator independently.

A very flexible and fun synthesizer, other cool tricks up its sleeve include chord memory and an effects mode in which oscillators have a variety of ways to be synced. The built-in arpeggiator and sequencer can run all 4 VCO's at a time or cycle through each voice per note! There's also portamento, CV/Gate, VCF and VCO mod inputs, a white noise generator, and the pitch/mod wheels can be assigned to control LFO, pitch, or the filter.

This synth was imported direct from Tokyo, and as such runs at 100v. All functions are stable and functioning as intended on USA power, 120v "on paper," but typically ranging between 110-120v.

Cosmetically, this synthesizer is very clean, with only light scuffs on the wood framing the keyboard. All original knobs are intact as are the four rubber feet on the bottom of the enclosure. The original soft Korg-branded green carry case is included, along with some text on the exterior referencing the band Earthshaker."
